2018 Jeep Cherokee Engine Problems

While driving the vehicle the engine loses total power and says to shift to park. No engine lights come on, no warning lights. Total loss of power is a serious issue - reading on the jeep forums this is not an uncommon problem.

I have had several times where I will be driving and the engine cuts out and you lose all power and power steering. The screen comes up and says shift to park or neutral press brake + gear. I put in park and after few minutes it usually restarts on first try.

After period of changes in cold and hot weather swinging from 70s to 30s car began to have a small oil leak. Took vehicle in for oil change at 120,xxx miles and no leak was found, over the next weeks the leak got worse and during driving the vehicle would intermittently display low oil pressure warning. After checking the dipstick there was very little oil.

Please note we are religious about vehicle care, maintenance and safety. What I describe was not due to lack of maintenance and had zero warning.

This vehicle is a 2018 jeep with 37700 miles on it. When driving the recently it would stall in traffic. Then it was difficult to restart for a few minutes then it would start again.

I have oil leaking from between the engine and cylinder head which has leaked enough to coat the engine block and is also losing coolant. Dealer diagnosed as a seepage says is normal and says chrysler won't fix it. So according to chrysler your 2.4 engine is supposed to leak and burn oil.

2018 jeep cherokee limited has stalled out multiple times over the last week (12/5/19), upon slowing and starting. The stalling has caused me to come to a dead stop on a main roads. I was almost rear ended because I could not restart and move out the way.

My Jeep has been randomly stalling while driving in the city. The check engine light came on. I had to tow my Jeep to the dealer.

Since we bought it new, it has stalled when turning (usually left) when the oil level gets low. I have taken it to the dealership where they have told me that I should have to put oil in it frequently and that the engine shutting off is a safety mechanism. In march, driving down red road - car suddenly stalled and then shut down completely. As it was shutting down, I was able to move it to the right lane as to avoid the traffic. Called tow truck and when they came, went to jump the car and there was no need - car started.

The car will stall while making a turn (slowly or fast) and will also stall while coming to a stop. The oil light will come on for a split second then cut off. The vehicle will then stop running but will remain in the run position and you'll have to start the car again and wait for it to turn over as it sounds like it's dying.

My car completely runs out of oil between oil changes. What this then does, is cause the limp mode to come on and stall my vehicle. This happened in intersections, and on the highway, before I myself figured out my car had no oil.

On two different occasions the engine shut off unexpectedly and without warning while driving. Once on a hill, the next time on a highway. There were no indicator lights or other warning systems in place.

While turning corners, vehicle sometimes stalls. When reported to service department,they said it is a safety feature to let you know oil is low. Our oil can be at 35% and cause the car to stop driving in the middle of a roadway...that is not safe!

I bought a brand new 2018 jeep latitude and at 4300 miles it started acting up and shut down right in the middle of the road I was traveling. I had to use roadside assistance and have it towed.jeep stated that it was burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles stated it was 4 quarts of oil low. They also stated that they didn't know where it was burning from either.

Picked up the vehicle from southern jeep greenbrier va. March 17, 2018, after transmission was replaced, 854 miles on vehicle. Drove the vehicle 22 miles home without incident.

My 2018 Jeep Cherokee suffered a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure in February 2025 while my family was on vacation. The vehicle was delivered to Walker Jeep in Alexandria, Louisiana and has remained there for approximately one year. I reside in Texas, approximately five hours away.

A common issue with Jeeps with plastic oil filter housing is the oil filter housing cracks leading to oil leaks and engine damage.

SVC 4WD warning. Diagnosed at Jeep Dealership (Recommend replace due to CODE C14A7-97 - PTU Motor-Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked. Part is on a back-order status, the only information provided from the manufacturer is they are working to obtain part status.

2018 Jeep Cherokee Limited, 154k miles currently. Purchased vehicle from third party with under 100k miles. Vehicle maintenance was always done per manufacturer suggestions(from third party and myself), at 152k miles I noticed vehicle overheating when driving 25-55MPH (with AC off).

Unknown…the Jeep using oil terribly, with no leaks. I have it serviced every 3000 miles, and it is always low or no oil on the dipstick at that time. I just had the oil changed, and fuel injection cleaned about a month ago…less than 700 miles since.

Service shifter light comes on and stuck in whatever gear due to all the lights light up and you don't know what gear it is in , TSB has been issued for jeep cherokee and dealership wants to charge diagnostic fee , this is a manufacturer defect and needs to be a recall !!!

The indicator came on stating the engine was running hot. Turns out there was a leak in the radiator. My car is less than 4 years old and just hit 60,000 miles.

My 2018 jeep cherokee latitude plus shut off while driving. The first time (12/8/2019 @ 1200 hrs) I was pulling up to a stop sign and it just shut off. No dash indicator warning lights and it had plenty of fuel.

Vehicle while driven made an alert ping when making left and right hand turns with no other indicator. Following day vehicle completely shut down while driving on the interstate at 55 MPH with oil pressure indicator illuminated as well as multiple errors about placing vehicle in drive and shifting (although vehicle is an automatic). Dealership contacted and vehicle brought in for inspection.

About a month and a half ago I was making a uturn on a city street and the car chimed. The car now chimes every time I make any type of turn. I took it in to the dealership and they are saying that the engine is burning the oil therefore I had no oil in my car.

In november car completely shut off, having no steering and hard breaking. Took car in for this along with an oil change dealership stated this was a software update. They performed the update but failed to tell me anything else.

While company employee was driving the vehicle, without warning, the engine shuts down. It has happened numerous times, at highway speeds, and also in town in traffic without warning. The jeep dealer said it needed an oil change, but the oil life monitor says there is still 56% oil life remaining.

The car burns oil too fast. When the car is low on oil, there is NO INDICATION and the engine will stop. Even when you are driving.

Engine shuts of while driving

When the car detects low oil it shuts off. The engine sputters and the car will shut off- even when driving- causing a safety issue. There is NO LOW OIL indicator light.

Car turn off on its own error code P2172 U1428 maybe throttle body. Other Jeep have a recall on this but my VIN isn’t included.

Car burns oil at an excessive rate-pouring in about a quart per week. If it gets too low (even before suggested oil change mileage) the engine shuts off while driving. No warning or indicator lights.

My sister was driving when the car suddenly turn off on the street. She turned it back on and everything was fine, I'm afraid of driving the car and something worse may happen.

I pulled to my home and the service shifter indicator lights came on. This is the second time that this has happened when putting my car in reverse.

Filled up on gas, when starting the care it stated oil change soon. 3 miles down the road the car started to shutter like it wanted to shut off. With in 20 miles it did this 7 times on a freeway.

Irregular oil consumption in the 2.4 liter model of the jeep cherokee. While driving on the highway the car shut off due to low oil pressure. There was not any warning and the car was not due for an oil change.

Ever since I purchased the vehicle I can not go more than 3,000 miles after an oil change without the vehicle shutting off on my and being bone dry on oil on the dip stick. I keep being told this particular model just burns a little extra oil but there is something wrong. It is shutting off on me in the middle of highways while I'm driving and is very unsafe.

Burning one quart of oil every 1,400 to 1,500 miles since it turned 30,000 miles
