After filling up your gas tank, your Compass stalls, shakes, sputters, and becomes difficult to steer for about a tenth of a mile — this happens every time you refuel. The engine usually recovers after running a few more miles or restarting, but the power steering becomes nearly impossible to control during these episodes, creating a serious safety risk. Additionally, the fuel pump shuts off repeatedly while filling even though your tank is empty, taking about 30 minutes to complete a fill-up at any gas station. A mechanic should inspect the fuel system, fuel pump sensor, and engine control module to diagnose why the engine stalls after refueling and check for any steering or electrical issues that occur during these events.

I'VE OWNED A 2010 JEEP COMPASS FOR TWO YEARS NOW. I USE IT AS A WORK VEHICLE. RECENTLY IT STARTED MAKING A VERY ROUGH SOUNDING NOISE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. IT WOULD BE DEEP AND DISGRUNTLED AND THEN HIGH PITCHED ALMOST WHISTLING. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THE FRONT SUBFRAME IS RUSTED SO BAD IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE. SO I STARTED LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE ONLINE AND THERE ARE DOZENS AND DOZENS OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR JEEPS. AND TO MAKE IT ALL WORSE JEEP SEEMS TO WANT TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. IT'S UNSAFE AND IT'S GOING TO GET SOMEONE SEVERELY HURT OR KILLED.
THE STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING AFTER DRIVING AROUND 40 MILES. HAVE HAD THE CAR REALIGNED AND BOUGHT SEVERAL NEW TIRED GET THIS PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. THE HORN GOES OFF IN ITS OWN WHETHER DRIVING OR STATIONARY, AND WITHOUT ANYONE PRESSING ON THE HORN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STATS ON EVEN AFTER TAKEN TO BE SERVICED. THIS HAS OCCURRED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.
2010 JEEP COMPASS HAS FRONT END PROBLEMS THAT ARE NON-FIXABLE. CAR DOESN'T HOLD AN ALIGNMENT (4 SETS OF FRONT TIRES IN 3 YEARS), HAD TOTAL FRONT END CONTROL ARMS, INCLUDING JOINTS, REPLACED. NEED TIRE REPLACEMENT NOW FOR OUTER WEAR. CAR VIBRATES AROUND 40 MPH AND GETS WORST AT HIGHER SPEEDS. WAS TOLD BY TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS THAT THIS IS THE NORM AND THE COMPASS FRONT END AND STEERING IS BAD. THIS VEHICLE ALSO HAS THE GAS TANK BELOW THE BUMPER AND GETS LOWER IF YOU FILL WITH GAS. KNOWN HAZARD BUT NO RECALL OR BUY BACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIE ROD END, THE BOOSTER, AND STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION.I WAS INFORMED THAT ONE OF THE FRONT BALL JOINTS AND TIE ROD WAS BAD. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN USED OFF ROAD! I HAVE BEEN ON A NUMBER OF JEEP FORUMS AND IT'S APPARENT THAT THE BALL JOINTS HAVE BEEN A BIG PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES.I GUESS THEY ARE WAITING FOR A SERIUS ACCIDENT ACCIDENT AND SOME ONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT OR WORSE KILLED BEFORE THEY MAKE A RECALL LIKE THEY DID WITH THE JEEP LIBERTY'S! *JS
