DEAD WOBBLE ON JEEP AT 50 MPH SUV STARTS SHACKING LIKE IT'S GOING TO ROLL OVER
I HAVE A STOCK JEEP. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS TO FIX THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE AND THE MOPAR TRACK BAR IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO STOP IT! I HAVE REPLACED IT 3 TIMES THIS YEAR!! THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS! I LOVE MY JEEP BUT MAY HAVE TO GIVE IT UP!
EXPERIENCEING THE WELL KNOWN DEATH WOBBLE IN FRONT SUSPENSION AT SPEEDS AROUND 50 MPH. HAVE TRIED MULTIPLE FIXES YET CONDITION STILL REMAINS. ALSO WILL GO INTO DEATH WOBBLE AT OTHER SPEEDS IF HIT A POTHOLE OR BRIDGE TO ROAD GAP, HUMP OR BUMP IN ROAD. THIS JEEP HAS NO CUSTOM MODIFICATIONS. 2009 JEEP WRANGLER WITH ONLY 26000 MILES, NEW TIRES, HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS DEATH WOBBLE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING IT NEW FROM THE DEALER. I ALSO OWN RAM TRUCKS AND FIXED THE DEATH WOBBLE ON MY 2005 RAM WITH NEW TRACK BAR BUSHINGS. BUSHINGS IN MY 2009 JEEP SHOW NO PLAY AT ALL.
WHEN IT HITS A BUMP AROUND 40 PER HOUR, IT WOBBLES UNCONTROLLABLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL ON A BRIDGE, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE STARTED TO WOBBLE RAPIDLY AND EXPERIENCED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED TWO WEEKS LATER AS THE FRONT END STARTED TO WOBBLE AGAIN GOING DOWN A HILL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TWO LUG NUTS DETACHED FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DUE TO THE VIBRATIONS FROM THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE ON THE INTERNET AND CALLED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A SHOCK IN THE FRONT END RODS OR STEERING DAMPENER CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,600.*DT *JS
WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I HAD NOTICED IT MADE A NOICE , I HAD A MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND MENTIONED THE SUB FRAME WAS WELDED AND THAT THE CAR WAS VERY RUSTED AND FALLING APART. I WENT BACK WITH IN THE 15 DAYS AND UNDER 500 MILES AND BROUGHT IT TO JASON'S ATTENTION (THE PERSON HO SOLD ME THE VEHICLE, JASON ARGUED THAT ALL JEEPS SUB FRAMES ARE LIKE THAT FROM FACTORY, EVEN TRIED COMPARING IT TO ANOTHER JEEP HE HAD. I HAD TOOK THE JEEP TO A FEW SHOPS FOR EVALUATION AND ALL OF THEM CAME BACK WITH THE SAME BAD RESULTS THAT THE CAR WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE WAS ADVERTISED AT DEALER "THAT CAR PLACE" AS A GOOD RELIABLE AND SAFE CAR. MY BIG COCERN IS THAT I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT CARS AND I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE IN A CAR THAT HAS SAFETY HAZARDS FOR OTHERS AND MY OWN SAFETY.I HAD REQUESTED A DIFFERENT VEHICLE AND THE REPLY I GT FROM JASON WAS THAT HE COULDN'T DO THAT BECAUSE HE HAD BROUGHT DOWN THE PRICE AN HAD GIVEN ME A DISCOUNT. I DON'T THINK ITS FAIR FOR HIM TO USE THAT EXCUSE AND DENY MY REQUEST JUST BECAUSE I DIDN'T ASK HIM TO IT WAS BY HIS CHOICE.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND UPON HITTING ROUGH ROAD CONDITIONS THE FRONT ON THE JEEP BEGINS TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. YOU MUST SLOW OR COME TO A STOP TO MAKE IT GO AWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES TO ME. IT IS BY FAR THE MOST TERRIFYING THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME IN 50 YEARS OF DRIVING. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME IT WAS WORN DAMPENERS AND REPLACED THEM. OF COURSE THIS DID NOT HAPPEN FOR THE FIRST 50K MILES, SO I MUST WAIT UNTIL THE CONDITIONS APPEAR AGAIN TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED.
DEATH WOBBLE IN SUSPENSION WHILE DRIVING. HAS HAPPENED SINCE OWNING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO UNCONTROLLABLY SHAKE IN A VIOLENT MANNER AT A SPEEDS AT OR NEAR 60 MPH. THE WOBBLE IS PERSISTENT AND WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. JEEP REFUSES TO OFFICIALLY ACCEPT A PROBLEM EXISTS EVEN THOUGH WRANGLER OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED IN THOUSANDS OF POSTS VIEWABLE ONLINE. I HAVE HAD MY JEEP IN MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THIS AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STRUCK A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND WOBBLED VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STABILIZER BAR, PITTMAN BAR, AND STABILIZING SHOCK ABSORBERS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. A DEALER (ADVANTAGE DODGE RAM CHRYSLER JEEP 3200 E. MAIN STREET, FARMINGTON, NM 87402) WAS CONTACTED, BUT DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE CONTACT DID NOT FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 45 AND 55 MPH THE JEEP WILL BEGIN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE SO BAD IT IS HARD TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL, AND THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO SLOW DOWN OR COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VIOLENT SHAKING IS INTERMITTENT, I AM ABLE TO DRIVE THE SAME ROUTE WITH NO PROBLEM, AND OTHER TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO A VIOLENT SHAKE.
EXPERIENCED "DEATH WOBBLE" TWICE IN PAST MONTH - UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKING OF FRONT END AT SPEED AFTER HITTING MINOR BUMP IN HIGHWAY. ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENT. HAD TO SLOW TO NEAR STOP ON HIGHWAY FOR SHAKING TO SUBSIDE.
USUALLY AFTER HITTING A BUMP, THE TIRE(S) BEGIN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND DO NOT STOP UNTIL SLOWING DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY OR COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. FROM WHAT I'VE RESEARCHED, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP OWNERS AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. THIS STARTED A FEW MONTHS AGO ON MY JEEP AND APPEARS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE TREMENDOUSLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT TIE ROD END BOLTS, TRAC BAR BOLTS, AND THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE." THIS HAS OCCURRED FOUR TIMES TO ME ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 50-70 MILES PER HOUR. HAD TO COME TO COMPLETE STOP BEFORE THE SEVERE SHAKING FROM THE FRONT END AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD CEASE. VERY DANGEROUS AND IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE MANUFACTURER MUST ADDRESS AND STOP DENYING HAPPENS. THEY SHOULD ALSO REPAIR THE CAR FREE OF CHARGE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON SEPT. 12, 2015, OCT. 4TH, 2015, OCT. 13TH, 2015, AND OCTOBER 25, 2015. ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST INCIDENCE WHICH WAS ON A REGULAR ROAD GOING ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR.

THE FRONT AXEL IS WEEK AND BENT DURING OFF ROAD USE. JEEPS ARE DESIGNED AND SOLD FOR OFF ROAD USE. WHEN I DROVE DOWN A ROAD WITH SOME RUTS AND DIPS THE FRONT AXEL BENT CAUSING THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT TO BE PERMANENTLY OFF. *TR
DEATH WOBBLE, THE FRONT WHEELS WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY AT AROUND 55 MPH OR LOWER SPEEDS WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR ANYTHING ON THE ROAD THAT MAKES THE TIRES WOBBLE. THIS HAPPENS AT LEAST 4 TIMES A WEEK. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE SPEED WAS REDUCED TO 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SOME FRONT END PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE SPECIFIC PARTS THAT NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE MECHANIC BUT THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH WHEN I HEARD A SOUND FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO DISCOVER MY TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT AND THE VALVE STEM HAD COME LOOSE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, THE FIRST WAS BACK IN NOVEMBER. THE TIME SPAN FOR THE LATEST INCIDENT WAS APPROX. 10-15 SECONDS. A RAPID DEFLATION. I HAD JUST PUT NEW TIRES ON THE JEEP IN NOV. NOW ONE OF THEM IS DESTROYED. I TALKED TO TWO JEEP DEALERS SINCE THE EVENT ON 3/8/13. BOTH OF THEM SAID THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE PARTS FAILING IN NORTHERN STATES DUE TO CORROSION AND THAT IF " I LIVED IN CALIFORNIA, THIS WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE." I WAS OFFERED NEW RUBBER TMPS STEMS FOR $433.00. NOT SATISFACTORY. I FEEL I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS WAS NOT A FRONT TIRE! *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY IMMEDIATE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND A LIFT KIT WAS INSTALLED ON THE SUSPENSION. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY 14,000 MILES LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT VARIOUS DEALERS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED REPEATEDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
I HAVE HAD THIS JEEP IN TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES NOW FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS ONLY 2 AND A HALF YEARS OLD. THE FIRST TIME I BROUGHT IT IN WAS APPROX 4 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK BRAND NEW. THEY HAVE YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN YOU DRIVE APPROX. 55 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, AND POSSIBLY HIT A LITTLE BUMP, THE CAR WILL SHAKE UNCONTROLABLY. YOU CANNOT HIT THE BREAK OR IT GETS WORSE BUT SOMETIMES YOUR FORCED TO BECAUSE YOU WILL CRASH OTHERWISE. THE WHOLE FRONT END WOBBLES TO A POINT WHERE YOU LOOSE ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALSHIP STATED THE FIRST TIME AFTER IT HAPPENED THAT THEY FIXED IT... THE OTHER TWO TIMES THEY SAID THE SAME THING . THE FOURTH TIME THEY DECIDED TO SAY IT WAS MY TIRES. ( I DONT KNOW WHY THEY ALL OF A SUDDEN CHANGED THE PROBLEM). ROTATING THE TIRES FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS UNTIL I HAD TO BRING IT IN AGAIN AND THEY NOW STATE THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. BUT APPARANTLY THERE IS. VERY FED UP WITH THE WHOLE SITUATION. AND VERY NERVOUS DRIVING THE TRUCK. *TT
WHILE ENTERING HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH, WHILE MERGING I CROSSED OVER A ROADWAY LANE SEAM WHICH SEEMED TO ACTUATE A HARMONIC VIBRATION IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION WHICH INCREASED TO A DANGEROUS UNCONTROLLABLE AND VIOLENT SHAKING MAKING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. THIS SHAKING CONTINUED WHILE I SLOWED AND CROSSED 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER AND STOPPED ONLY AFTER I CAME TO A FULL STOP. INSPECTED FRONT SUSPENSION FOR DAMAGE AND SAW NONE. I CONTINUED ON MY TRIP WITH NO OTHER INCIDENT. THIS CONDITION IS INHERENT IN WRANGLERS AND OFTEN REFERRED TO IN JEEP MESSAGE BOARDS AS THE "WRANGLER DEATH WOBBLE". DEALER ROTATED AND REBALANCED TIRES AND INSTALLED NEW STEERING DAMPER IN HOPES THAT MIGHT SOLVE THE ISSUE. THE POTENTIAL FOR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IS VERY REAL. *KB

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH MY JEEP HAS STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND SHUDDER AFTER HITTING A BUMP. IT WILL ONLY STOP SHAKING AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SLOWING DOWN TO 15-20 MPH OR STOPPING ALL TOGETHER. THE DAY IT STARTED WE WERE TAKING A TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS AND IT HAPPENED 6 OR 7 TIMES IN LESS THAN 100 MILES. I WILL BE TAKING IT IN TO THE DEALER IN THE MORNING, BUT AFTER A QUICK SEARCH OF THE NHTSA DATABASE IT SEEM THIS HAS BEEN A REGULAR OCCURRENCE AND RECURRENCE WITH JEEPS FOR MANY YEARS. LUCKILY WE WERE ON A SECONDARY HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND NOT ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE AT 70-75 MPH (YET). THE WIFE IS NOW TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND I'M NOT TO COMFORTABLE WITH IT AT THIS POINT. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE WE'RE BEING STATIONED OVERSEAS AND PLANNED ON LETTING OUR SON IN COLLEGE USE THE VEHICLE WHICH DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A GREAT OPTION AT THIS POINT. WE'VE ALSO NOTICED, FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS, THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION WILL JUMP OUT OF 1ST GEAR WHEN TAKING OFF. I LOOKED FORWARD TO OWNING A JEEP 4-DOOR FOR SOME TIME AND THIS IS RATHER DISAPPOINTING AND I WOULDN'T HAVE EVEN CONSIDERED BUYING IT IF I HAD BEEN TOLD THIS WOULD HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT, NONE OF WHICH ARE OFF-ROADING MILES. I BELIEVE JEEP SHOULD HAVE TO WARN IT'S POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS IF THEY DO NOT WANT TO BOTHER FIXING AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD HAVE TO REMOVE ALL THEIR "TRAIL RATED" BADGES FROM ALL VEHICLES. IT'S NO WONDER CHRYSLER IS HAVING FINANCIAL TROUBLES SINCE THEY CAN'T MAKE A 4X4 THAT CAN HANDLE A BUMP.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND THE DEALER ADVISED HIM TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPLACE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DAMPER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SAME EXACT DAMPER SIX DAYS PRIOR TO IT GOING OUT. THE CONTACT STATED THE DAMPERS ARE POORLY MANUFACTURER AND DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AFTER IT'S REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.

THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE VIOLENTLY, CAUSING DIFFICULTY IN MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FRONT END DAMPER SHOCK WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000.

WHILE TRAVELING AT 75 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE I WANDERED OVER THE YELLOW LINE AND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE RAN OVER THE INDENTED 'WAKE UP' IMPRESSIONS IN THE ASPHALT AT WHICH TIME MY FRONT END BEGAN VIOLENTLY SHAKING LIKE I WAS DRIVING A JACK HAMMER. I BEGAN TO BRAKE AND MADE IT ACROSS 6 LANES OF TRAFFIC BEFORE I COULD COME TO A STOP. THE SHAKING DID NOT STOP UNTIL I CAME TO A STOP. I INSPECTED THE FRONT END COMPONENTS AND ALL WERE FINE. I SLOWLY DROVE OFF AND THE PROBLEM NO LONGER EXISTED. THIS PROBLEM IS 'DEATH WOBBLE' AND IS ALL OVER JEEP MESSAGE FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. *TR
