NHTSA Campaign: 21V524000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Santa Fe and Sonata vehicles equipped with 2.5L turbocharged engines. Fuel may leak at the pipe connection between the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel rail.
Risk: A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.
Fix: Dealers will inspect and tighten, or replace the fuel pipe as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 3, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 207.
NHTSA Campaign: 21V00M000
Component: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Santa Fe, 2021 Sonata, and Elantra vehicles. During manufacturing, the windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, allowing it to detach in a crash.
Risk: A windshield that detaches from a vehicle during a crash can increase the risk of injury.
Fix: Dealers will remove and reinstall the front windshield panel, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 20, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 216.
NHTSA Campaign: 21V185000
Component: AIR BAGS: AIR BAG/RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021 Santa Fe vehicles. The Occupant Detection System (ODS) module may not deactivate the air bag upon detection of a child restraint system in the front passenger seat. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Risk: In the event of a crash, deployment of the front passenger air bag, with a child in that seat, can increase the risk of injury to the child.
Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ODS module, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied as of May 12, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 202.
NHTSA Campaign: 21V308000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021 Santa Fe vehicles equipped with 2.5-litre Turbo engines. The fuel pipe connecting the high pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail may not have been tightened properly.
Risk: An insufficiently tightened fuel pipe may leak fuel, increasing the risk of a fire.
Fix: Dealers inspected and tightened the fuel pipe connection, free of charge. The affected vehicles have been repaired and therefore no owner notification letters will be sent. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 206.
NHTSA Campaign: 22V746000
Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Santa Fe, Sonata, Veloster N, 2022 Santa Cruz, Elantra N, and Kona N vehicles. The vehicle's "fail-safe" limited-mobility drive mode may be impaired, when prompted by a transmission oil pump malfunction, which can result in a complete loss of drive power.
Risk: Loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission, as necessary. Dealers will also update the transmission control unit software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 10, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 236.
NHTSA Campaign: 23V181000
Component: TRAILER HITCHES
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2019-2023 Santa Fe, 2021-2023 Santa Fe HEV, 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-in HEV and Santa Cruz vehicles potentially equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment, or purchased as an accessory through a Hyundai dealership. Water accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (PCB) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire.
Risk: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Fix: Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the remedy is completed. Dealers will install a new fuse and wire extension kit as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed starting May 16, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 244. This recall is an expansion of previous recall number 22V-633.
NHTSA Campaign: 24V879000
Component: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Santa Fe, Santa Fe HEV, Elantra, Elantra HEV and 2022 Elantra N and Santa Fe PHEV vehicles. Due to a damaged printed circuit board, the rearview camera image may fail to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Risk: A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's visibility and increases the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 14, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 271.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 152)
Power Train →6 issues
Your 2021 Santa Fe is losing all acceleration power while driving at various speeds, forcing you to pull over with hazard lights on. When this happens, pressing the gas pedal has no effect, and the vehicle may even roll backward on hills. You have to put the car in park, turn it off, and sometimes restart it multiple times before it will move forward again. The dashboard may or may not show a warning light when this occurs, and a transmission flush at your dealer hasn't fixed the problem. This issue is becoming more frequent and requires immediate diagnosis and repair of the transmission control system or related components.

Your 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe is displaying error code P1C2D03 and entering limp mode after the dealership performed a recall repair in 2023. Your car is losing power while driving, which creates an unsafe condition. The dealership claims the transmission doesn't need replacement and won't help unless Hyundai reopens the recall. You may need to escalate this issue with Hyundai corporate or seek a second opinion from another dealership or transmission specialist.

Your transmission failed without warning while driving 60 mph on a busy highway, suddenly dropping your speed to 26 mph and creating a dangerous traffic situation. This happened even though your car was recalled and updated for Recall #236 in 2022, and now your car is showing a P1C2D03 error code. Your transmission will likely need to be replaced, which typically involves removing and rebuilding or swapping out the entire transmission assembly.

Your transmission has failed multiple times in just a few years, causing the car to jerk, hesitate, and lose power during acceleration—even after two warranty replacements. These symptoms are returning again just weeks after the most recent replacement, making it unsafe to drive, especially when merging or crossing intersections. The dealership has acknowledged this is a known design problem with no permanent fix, but Hyundai is only offering repeated transmission replacements under warranty rather than addressing the underlying defect. A permanent transmission repair or redesign will likely be needed to resolve this recurring issue.

While preparing to turn onto a two-lane road, a dashboard warning appeared saying "shifter system malfunction service immediately." Your vehicle was in Drive but suddenly wouldn't move, and you couldn't shift into any other gear. There was no warning beforehand or loss of engine power—just an instant loss of ability to shift or drive.

Your transmission is experiencing hard shifts and hesitation when changing gears, and your check engine light has come on. A diagnostic code (P1C2D03) indicates your transmission has failed. The dealer recommends replacing the entire transmission to fix the problem.

Your horn has stopped working completely. While this isn't covered under warranty, you've found online that this is a common problem with your model. A replacement horn doesn't appear to be readily available. Getting your horn working again will likely involve replacing the horn assembly or checking the electrical connections and wiring.

Your backup camera stopped working, and you took your car to the dealership for a recall repair that was supposed to fix this exact issue. However, the camera still doesn't work after the service, and the dealership marked the recall as completed in their system even though the problem persists. The dealership is refusing to address it further, and Hyundai won't authorize service at a different dealership.

Your car's horns have stopped working and needed replacement multiple times. Based on research, this appears to be a widespread issue affecting many Santa Fe vehicles rather than an isolated problem. The horn either gradually weakens or stops working entirely, requiring repeated replacements.

Electrical System →2 issues
Your rearview backup camera keeps failing intermittently, showing a blank screen instead of the camera feed when you shift into reverse—even after the dealership replaced it under recall. This creates a serious safety risk because you can't see pedestrians, children, or objects behind your vehicle when backing up. The dealership couldn't reproduce the problem during their inspection and is asking for a diagnostic fee, but you have video evidence of the malfunction occurring after the repair. Fixing this will likely require the dealership to diagnose why the replacement camera is still failing intermittently, which may involve checking electrical connections, the display unit, or replacing the camera again.

Engine →2 issues
While driving on Interstate 75 at 65 mph, your vehicle suddenly slowed to 40 mph and wouldn't accelerate even when pressing the gas pedal, accompanied by a burning smell. The Hyundai dealer inspected the vehicle and ran computer diagnostics but found no error codes, so they couldn't identify or repair the problem. You believe your car entered a limp-home/failsafe mode, which typically indicates a serious underlying issue that the computer hasn't flagged yet.

Your engine is misfiring, which means it's not firing on all cylinders smoothly. You might notice rough idle, hesitation when accelerating, loss of power, popping or backfiring sounds, and worse fuel economy. The Check Engine Light is on, and restarting the engine sometimes temporarily fixes the problem. The repair will likely involve diagnosing which cylinders are misfiring and replacing ignition coils, spark plugs, or fuel injectors.

Power Train,electrical System →1 issue
Your shift lever stopped responding, causing your car to go into auto shut-off mode and preventing it from driving when you released the brake pedal. You couldn't switch gears or drive until you turned the engine completely off and back on again. This happened multiple times, including once in heavy traffic with your children in the car, creating a serious safety risk when other vehicles nearly hit you. The dealership eventually identified the issue as a faulty transmission shift lever that will need to be replaced or repaired.

Electrical System,service Brakes,forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
While slowing down on an interstate exit, your brakes felt unresponsive with grinding noise and a twitching brake pedal, though the car did stop. After this incident, multiple warning lights appeared on your dashboard and won't turn off, along with three separate warning messages. The issue likely involves your brake system, electrical system, and forward collision avoidance system, which may need diagnostic scanning and brake component inspection.

Forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your Forward Collision Avoidance system activated the emergency brakes on its own while you were driving on the highway with no vehicles in front of or to the right of you, causing your vehicle to slow down suddenly. This unexpected braking nearly caused another vehicle to rear-end you. You weren't given any warning before the system engaged, and there was no traffic that would have triggered this safety feature.

Back Over Prevention →1 issue
Your back-up camera is showing a distorted or black screen when you put your car in reverse, even though a recall repair was already done for this issue. This makes it hard to see behind your vehicle safely. The camera display needs to be diagnosed and likely replaced to restore proper visibility.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your fuel door won't open when you try to access it. You have to lock and unlock your car repeatedly—sometimes up to 10 times—before the fuel door will finally open. This intermittent failure could eventually leave you unable to refuel your vehicle.

Electrical System, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your car's horn has failed repeatedly and needed replacement three times since you bought it, with a fourth repair currently needed. Despite visits to the dealership in December 2025 and January 2026, the horns continue to malfunction, and you've been quoted $400 for the repair. Hyundai has issued technical service bulletins for horn failures on other models, but these don't cover your Santa Fe, leaving you without warranty coverage for this safety-critical component.
