2013 Hyundai Sonata Airbags Problems

My car has a severely cracked dashboard which could cause reduced structural integrity and an increased risk of debris and shrapnel being deployed in the event of an accident. Cracks may expose sharp edges or materials under the dashboard which could harm occupants during a collision, especially in areas where passengers may come into contact with the dashboard. A cracked dashboard could also cause a compromised electrical system dashboards house numerous electrical systems, sensors, and controls cracks could indicate underlying damage to these components. In a collision, these systems may fail or behave unpredictably which could further reduce safety features. Cracked dashboards present a significant risk during a collision and should be addressed by the manufacturer promptly to ensure its customer safety.

The airbag indicator light for the driver came on after I got into the car. The light being on means the airbag protection system for the driver is off. This occurred at about 137,000 miles. I called my closest Hyundai dealership, Eckert Hyundai, within a month to report the problem and I was told by the dealership that there was no recall on the vehicle regarding the issue I was reporting. I have been driving a vehicle that will not protect me in any type of collision.

The Air bag light came on on the dashboard of my 2013 Hyundai and wouldn’t go off. When I took it to the local Hyundai dealership, they diagnosed the problem as the airbag clock spring. I asked if there was a recall for the clock spring, and was told no. They install a new OM Clock to fix the problem, and it cost me $805.77. When I returned home, I did my own research and found there was a recall for the Clock Spring in 2011 - 2013 Hyundai Sonatas, but only for certain VIN Numbers. I then contacted the Service manager who confirmed that the recall is only for certain VIN numbers. Since Hyundai know this is a problem, why not cover the repairs for all Sonatas with the problem. It’s unfair for they to cherry pick certain VIN numbers for repair and deny others with the same problem.

The airbag warning light on the dash is illuminated. Diagnostic code B1481 Driver airbag resistance too high.

Srs light on. Problem code indicates high resistance on driver's side air bag. Dealer said it was the airbag control module, but refused to give me the actual estimate or anything in writing other than problem description. There was a recall for other 2013 sonata airbag control modules, mine was not included apparently, but it has the same issue as the recalled ones. Dealer wants $3000 to replace the module.

The airbag clock spring, covered under Hyundai’s TXXA extended warranty, was not inspected, despite the airbag light being illuminated, potentially affecting airbag deployment in a crash. Hyundai’s failure to inspect recall-related issues before denying repairs could impact other affected vehicles on the road. I request that the NHTSA: Ensure Hyundai properly inspects recall-related components before denying repairs. Investigate whether Hyundai is improperly denying warranty and recall-related repairs, even in cases where similar vehicles have received replacements. Determine if the unresolved fuel pipe recall and airbag clock spring defect pose broader safety risks. This issue has been reported to Hyundai corporate, but no proper inspection has been performed. The dashboard is cracking I have been online and I've seen other Hyundai owners experiencing the same thing. Multiple concerns 1. cracks in the dashboard effecting defroster for windshield and not being to see already having issues 2. airbags no deploying correctly for driver or passenger in the front seats. 3. I've owned several cars, including two (2) KIA's and NEVER had this happen (1989 Ford, Festiva aka KIA in other parts of the world, and a 2000 Kia Sephia, both vehicles had over 200k in mileage and dashboard NEVER cracked the split like this.

The contact was transported to an area hospital, where he received emergency surgery to repair three fractured vertebrates in his neck as well as contusions to his face, which required an extensive hospital stay. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the vehicle was inspected; however, it was determined that no malfunction had occurred. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Vehicle was left in care of dealership service department after critical failure of engine. Determined that recall 162 was responsible and Hyundai would afford the repair. Vehicle at dealership for 5 months until repair could be scheduled. Repair complete, dealership advised us that the airbag light was illuminated. Technician performed "courtesy" diagnostic to read codes. Codes B1329 and B1331; front impact sensor and passenger communication error. Neither code is historic for the vehicle and only displayed after service from dealership.

I have reported several times to hyundai that the dashboard has several cracks on the area of the airbag on the passenger side and driver side. I was instructed to take it to dealer which I did and I was informed that it is considered a cosmetic issue. I do not have a custom made dashboard and my concern is that those cracks will be continue to get bigger to the point it will cause the airbag to deploy at any time.

Very concerned about extensive "cracking" on dashboard on and around passenger side airbag designation. Could this affect deployment of the airbag?

My boyfriend was driving on highway and airbags deployed with no accident, worried about his safety he had to drive home with the airbags deployed on seats and driver side over the window air bag busted all the way into back seat over window. He is hurt. Called Hyundai 6/8 still no one assigned to my case. police was called report#21199526. They changed my engine maybe 6 months ago; my engine blew smelling smoke while driving and car just cut off, they replaced engine free of charge and my car has been falling apart since and yes my airbag light been on since they change motor and told me it will go away but it never went off. Per my research there was a recall for airbags back in 2012. I bought the car used from a dealership in 2015

HYUNDAI SHOULD REPLACE THE DASHBOARD, OBVIOUSLY MADE OF FAULTY MATERIAL. OUR REP SAID IT WOULD COST US $1,000.00. I'M AFRAID THAT AIRBAGS WILL CRACK IT COMPLETELY IN HALF AND THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT BE DRIVABLE.

IT APPEARS THAT SOME WIRING RUNNING ON THE TOP MIDDLE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, DIRECTLY UNDER THE AIRBAG, IS CROWDED OR JUST MALFUNCTIONING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SET OR ENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL.

MY CAR WAS TOTALED DUE TO THE DAMAGE IT HAD SUSTAINED, MY AXLES WERE BROKEN ON MY CAR AND THE OTHER INDIVIDUAL CAR AXLE APPEARED TO BE BROKEN AS WELL. THE INDIVIDUAL THAT HIT ME HIS AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED DUE TO THE DAMAGE AND MY AIRBAGS HAD NOT DEPLOYED, MY VEHICLE SUSTAINED MORE VISIBLE DAMAGE MORE SO THEN THE OTHER VEHICLE,

PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, I HAD NOT PUT THE CAR INTO 'PARK" YET AND IT ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CURB AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ENGINE RACED. A WITNESS SAW IT/HEARD IT HAPPEN AND STAYED UNTIL POLICE ARRIVED. SHE DID PROVIDE HER PHONE NUMBER FOR VERIFICATION. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED $8300. DAMAGE. THE REPAIR SHOP WOULD HAVE TOTALED THE CAR IF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED BUT THEY DID NOT. ATTACHED ARE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE AND THE POLICE REPORT. THIS IS THE FOURTH HYUNDAI CAR WE HAVE PURCHASED AND NOT QUESTION THE SAFETY OF THEIR VEHICLES.

WAS RECENTLY IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON 7/15/15 DRIVING MY HYUNDAI. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AT A COMPLETE STOP IN THE EXIT LANE. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS GOING FREEWAY SPEED (60/65) AND I WAS REAR ENDED, PUSHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, MY CAR SPUN AND I WAS HIT AGAIN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THROUGH ALL THIS, NONE OF MY AIRBAGS WENT OFF. THE TRUCK AGAIN HIT TO SIDE OF TRUNK AND TOP DOOR OF TRUNK WAS GONE AND BROKEN ALSO BACK GLASS(BACK OF REAR SEAT) MY QUESTION IS WHY NOT DEPLOY SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS ON FRONT AND BACK SEATS. I WAS T-BONED TONIGHT IN AN ACCIDENT~~ I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 35 AND ANOTHER CAR DROVE STRAIGHT INTO MY DRIVERS SIDE OF MY CAR GOING ABOUT 25-30~~SHE HIT HARD ENOUGH TO RUIN BOTH DOORS, "CRUMPLED" METAL, REAR FENDER, AND SCRUB TIRES~~ NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED????? NEED BETTER SAFETY THAN THIS~~~ I GOT TOSSED AROUND PRETTY GOOD INSIDE~~~~4 HRS LATER AND I AM IN SEVERE NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN!!! *JS

I WAS INVOLVED IN A T-BONE COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT RAN A REDLIGHT. WHILE I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH, THE VEHICLE I COLLIDED WITH WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35-45 MPH. MY FRONT BUMPER WAS TORN OFF IN THE COLLISION AS WELL AS BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND THE GRILL WAS DAMAGED. I WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY DESPITE THE APPARENT SEVERITY OF THE CRASH. MILEAGE AT TIME OF INCIDENT IS ESTIMATED AS THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN FOR REPAIR. *TR

I TOOK THE EXIT ON 605 NORTH AND STOP AT THE LIGHT TO TURN RIGHT BECAUSE THERE IS A NO TURN ON RED SIGN. AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I START THE VEHICLE TO TURN RIGHT THEN GOT HIT ON THE DRIVER SIDE UP TO THE FRONT END. THE OTHER VEHICLE RAN THE RED LIGHT AND HIS SPEED WAS ABOUT 45-50 MPH. MY CAR GOT HIT HARD AT THE FRONT AND TURNED 180 DEGREE, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WAS DEPLOYED. AS A SAFETY CONCERN, I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT AS I AM GONNA HAVE A BABY SOON THIS YEAR 2014. WHAT IF THAT ANOTHER ACCIDENT OCCUR AND THE BABY OR MY SPOUSE IN THE CAR WITH ME? *TR
