SERVICE BRAKES

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. The affected vehicles had brake booster shields installed under a previous campaign to prevent water from entering the brake booster and limiting braking ability. This recall is to verify that the brake booster shield installation was performed properly.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake booster shield, correcting the installation as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November10, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T59.

SERVICE BRAKES

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010, through September 8, 2013. The subject vehicles have a brake booster with a center shell that may corrode and allow water to get inside.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will add a water diverter shield to the booster after the booster has been tested to confirm it can hold an acceptable amount of vacuum pressure. If the booster inspection confirms an unacceptable loss of vacuum pressure, the booster will be replaced. Repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's recall campaign number is P14.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE

Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. Because of these conditions, the vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, "Controls and Displays," and No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N58.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while reversing the vehicle in her residence, the vehicle hit a tree. The contact stated after she shifted gears to Drive, she lost control of the vehicle, which cause the vehicle to crash into a metal gate and into a brick wall. The contact stated she did depress the brake pedal but it failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated and the air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained bruises on her left arm and left leg from hitting the steering wheel. The contact did not seek medical attention. A police report was not filed since it was her residence. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact called the insurance company and had the vehicle towed to a towing lot. The insurance company has not assessed the vehicle. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The VIN was not available.

I LEFT MY PLACE OF WORK AND WHEN I WENT TO USE MY BRAKES THEY DIDN'T FULLY WORK. I BARELY GOT STOPPED IN TIME TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE SPUTTERED AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE DOWN. I GOT IT LOOKED AT AND THEY CHANGED THE BRAKE BOOSTER. ALL WAS WELL AFTER THAT. THE PICTURE ATTACHED IS WAS I BOUGHT TO FIX MY CAR.

THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROADWAY BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE BATTERY TERMINAL WAS DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED BEFORE THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO EXCEED 30 MPH WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO GARDEN CITY JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM 283 N FRANKLIN ST, HEMPSTEAD, NY 11550 (516) 336-4712, DUE TO THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BRAKES ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY WITH THE VEHICLE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO BE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.

THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AND MORE FREQUENTLY SOUNDS THE I-BRAKE ALERT WITH NO VEHICLE OR OBSTRUCTIONS AHEAD. THE RISK POTENTIAL TO LOSE CONTROL OR BE REAR ENDED IS HIGH. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT 30MPH ON A STREET AND 60MPH WHILE ON A HIGHWAY. THE JEEP DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE ANY CAUSES OR FIXES THROUGHOUT THE LAST YEAR. THE ISSUE I HAVE WITH THAT IS I HAD TAKEN IT IN FOR THE RECALL EARLIER IN THE YEAR AND IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY TAKEN CARE OF. EITHER THEIR INTERIM FIX DID NOT WORK OR THEY DID NOT DO ANYTHING WHEN I TOOK IT IN THE FIRST TIME. WE WERE FORTUNATE NO ONE WAS HURT.

1 WEEK AFTER THE DEALERSHIP ADDED THE WATER SHIELD TO THE BRAKES AS REQUIRED BY THE RECALL THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING THE FIRST TIME YOU USED THEM AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK IT BACK AND WE'RE TOLD IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL AND THE EBT PUMP NEEDED REPLACING FOR $750. WE TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTERS WERE CORRODED AND THE EBT PUMP WAS FINE. CORRODED BRAKE BOOSTERS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL WAS INTENDED TO PREVENT AND WE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THE WORK. *TT *TR

ON AUGUST 4, 2017 AFTER STARTING MY JEEP AND DRIVING AWAY FROM PARKING SPACE I HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL WHEN TRYING TO STOP - FORTUNATELY I WASN'T GOING MORE THAN 25 MPH WHEN I NOTICED THE PROBLEM - I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A CURB AND STOP. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING AND NO WARNING LIGHTS AND THE BRAKES SEEMED OK THE NIGHT BEFORE WHEN I PARKED THE CAR. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THEY CHARGED ME $718.54 TO INSTALL A NEW POWER BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH THEY SAID WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE JEEP HAD 42834 MILES AT THE TIME. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON I-25 WHICH IS WHERE I WAS HEADING I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP AT ALL.

THE VEHICLE WENT IN FOR 4 RECALLS THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF, OTHER THAN A FLIER FROM AUTONATION SAYING I HAVE 4 OPEN RECALLS. I CONTACTED AND SCHEDULE THIS IMMEDIATELY UPON RECEIPT. THEY WERE LOOKING AT THE BRAKE BOOSTER RECALL AND FOUND THE MASTER CYLINDER TO BE SHOT. I'VE DRIVEN LOTS OF CARS FOR OVER A MILLION MILES AND NEVER HAD A MASTER CYLINDER GO BEFORE. THIS IS ALARMING THAT AT 45K MILES THIS IS SHOT. THIS PART MUST BE DEFECTIVE. IN ADDITION, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON OCCURENCE WITH 193 SUCH COMPLAINTS ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. I'VE TALKED TO FIAT CHRYSLER AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO ASSIST WITH THIS. I AM CERTAIN THEY ARE CORRECT IN IDENTIFYING THE ISSUE AS I HAVE NOTICED SOME BREAK DETERIORATION RECENTLY. JUST BECAUSE THERE WASN'T AN ACCIDENT INSTALLING FAULTY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDERS ON VEHICLES IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS PROPOSITION.

I FILED CASE #10948159 FOLLOWING AN INCIDENT ON 1/9/17 WHERE THE COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM WENT OFF AND THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE ENGAGED, DESPITE NO RISK OF COLLISION. FURTHER, THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE WAS TURNED OFF IN MY VEHICLE SETTINGS. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS REPORTED TO ME THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE, FOLLOWING AN INSPECTION. BUT YET AGAIN, ON JANUARY 31, 2017, MY COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM WENT OFF AND THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE ENGAGED, DESPITE NO RISK OF COLLISION. THE FEATURE HAS REMAINED DISABLED PER MY VEHICLE SETTINGS. IN THIS INSTANCE I WAS DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WITH MY COUSIN AND MY ALMOST 19 MONTH OLD SON IN THE CAR. OUT OF NOWHERE, THE SYSTEMS LISTED ABOVE ENGAGED. I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I FEEL AT RISK, AND WORSE, I FEEL I AM ENDANGERING MY CHILD BY DRIVING IN MY CAR. FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT, I WENT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH A SERVICE ADVISOR WHO CHECKED FOR ERROR CODES (THERE WERE NONE) AND EXPLAINED THAT THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF JEEP HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE ACTIVE BRAKING FEATURE, STATING THAT KEEPING THE CAMERA CLEAN CAN HELP, AND HE PROCEEDED TO CLEAN MY CAMERA. BUT BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE, I DID NOT LEAVE MY VEHICLE FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT, MY NOT YET NINE MONTH OLD SON WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME, SO TO AVOID ANY SAFETY CONCERNS SURROUNDING THIS BRAKING FEATURE, I TURNED THE ACTIVE BRAKING SETTING OFF IN MY CAR TO DISABLE THE FEATURE. THE FEATURE HAS REMAINED OFF SINCE THAT TIME. HOWEVER ON 1/9/17 I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AT A RED SIGNAL. THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN SO I PROCEEDED TO MOVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME HESITATED IN MOVING FORWARD, SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. BEFORE I HAD THE CHANCE TO USE THE BRAKE, THE COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM WENT OFF AND THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE ENGAGED. I WAS SHOCKED, TO SAY THE LEAST. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CHECKED MY VEHICLE SETTINGS. THE FEATURE WAS SUPPOSEDLY STILL TURNED OFF. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE, AND THEREFORE NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO ADDRESS IT. TRAVELING THROUGH NEW JERSEY ON THE HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR, STOPPED AT SMALL STORE FOR A FEW MINUTES, LEAVING THE PARKING LOT HEADING BACK TOWARDS THE MAIN ROAD AND ATTEMPT TO YIELD TO TRAFFIC, BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED 100% AND VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ROLL TOWARDS THE ROAD. THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE DRIVER TO TURN THE VEHICLE AROUND AND BACK INTO THE PARKING LOT. IN THE PARKING LOT THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED 100%, AGAIN THE BRAKES ARE BARLEY WORKING AND THE CAR TAKES ABOUT 20-30 FEET TO STOP. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2014 GRAND CHEROKEE BUT ONLY FOR MODELS MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 5, 2010, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 8, 2013. OUR GRAND CHEROKEE WAS MANUFACTURED IN NOVEMBER OF 2013 AND IS THEREFORE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL. OUR JEEP WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER, THEY TOLD US IT HAD FILLED WITH WATER (EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL FIXES). I LIVE IN NORTHERN NEW YORK (ALONG CANADIAN BORDER), SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE VERY COMMON AND POTENTIALLY WILL BE HERE VERY SOON. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER REGARDING THEIR RECALL P-16 INVOLVING THE CORROSION OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER HOUSING. IN LATE JUNE I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AND WAS ADVISED THAT CHRYSLER WAS ONLY PROVIDING BETWEEN 1 AND 5 REPAIR KITS PER WEEK AND THAT THERE WERE 30 VEHICLES AHEAD OF MINE TO BE REPAIRED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER TODAY (SEPT 3RD) AND QUESTIONED WHEN I COULD BRING MY VEHICLE IN AND WAS TOLD A DATE COULD NOT BE GIVEN DUE TO A LACK OF PARTS FROM CHRYSLER. I THEN CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS GIVEN THE SAME INFORMATION, DUE TO THE MILLIONS OF VEHICLES INVOLVED THEIR SUPPLIER COULD ONLY PROVIDE A LIMITED NUMBER OF PARTS EACH WEEK TO FIX THIS RECALL. IN ACCORDANCE WITH A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED (P14/NHTSA 14V-154), I CONTACTED MY JEEP DEALER, CARL BURGER DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM WORLD, LA MESA, CA, TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY BRAKE BOOSTER EVALUATED AND REPLACED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE CONFIRMED OVER THE PHONE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED BY THE RECALL AND THAT MY VEHICLE'S BRAKE BOOSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. SHE TOLD ME THAT MY NAME WOULD BE ADDED TO A WAITING LIST, AND THAT I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE DEALERSHIP HAD RECEIVED THE REPLACEMENT PART. I ASKED HER TO ESTIMATE THE WAITING TIME PERIOD. SHE INFORMED ME (1) THAT THERE WERE MORE THAN 260 CUSTOMERS AHEAD OF ME ON THIS WAITING LIST, (2) THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ONLY RECEIVED 45 PARTS SO FAR, AND (3) THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS RECEIVING NEW PARTS AT A RATE OF ONLY FIVE PER WEEK. BY MY ROUGH CALCULATIONS, THIS MEANS THAT I (AND OTHER CUSTOMERS) COULD EXPECT TO WAIT 43+ WEEKS (VIZ., NEARLY ONE YEAR) BEFORE RECEIVING THE REPLACEMENT PART. I WAS DRIVING APPROX 30MPH ON A SURFACE STREET AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AS A MOVED INTO A LEFT TURN LANE. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND TO TOUCH AND MY FOOT NEARLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE JEEP DECELERATED TO ALMOST A STOP UNTIL I BRIEFLY REACCELERATED TO APPROX 5MPH (BECAUSE I WAS STUNNED AND THOUGHT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE) AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AGAIN BUT MY FOOT NEARLY WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN WITHOUT A BRAKE RESPONSE. THE POWER BRAKES WERE DEFINITELY NOT WORKING, AND THE BRAKING POWER WITH MY FOOT NEARLY TO THE FLOOR WAS INCREDIBLY UNRESPONSIVE. I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT, HIT THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE BUTTON IN MY JEEP, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. EVEN THE TOW DRIVER NOTED HOW UNRESPONSIVE THE BRAKES WERE AS HE LOADED THE VEHICLE ON THE TRUCK. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP CALLED A FEW HOURS LATER TO TELL ME THAT THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED BECAUSE THE JEEP'S "MASTER CYLINDER FAILED" AND THAT "THE PARTS ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER" AND "THE PARTS ARE BEING BUILT." I RECEIVED A MANUFACTURE RECALL LETTER, WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT, THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF ANY RECALL AND HAD NO REPAIR PARTS FOR THE BRAKES. HE THEN SUGGESTED I TRY BACK IN THREE WEEKS AND SEE IF THEY HEAR ANYTHING BY THAT TIME, BUT HE ADDED, WITH ALL THE PHONE CALLS HE'S HAD TODAY, HE DID NOT KNOW IF THE COMPANY HAD ENOUGH PARTS TO COVER ALL THE VEHICLES. WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO WITH MY VEHICLE? I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE NUMBER FOR THE JEEP RECALL LISTED ON THE RECALL LETTER, BUT ALL I GET IS A RECORDING STATING ALL LINES ARE BUSY. *TR

THERE WERE NO INJURIES. 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BRAKING PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WATER ENTERED THE BRAKE BOOSTER, WHICH CAUSED IT TO FREEZE AND REDUCED BRAKING PERFORMANCE. CHRYSLER STATED THERE WAS CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER, CAUSED BY A SMALL AMOUNT EXPOSED, UNCOATED SURFACE AT THE CRIMP JOINTS, THAT ALLOWED WATER TO ENTER THE BOOSTER AND FREEZE. CHRYSLER STATED IF WATER DID NOT ENTER THE BOOSTER, THERE COULD STILL BE A LOSS OF VACUUM THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE DRIVER TO PUSH HARDER THAN NORMAL TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM WAS TO USE A SHIELD TO KEEP WATER FROM GETTING INTO THE UNIT. *JB UPDATED 06/11/14

ON 03/04/2014, THE VEHICLE, A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS OBSERVED TO HAVE EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE BRAKE ROTOR HUBS. THE RUST IS DETERIORATING THE PAINT EXPOSING THE METAL HUB TO SEVERE CORROSION. THIS MAY OVER TIME MINIMIZE THE SAFETY OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO SENT PHOTOS TO CHRYSLER DIGITAL IMAGING. CHRYSLER DENIED THE CLAIM UNDER WARRANTY STATING THAT THE CORROSION IS CONSIDERED NORMAL WEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 6200 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. *TR

I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE A SAFETY RECALL ON MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT A WEEK IN ADVANCE FOR A 2-HOUR REPAIR (AS STATED IN THE NHTSA NOTICE) AND, SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALER, TO CHECK ON ANOTHER ISSUE I NOTICED ON THE ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR OF THE AIR SUSPENSION. HOWEVER, 5 DAYS LATER I AM STILL WITHOUT MY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. AMAZINGLY, I HAVE BEEN CALLING SINCE LAST SATURDAY AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER OR MY SERVICE TECH. THE TECH SPECIALIST DO NOT REPLAY TO MY MESSAGES.THE ONLY PERSON THAT DISCUSSES THE STATUS OF MY VEHICLE IS THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT RECEPTIONIST, WHICH TODAY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER "EVALUATION". I HAVE SINCE REQUESTED THE RECEPTIONIST TO ONLY FOCUS THE REPAIR ON THE SAFETY RECALL. I HAVE REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES TO JUST HANDLE THE SAFETY RECALL. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS NHTSA'S INTENTION TO BE WITHOUT MY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR A WEEK. THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE TALKS ABOUT HOURS AND MAYBE A LITTLE MORE, BUT 5 DAYS IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP OR GUIDANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE TO GET MY CAR BACK. I AM EVEN WILLING TO JUST COORDINATE WITH ANOTHER DEALER TO GET THE RECALL WORK PERFORMED AT ANOTHER TIME. I CAN'T BE WITHOUT MY VEHICLE ANYMORE. I TALK TO CHRYSLER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN HELP ME IS THE DEALER, BUT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIVE. PLEASE HELP.
