Component: TRAILER HITCHES

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2019-2023 Santa Fe, 2021-2023 Santa Fe HEV, 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-in HEV and Santa Cruz vehicles potentially equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment, or purchased as an accessory through a Hyundai dealership. Water accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (PCB) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire.

Risk: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Fix: Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the remedy is completed. Dealers will install a new fuse and wire extension kit as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed starting May 16, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 244. This recall is an expansion of previous recall number 22V-633.

While driving, your sunroof suddenly exploded with a loud pop, scattering glass throughout the interior and on you. This happened without any warning signs and could have caused an accident if you hadn't stayed calm and safely pulled over. The dealer is investigating, and the sunroof will likely need to be completely replaced.

Your 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe came with a factory scissor jack that collapsed three times while you were trying to change a flat tire on the side of the road, leaving your vehicle stuck on the ground. The jack's label shows it's rated for only 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs), but your vehicle weighs 1,724 kg (3,801 lbs), meaning the jack is undersized for your car. The dealership initially blamed user error and refused to replace the jack without charging you, despite the weight mismatch being a clear safety issue. Hyundai should inspect the jack design and either provide a properly-rated replacement jack or recall the undersized units.

Both horns on your vehicle have failed completely and are not working. Your dealership confirmed that both horns need replacement, but Hyundai doesn't have parts in stock and can't provide a timeline for when they'll arrive. Hyundai has acknowledged this is a known issue affecting multiple models, and without a working horn, you may have difficulty alerting other drivers to your presence on the road.

Your horn has failed repeatedly since you bought the vehicle new, and you've had to replace it multiple times already with less than 11,000 miles on the car. The horn simply stops working without any warning, leaving you unable to alert other drivers in an emergency or prevent a collision. The dealer should diagnose why the horn system keeps failing and replace or repair the underlying electrical or mechanical component causing the repeated failures.

Your gas door won't open normally and requires repeated unlocking/locking cycles and pushing to finally pop open. This left you stranded in cold weather unable to refuel, which is unsafe especially when traveling alone. The fix may involve inspecting or replacing the gas door latch mechanism and potentially adding an emergency manual release option.

Your horn stopped working and you discovered this when you tried to use it in an emergency situation. With only 20,000 miles on your 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe, this is an unexpected electrical failure. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the horn circuit, which could mean replacing the horn itself, checking the horn relay, or repairing wiring connections.

Your horn has stopped working on three separate occasions over several months, each time due to a blown fuse. The dealership has confirmed the problem but cannot explain why the fuse keeps blowing. Since you can't warn other drivers with your horn, this is a safety concern. The fix will likely involve replacing the blown fuse and diagnosing why it's failing repeatedly, which may require electrical system inspection or replacement of a faulty component.

Your horn failed to sound when you tried to alert another driver during a near head-on collision situation. The dealership found that both your high and low horns had completely failed and replaced them under warranty. This is the second horn failure in less than 2 years of ownership, and the dealership confirmed this is a known recurring issue in the 2023 Santa Fe. Repairing this will require replacing the failed horn components with new ones.

Your car's horn stopped working completely, which prevented you from warning other drivers or pedestrians of danger. The dealer confirmed the problem and you had the horn replaced in March 2025, but it failed again by December 2025. When you asked the dealer to cover the repair under warranty, they refused because your vehicle had exceeded the mileage limit for coverage. The fix will involve replacing the horn assembly or its electrical components.

While driving on the interstate at 70 mph, your vehicle's fuel injectors suddenly failed, causing you to lose engine power without warning. This is a serious situation since it happened at highway speed. The repair will likely involve diagnosing and replacing the failed fuel injectors.

Your fuel injectors are malfunctioning, causing your engine to misfire, run rough, and smell like gas. The dealer replaced one injector in early December, but the same symptoms returned and the check engine light came back on multiple times in late December and early January. The dealer says they won't replace the other faulty injectors until they completely fail, and their safety advice is for you to visually inspect your car daily before driving. Fixing this will require the dealer to replace all failing fuel injectors and diagnose why multiple injectors are failing prematurely.

Your car's electronic throttle control system isn't working properly, which means the engine might suddenly lose power, run in reduced-power mode, or stall while you're driving. Your check engine light is on and your Hyundai Bluelink app is showing fault codes P2118 and P2101, which point to a problem with the throttle actuator motor. This is a serious safety issue because losing throttle control while driving increases your crash risk. You'll need a Hyundai dealership to diagnose and repair the throttle control motor or related electronic components.

Your transmission has repeatedly triggered error code P1C2D03, which causes intermittent loss of acceleration. Even though the transmission was replaced under the previous owner and a software update was performed, you're still experiencing the same problem — most recently a dashboard warning to check transmission fluid immediately. The dealership has been unable to reproduce the error during testing and may not have checked the fluid level as the warning suggested.

Your 2023 Santa Fe suddenly overheated while driving and you noticed coolant leaking from the front, forcing you to have it towed. The dealership claimed road debris damaged the radiator but provided no evidence of impact damage—only a video of coolant leaking after a technician pushed something into the grille. Without proof of actual external damage, you're concerned this may be a defective cooling system component rather than debris-related damage. The repair will likely involve radiator replacement or repair and cooling system inspection to identify the root cause.

Your car vibrates noticeably while driving on highways, especially felt in the right rear seat. You've replaced your tires twice and discovered that the right rear rim won't balance properly even when matched with a new tire—it shows a road force imbalance of 20 lbs compared to 12 lbs on your other three rims. This imbalance causes vibration, uneven tire wear, and puts extra stress on your suspension. Hyundai has examined it multiple times but refused to replace the defective rim.
