2016 Honda Pilot Other Problems

This accident happended about three months ago. While I was driving on highway, all of suddend, most the signals popped up like firework, AWD/VSV/EPS/TSA and Hill Start Asssitance and etc. My pilot just like lost power and hardly to be speeded up.

the auto idle stop stalls and does not restart when you press the accelerator. I have been caught stalled in the middle of intersections too many times to count. Well over 100.

My sunroof glass spontaneously exploded. It was not hit by an object nor were temperatures extreme. Had my inside sunroof visor not been closed, the broken glass would’ve fallen on the vehicle occupants causing injury.

When driving my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring and forgetting to turn off the auto idle my car will completely shut off and not turn on. This has happened a total of 3 times since owning my car. All three have occurred at a red light intersection.

When car stops due to Auto Idle it then stalls and gos into neutral shutting of engine completely With collision warning coming up. Then have to shut car off , put into park before it struggles to restart. I have documented on 2 other occasions with NHTSA and to be honest if I was to document this every time you would have 100’s of reports from me.

Auto idle stop malfunctions regularly without any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms before the malfunction. This causes the vehicle to restart automatically or it requires the driver to restart the vehicle manually. An error message appears on the console screen for less than one second at the time of the problem, but no warning or error messages before or after.

My car often does not start back up at stop signs/traffic lights. I feel very much in danger. It is difficult to get my car to start back up after it fails to start back up.

This like the third time this has happened where the stop-start feature on my Honda Pilot almost have gotten me into a serious accident. It has happened during stop and go on I95 when I was heading to Maine and I stopped and it literally almost shutdown after I got ready to go forward.

On multiple occasions when the auto idle engages the car stalls. The dashboard looks like the car is running by its not. In order for me to be able to drive it I have to put it in park, turn it all the way off, and then restart.

I have a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite and have been experiencing some issues with the Auto Engine Idle Shut Off for the past few years. Whenever the car is stopped either at a light or in a traffic on road, highway exit ramps, the auto engine idle feature shuts of the car upon pressing the breaks fully.

The first issue is when the car is stopped and the auto engine idle is on, when I lift the brake to press the accelerator, the car shuts off the engine completely, puts itself in Neutral or Park, and requires me to put the car in Park (if not there already) and restart (press brake and ignition button).

In the past 4 months, each time my Honda Pilot is stopped at a light or in slow traffic, the idle stop will engage and shut off the engine. In order for the engine to turn back on, we have to put our foot on the brake, place car in park, and push the start button to get it to start again. Each time we have taken it to the dealer or a car repair shop, they test the battery and it is fine.

At a stop light my auto idle-off is engaged (engine goes off), but when trying to accelerate, the engine does not restart and engine goes into neutral. I needed to turn the car completely off and then restart the car. This is extremely dangerous, as cars are expecting me to move.

While driving my 2016 exl honda pilot AWD, it began displaying multiple codes such as hill start assist, road departure, emissions system, power steering, and, tsa. I took it right away to a nearby auto zone and the code they gave me was p0304 cylinder misfire. When I took it to hendrick honda the codes were no longer flashing.

I've had multiple issues including faulty fuel injectors, faulty collision mitigation system, faulty homelink transmitter, audio bluetooth that resets on its own and now the latest one is a keyless start system problem.

Moonroof exploded while driving at highway speeds. There were no signs of wear and there were no chips. There was a loud pop and glass started falling down from the moonroof.

This vehicle is equipped with an auto engine idle feature that idles the engine when you come to a stop. Sometimes the engine idle coincides with the moment that you would accelerate to continue going forward, and the engine stalls completely. This requires the vehicle to shut down and restart.

A few weeks ago my 2016 honda pilot sunroof shattered while I was driving on an open highway and there were no other cars around. Nothing hit the sunroof, but while I was driving I heard two loud pop sounds and looked up and the sunroof had shattered. I had to have it replaced at a honda dealer, and honda refused to reimburse me for it as they did not want accept the liability of a vehicle flaw.

While backing into a parking space at an apt. Building at the slowest speed imaginable, the windshield wiper on the back window on my 2016 honda pilot came in contact with an overhang storage cabinet at the back of the parking space and the window exploded. On my backup camera, it said I still had room to go back but that is because the window protrudes more than the backup camera.

Sunroof exploded outward on the highway

Collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) computer overload in a construction zone with vehicle in motion on a highway. Cmbs computer shut down and would not reset without taking vehicle to dealer. Dealer rebooted computer for $62 and advised turning off cmbs before entering construction zones to avoid a repeat.

My wife was driving down the freeway at 70 MPH and heard a big pop (sounded like a gun shot). The weather conditions were perfect and the road itself is very smooth. So my wife pulled over and saw that her sun roof had exploded.

Sometimes the RPM drops and the vehicle has a hard shift jerking the car forward. It happens about once every other week but doesn't last long. Unfortunately, when it happens I can't take the car in because I'm at work and when I do take it in it doesn't happen.

As I was driving 65 MPH on the freeway one night the engine suddenly started revving up super high and the car began slowing down. It was quite frightening. Because it was dark, it took a minute to identify the problem- that the car slipped into neutral.

I had just pulled out of my garage when the tailgate window on my eight day old, 2016 honda pilot forcefully exploded. It blew shards of glass 15 feet behind the vehicle. The force broke the rear window wiper and bent the window wiper arm down.

We had road issues recently and the care stalled on Thanksgiving. We ended up having it towed to 2 mechanics, the final mechanic determined that this issue is a recall for other Hondas. Ours is not listed.

My name is [XXX] . I am submitting this formal complaint regarding the repeated and serious transmission failures on two 2016 Honda Pilot vehicles that I own. Both vehicles were purchased together and have developed nearly identical transmission problems, posing serious safety concerns.

The Auto Idle Stop System sometimes stalls car instead of re-starting it. It is still in gear when it stalls and can roll on its on. You expect it to start up the way it should and for you to accelerate but it stalls and rolls on its on.

A few years ago, I reported a problem with my car's auto idle stopping, causing the car to stall, and taking a few minutes to restart. Honda offered to update my software to fix this issue, which I did last March. Today, driving, the car stalled again.

This issue occurred [XXX]. The fuel door would not open when we were at the gas station to fill up. We opened the side panel inside the back of the vehicle and tried to open using the emergency lever but that did not work either.

While driving my car started doing a jerking motion as if it wanted to stall. Then all the warning lights the car could possibly have started flashing. All wheel drives engine warning came on as well as emissions systems problem warning light.

Unable to open my gas cap door either by pushing the gas opener button by driver side door or manually from the latch located in the trunk. I was running low on gas and am unable to refill the gas. Others offered to help by forcing the gas door open but said they would definitely damage the car.

When you start the car it is always in economy mode so that the engine can shut off when you are stopped. I was driving with the intention to turn left at a major intersection. I was the first car to pull into the left hand turning lane. I put my blinker on and pushed down on the brake waiting for the light to turn green so I could make the left hand turn but the car just shut down.

Hello, I have 2016 Honda Pilot Touring. The car was stalled many times since last 3 years where the car stalled out at a red light while using the auto stop-start. It would happen frequently now when I took my foot off the brake and nothing would happen when I put my foot on the gas.

When stopped at a red light the idle-stop initiates and engine shuts down. Upon release of the brake peddle the engine does not start leaving you stranded at a green light or even worse in the middle of the intersection waiting to make a left turn. I have to turn off the car completely and then try to restart it.

Having issues with the auto idle function. Car is stalling out when car Is stopped for more than two to three seconds. doesn't matter if the auto idle function is engaged or turned off.

First: the eight inch touch screen, like in many new cars is, as installed, a continuous, distracted driving hazard. For any driver to use it at all while in motion means one must glace away from the road! In this car, the combination of having to use this with no alternate controls like a volume control means trouble.

UNKNOWN - The hydraulics of the power tailgate in the 2016 Honda Pilot are defective. After opening, it randomly starts 1 long continuous beep while the power tailgate closes - and it will not stop. I have had multiple items crushed.

At high rate of speed on two lane road the hood would lift when another vehicle coming from the other direction. was driving cross country when this first happen. Call the local dealer who looked up by VIN an showed no recall.

While stopped at a busy intersection, the “auto idle” feature turned the car off. When the foot was removed from the break, the car is supposed to turn back on and go. This time the car made a sound like metal grinding on metal, then the car automatically shifted into neutral.

The A/C in my 2016 Honda Pilot is blowing hot air. On my first visit to the dealer, dye was added to detect the leak at a cost of $422. Upon returning to the dealer a second time, the dealer replaced the A/C condenser at a cost of $1,075, which did not solve the problem.

For the last few years the idle stop feature has resulted more than one dozen times of me being stuck at a stop light and not being able to get the car started. It will idle off and when I lift my foot off the break it will have trouble starting back up. If I wait a minute or so it can sometimes start back up but at least four times it has required a jump start to get it started again.

I am reporting a problem with the 2016 Honda Pilot audio system. It sounds identical to the reported problems that have lead to a recall for the 2018-2022 models. The system works fine initially, but after 30 minutes of driving, the system becomes filled with static noise.

Auto Start/Stop feature has repeatedly struggled to restart car at stop lights. Disabling this feature manually after starting the car is the only way to disable this feature. Initial failures were due to battery wear, but after replacing the battery we still have intermittent issues where the vehicle will not restart after the auto stop feature has shut off the engine.

I am reporting a problem with the 2016 Honda Pilot audio system. It sounds identical to the reported problems that have lead to a recall for the 2018-2022 models. The system works fine initially, but anywhere from 10 min - 1 hour into driving the system becomes staticky.

While traveling from northern Illinois to Sarasota, FL, vehicle transmission stopped functioning along I-75 near Tifton, GA. It had been raining the entire trip. No one was injured.

Front windshield wiper washer jet hood nozzle sprayer fell off and is lost. Called Honda dealer. They checked with Honda corporation and are advised that there are 1,100 of these on back order.

All warning lights turned on during a normal drive. The dealer said it is a harness issue and needs to replace the harness to fix the issue. Surprised that a part that does not move had to be replaced.

My 2016 Honda Pilot is displaying a "Keyless Start System Problem". There is a Service Bulletin 20-117 that extends the warranty for affected vehicles so they can be repaired under the warranty for free. The Service Bulletin states that ALL Trim levels are affected vehicles, however, my VIN #[XXX], does not come up as an affected vehicle.

While stopped at a stop light the car totally shuts off when you go to start to move again causing you to have to put the car in park. Then start the car back up a begin to drive. This has happened 8 times now.

Air conditioning compressor went on my 2016 Pilot. Upon researching, I see that Honda has issued technical service bulletin #19-091 for 2016 - 2018 Civics for condensers that caused the AC to fail. I'm not sure if this is related, but I want to put the information out there anyways as Honda has already addressed an AC issue in similarly aged vehicles.

My 2016 honda pilot has been experiencing a problem with the auto idle stop (AIS) feature. Randomly when the AIS engages the vehicle will shut off completely and switch to neutral. It displays a message to put in park and apply brake and press start.

The vehicle has a keyless remote start problem that won’t go away. The keys have new batteries. Taking it to the dealer but when researching the issue there are several people experiencing this same problem with no way to fix the issue.

When I'm pushing the start button to turn the engine, an error occurred in the dashboard 'keyless start system problem' my mileage is 37991. The dealer didn't find any issue, they run vehicle diagnostic and I change my battery of my key. Is this a safety issue?

I have taken my 2016 honda pilot 3 times to the dealership and they cant figured out why the keyless start system problem light is coming on. They replaced the started and also the battery because something in the electrical is bad.

The car is only a few years old and the AC stopped working went to the dealership to get it fixed they said the warranty doesn't cover it so I went to a mechanic to get it fixed he said he's gotten multiple civics and pilots 2016 and newer with the same problem faulty AC system

Intermittently receive dash error code "'keyless start system problem ' " it comes and goes. Also vehicle struggles to restart when the a engine idle engages at a stop light. This has created safety issues in the winter when I can't go at a green light or others aren't paying attention and my vehicle won't start.

For at least the past year and a half I keep getting an error message that says, keyless start system problem. I have replaced the batteries in my fob but it did not fix the problem. I took it to a honda dealer and they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle that would create this message.

Only had the car for 3 weeks from a dealership and while I was driving the check emission lights come on been looking at reviews and they are not good.

The car is around 58k. The keyless start system problem message is displayed. I replaced and all batteries of the fob and reset every thing to the factory setting, but problem still persists and the walk away auto lock is also no longer functioning after the keyless start system problem message was displayed.

An error stating "keyless start system problem" appeared on my dashboard. I also noted the car was accelerating roughly when it shifted into higher gears. A second error message and the engine light came on, stating "emmisions system problem" my mechanic followed the honda troubleshoot recommendation instruction sheet, and removed the diagnostic code, but two days later the errors reappeared.

The keyless start system light has been on for several months. We brought the car to the honda dealer and they replaced the key fob. The light went away for a little while, but returned.

I keep getting 'keyless start system problem' error when I push start my engine. The car still drives but I am worried it will not detect the key and stop driving one of these days without warning or engine won't start without any warning. I have changed battery for my key, it does this to both of my car keys, and it doesn't happen all the time but more than half of the time I start the engine.

The following alert shows up: keyless start system problem. It happens as soon as the vehicle is started and remains on. The dealership reset the code but it returned 1 week later and isn't going away.

The car wont start or lock. 'key fob not recognized' light comes on. Intermittent.

There is a gasoline smell inside the car and outside I dont see any leaking but the smell is making me worry

Keyless start system problem warning light is ignited on the dashboard. It started when the vehicle had about 45,000 miles on it. The walk away auto lock feature stopped working also.

I keep receiving a code that states "keyless start system problem". Honda dealership states they reset computer but problem continues to show every time I start vehicle. Apparently they either can't fix it or they don't know how to fix it.

Car intermittently fills with gasoline fumes when being fueled. Has happened many times since new; local dealer verified fumes recently, but could not duplicate or repair it.

When the rear tailgate is opened electronically, the tailgate opens completely and then immediately begins the closing process (beeps and then closes). It can be stopped manually otherwise it will finish the closing process. If you stop it manually, the electronic closing system (button on door, key fob or button by driver seat) is disabled.

Rattling at instrument panel. Frequent freezing of touch screen, especially when car is being driven on the highway.

We are experiencing a snap/clunk that can be heard and slightly felt through foot when applying or releasing the accelerator and also application of the brake. This only occurs when the vehicle is in a colder (probably less than 30 degrees fahrenheit) outside temps. Honda dealer had look at it twice and its been in the shop 3 three times so far with the fourth visit being this morning 2/10/2016.

When driving vehicle shuts off for no reason. Then I have to put my four-way on and turn my vehicle back on. It has already happened four times, and no one seems to know what the problem is or what is causing the issue.

Three times at a stop light my car goes into the engine idle stop mode and when the light turns green my car won’t get out of the mode. I have to put it into park and restart the car to go. I have almost been hit twice.

Idle stop feature caused the car to fall dead and go stuck into neutral while at a stop sign and getting ready to pull off into traffic to make a right onto the feeder of a busy freeway. I had to place the car into park then press the ignition button to turn the car back on then shift back to drive before being able to pull off.

I just purchased this vehicle this year if any components failed I do not know of it.

When at a stop at an intersection the engine auto idle/stop feature will engage and when you let off the break the engine comepletely dies and you have to put car in park and restart the car. This is extrememly dangerous when at intersections and in turning lanes.

Unless I remember to disable "Auto engine idle stop" my car will die at a light or any place I'm stopped. A bunch of random lights or warnings flash across the dashboard , brake won't push in, and I am unable to put it in neutral for my vehicle to be moved off the road or interstate.

Sun visor part number 83230-TG7-A11ZA has failed twice now (6/24/2019 and again 9/29/2021). What happens is that the tension spring internal to the sun visor fails causing the sun visor to flop down impeding the driver's vision directly forward. We had to purchase new replacement sun visors twice.

My 2016 honda Pilot Touring model won’t restart after idle stopped. I have to place car in park and restart using the start button. Issue occurs only when can idle stops.

My vehicle is equipped with with an Automatic Engine shutoff. The vehicle shuts off at traffic lights and then fails to turn back on. I have contacted Honda but only told that there is not currently a recall and it would cost 200$ for a diagnostic test to be ran and if they don’t find the problem I am still responsible for the 200$ charge.

My car shuts off and goes into Park at intersections or highway while stuck in traffic if the Auto Engine Idle is not manually disabled. It can take up to 3 minutes to restart my car.

I have a Honda Pilot 2016 with a keyless start system issue. I see a recall document Service Bulletin 20-117 dated December 9, 2020; however, when I type my VIN number for my vehicle, I do not see a recall. I have been having the Keyless start system issue for the past 3 days.

I’m having problem with the start/stop feature if my honda pilot 2016. For a couple of incidents already, when the car idle on a stop, it will not start back. It happened today 7/23/22 in Fletcher ave in Fort Lee, NJ.

The idle stop on the car is defective, if not turned off which had to be turned off everytime we start the car, The car will randomly idle stop at intersections and won't come back on, will have to forcefully turn off the car and turn it back on. Couple this happened on dangerous intersection and traffic lights. Honda has not resolution, they just say turn off idle stop everytime.

Honda has a "stop / start" feature that when stopping at a stop sign or traffic light, with brakes applied, stops the engine. Once you take foot off brakes, the engine should restart. On four occasions, the engine did not restart.

Stripping on roof comes off on its own. Most recently the stripping above the drivers side has fallen off, leaving a visible nail or screw. Happened when driving.

Keyless remote system issue, apparently this is a very common issue with these vehicles after 36,000 miles. I'm unsure if the error will cause the car to just shut off while driving in traffic or make it just not start when I try to start it. This appears to be an issue that should have been addressed via a recall if the issue is this common.

The other week the windows, including sunroof, all rolled down by themselves sometime early morning and rain got in- inorder for me to make this happen I have to sleep walk to my key fob and hit unlock twice and hold the unlock button until all windows are fully down. The bluetooth doesn't work as a true hans free. When making a call you have to place the phone to your ear wait for the other person to pick up then transfer the call otherwise you can't use bluetooth. Most names I say when trying to call someone by voice command ends up in 911.

After locking the car in a parking lot with windows up, I returned to find all windows half down and sun roof half open. Another time after locking the car I returned to find the tail gate open.
