2016 Hyundai Tucson Transmission Problems

Your 2016 Hyundai Tucson GDI engine is consuming oil much faster than normal, causing the oil level to drop dangerously low between changes. You've experienced stalling during acceleration, had to replace the turbocharger, and most recently the engine shook violently on the highway when you ran out of oil; the check engine light then came on and stayed on. The dealership suspects engine damage but won't cover repairs under warranty since there are no active recalls, leaving you responsible for all repair costs.

Car died/lost power while driving in traffic 11/28/25. Good Samaritan was kind enough to push me off the road out of traffic. Car was towed to Hyundai dealer that day, then 12/1 told engine failure, required engine replacement.

My Tucson has been using an absurd amount of oil for the past 30,000 plus miles I had it in the shop for repairs for the exhaust/ turbo leaking due to broken stud bolt that finally was covered under warranty. But did nothing for the burning of oil. No oil leaks.

December 2024: Hyundai dealership diagnosed my transmission as defective (unable to shift properly) and recommended a full replacement. Despite this, they assured me the vehicle was "safe to drive" without disclosing risks.

I bought my 2016 Tuscon brand new. Ever since I bought the vehicle, I've complained to the dealer about the transmission slipping. They have told me that this issue is common but there is nothing they can do.

The engine began to make a knocking noise. Upon our inspection, the vehicle had lost all oil. Vehicle was towed to our local dealership.

Engine heating problems, electrical problems and now engine failure, the vehicle is no longer safe to drive. The vehicle is available for inspection. Other vehicles of same make, model, and year have been recalled for these issues however mine has not.

I already had a recall scheduled 4 days before this accident but 2 days before the engine failure I heard a ticking in the engine , didn’t think much of it because the engine was still running ( 93k miles on the car) so I was going to tell the dealer the problem when I took it for the recall fix appointment but on the way home my car instantly went from 70-30 in the middle of the highway I had the car towed to the Hyundai Dealer and they said rod had broke and said also something about the oil being dirty when I literally had the oil changed days before , but end result my 2nd owners warranty didn’t cover the vehicle even with rod failures being a recurring problem with my trim.

I have been to multiple Hyundai dealerships, and opened about 3 to 4 Hyundai consumer cases; for WELL known engine problems. My vehicle has failed oil tests and combustion tests done by Hyundai dealers. Springfield Hyundai/ Genesis kept my vehicle for 5 months claiming they found issues with the engine that was consistent with the other vehicles recalled for obsessive oil consumption.

Unable to move the car while in traffic. The car slows down in traffic creating the possibility of accidents/crashes. The car will not go forward and only moves in reverse.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Tuscon Limited Turbo which I bought USED in August of 2018. The same week I left the lot I returned multiple times complaining that the car was hesitating and seemed like the transmission was having problems. The car would hesitate to go from a stop, several times leaving me and my infant (at the time) in the middle of intersections crossing traffic and unable to move.

When driving the vehicle is slow to accelerate hence posing a risk of being rear ended. It makes loud noises when going down hill and it tends to slow down even when you're foot is on the gas pedal. This is a concern for me since I have a small child that rides with me to and from school.

I have made multiple complaints to Jenkins Hyundai of leesburg about my car hesitating and not going like it should and almost causing multiple accidents because it wouldn’t go when it should. However, they stated nothing was out of the ordinary and to just drive it in sport mode. Well I’m December of 2020, the turbo went out while driving home.

On several occasions (about twice a month, in various types of driving conditions), when attempting to accelerate from a slow roll or a complete stop, the engine has revved freely and the vehicle did not move forward, despite being in drive.

Hello, I bought a used 2016 hyundai tucson eco less then a month ago from autonation that had only 40,000 miles on it. Within 2 weeks of buying the vehicle, the check engine turned on for a p259f trouble code for a turbocharger position sensor that I had got from using autonation's vehicle app.

While stopped at a stop sign I let off the brake and hit the gas and the car did not want to move it seemed like it was in neutral and once it starts moving the car starts jerking and slips from 1 to 2nd gear. Same thing has happened at traffic lights, and merging into traffic. After taking it to the dealer and reprogramming the computer it will still do it.

Trans doesn' work right in first gear does't go in gear right a way I will get rear ended oneday

In august 2016 I purchased a 2016 hyundai tucson limited. Since day one, while in traffic the vehicle will begin to shudder until near stall. The shuddering occurs when either rolling forward, accelerating the gas, or sitting idle, as a result my car does not respond to acceleration at all times.

When pulling out onto a road from a stop sign, my car will barely accelerate, and the rpms will race for a few seconds before the car suddenly lurches into gear and finally moves. This has caused several near accidents (thankfully, no accidents yet). This doesn't happen every time, but enough to be very dangerous, especially with new drivers in my house.

It shocks me the fatality rate with these vehicles isn't through the roof, I've taken my vehicle to the shop 4 times already and haven't had it 6 months yet, the complete loss of power when you accelerate is dangerous & I'm surprised accidents while pulling out into on coming traffic isn't extremely high, because the lack of power,pull, hesitation & at times nearly cutting off is gonna get someone hit by a semi and the only thing either of the hyundai service departments say is "it's just the double clutch 7 gear transmission and that's normal, well if the transmission skipping and causing studdering hesitation and little to no acceleration when taking off is normal then I don't know how hyundai is still in business, it's awful and it's dangerous.

When I push the acceleration from a complete stop the vehicle will not accelerate. It also jerks when slowing down from gear 2 to 1.this happens a lot on the city street or when in traffic and has almost caused wrecks multiple times.

About four months after we purchased our vehicle, it began rattling when we would slow down to park or make turns. The best way I can explain is like when a manual transition is about to shut off because its not going in to the correct gear. We took the vehicle to the dealership and they told us that because of the dual transmission, this was expected.

My hyundai tucson transmission does not shift in a logical and predictable manner, occasionally not responding when I need acceleration such as pulling into traffic at a junction. My wife nearly had a collision when the transmission did not respond correctly when needed. Additionally the clutch judders and shakes the whole vehicle when moving slowly in traffic and when pulling away from a stop.

Once per day, while driving on flat ground, the car displays the message "steep grade! Press brake pedal" (page 5-20 in the owners manual). When this happens, the car completely dies and can not accelerate.

The dealer checked for the latest tcm update, said it had the recall update installed and said that all was ok and don't drive in eco mode.

Given a 2016 national service recall, (16v628000) perhaps you are aware of the 'hesitation' and related dangerous flaws in the regular operation of hyundai tucson vehicles with a 'dual clutch' transmission. We purchased our vehicle new on 09/05/2015 from a hyundai dealer.

Vehicle does not move when accelerator pedal is pressed. Or it moves and then stops while the accelerator is pressed. Stutters during acceleration as well.

While attempting to pull out of a private drive again 4 days ago, with plenty of time before on coming traffic was close, my car would not accelerate with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. It finally did accelerate when traffic was dangerously close. This has happened previously and is unacceptable.

Sitting in traffic because of a accident my tucson would not move when I pressed the accelator for about 2 seconds the rpms would go up, then the transmission would engage and the vehicle would lung forward. This continued for about 2 hours. I believe the dual clutch transmission is at fault.

I had taken my tuscon in 3 different times for all the same issues every time (1) delayed acceleration from a complete stop while crossing oncoming traffic with my 2 yr old son in the car (2) not accelerating at all from a complete stop but the RPM's revving high before finally jerking into gear and taking off and (3) jerking when I am in traffic and I press the gas.

Bought the car at approx. Now just over 18k miles, while on the highway, the car would not accelerate over 55mph, despite the rims revving to 5k-6k. Then light came on saying transmission was overheating.

We currently lease the 2016 hyundai tucson fuel cell. On multiple occasions there has been a sudden and sporadic loss of power during normal driving operation. Most recently, while traveling approximately 70 MPH on a ca fwy the car lost about 90% of its power without warning bringing max speed to less than 15 MPH!

When accelerating from a stop I have had several problems with the vehicle not speeding up. It acts as if it is not getting gas. I can push the gas pedal all the way down to the floor and it just keeps going the same speed (about 2-5mph).

Occasionally, on a city street at stop signal or stop sign, vehicle fails to accelerate from a stop as gas pedal is pressed. Revs to high RPM's, and as transmission catches up, the vehicle lunges forward violently, nearly causing rear end collision on several different occasions. This is my second complaint concerning this vehicle. My original complaint was on 06/27/16 where I stated that the car will neutral out when taking off from a stop. As so many have said in there complaints, vehicle is unsafe to drive.

I purchased this car in april & only had 2400 miles on it when this happened! We were driving along the interstate on 8/11/16, everything was fine until we stopped (in bumper to bumper traffic) to pay the toll. Upon acceleration, the car just revved, no forward movement at all!

The car consistently hesitates and violently jerks upon acceleration. Additionally, several times after a complete stop, the car will not accelerate when pushing on the gas. The engine revs, but it feels like the car isn't fully in gear (like riding the clutch in a manual transmission).

Multiple experiences after being stopped (red light, stop sign, fast food drive thru ) with the transmission remaining in drive and brakes engaged, when trying to move forward, the transmission doesn't engage. RPM's increase, but no movement in the vheicle. Then it lurches forward.

I bought this car in march of 2016 with about 20 miles on it. After around 1000 miles the transmission started getting hot and would stall out. I would have to wait five to six minutes for me to restart the car.

Have encountered several instances of dct not engaging after "creep" or "crawl" to a stop sign awaiting right-of-way to proceed. Following "creep" and subsequent stop at sign, just enough propulsion is given to enter the intersection, and then dct disengages and high engine rpms with no forward propulsion, whatsoever. Has very nearly caused a broad-side accident on a number of occasions.

I had a half dozen incidents where the dct either does not engage or only moves the car very slowly which indicates that it is slipping badly. I also have had 2 incidents where the car accelerated at first and then stopped accelerating as I was trying to make a left hand turn from a stop sign.

I was stopped at a stoplight, but when the light turned green the car wouldn't go forward. Instead the engine just revved and rpms went up, but no movement forward and no warning lights or sounds came on. I immediately flipped on my emergency flashers and tried several times to restart and go again, but two cars crashed into each other next to me as they tried to go around me.

Went to a hyundai dealership to buy the hyundai santa fe model. They didn't have one in stock but told me that the hyundai tucson model was just like the santa fe but a smaller version. I got the tucson vehicle and in 2 days the air conditioner only blew hot air while on the highway.

Just as many others have reported on three occasions I have not had movement to the wheels when in drive. It feels as though you are in neutral and hitting the gas. Lucking two of the times this occurred while leaving my garage, the other time was while at a red light that turned green.

After stopping at a stop sign, the transmission did not engage. The gears were grinding and eventually they snapped into position causing the vehicle to lunge forward. Waiting at a light on a slight incline. Pushed accelerator engine revs and nothing. No power is transferred to the drive wheels.

No drive gear or reverse gear sometimes and sporadically, take off from drive or reverse. No power on take off it revs rpms.at an stand still at a corner or a red light or in traffic on a busy highway it just revs rpms you have to keep taking in and out of gear and hope youcan make it home without no one crashing into the back of you or car lunging forward into some 1 else.

As I was returning from lunch to work on a local highway the transmission started to slip and act abnormal. From stopping at stop lights to running the vehicle at the posted speed limits I felt I was going to cause an accident because the car just accelerated and slowed down. The rpms of the engine increased and decreased during this time.

Purchased january 2016 - limited AWD with factory installed tow hitch. Immediately noticed flickering interior lights and both head lights leaked, one side has been replaced. Later on developed hard start ups, shifting and acceleration issues.

Problem concerns the 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Clutch plates in the transmission may not engage in drive or any forward gears after stopping at an intersection, toll booth, etc. When you apply power to move forward the clutch plates inside the transmission will not engage.

On january 11, 2016 I was going on an entrance ramp to interstate 10 in jacksonville, fl. And as I was entering the interstate, there was a lag time in the engine, and power was not getting to the wheels. I had the accelerator floored and it just wouldn't move.

The problem that I am having is when I start to accelerate going through the gears 1,2,3 and 4 there is a huge, pause/delay in shifting through the gears. In fact there has been may times when I start to accelerate the gears pauses and I hit the gas again and the vehicle does not accelerate at all the RPM's go up sometimes past 6 and the transmission start burning.

My car had a KSDS knock sensor detection system campaign 966 installed in 2022 specifically to active if having rod bearing wear. Towed my car to Hyundai under the TXXM warranty and they said my bearing clearance was ok and I need new lifters and timing chain cost for repair $2900. I have asked for the full rod bearing wear test report and they will not provide it.

While driving on the highway at normal speed, the vehicle suddenly lost power and shut off without warning. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the loss of power. I was able to safely pull over, but the engine would not restart at that time and the vehicle required towing.

"Transmission or ECU" 2. There is a lag and sometimes almost stall when accelerating from a stop. I was turning into a lane from a stop sign and the car decided to not move for 3-4 seconds after pressing accelerator.

Car is burning engine oil at the rate of one quart a week after normal city driving. Usual and frquent oil changes and almost dry when going in for every 3000 miles oil change. Took to a private (non-Hyndai) mechanic shop Christian brothers in Colorado and told that perhaps that my car had some engine damage or problems due to burn of engine oil and not leaking.

The transmission shudders and shifts in appropriately. When trying to accelerate the car will not, and leads to very dangerous situations in an intersection. It is as if the car either jumps/shudders or stalls when you hit the gas.

Hyundai purchased this car back due to a faulty transmission. It had issues shifting between the first 3 gears and stalled in between each. It had issues from the beginning when I purchased it in feb of 2016 but took until june of 2017 before the buy-back took place.

I noticed the hesitation and lag issues with the transmission as documented in similar complaints; however, when these issues where mentioned to the dealership they were dismissed as being normal for this type of transmission.

On numerous occasions (10 plus), the vehicle will not move forward while in gear and the accelerator is depressed. This usually happens at stop signs, when stopped in bumper to bumper traffic or waiting to make a left hand turn. There is no warning it just happens.

There is a problem with the 1.6l turbo dual clutch transmission. I have had problems with the 2016 tucson since day one of our 3 year lease. Originally I was going to keep the car after the lease, but that's not going to happen now. I have the same problems as many others with the hesitation from a stop or when slowing down at a turn - no power.

The few months old vehicle would get into a degraded mode and severely hesitate when accelerating from a stop. Oil consumption is excessive it has caused the engine to have a knocking noise even though routine oil changes have been up to date. Yes available for inspection. This may cause the engine to seize at any given point while in motion.

Vehicle transmission prolongs shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, and from 2nd to 3rd gear. Vehicle only has 55000 miles on it and we are second owners of the vehicle. This has been on ongoing issue with the vehicle that we attributed to design but a month ago, the check engine light came on.

The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V543000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and would be towed to a dealer for further assistance. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 75,858.

Incident becomes unsafe in traffic, etc. Reported to Dealer (Horne Hyundai, Mesa, AZ, 85120) and took car in for troubleshooting, diagnostics, or repair(s); twice, 1 st on Jan. 19, 2022, Dealer duplicated the same problem; Dealer technician performed 7 Type Judder Test, Vehicle Failed. Performed Transmission (TCU) update, Vehicle Passed, performed test drive, vehicle passed. Dealer acknowledged the same issue with vehicle; however reported to customer that it passed the Judder Test. Vehicle released to customer, no further testing or logic improvement. Customer drove vehicle home and incident occured again, less than 24 hrs from Dealer troubleshooting the incident. Customer returned vehicle to Dealer on Jan. 31, 2022; with the same issue; vibrating, hesitating, when stopping, and accelerating at stop lights, etc. Safety Issue in traffic. Dealer acknowledged the same issue again. Dealer technician again performed 7 Type Judder test. Judder detected. Performed Dual Clutch Transmission Detection and TCU Software updates, proceeded to test for Judder, Vehicle Passed. Returned vehicle to customer. Customer conferred with Dealer Service Manager about the vehicle issues, and was unable to resolve any further testing or next logical repair issues. Dealer suggested the customer contact the Manufacturer for further issues; unable to satisfy customer complaints of this issue and documented issues with previous recall of 41,000 Hyundai Tucson DCT issues and problems. Dealer could not reconcile with customer on why this VIN number was not included in the recall #149 for Hyundai Tucson vehicles; suggesting we report to NHTSA for the safety issue. A warning light indicating that a brake light is out has been active for over 4 years. The bulbs have been replaced and checked and the brake light outage persists. This is an electrical issue and poses a serious safety hazard.

While at an intersection waiting to turn left, I proceeded to accelerate (car was in sport mode) into the left turn to move through the intersection on a green light before on-coming traffic approached. I have a 2016 hyundai tucson turbo. When I first got it I thought the gas pedal was sticking but come to find out it was a transmission problem. The transmission has been "updated " twice but the car continues to choke when you step on the gas and then lurch forward.

Dangerous transmission. Whilie the car was in motion going down an on-ramp to get onto the interstate I proceeded to merge into traffic only to find out that I did not have any power. The car was still on but there was not any acceleration, I kept pressing and pressing and nothing.

Since purchasing the vehicle in november 2015, the vehicle has had difficulty shifting at lower speeds and accelerating at higher speeds. Initially, the dealership told me I just needed to get used to driving a turbo. I have had all three updates done to the dual-clutch transmission.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 hyundai tucson. On several occasions, while driving, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure; however, the contact was informed that there was a transmission control module software update that may remedy the issue.

Issue with the dct transmission on the 2016 hyundai tucson sport. After the first update the issue seemed to happen less often which was completed back in september. New update in january has made the issue more prevalent again though not as bad as when originally bought.

Transmission shudders and sometimes fails to engage when stopping and accelerating. On highway when moving to pass the RPM's went to redline and vehicle did not want to move forward. Overheating warnings in city traffic.

To whom it may concern: update 1/4/2017: unfortunately, the issues that I have had with my vehicle have still not been corrected. As of today, the hyundai tucson that I signed for still has some type of dysfunctional dual clutch/transmission.

I have a 2016 tuscon turbo limited which I purchased in august of 2015. I have had these issues since I owned the vehicle. The SUV dual transmission does not go in gear when you do a rolling stop (under 4-0 mpr) or full stop.
