In my 2012 Jeep I had to replace the engine and catalytic converters. The engine number 3 cylinder failed due to excessive ware causing lower compression. After the engine (long block) was replaced, one of the cylinders was miss firing. This miss firing was traced to micro cracks in the plastic/composite intake manifold (original and not part of the engine replacement). Because these micro cracks changed the fuel air ratio on specific cylinders by leaning out the cylinders near the cracks this lean mixture would cause the affected cylinders to run hot that would lead to both the excessive ware on the one cylinder and would comprise the catalytic converters. Because this change in fuel air mixture was caused by the intake manifold and Jeep does not have any inspection requirements or methods for this item and even after the Jeep Dealer did a full diagnosis using their factory specified equipment the issue with the manifold was not found. My local AMMCO shop found the cracking in the manifold that was the route cause of the problem.

6 days after an oil change, the temp gauge while driving went from cool to hot in under a mile and the engine temp light came on. There was coolant all over the underside of the car it was near catastrophic. I had to have it towed to the dealership for repairs. The faulty part was the oil filter adapter it was cracked by over tightening of the oil filter.

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal burning odor around the vehicle. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH and other various speeds the burning odor was still present. The check engine warning light illuminated with the temperature gauge rising from normal to hot. An audible alarm was heard during the failure. The vehicle was driven to the residence and then towed to a dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the radiator needed to be replaced. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who determined that coolant was leaking into the cylinder head. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Due to the failure, the vehicle would independently go into limp mode with the traction control and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to several unknown dealers and the engine misfire was acknowledged however, the cause of the failure was not determined. THE OIL COOLER FAILING, LEAKING. I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THAT MY OIL COOLER IS LEAKING FROM A PUDDLE ON THE GROUND AND MY LOWER ENGINE FULL OF OIL. I GOT NO WARNING LIGHT. IF THERE HAD NOT BEEN A NOTICABLE PUDDLE I WOULD HAVE NEVER NOTICED IT. IF NOT MY MOTOR WOULD HAVE LOCKED UP AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I CHECKED MY OIL LEVEL AND NO OIL IS ON THE DIPSTICK. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY BIG PROBLEM IN THE JEEP COMMUNITY. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED. IF IT WAS A HERE AND THERE INCIDENT, IT WOULD B DIFFERENT. BUT IT'S A VERY BIG PROBLEM. IN THE PHOTO LOOK TO THE LEFT OF THE OIL FILTER HOUSING. IT'S A PUDDLE OF OIL. THE PRICE OF OIL IS NOT CHEAP. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP-LIGHT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS (BUT NOT ON EVERY OCCASION), THE 3.6 LITER PENTASTAR ENGINE IN MY 2012 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT HAS STALLED, WHICH CAUSES IMMEDIATE & COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER-STEERING & HYDRAULIC BRAKE-POWER. TO RESTART THE ENGINE, I MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK. TO PUT THE VEHICLE BACK INTO DRIVE AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER REQUIRES ME TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND DISRUPTIVE WHEN I'M IN TRAFFIC AND THERE IS NOT A REQUIREMENT TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP (FOR INSTANCE WHEN THE RED LIGHT TURNS GREEN WHILE I'M SLOWING). AN OPEN SERVICE BULLETIN EXISTS, BUT SEVERAL JK VEHICLES WITH THE SIMILAR ISSUE CAUSE PARTS BACKORDER. IF CONTINUE DRIVING WITH THIS ISSUE HAPPENS, MORE SERIOUS DAMAGE WILL RESULT TO THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME, WE HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. WE IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO CHAPMAN JEEP IN HENDERSON NV. FOR TROUBLESHOOTING, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS MODEL YEAR WAS AFFECTED BY THE FAULTY CYLINDER HEAD SERVICE BULLETIN AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH, WOULD BE FIXED BY CHRYSLER AT NO CHARGE. A FEW DAYS LATER, WE GOT A RETURN CALL FROM JEEP SAYING THE FAULT WAS NOT THE CYLINDER HEAD, BUT IT WAS THE ENGINE ITSELF! A PISTON HAD MELTED IN NUMBER 6 CYLINDER AND THE ENGINE WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT! AS YOU CAN IMAGINE I WAS VERY SURPRISED TO FIND A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE WITH ONLY 44000 MILES, WOULD NOW REQUIRE AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT COSTING ME $7000.00 DOLLARS! I REQUESTED NUMEROUS TIMES FOR JEEP TO TELL ME HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN, BUT THE REPLY WAS THEY DID NOT KNOW. THE ENGINE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED WITH THE BEST OIL AND COOLANT, AND NO OTHER CYLINDERS WERE AFFECTED. I HAVE HELD OFF WRITING THIS LETTER SINCE I WANTED TO GET OUR JEEP RETURNED TO ME BEFORE MORE MONEY WAS REMOVED FROM MY WALLET. I DO REALIZE THINGS CAN GO WRONG, BUT SOMETHING FAILED INTERNALLY TO THE ENGINE, THIS WAS OUT OF MY CONTROL, AND ALL CHRYSLER/JEEP COULD DO WAS SHRUG THEIR SHOULDERS AND SAY PAY ME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THERE WAS A LEAK FROM THE EXHAUST HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE EXHAUST HEAD ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WAS WHOPPED AND CAUSED A CRACK IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE CONTACT CALLED WORLD JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM AT 732-918-1380 (LOCATED AT 681 SHREWSBURY AVE, SHREWSBURY, NJ 07702) AND WAS INFORMED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,200.

OIL PUMP REPLACED AFTER 50K MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SO AN OIL CHANGE WAS DONE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WITH CODE P06DE, OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REPLACED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REAPPEARED AFTER 2 WEEKS. CODE WAS ONCE AGAIN P06DE. OIL PUMP WAS REPLACED DUE TO SOLENOID ISSUES. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE RESOLVED THE ISSUE, BUT IT'S BEEN A COUPLE DAYS. EITHER WAY, AFTER READING SEVERAL JEEP FORUMS, IT SEEMS THIS IS PRETTY COMMON ON 2012 WRANGLERS AFTER 50K MILES. I HOPE JEEP DECIDES TO RECALL THIS PART SINCE I'VE SPENT OVER $1200, JUST ON THIS ISSUE.

THE OIL FILTER HOUSING HAS A MANUFACTURE FLAW, WHICH CAUSES ENGINE OIL TO LEAK IN THE ENGINE BAY AND ONTO THE EXHAUST. THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE IN THEIR JEEP WRANGLERS. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE AGE OR MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MALFUNCTION HAS ACCRUED IN JEEP WRANGLERS WITH AS LITTLE AS 2K MILES ON THEM. THE MALFUNCTION IS NOT ONLY A HEALTH BUT SAFETY RISK TO DRIVERS AND THEIR PASSENGERS. WHEN DRIVING THE CABIN FILLS UP WITH SMOKE FROM BURNING OIL AND HAS A HIGH POTENTIAL TO IGNITE AND CAUSE A FIRE. WHEN JEEP REPAIRS THIS ISSUE THEY USE A NEW PART NUMBER, AND NOT THE STOCK APPLICATION. I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT I'M FINDING THIS IS THE CASE WITH A NUMBER OF CHRYSLER FIATS BRANDS WITH THE PENASTAR 3.6L MOTOR. I MY HAVE THIS ISSUE NOW, AND HAVE HAD IT ON BOTH OF MY 2012 AND 2013 JEEP WRANGLERS. AGAIN, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF REPAROTA ONLINE WITH JEEP OWNERS WITH THE 3.6L PENASTAR MOTOR. 2012-2014. THE ISSUE WAS FIXED BY JEEP ENGINEERS IN MID 2015.

THE SHIELD HAS CLEARLY DETERIORATED DUE TO NORMAL DRIVING VIBRATION AS THERE ARE NO MOVING PARTS AND THE SHIELD IS NOT REINFORCED WHERE THE NUTS CONTACT IT. I'VE HAD TO ADD LARGE FENDER WASHERS TO COVER THE WORN THRU PORTION OF THE SHIELD BUT THIS WILL NOT BE A LONG TERM SOLUTION AS THE PLATE WILL SIMPLY WEAR OUT WHERE THE NEW WASHERS CONTACT IT.

SO I CALLED CHRYSLER CORP AND RECEIVED A CLAIM NUMBER. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, I WAS TOLD THAT ALL THE PENTASTAR ENGINES MADE A LOUD TICKING NOISE FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THIS WAS A NORMAL VARIANT. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS IN THE DESIGN OF THE LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THEY ALL MADE THIS NOISE. AFTER MUCH TALKING BETWEEN CHRYSLER CORP AND THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD TO COME AND PICK UP MY JEEP, NOTHING WOULD BE DONE. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS A DODGE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PENTASTAR ENGINES ARE HAVING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE LEFT HEAD AND CAM PHASER ARE GOING OUT... I AM CONCERNED THAT THE ENGINE WILL CATCH FIRE OR STALL OUT ON THE FREEWAY. *TR

I HAD BOUGHT MY 2012 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 2200 MILES ON IT. I TOOK MY 2012 JEEP WRANGLER TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT 3000 MILES WHEN I NOTICED AFTER THE OIL CHANGE I HEARD A TICKING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I DROVE IT AROUND THINKING IT MIGHT GO AWAY UNTIL AFTER 1000 MILES IT DID NOT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP JUNE 15TH AT 9:00 IN THE MORNING AND SPOKE WITH A MECHANIC, MANAGER, AND MY SALESPERSON SAID, SINCE IT HAD ONLY BEEN A FEW WEEKS SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY HAD 4 JEEPS IN THERE THEY HAD TO DO REPAIRS ON WITH THE NO.2 CYLINDER. HE TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY UNTIL IT THREW A CODE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE AT YOUTUBE AND FORUMS, AND MY CASE IS NOT THE ONLY CASE. THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE OUT THERE WITH THESE NEW 2012 JEEPS WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH THIS PENTASTAR ENGINE THAT CHRYSLER HAS RELEASED FOR 2012. *JB

TOOK VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER AND THEY SAY THAT MY ENGINE IS JUST "LOUD" COMPARED TO ALL OTHER 2012'S AND THAT IT'S NORMAL. THEY TOLD ME TO JUST DRIVE IT UNTIL IT FAILS AND THEN BRING IT BACK IN BECAUSE CHRYSLER CORPORATE WILL NOT ALLOW A DEALERSHIP TO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND FIX IT UNTIL A FAILURE OCCURS. SO, NOW I AM STUCK WITH A 3 MONTH OLD 2012 WRANGLER WAITING FOR IT TO BREAKDOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP WILL FIX THE KNOWN ISSUE. MECHANIC SAYS "THAT DOESN'T SOUND RIGHT" WHEN I TOOK IT IN. MIND YOU I TOOK THE WRANGLER INTO TWO DEALERSHIPS AT THIS POINT FOR MULTIPLE OPINIONS. BOTH AGREE THE JEEP WILL FAIL AND TO JUST "WAIT" UNTIL IT DOES BECAUSE THEY ARE TOLD BY CHRYSLER TO NOT WORK ON FAULTY WRANGLERS WITH THE NEW PENTASTAR ENGINE UNTIL THE ENGINE COMPLETELY FAILS. REAL PROACTIVE ON THAT DECISION CHRYSLER. I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DAY POWER IS LOST WHEN I'M ON THE HIGHWAY OR CROSSING TRAIN TRACKS. THANKS A LOT FOR PUTTING MY LIFE AT RISK OVER A KNOWN ISSUE YET NOT ACTING ON THE KNOWN FIX. BOTH DEALERSHIPS CLAIM THEY KNOW HEADS ARE BEING REPLACED WHEN THIS SYMPTOM IS FOUND ON 2012 WRANGLERS. PURCHASED A 2012 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT ON 3/3/12 AT ROUGHLY 2PM CST. AT ABOUT 4PM CST, I PARKED THE JEEP IN MY APARTMENT'S PARKING GARAGE. I DECIDED AT ABOUT 6PM CST TO GO GET SOME DINNER, AND TO CRUISE AROUND AS WELL IN THE NEW VEHICLE. I OBSERVED SMOKE COMING FROM THE PARKING GARAGE, AND WHEN I GOT INTO THE GARAGE, I OBSERVED MY NEW JEEP ON FIRE. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. BOTH FRONT TIRES EXPLODED AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE, AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED. THE INTERIOR IS DESTROYED; BASICALLY TOTALED OUT.
