POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, through May 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from from the shift lever pin.

Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, repair the connection between the shift cable and shift lever, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 123.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact called to report a technical issue with a Hyundai Technical Service Bulletin and the software that the manufacturer was reprograming for the Hyundai transmissions; TSB Number: 13-AT017. The contact, a certified mechanic, purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata from a customer due to the transmission failure. The contact attempted to order a new transmission from the manufacturer, but no transmission was available. The contact ordered a compatible transmission from Kia. The contact successfully installed the transmission. The installation instructions which stated that the motor control unit and transmission control unit software needed to be reprogramed. The contact was able to successfully road test the vehicle and then had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The contact stated that after the software was reprogramed, while attempting to road test the vehicle, immediately there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact checked online and determined that the TSB issued by Hyundai for the software reprograming outlined temperature values that were not the values show on the testing equipment. The contact called the dealer and was informed that using the Kia transmission in a Hyundai vehicle, there was no assistance to be offered. The contact diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the Hyundai software was incorrect and wanted to notify the NHTSA of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the issue. The failure mileage was not provided.

So my car started to stall when I started it an when I started goin down the road like it wanted to die. Then I started to smell gas very strong so had a code tester put to my car an i have 6 permanent codes. An not only that im smelling oil strong an noticing big oil spots under my car. So I look under the hood an behind the turbo I see oil behind an underneath the turbo. I definitely didnt feel safe driving but now its not even drivable. I purchased it couple months ago from an individual an i cant belive the amount of problems this car has. Im a single mom an trying to support my family an its hard to now with a non running car. I've put quite a few parts hoping it would fix some of the problems an nothing has. I absolutely love the car an very beautiful but unfortunately to many problems with it. Eninge, gas leaks, timing

The contact owns 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the gear indicator on instrument panel independently shifted. Despite the failure, the contact stated that the transmission continued to operate normally. The contact stated that several days later while at a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal and the engine revved to a high RPM. The contact called and informed the dealer of the failure. The contact was made aware that the failure was a common failure for the make and model of the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V434000 (Power Train); which the contact linked to the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

1. I purchased this vehicle in 2016 and I have had my rear brake lights repaired several times because the rear tail lights continue to go out, This happens regularly. There is no warning lights on the dash to indicate an issue. The only way i learned that my brake lights don't work properly is another motorist driving behind me and almost rear ending me. I have had the rear brake lights repaired by the dealership before. My brakes always smell like burning rubber after driving having me to believe that the lubricant for the brake pads aren't working. 2.The dashboard lights also periodically blinks out without warning. After a few moments it will illuminate again. 3. My seatbelts sometimes doesn't tighten up. I have to pull them several times for them to catch and return after the seatbelt isn't in use.

I had an issue on my car where engine oil level is getting low day by day, then I have visited service center to solve they have said to change spark plug, pcv value and also done fuel induction service , said me to come after 1000 miles then after I had a another problem where my car RPM is increasing and speed is getting low. I have visited the service center again saying catalytic converter issue and asked me to pay 3000$ to do repair before that I have paid 700$ but mentioning you one thing till now I have spend 2000$ for the same issue what was happen. Today as now my car is issue to move in toll road it is very hard to move. And also Hyundai is denying my request and saying me I am out of warranty. My car has 94000 miles as for today. Please help me out from this I am struggling with the issue.

When driving, an acceleration would sometime cause the car's RPMs would drop to zero with the throttle of the vehicle responding poorly. A lose of power occurs and the takes about 15 seconds to feel some power return to the throttle. The feeling of no throttle occurs which is very scary when your reason for accelerating is to pass a vehicle but the sudden lose of power makes it difficult to accelerate properly to pass. The RPMs remains none responsive. With the loss of power, the traction control light came on. When the vehicle is turn off and turned back on, the car's issue disappears. But the problem randomly occurs again.

We were part of the Hyundai Theta claim group. Our car did stop in traffic, luckily my husband was alone, and no one was hurt. It was towed to the dealer. This was October2023. Dealer gave a list of fixes & stated it had nothing to do with theta. We had all recommended maintenance done; as we always do. Roughly 2 months later, Dec., with a full car, it did it again, at a stoplight. We are lucky to be alive. We had it towed to our mechanic. I contacted the Theta claims line. Our mechanic stated oil was still in the filter, but the pistons had blown clear through the engine, which he still has. Hyundai contacted him. He sent pictures. Hyundai denied my claim for timely filing. I have called weekly, followed every instruction. Now they want me to mail a letter. I am a disabled veteran. Look how many recalls they have. They don't mind recalling. They will just deny people. Please help.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 80 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power with the accelerator pedal being depressed. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated to 30 MPH. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a greasy taillight bulb, and then later diagnosed with starter failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that four years earlier the engine was replaced due to metal shavings being found in the engine. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

My 2013 Hyundai Sonata lost acceleration power while on the road requiring an emergency departure from the road and it fails to acceleration beyond. Placed vehicle in park and attempted to proceed home but was only able to drive 5 to 10 mph max creating a dangerous situation for my fellow commuters and myselt. After about a few block I let the vehicle cool down and attempted to proceed home. The car would only go up to 5 mph requiring me to avoid rear end collisions. Ultimately, requiring a tow vehicle to bring it home. Our neighbor indicated it is the MAP sensor which was changes with no improvement to the car's acceleration issues. Checked all the fluids and assured they were correct. This vehicle has place me and others in a dangerous and potentially fatal situations.

The main power relay for the hybrid battery shorted out causing the safety plug to also short out. I was driving down the road in a rural location and an error message came up on the screen saying hybrid system error, pull over immediately, and the car would not restart after I pulled over. The car was towed to the dealer and the dealer said that the power relay and the safety plug were shorted out. The main issue that I have is that the hybrid system warning light has come on multiple times and the car had to be towed to the dealership. They always said it was a software problem. The hybrid system warning pull over light first occurred 5 or 6 years ago.

Car has been knocking for a couple of months now, check engine started flashing and it lost acceleration. Towed to shop and code for knock sensor was reading bad. Shop replaced knock sensor, I picked car up and drove away and it happened again. Engine light flashing and lost acceleration, took back to shop and the next day which would be today they said take to the dealer cause it's still reading for knock sensor. My 2013 hyundai sonata 2.0 is now at the dealership in line with the rest of the seized engines. So I have spent $800 ($613 for shop and $200 rental car) and my car is still not drivable. Now I'm back in a rental at$300 a week until hyundai diagnose, test, and approve the process of fixing the issue with my 2013 hyundai sonata 2.0, it has a life time warranty! This will be the second 2013 hyundai sonata I have owned with the engine seizing up! Back in Nov. 2021 I went thru this very same thing!

Was losing power while driving, oil consumption issues (had to add oil every 1000 miles). Engine started knocking and went into limp mode, had it towed to dealership where they said they fixed it ($1100). Less then a week later while driving on the highway lost lower, went into limp mode (89 mph to 15 mph in seconds) and was almost hit by a semi truck. Car has been sitting at the dealership since May 2022, they said I need a new engine but Hyundai declined.

2013 sonata. Constant oil consumption. Had replaced the oil pan and piston, oil caps, pvc valve. Car stalled twice and kept getting check engine lights popping up. Turns out the engine is defective and needs to be replaced. The car is starting at my mechanic right now and trying to figure out how to get it to Hyundai dealer so the engine can be replaced. the car is unsafe to drive right now. my son has the car.

We were travelling from Minnesota to Arkansas to see our family for thanks giving on 11/24/2022. Car engine starts blinking and engine started to make rattling noise. Took exit and pull over our car in one of the gas station. It was closed, this was our first road trip and first time in Iowa. Called insurance and towed our car to O'reaily auto part. They found out the error code p1326 which is related to engine issue. Looked for nearby Hyundai dealership and booked hotel near them. We went to Hyundai dealer at 7:00am on Friday 11/25/2022. We told them what happened. They told us they will check in our car. We waited from 7am to 1:30pm our car was still outside. At 2pm service manager came and said they cant check our car. We booked rental car ourselves and decided to come back home. We forgot our apartment key went back to get it and they had already started to diagnose our car thinking we are gone. Service guy told me that's engine failure every Hyundai is facing now. My car have 61k miles on it and I bought it in 2020 from Hyundai dealership. I still have 9k loan to pay this car and i cannot afford new car or new engine. I do not have car now and they are saying it can take months to repair my car if it gets approved for engine replacement. Hyundai is playing with my life and put me in depression. I have no option other than to cry. I am feeling so helpless now. Nothing and nobody seems helpful. I try my best to do anything i can and i am just waiting for coming Monday for Hyundai to make excuse to not fix my car. Hyundai is playing with lots of people life. This might be small for them but not for a working people like us. My life is messed up because of them. I cannot sleep at night and I have been calling everywhere if I can get help.

While driving car started beeping and making noises - check engine light, brake light, lcd displayed brake warning and flashed "hybrid system warning! safely stop and do not drive". Brake pedal then went to floor, and engine power reduced. Re-starting the car only cleared the problem for a minute before the warning message re-occurs. My car has been having issues for the last 3 years and dealership replaced the water pump 2 years ago. Went back to the dealership for engine issues like hesitation and stalling several times and they said they can’t find an issue, they adjust the brake light switch one time as they said they had the code for it, but the car still has the hesitation and stalling issue which they wanted to charge me again for a diagnosis. I looked up online and there are actually recalls for the engine connecting Rod and probably these recalls were cleared by the dealership from my previous visits but I can assure that the engine was not replaced nor the fuel system was not inspected at that time.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that upon placing the vehicle into the (R) reverse position; the vehicle independently accelerated backward into her neighbor's driveway and hit two parked vehicles. The vehicle came to a stop when it crashed into the second vehicle and that second parked vehicle was deemed destroyed. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. No injuries were reported and a police report was filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle back across the street and parked the vehicle on the road. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed her that since her vehicle was involved in an assurance claim, they could not render any assistance. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed her that an investigation could not be performed unless she signed a waiver. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the contact. The failure mileage was 76,876.

Ref: NHTA Recall Number: 20V-746 Hyundai REcall Number:198 (2nd recall fix ) After the above recall fix we had informed the Hyundai about engine heating up, we were told this is false alarm and car has monitoring system recall issue, Recall would would be mailed. I have all the dealer bill to prove the engine was heating up, they replaced certain part at our expense ( bill attached ) After above recall Fix by Hyundai Dealer in San Leandro, CA. we had engine overheating and car started engine started vibrating & I could see smoke from the exhaust. it ceased in the middle of the highway. Please note: Our Car has been services by Hyundai dealer. Note: if you look at the second safety recall notice, It does state in safety notice about engine compartments fire while driving for many reason and depending on the severity of the fire. the identification of the cause can be untraceable.. Above incidence happened just after your dealer did 2nd recall fix. IMO - It proves that recall fix was faulty and overheating engine cause the engine blew-up. Car has been with the dealership repair for 3rd recall. since a month Hyundai dealer asking us $9K to fix the car. I have reported the incidence to Hyundai Corporate under the case # 18811202. They are not responding. Dealer did contact Hyundai Corporate to get the engine change request, either the request if denied or gone unanswered.

I towed the car to service department of Hyundai dealer in Lindon, Utah, who diagnosed a seized engine and is now assessing the seized engine for warranty coverage under the premature bearing wear recall.

Check engine light began flashing and my 2013 Hyundai Sonata went into "limp" mode whiIe my wife was driving on the interstate. In "limp" mode it made it difficult and dangerous for her to exit the highway nearly being involved in a crash. She then "Limped" her way home. I checked the code with a diagnostic tool and a P1326 Knock Sensor Detection System code was returned. We took the vehicle to our local Hyundai dealer who reports the engine needs replaced which is part of Hyundai's recall/ campaign 17V226000. After the dealer trying on our behalf for several weeks to have the manufacturer replace the engine, the manufacturer now refuses to replace it. This is the second Hyundai I've had the engine fail on. The first one in a 2014 Sante Fe, the motor completely locked up. So what am I to do drive this one till the motor locks up on it? I dont think so!!! HELP

1. Car was parked at a rest stop, on a hot day, and idling in "PARK" with air conditioner on. One passenger was in the car in the front passenger seat. No one was in the drivers seat. The driver of the car was about 20 feet away and making a phone call to make hotel reservations. After about 10 minutes, the car suddenly started moving in reverse, while the passenger was sitting in the passenger seat. The passenger was alarmed by this movement and tried to get out of the car on the passenger side and opened the car door. The passenger then fell to the ground and avoided the door opening, but the front wheel of the car ran over her lower right arm , breaking the large bone in the arm and causing multiple lacerations. The car proceeded in reverse, finally coming to a stop against a small hill about 100 feet away. The passenger was rushed to a hospital and received emergency care.

AFTERWARDS EVERY TIME CAR CHANGED THE GEAR IT WAS JERKING, SHAKING, BEHAVING IN UNEXPECTED MANNER THAT FURTHER DRIVING WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS ABLE TO REACH MY HOME BUT I AM VERY SCARED TO DRIVE THAT CAR AGAIN. I READ THE CODE THAT CAME UP ON DASHBOARD P0711, TURNS OUT TRANSMISSION OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND HARNESS MALFUNCTIONED AND THAT LED TO VIOLENT AND ROUGH SHIFTING. CALLED DEALER, THEY WANT $700 FOR A REPAIR AND MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. CHECKED INTERNET AND IT'S FULL OF STORIES HOW THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI CARS. IT TURNS HYUNDAI MODIFIED THE PART SINCE THEN AND NEVER RECALLED IT, THEY HAVE TSB 14-AT-010. HOW COME MANUFACTURER PUT FAULTY PART THAT COMPROMISES SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND THEY WANT HUGE CHUNK OF MONEY TO FIX IT? WHY DIDN'T THEY RECALL IT? DEFINITELY GOING TO COURT WITH THIS.

FOUND OUT THAT THE THE HYDRAULIC POWER UNIT IS AT FAULT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY OVER 2000 OUT OF POCKET. COMPLAINED TO HYUNDAI COSTUMER SERVICE AND ALSO TO THE BBB AND THEY ALL TOLD ME TO FILE A REPORT WITH YOU. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE SONATA HYBRID SINCE 2019. MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA ISSUES: 1. MY HORN & LEFT SIDE OF MY STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS DOESN'T WORK. I WAS TOLD IT COULD BE RELATED TO FUSES OR CLOCKSPRING REPLACEMENT. TRIP A/B AND OTHER BUTTONS DOESN'T WORK , I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER A YEAR WITHOUT A HORN BECAUSE THIS ISN'T A RECALL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. 2. MY GEARS ARE START TO SLIP IN THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS TOLD IT COULD BE TWO THINGS IT'S EITHER THE TRANSMISSION OR SPEED QUALITY CENSOR. THESE CARS WERE MADE EITHER VERY FAST OR VERY POORLY OR BOTH AND THIS IS ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE. 3. ELECTRICAL ISSUES. I HAVE TO MANUALLY ADJUST BY BACK LIGHT/BREAK LIGHTS DAILY BECAUSE THEY NEVER STAY IN PLACE. THE WHOLE WIRING FOR THIS VEHICLE IS HORRIBLE. SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTS TO SLOW DOWN. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE MY RADIO IS ON BUT DOESN'T LIGHT UP. LIGHT BULBS ARE MELTING INTO LIGHT SOCKETS. ELECTRICAL ISSUES THAT ARE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MANY WITH THESE MODEL CARS. EITHERWAY NONE OF THESE ISSUES WERE A PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER HYUNDAI PERFORMED ALL OF THE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THEY CHARGE $200 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC THAT I'M NOT WILLING TO PAY , THESES ISSUES CAME FROM THE MAKERS OF THIS VEHICLE, THESE SHOULD ALSO BE ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST. I'M SURE IF YOU LOOK AROUND ONLINE THERE'S OTHERS WHO'S DEALING WITH THESE ISSUE FROM 2013 - 2021 TODAY. I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR THAT I PURCHASED A VEHICLE AND HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR ALL OF THESE REPAIRS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED FROM THE BEGINNING. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH MY 2013 SONATA. FIRST THE RADIO STOPPED WORKING SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE. DEALER REPLACED, NO ISSUES. HAPPENED A SECOND TIME, REPLACED AGAIN. MY HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 OR 4 TIMES EACH AND TAIL LIGHTS TWICE. BIGGEST ISSUE HAS BEEN THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE - IT DOES NOT LOCK USING THE FOB OR THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BUTTON. DEALER AT FIRST TRIED TO TELL ME I WAS NUTS, IN A VERY CONDESCENDING MANNER, AND THEN HE EXPERIENCED IT. THE TRANSPONDER IN THE DOOR LOCK HAS BEEN REPLACED 5 TIMES. THE LAST TIME, THEY HAD TO CALL JAPAN HYUNDAI AND TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUE. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR A WEEK BEFORE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ACTUATOR WAS SHORTING OUT THE LOCK TRANSPONDER, SO THEY REPLACED THAT AND IT WORKED THE LONGEST IT EVER HAS, PROBABLY ABOUT 6 MONTHS. NOW HOWEVER THE SAME LOCK DOES NOT LOCK USING THE FOB OR HANDLE LOCK AND IT HAS BEEN JOINED INTERMITTENTLY BY THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. I LOCK THE CAR USING THE FOB/EXTERIOR LOCK BUTTON/INTERIOR LOCK BUTTON, AND THEN HAVE TO OPEN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND MANUALLY LOCK IT. I ALSO CHECK THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT LOCKS AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. THE THOUGHT OF HAVING TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER WITH THIS MAKES MY STOMACH CHURN. NOW MY CAR HAS STARTED TO HAVE A PERSISTENT METALLIC TICKING/TAPPING NOISE THAT GETS WORSE WHEN I IDLE. THEN IT IS MORE OF A KNOCK. I HAVE RECEIVED WARRANTY EXTENSION INFORMATION AND ALSO THE CLASS ACTION NOTICE RELATED TO SUDDEN ENGINE SEIZURE AND I AM AFRAID THAT IS WHAT IS NEXT BECAUSE ALL THE NOTICES AND COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ SAY IT STARTS WITH ENGINE KNOCK AND THEN THE ENGINE SEIZES. THE CAR HESITATED WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS TO PASS ANOTHER CAR, OR IF I SLOWED DOWN IN TRAFFIC, IT STRUGGLED TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 20 - 40MPH. WHEN I REACHED MY EXIT, AND CAME TO A STOP LIGHT, THE GAS PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR JUST SO I COULD GET UP ENOUGH SPEED TO GO ACROSS THE LIGHT, AS WELL AS ACCELERATE SO THE CAR IN BACK ON ME COULD GO AS WELL. THE ENGINE WOULD HESITATE, AND WHEN IT DID FINALLY REACH THE RIGHT SPEED IT WAS STILL NOT A SMOOTH RIDE. WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION, I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND TURNED IT BACK ON ABOUT 2 HRS LATER. THE CAR STARTED (WITH A LITTLE HESITATION IN THE ENGINE), ALTHOUGH IT STILL STRUGGLED TO ACCELERATE PAST 20MPH. IT WAS ALSO HESITATING, AND FELT AS THOUGH IT WOULD STALL. I DROVE THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC, ABOUT A 15 MINUTE TRIP ON LOCAL ROADS. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF UPHILL BATTLES, WHERE I COULD BARELY GET THE CAR UP THE HILL. MY MECHANIC CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY CODES FROM THE COMPUTER, AND THE CODE CAME BACK AS 'TURBO UNDER-BOOST'. THE TURBO CHARGE IS DEAD. I HAVE A TURBO CHARGED ENGINE. I WAS REMOVED FROM THE FREEWAY AND I HAD AAA TOW MY CAR TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER IN GLENDORA CA. THEY CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY AND SAID THEY RAN A FULL TEST ON THE CAR AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. HOWEVER THEY DID FIX THE RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THE ROLLAWAY RISK AND SHIFT CABLE TO THE TRANSMISSION. I ASKED THEM DO YOU THINK THIS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. THE DEALER INDICATED NO THAT MAYBE I WAS DRIVING FAST AND THE ABS TOOK OVER. I TOLD HIM THAT I HAD MORE THAN 8 FEET BETWEEN THE BIG RIG AND MYSELF WHEN I CAME TO A FULL STOP AND THAT I WAS NOT GOING MORE THAN 15-20 MILES SINCE TRAFFIC WAS SLOW. ON AUGUST 8, 2014 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:00PM, MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A FLAT GRAVEL DRIVEWAY. FRONT TIRES WERE STILL TURNED RIGHT FROM INITIAL PARKING OF CAR. I GOT IN THE CAR AND STARTED IT WHEN I REALIZED I HAD LEFT SOMETHING IN THE HOUSE AND EXITED THE CAR WHILE IT WAS RUNNING AND IN PARK. WITHIN 2 MINUTES, WHILE I WAS EXITING THE HOUSE, I HEARD A THUD AND SAW THE CAR BACKED UP AGAINST A PINE TREE ON THE PROPERTY. THE CAR HAD TRAVELED IN A U PATTERN APPROXIMATELY 100 BEFORE HITTING THE TREE. ENTERING THE CAR TO TURN IT OFF, I SEE THAT SHIFTER IS IN PARK; I TURNED OFF THE CAR SO THAT I COULD ASSESS THE DAMAGE OF THE CAR AND SEE IF I COULD DRIVE IT FROM WHERE IT HAD STOPPED. I STARTED THE CAR; DROVE FORWARD ABOUT 20, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LOOKED AT THE DAMAGE TO THE REAR QUARTER PANEL OF THE CAR. THE LEFT MUFFLER IS PUSHED IN, THE BUMPER CRACKED, THE TAIL LIGHT (STILL OPERATIONAL) CRACKED. REAR QUARTER PANEL SEEMS TO HAVE BUCKLED, I AM UNABLE TO DETERMINE ANY DAMAGE TO THE UNDER-CARRIAGE. THE TRUNK STILL OPENS AND CLOSES WITHOUT PROBLEM, BUT THERE IS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE REAR DRIVER??S SIDE OF THE CAR. THE CAR IS DRIVABLE; BUT AM FEARFUL THE CAR IS A DANGER TO ME, MY FAMILY AND ANYONE WHO COULD BE NEAR THE CAR. A CALL WAS PLACED TO HYUNDAI AND A COMPLAINT FILED (1-800-633-5151). I HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE IS A RECALL NOTICE FOR HYUNDAI SONATAS REGARDING SHIFT CABLES DISENGAGING AND I AM AWAITING THE PAPERWORK PACKET FROM HYUNDAI TO COMPLETE MY COMPLAINT IN WRITING SO THAT I CAN SEE IF THIS MAKE/MODEL IS PART OF THE RECALL. *TR

I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE WITH MY PUSH BUTTON START, WITHOUT PUTTING THE SHIFTER INTO THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE ALLOWED ME TO EXIT AND THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. I TRIED TO RE-ENTER THE VEHICLE TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE AND WAS KNOCKED ONTO THE PAVEMENT BY THE DRIVER DOOR. TOOK IN TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD AFTER 4 DAYS IN SHOP THAT PROBLEM WAS FAMILIAR TO THE DEALER AND AN ENGINEER WAS BEING CALLED IN TO FIGURE OUT THE SOLUTION AS NO CODES WERE STORED IN COMPUTER.I LEFT THE DEALER AFTER BEING TOLD CAR IS WITHIN HYUNDAI SPECS BUT WAS RUNNING STRANGE. THE DEALER SEEMS TO BE AVOIDING DOING ANYTHING TO ADMIT THERE IS A ISSUE AND REFUSED TO ALLOW A SERVICE TECH TO RIDE ALONG WITH ME TO EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO REFUSED TO LET MY SALESMAN GO IN A NEWER MODEL WITH ME TO SEE IF ANY OTHER VEHICLES HAD SAME ISSUES.I WROTE TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE AND WAS GIVEN A LIST OF OTHER DEALERS TO GO TO.AS THE PROBLEM HAS BEGUN TO GET WORSE THE IDLE WILL NOW REV AND THEN DECELERATE THE VEHICLE WHEN COASTING AND I CAN IMAGINE WHAT THIS BRAKING ACTION WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO DO AS THE WEATHER BECOMES WORSE AND SNOW APPEARS.
