The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 MPH, it lost automotive power. The contact turned on the hazard lights. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle stalled but was able to be restarted. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed her the vehicle began to shake and the failure was due to the tip-in. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the service air suspension message was displayed. The front end of the vehicle was sitting on the tires. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Air suspension
My Jeep's air suspension system (Quadra lift) has failed 4 times within the past year. At the beginning, the only signs there was anything wrong was that it took the vehicle several minutes to raise from the "park" setting and it would sit extremely low when parked for long periods of time. Upon bringing it to a Jeep dealer in October 2021, they informed me the front air suspension lines had a leak and needed to be replaced. A month later, I received an error message that the air suspension system needed immediate repair, at which point we discovered the compressor and relay failed and needed replacement. I was told the car was inoperable in this condition, but they could set the ride height and close the system and it would be driveable. I proceeded to drive the car in this condition for 5 months and ~5,000 miles while we waited for a backordered part to come in. Upon bringing the car into a different dealer after 5 months I was informed it was EXTREMELY dangerous to drive it in this condition (no compressor or relay, static system set at ride height). I was not told why it was dangerous nor why another dealer thought it was okay. The dealer fixed the compressor and relay and within a month the air suspension system started to show similar signs as before where the car was sagging in park and taking a long time to raise, but this time there were absolutely no warning signs or error messages with the car. I brought it in for repair a 4th time and was told the front air shocks and lines had severe leaks, rendering the car inoperable and dangerous to operate in this condition. Considering the frequency in failures and need for repairs coupled with the lack of warnings or error messages I believe this to be a safety risk. There may be many other drivers of Jeeps with the Quadra lift system driving with similar issues and no warnings that could be potentially dangerous.
THE AIR SUSPENSION - SERVICE AIR SUSPENSION LIGHT CAME ON, THE AIR SUSPENSION THEN LOWERED THE VEHICLE TO WELL BELOW NORMAL RIDE HEIGHT. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE SERVICED AND HAD THE COMPRESSOR REPLACED. 3 WEEKS LATER NOW THERE IS A MODULE AND NIGHT SENSOR SUPPOSEDLY NEEDING TO BE FIXED. NO EXTENDED WARRANTIES COVER THIS AS IT'S AN "AIR SUSPENSION" AND NOT A REGULAR SUSPENSION ACCORDING TO THEIR PAPERWORK. IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE PARTICULAR AIR SUSPENSION IN JEEP/CHRYSLER/DODGE THAT THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE. THE TIRES COULD BE BLOWN DUE TO THE LOWERED STATE OF VEHICLE AND THE FRONT TIRES CAMING OUT.
WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE MILEAGE JUMPS HIGHER THAN WHAT THE ACTUAL MILEAGE IS. PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION.
DELAMINATION OF THE LEATHER TOP OVER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS BLOCKING VENTS AND CAUSING VISIBILITY ISSUES. ADDITIONALLY THE AIR SUSPENSION IS LEAKING AT CONNECTIONS AT TOP OF STRUTS.
A FEW THINGS, ONE BEING HOW MY JGC ABRUPTLY SHUTS OFF WHILE IN MOTION(LUCKILY I WAS EXITING THE EXPRESS WAY (BOTH) TIMES) YEAH, HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE, TO THE SUSPENSION NO LONGER FUNCTIONING, ALL THE WAY TO IT DECIDING NOT TO START UP.
AIR RIDE SUSPENSION AIRBAGS HAS TO BE RECHARGED EVERY MONTH SINCE 2019. WHILE PARKED FRONT END BECOMES LOW (DURING 1-MONTH PERIOD) NOT LEAVING APPROPRIATE DISTANCE FROM WHEEL TO TOP OF WHEEL WELL, RESULTING IS A VERY BUMPING RIDE, UNTIL RECHARGED. BRAND NEW OEM LINES AND COMPRESSOR REPLACED. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH OR LESS, "AIR SUSPENSION NEEDS SERVICE" NOTIFICATION COMES ON. FRONT OF HOOD (WHERE THE CHROME JEEP IS DISPLAYED) EXTERIOR NOW SHOWS PAINT CORROSION.
VEHICLE IS MAKING A POPPING NOISE, WHEN TURNING OR HITTING BUMP REPLACED SWAY BAR END LINKS AND TIE ROD-UNABLE TO LOCATE EXACT PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. I WAS DRIVING TODAY AND WITHOUT WARNING MY FRONT WIPERS TURNED ON AND COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF, ON INSPECTING FURTHER ALL COMPONENTS ON THE STARTING WHEEL AND COLUMN ARE NOT OPERATABLE-NO SIGNALS, CRUISE, HEADLIGHTS, STEREO-NOTHING. VEHICLE ACTS LIKE ITS STUCK IN 4X4-MAKING OTHER NOISE WHILE TURNING ALSO HAVING ISSUE WITH DASH BOARD BUBBLING-POSSIBLE SAFETY CONCERN AS IT MAY INTERFERE WITH AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. IN OCTOBER 2018 WE HAD A FRONTEND COLLISION ON THE HIGHWAY WITH A DEER. SINCE THEN THE AIR SUSPENSION RIDE HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY. IT HAS BEEN IN FOR MAJOR REPAIRS NUMEROUS TIMES. THE DODGE DEALER SENDS US HOME HOPING THAT THEY GUESSED THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY. TO NO AVAIL. THE PROBLEM RETURNS. WE CALL THE HOTLINE AND PLAY PHONE TAG WITH A REPRESENTATIVE.
MY DASHBOARD BUBBLED UP ON PASSENGER SIDE, FAKE WOOD TRIM UNDER DASH FELL OFF, ALTERNATOR FAILED FRIED BATTERY AND COMPUTER, QUADRA2 SUSPENSION FAILING , THIS ALL AT 82000 MILES AND AFTER MULTIPLE RECALLS. I PAID $40 K .IM AT SHOP NOW WITH SUSPENSION 24 HRS AFTER PAYING 1200. & JEEP IN SHOP 8 DAYS. THE ALTERNATOR FAILED A WK BEFORE 3.4.2019. DASHBOARD AND TRIM OCCURRED AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED

VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO MOVE BETWEEN VEHICLE HEIGHTS OR WILL DROP AND SIT ON WHEELS MAKING IT INOPERABLE. DASH LEATHER IS WRINKLING AND BUBBLING.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR COMPRESSOR FOR THE SUSPENSION FAILED AND NEED TO THE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE AIR COMPRESSOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
THE AIR LIFT SYSTEM FAILED AND MY CAR WAS VERY LOW TO THE GROUND AND UNSAFE FOR DRIVING. THIS OCCURRED MARCH 6, 2018. DASH LEATHER IS LIFTING AND BUNCHING. STARTED IN JUNE 2017 AND IS WORSE NOW. PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS SOMETIMES JAMMED WITH PASSENGER IN IT. YOU CAN MOVE FREELY AND MY CONCERN IF THERE WERE TO BE A CRASH, WOULD THE SEAT BELT WORK PROPERLY. NONE OF THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT FAIL IN A 6 YEAR OLD VEHICLE.

THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED BY SKINNER AND DAMULIS, RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. (AT LEAST) SIX TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AT GREAT EXPENSE - WITH NO APPARENT RESOLUTION BUT TO INCUR REPAIRS COSTS IN EXCESS OF $10,000. THE 8/6/17 INCIDENT TOO, DEALT WITH THE DEFECTIVE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM WHICH, THIS TIME, CAUSED THE REAR WHEEL TO FALL OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. MY WIFE AND I INCURRED INJURIES, HOWEVER, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THIS ISSUE WAS NOT RELATED. JUST TWO DAYS AGO, THE CAR'S SUSPENSION SYSTEM LIGHTED UP ON THE DASHBOARD. PICTURES WERE TAKEN, I CALLED THE AUTO DEALER, HOWEVER, I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM. THE FIRST TIME WAS WITHIN THE FIRST 24 MONTHS, THEN AGAIN A BIT OVER 48 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP AND THIS LAST TIME WITHIN THE PAST MONTH. VEHICLE HAVE 80K MILES ON IT. EVERY TIME THE SUSPENSION FAILS, THE VEHICLE LOCK THE SUSPENSION AT A WEIRD ANGLE, PRODUCING A VERY BOUNCY RIDE AND EXTREMELY UNSAFE/UNSTABLE AT SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 50 MPH.
QUADRALIFT SUSPENSION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM HAS A HIGH PROPENSITY FOR FAILURE. THIS RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE/UNSTABLE DRIVING CONDITION. 100'S OF COMPLAINTS ARE FOUND ON THE INTERNET. A DESIGN DEFECT IN THIS SYSTEM HAS CAUSED THE HIGH FAILURE RATE. EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE OR VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND. THE VEHICLE IS NOT ROAD WORTHY AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THIS SYSTEM. HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH JEEP HQ......HOPING TO GET SOME SUPPORT FOR NOT JUST MY FAILED VEHICLE BUT THE 10-15% OF JEEP OWNERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS MODE OF FAILURE.
VEHICLE VIBRATES PAST 65 MPG... DEFECTIVE LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND BUSHING...
1. NONE OF THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WORK. I CANNOT USE THE CONTROLS TO CHANGE CHANNELS ON MY RADIO OR INCREASE / LOWER THE VOLUME. I CANNOT USE THE TELEPHONE HANDS FREE CONTROLS WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A PHONE CALL... 2. ALL OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING. REGARDLESS OF WHAT CAR DOOR IS OPENED 3. LIGHT CAME ON SAYING TRACTION CONTROL WAS OFF. THE LIGHT WAS A PICTURE OF A CAR WITH TWO SQUIGGLY LINES BEHIND IT. I TRIED PRESSING THE TRACTION CONTROL BUTTON ON THE DASH BOARD PANEL ALONGSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER BUTTON. BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK. 4. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF (HAVE TO REMOVE THE FUSE IN ORDER TO STOP THE WIPERS). I TRIED SQUIRTING THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID --- BUT IT WILL NOT WORK. MY REAR WINDOW WIPER WILL NOT TURN ON.... EVEN THOUGH I TRIED TO TURN IT ON SEVERAL TIMES. 5. I HAVE NO TURN SIGNALS. THEY WOULD NOT COME ON NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I FLIPPED THE LEVER UP OR DOWN. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE 6. MY HORN DOES NOT WORK - MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE 7. MY HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT GO TO HIGH BEAM EVEN THOUGH THE DIAL IS SET TO AUTO. NOT TO MENTION MY WINDSHIELD WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED (LEAKS LOTS OF WATER WHEN RAINING) REPLACED --- STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PART # 1HE80HL9AF) - ACCORDING TO NORTHWEST JEEP IN BEAVERTON OREGON THAT WAS THE ISSUE -NOT DID NOT FIX A SINGLE ISSUE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (PART # 68244852AA) - ACCORDING TO OTHER COMPLAINTS, THIS PART ALSO NEEDS REPLACED (SEEMS THAT PART OF TH TIPM WAS REPLACED - THE WHOLE UNIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED.) WE ARE EXTREMELY UPSET AND DISPLEASED WITH CHRYSLER.... FOR THE POOR QUALITY OF THE PARTS THEY USED WHEN BUILDING MY 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND. WE BOUGHT THIS 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND IN JUNE 2015 AND FOR BEING 4 YEARS OLD, IT SHOULD NOT BEING HAVING ALL THESE PROBLEMS!!!
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT LEFT FRONT SPINDLE BROKE CAUSING ME TO HIT A WALL. MY SPEED WAS UNDER 4MPH.THIS BREAK RESULTED IN THE BENDING OF LF FRONT STRUT,LF OUTTER TIE ROD ALONG WITH OTHER PROBLEMS. IF BREAK HAD OCCURED AT HIGHWAY SPEED WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR VARIOUS REPAIRS, BUT THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE UNSTABLE SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,500.

PURCHASED 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND USED IN SUMMER OF 2012. 3RD JEEP AND HAVE STAYED WITH JEEP BECAUSE FELT THEY WERE A SAFE RELIABLE CAR. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE THE CAR WOULD SOUND LIKE IT WAS "COMPUTING" NEAR THE ENGINE--WHILE OFF AND KEY NOT NEAR CAR. TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL. ALARM STARTED TO GO OFF FOR NO REASON, DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT ON DRIVER SIDE STOPPED WORKING (NOT BULB) AND STARTED WORKING A FEW DAYS LATER ON ITS OWN. CAR NO START OR HARD START SEVERAL TIMES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON AND OFF, KEY NOT FOUND, ETC. 5/19/14 EXITING HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 75 MPH (59,000 MILES) BRAKES DON'T WORK. CAR SLOWS BUT WON'T STOP. NO LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOR BRAKE PROBLEM. IT WAS PETRIFYING. CALLED DEALER IN MORNING AND THEY INDICATED NOT WARRANTY AND NOT RECALL SO ORDERED BRAKE BOOSTER FROM DEALER AND REPLACED. WAS WITHOUT VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. 5/28/14 DRIVING APPROX. 75 ON HIGHWAY--DASH LIGHTS FLASH, CAR SHAKES AND SHUDDERS UNCONTROLLABLY, SCREEN READS SERVICE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM AND ETC CODE. EXIT HIGHWAY CAR HAS NO SUSPENSION. STOP MAKE PHONE CALL AND RESTART CAR AND NO LIGHTS, WARNINGS, AND SUSPENSION BACK. DRIVING 35 MPH ON BUSY CITY STREET (IN FRONT OF SCHOOL) CAR DASH FLASHES AND GOES BLACK--A RED LIGHTNING BOLT APPEARS AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. NO BRAKES, POWER STEERING, HAZARD LIGHTS, SUSPENSION, ETC. I WAS TERRIFIED! PUSHED DOWN ACCELERATOR AND CAR STARTS BACK UP (SIMILAR TO DEPRESSING GAS PEDDLE ON GOLF CART). TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A BRAKE SENSOR AND THE SUSPENSION WORKED. SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. TIPM MUST BE THE CAUSE BASED ON 1000S OF OWNERS COMMENT. FILED COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER TODAY. FRIGHTENED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHER CARS, PEOPLE, ETC. DRIVE OVER 100 MILES PER DAY ON HIGHWAY. CAN'T OBTAIN TIPM PART. MUST USE CAR TO WORK BUT SAFETY CONCERNS WITH DRIVING. *TR
THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE REGARDING THE TIPM'S UNIT. IT FIRST CAME UP A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN APRIL 2013. THE UNIT WAS FLASHED AND THE PROBLEM "FIXED" UNDER WARRANTY. THIS JANUARY IT IS NOW NOT ONLY TAKING 2-10 ATTEMPTS TO START, MY GAS MILEAGE HAS SEVERELY DECREASED AND THERE IS A FUNNY ODOR ONCE THE CAR IS STARTED. I CANNOT GO TO THE DEALERSHIP IN MY CURRENT TOWN AS THERE ARE OVERLY INNONDATED WITH WORK TRUCKS FOR THE OIL FIELD SO I AM FORCED TO TAKE MY CAR TO ABILENE WHICH IS AN 85 MILE TRIP EACH WAY TO HAVE ANY WORK DONE ON IT. I WORK FOR A NON PROFIT IN MY TOWN AND THEREFORE DRIVE AROUND TO NOT SO SAFE PLACES DAILY AND HATE BEING STUCK WITH A CAR THAT WONT START. THIS POSSIBLE COULD CORRELATE TO THE ISSUES WITH MY MOTOR IN THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED IN DECEMBER OF 2013 THAT LUCKILY WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT HAD BEEN AN ISSUE AS WELL BEFORE THE WARRANTY MILEAGE ENDED. *TR
ON 10/18/13 I WAS TRAVELING 40 MPH ON A MAIN ROAD AND AN F-250 PULLED OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC FROM BEING STOPPED ON A SIDE ROAD AND WE COLLIDED. BOTH OUR VEHICLES HAD TO BE TOWED AWAY. I HIT HIS DRIVER SIDE AREA AND MY WHOLE FRONT END WAS SMASHED, BUMPER TORN OFF, FLUID LEAKING FROM THE CAR. IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. I HAD MY BABY IN THE CAR SEAT IN THE BACK BUT HE WAS FINE. I WAS FINE TOO ASIDE FROM BEING SORE FOR 3 WEEKS AND GETTING WHIPLASH BUT THE MAIN ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME IS THAT MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG NEVER WENT OFF. IT SEEMS TO ME IT SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF AND I'M WONDERING IF SOMETHING IS FAULTY. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT IT WHILE IT WAS IN THE SHOP, DIDN'T DO THAT, NOW THEY WANT US TO BRING TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE CODE READ AND IN THE MEANTIME I'M STILL DRIVING AROUND IN A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE VEHICLE. AND SOMEONE ELSE OUT THERE WITH THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE MIGHT BE AS WELL....... *TR
THE 1ST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO THEN NOW AT 25K MILES CLUNKING SOUND FROM REAR END THE DEALER IS REPLACING THE SHOCKS AND SHOCK MOUNTS FOR THE 2ND TIME.. NO REASON WHY BUT I AM NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AM I GOING HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!!!!! *TR
I HAVE A 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND.THE VEHICLE CLUNKS IN THE REAR END GOING OVER BUMPS AT LOW SPEEDS. TURNS OUT THIS IS DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE SHOCKS/SHOCK MOUNTS. IT ONLY AFFECTS VEHICLES WITH QUADRA LIFT SUSPENSION AND TOWING PACKAGE. INCLUDING THE ORIGINALS, I HAVE HAD 4 SETS OF REAR SHOCKS PUT ON--WITH 3 INDIVIDUAL SHOCKS BREAKING-WHICH I CONSIDER A SAFETY HAZARD. FROM REPORTS ON JEEPGARAGE.ORG, THERE ARE AT LEAST 12 OF US IN THAT SMALL GROUP RANGING FROM 2011 TO 2014 MODEL YEARS WITH THIS ISSUE. I MADE 5 OR 6 100 MILE ROUND TRIPS TO THE DEALER WHO CHANGED SHOCKS AS HE WAS TOLD TO BY CHRYSLER. THEY CAME OUT WITH 3 DIFFERENT SHOCK TYPES (#'S) AND SHOCK MOUNTS TO FIX THIS-NO SUCCESS. NOW ONE OF OUR GROUP WITH A 2013 JGC LAREDO HAS BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS "NORMAL TO HAVE CLUNKING"-EVEN AFTER HE TOLD THEM THAT ONE SHOCK WAS COMPLETELY FROZEN.THEY ALSO HAVE HAD 2 OR 3 TSB'S ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM WITH INEFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS. SO NOW A "PROBLEM" IS NORMAL. ALL ANY OF US WANT IS FOR OUR SHOCKS TO BE SAFE AND QUIET ON VEHICLES WE PAID OVER 40K FOR. PERHAPS YOU CAN HOLD CHRYSLER ACCOUNTABLE. *TR
