Premature failure of right bank of intake camshaft and rocker arms/tappet valves requiring a $2000 repair on a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU with 64,596 miles.
I started out with a slow coolant leak coming from the middle front of the Jeep, that I was not aware of, until it got worse. Now it’s a steady stream only when the engine is on.
3 different spot leaking coolant leading to loss of collant for engine and the engine did over heat
TSB 07–0 01–22REVB on August 2022 upgraded to ZD8 December 2022 official open recall on January 2023. Please explain why not and what we can do about getting this covered.
The contact owned a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at approximately 65 MPH, she noticed a burning odor in the vehicle's cabin, and the sway bar warning light illuminated. The husband looked out of the driver's window and observed fire coming from under the vehicle. While attempting to steer to the side of the road, the front of the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The couple managed to exit the vehicle safely. The contact's husband tried to extinguish the fire, but it continued to engulf more. The fire department arrived and extinguished the blaze. A police report was filed, and the vehicle was towed to a lot. The manufacturer was notified of the incident. The failure occurred at 51,000 miles.
The engine in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sahara suddenly failed and was diagnosed by the dealership as a complete internal failure involving the lifters and camshaft. The dealership explained that this type of failure can spread metal fragments throughout the oil system, requiring a full engine replacement. This creates a serious safety hazard, as the engine can shut down unexpectedly while driving, putting both the driver and others at risk. The issue has been confirmed by the dealership’s technician and shop foreman, and the vehicle has been at the dealer for over a month awaiting a replacement engine, which is currently on national backorder. There were no prior warning lights or error messages before the failure. The failure occurred without warning, and the vehicle is not drivable. This problem appears to be affecting multiple Jeep Wrangler owners and may represent a systemic defect that should that should be investigated!
Had to take my 2020 wrangler in to have accessory battery replaced as it had drained my newly purchased battery and my car wouldn’t start. Repair shop replaced both batteries and about a week later the check engine light came on for about 2 minutes then went off so I chalked it up to the battery replacement. It didn’t come back on again until about 3 weeks later when I started feeling a slip when going in to second gear. When I got home after having that issue I noticed a small collection of what looked to me like transmission fluid on my garage floor so I had the car towed to the repair shop again. They informed me that engine oil was mixing with coolant due to a bad oil cooler. Between that diagnosis and my car completely breaking down and cracking my engine block the car was driven a total of 14 miles at the most. There was never any other signs prior to me taking it to the shop that the oil cooler had gone bad and even when they replaced the batteries no codes came up for the bad oil cooler and nobody noticed anything while working in the area. . Since then I have learned that this has been an ongoing issue with the wrangler since at least 2012 models and there has been several class action suits that were settled out of court I’m assuming so they don’t have to spend the money recalling and repairing every affected vehicle and finding a fix for future models. Meanwhile I have only had my car for 2 years as of last week and now am being charged $15000 $8000 of which I have to pay up front to even find out how long the parts needed will be on back order. Could be a week could be a year. Not to mention that I have no car to drive and a car payment to make while I wait. This needs to be fixed as these cars are overheating out of nowhere and shutting down when it does. It’s a safety issue as well as a consumer issue.
The cams are bad. I am now waiting almost 2 months for repairs. I keep calling and am being told that this is a common problem and they have 15 other Jeeps with the same issue and can't get the parts. This is my third time having my Jeep at the dealership for the same problem.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while stopped in traffic, she observed a revving sound coming from the engine compartment. The message that the engine was overheating was displayed, and the temperature gauge remained on H(Hot). The contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the message disappeared. The vehicle was taken to the residence, where the contact observed that there was no coolant in the coolant reservoir. The contact added coolant to the coolant reservoir but became aware that the coolant reservoir was empty after one week. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that coolant was added to the reservoir. The contact believed that the failure was associated with Manufacturer Recall Number: 07-001-22REV-A. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The engine started to misfire due to bad components. The check engine light did not come on to indicate there was an issue until it was too late and the damage was done not only to the engine but other components as well. This was extremely dangerous as the issues resulted in loss of power while driving with my young children in the car as i had just picked them up from school. The vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic who believes that at this point the engine may need to be replaced entirely. My vehicle just passed 100,000 miles so is no longer covered by warranty and now I am stuck with over an $11,000 bill to replace my engine because it was built poorly to begin with, hence the class action lawsuit against Jeep for this particular motor.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the infotainment system screen was blank. The contact stated that the failure persisted. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that upon completing a routine inspection of the vehicle, he noticed that the thermostat housing was leaking. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to several unknown Technical Service Bulletins. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
The vehicle on multiple occasions has "lunged" forward while the driver had foot on the brake and the vehicle was near an idle mode. The most recent occurrence happened on/about October 21, 2024. The incident was report to Jeep Customer Service and they opened ticket number 91301121. Jeep advises to have the vehicle diagnosed but refuses to pay for the diagnoses of to verify the vehicle is safe to drive. I have advised them the vehicle is unsafe since this has occurred on multiple occasions. The latest incident involved the vehicle lunging forward 18-24" before the operator could gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle nearly missed the garage door framing and another parked vehicle in the garage. Had there been a person in front of the vehicle, they would have bee hit and the same could easily happen if a pedestrian was crossing the street in front of the vehicle.
I was driving my 2020 Jeep Wrangler on the highway when all of a sudden I felt the car shake. I pulled quickly to the side of the highway as I thought I maybe had a tire issue. When I got to the side, the car was making a strange noise, so I called AAA to be towed. I had NO warning lights or anything to advise me that I was about to have an issue. I was lucky to get to the side of the highway without having a safety issue. After the mechanic checked out the car they noticed the Oil Pump had failed which caused the engine to seize. The car only had 63,176 miles on it with all the regular Oil changes performed at the jeep dealership. I had no leaks of oil, or warning lights and jeep didn't indicate any issues at the last oil change. I feel this is a big safety issue. Had I not got over to the side of the road, my car would be dead in the middle of the highway with no warning.
on 17th July 2024 afternoon I was driving the jeep and the engine started smoking. I quickly pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and within a couple of minutes the engine was on fire. I have raised the issue with Jeep and awaiting their response
Premature failure of the Particulate Matter Sensor - Mopar (68297518AA)
Vehicle started to get extreme smell of gas fumes, interior and exterior, to the point it would make you nauseous. My vehicle was taken to a dealer where the tech noticed that a fuel pump was leaking and a fuel line behind the engine had a small hole in it and was leaking on the top and was unlikely debris hit it, to get at the line the whole motor has to get dropped. After reading the description of the fuel line/pump issues with the 2020 2.0 L, this seems that it would be related and part of the effected parts.
Got stuck in an isolated place due to Engine Overheat. Found a Water coolant leaked due to loose bolt/screw on water pump inlet. I just learned that it is common to 2018-2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU with 2.0 Engine
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the stuck throttle body warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the computer to be re-flashed. The dealer replaced the brake controller and battery; however, the failure recurred, with the vehicle stalling and failing to restart. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
2020 JEEP WRANGLER JL 3.6 CYLINDER IS LOOSING ENGINE COOLANT CAUSING ENGINE TO POTENTIALLY OVERHEAT. MANY FORUMS ARE REPORTING THIS AS A PROBLEM.

The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted, and the contact stated that the Stop/Start feature was not displaying as active. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the auxiliary battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 75-80 MPH, the temperature gauge indicated “HOT” indicating that the engine was overheating. The contact pulled over to the emergency lane and looked up possible causes for the failure in the Owner’s Manual. The Owners Manuel instructed the contact to turn off the vehicle and wind the windows down which she performed. The Owner’s manual also suggested waiting for 15 minutes before restarting the vehicle. The contact performed the functions as instructed and started the vehicle and proceeded to drive however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from the engine and the vehicle lost all of the electronic functions. The brake and steering were the only functions that the contact was able to control. The contact engaged the hazard light and pulled over. The contact lifted the hood, rolled the windows down, and waited for the vehicle to cool down. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed about a refund on towing. The approximate failure mileage was 30,791.
WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THEN IT STARTED MAKING A WEIRD SOUND. PULLED OVER TO PARK AND BRAND NEW CAR STARTED OVER HEATING. WITH ONLY 500 MILES, I HAD TO GET IT TOWED. I HAVE NOT HEARD AN UPDATE AND HAVE NO ETA. I HAVE NOT HAD IT FOR OVER A MONTH.
WITH LESS THAN 400 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, A TAPPING SOUND COULD BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE BAY. WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WAS A CAMSHAFT ISSUE FOR A TAPPET THAT HAD FAILED AND WAS DELIVERED FROM THE FACTORY WITH THE DEFECT. THIS HAS RESULTED IN A REPLACEMENT OF THE ROCKERS, TAPPETS, AND INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFTS.
FOR THE THIRD TIME IN SIX MONTHS, OUR 2020 WRANGLE UNLIMITED HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER TO ATTEMPT TO FIX A SIGNIFICANT CHIRPING SOUND COMING FROM THE SERPENTINE AREA. THEY HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE TENSIONER PULLEY TWICE AND IT'S ACTUALLY WORSE. SO FAR, FOR THE SIX MONTHS WE'VE HAD IT, WE'LL BE GOING ON 3 WEEKS IN THE SHOP. INITIALLY IT WOULD ONLY BE ON A COLD START BUT NOW IT'S LOUDER AND WE CAN'T TAKE IT ANYWHERE. THE DEALER HAS HAD ALL THE TECH LOOK INTO IT AND THEY STILL BELIEVE IT'S RELATED TO THE TENSIONER. IT'S NOT RELATED TO THE RECENT TENSIONER RECALL EITHER. THIS IS A LEMON AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
AS SLOWING DOWN TOWARDS A RED LIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED UP . PRESSED BRAKE TO FULL (AGAIN, NO FOOT ON GAS), ENGINE CONTINUED REVVING AT HIGH RPM. JEEP LURCHED FORWARD THREE TIMES AND REAR ENDED CAR IN FRONT WAITING AT THE LIGHT. 4 WHEEL DRIVE WAS NOT MANUALLY TURNED ON, BUT FELT LIKE THE FRONT WHEELS HAD LOCKED BUT THE BACK WHEELS KEPT LURCHING THE JEEP FORWARD. AGAIN THE ENGINE WAS RACING EVEN THOUGH GAS PEDAL WAS NOT PRESSED. PLEASE NOTE: THIS VEHICLE IS A RENTAL FROM AVIS.
