FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
CERTAIN AFTERMARKET AIRTEX ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS INSTALLED FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR CERTAIN 1997-2004 JEEP WRANGLER; 1997-2001 JEEP CHEROKEE; 1997-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE; AND 2000-2003 DODGE DAKOTA VEHICLES. THE PLASTIC ELECTRICAL GROMMET CONNECTORS AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH AUTOMOTIVE FUELS AND MAY DEGRADE CAUSING A POTENTIAL LEAK PATH FOR FUEL.
Fix: AIRTEX WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED FUEL PUMPS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 25, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AIRTEX CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT 1-800-880-3056.

ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 4.0L ENGINE ONLY, THE DESIGN OF THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS COULD ALLOW DEBRIS TO ACCUMULATE AT THE #3 CYLINDER LOCATION.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A MANIFOLD SHIELD TO MODIFY THE AIR FLOW CHARACTERISTICS AND TO PREVENT THE ACCUMULATION OF DEBRIS IN THE AREA OF THE #3 CYLINDER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 13, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

I PRESENTLY DON'T HAVE A PICTURE OF THE GAS POURING OUT FROM THE GAS TANK AREA. I CAN GET YOU ONE UPON YOUR REQUEST. THEIR IS ALREADY A INVESTIGATION ON MY JEEP IN THE WORKS. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. THE FUMES ARE MAKING ME SICK FROM WITHIN. MY GAS TANK IS LEAKING FROM SOMEWHERE. I'VE WAS PULLED OVER FROM A STRANGER ON THE ROAD AFTER FILLING THE TANK UP TWICE IN ONE WEEK LAST WEEK. THE MAN SAID MY GAS IS LEAKING OUT. I ASK HOW HE KNEW AND HIS RESPONSE WAS MY FUMES WERE COMING INTO HIS CAR AND MY TANK UNDER THE JEEP WAS WET. I GOT OUT AND WENT TO INVESTIGATE TO SEE FUEL POURING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE HOME AND PARKED MY JEEP. I OBSERVE DEAD GRASS IN MY YARD ALSO WHERE ITS PARKED. THIS TYPE OF SMELLING OF FUMES AND WITNESSES OF MY FUEL WASTING ON THE GROUND IS A CONSISTS OCCURRENCE FROM STRANGERS. BOTH TRAVELING ON THE STREETS OF DAYTONA BEACH FLORIDA, PARKED AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE AS WELL AS MY OWN YARD.

WE ARE LOCATED IN SOUTH FLORIDA. I'VE CALL SOME CHRYSLER DEALER IN MY AREA, AND THEY SAY THAT THERE ARE NO RECALL FOR MY CAR CONCERNING THESES TWO SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED THIS NUMBER I SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE AND I EXPLAINED WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS TOO OLD FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE CRANK SENSOR AND FUEL FILTER WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS BEING REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTIONS. AIR CONDITIONER FAN AND CONTROL BOX HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND REPLACE MULITPLE TIMES NOW AND AGAIN IS BROKE. THE BRAKES/ROTORS ARE BAD HANDLING AND THE FUEL ECONOMY DOES NOT GET WHAT EVEN THE COMPUTER STATED. *AK

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. IT IS DIFFICULT TO START. OFTEN YOU HAVE TO TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF 3-5 TIMES BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO CRANK OVER THE ENGINE. THIS WILL BUILD ENOUGH PRESSURE IN THE TANK TO GET IT STARTED. THE OTHER METHOD YOU MUST USE IS TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER FOR 5-10 SECONDS, AND IT WILL NEVER START DOING THIS THE FIRST TIME, BUT THEN WHEN YOU LET OFF THE KEY FOR 5 SECONDS, AND START AGAIN, IT WILL FINALLY CRANK THE ENGINE OVER. THIS GETS OLD, AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN WHEN SELLING THE VEHICLE. TO TOP IT OFF, THE FUEL PUMP IS IN THE TANK MAKING IT VERY LABOR INTENSIVE TO FIX. IN LOOKING AT THE INTERNET, WE FOUND SEVERAL SIMLAR SAFTEY COMPLAINTS AND THAT JEEP(CHRYSLER/DEMLER) HAS DETERMINED THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OF A PATTERN TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK AFTER FILLING IT UP AT THE GAS STATION. FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS TANK. CONDITION GOES AWAY AND THEN RETURNS AGAIN 9-12 MONTHS AFTER REPAIR. OBDVIOUSLY PARTS ARE FAILING FOR THE SAME REASON. CAR WILL LOSE APPROX.3 GALLONS AFTER LEAVING GAS STATION DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. SOMEONE IS GOING TO END UP DEAD IF THEY DONT CORRECT THIS. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE SAME RECALL. I CANT AFFORD THE PARTS AND LABOR TO REPAIR IT, LEAVING ME NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT.
