2016 Honda Pilot Electrical Problems

We started having problems with the catalytic converter clogging so we put Heat in it and then only used 100%gas. Then we went to my daughter’s house and when we went to leave the car wouldn’t start. We could smell burning.

Auto Start/Stop not working at stop. Vehicle fails to restart when engine has turned off at intersection. On occasion, vehicle fails to start and loses total power.

Our stop/start feature consistently causes the car to stall instead of restarting the engine. This leaves us stranded in or at intersections while waiting for the car to respond to pressing the park and restart buttons. This regularly takes enough time we have narrowly avoided being hit multiple times from suddenly not being able to move.

In 2021, while driving on a highway all vehicle warning lights came on. Engine ran at high RPM and low speed. Honda said is was a software update.

In 2021, my 2016 Honda Pilot had routinely had restart issues from when going idle at stop. In some situations, it simply would not start again and had to be jumped off. I ended up getting the battery replaced multiple times, but on [XXX] I went to my vehicle to start up and it was dead yet again.

Unintended Acceleration While at a standstill , on a hill, holding a foot on the break pedal , I lifted my foot from the break pedal to drift forward down the hill, (without ever getting near the gas pedal ) The car accelerated at a very high RPM.

After 30 - 40 minutes of driving the audio is overcome by extreme static and popping and affects all componets ( radio, DVD, XM, CD, etc) would seem something is getting hot after 30 minutes so a possible fire or melting situation . My car (2016 Honda Pilot Touring) SHUTS DOWN due to the auto shut off feature at least once a month and I am very nervous to hand it over to my daughter in a next year when she is old enough to drive. I have been stalled out at intersections...it is irresponsible of Honda to not issue a recall. People are going to get into accidents if they can't start their car in the middle of intersections!

Beginning in the summer of 2020, intermittently when the auto idle was engaged the engine will not restart but will stall out and requires multiple efforts to restart the engine. It does not happen every time auto idle engages. It seems to happen more in the summer months.

The Pilot has an auto start/stop function that turns off the engine when the car is stopped/idling. When the driver releases the break pedal, the engine is supposed to turn back on. The engine would very frequently fail to turn back on after idling.

The vehicle’s Auto Stop/Start feature routinely fails to restart the engine when releasing the brake, turning the steering wheel, or selecting Park. In order to start the vehicle, it must be placed into Park, turned off, and then turned back on by holding the Start button. This has worked on most occasions (approx 90% of occasions thus far); other times a jump start was required.

Vehicle died when auto start/stop was activated at a stop sign. The vehicle had to be jumped to restart. My wife and 8 month old baby were in the vehicle alone in heavy traffic and nearly caused an accident.

We are new with this vehicle and a couple times now we couldn’t open the drivers door to get out. When you put the car in gear it auto locks which it should. But however after parking and shutting the car off the drivers door wouldn’t unlock.

However the same problem is known to honda but until someone is killed, they are refusing to acknowledge, the camshaft shutting off all controls while driving on a highway is completely dangerous. As an experienced driver, I was able to avoid a collusion on a major highway surrounded by tractor trailers going 65mph.

Twice in the last week my honda pilot has shut off when auto-idling at a stop light. The car should remain in drive but when I looked down it had shifted to neutral. The first message on the dash briefly flashed 'crash mitigation problem' and then instructed me to put the car in park and push the engine start button.

About 4 months ago I was at a stoplight, my engine shut down, as it was supposed to with the 'auto idle stop' function. It is supposed to start back up when you take your foot off the brake, but this time the car stalled. It stalled many times after this and it was always unexpected and scary.

On numerous occasions, beginning just months after purchase, I have had all of the indicator light turn on on my dash, including the lkas, collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, road departure and various notifications for my bluetooth, radio and navigation come on. Also, my backup camera will have a black screen and then my maps will be gray with no information.

The collision mitigation system comes on and issues a warning that it no longer operates after driving along a road where there are numerous orange cones along the side of the road. The systems states it is overloaded and stops functioning. System must be re-coded by dealer in order for system to work again.

Two separate incidents in sacramento, ca where we experienced engine failure with our 2016 honda pilate elite. The first incident occurred in may 2016 on a busy city street with our three young children in the car. Severe risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. At 5:00 am in the morning the alarm on my car went off by itself and there was no way I could turn it off or even start the car. I finally disconnected the battery to stop the car and later reconnected the battery assuming the issue was gone.

After the motor company installed TSB 23-0087, PGM-FI Idle Stop Software Update on the consumers vehicle, the vehicle had problems with idle stopping and no auto or cold restart. Consumer lodged a complaint with the motor company.

When Engine Idle Stop is engaged vehicle cuts off or stalls when you let up off of brakes. - Honda could not tell me why it was doing it. - no warning -car cut off completely in the middle of traffic at a stop light during rush hour.

Last Fall I was driving, exiting freeway, I slowed down before I got to traffic light, then my vehicle stalled. I looked down and push the drive button (I had the auto idle-stop on), then pressed on gas, but car would not move. I pushed the start button twice and nothing happened.

I am the second owner of this vehicle. I purchased it certified used from goudy honda 626.576.1114 on 11/13/2019. The battery was replaced at time of vehicle's purchase.

Over the past few years, I have had issues with my car shutting off when at a stop after the auto off feature engages and does not turn back on. I have to put the car in park and manually restart the engine to continue. This was happening at least a couple times a month.

There are two major problems, but the dangerous one is the auto-idle doesn't always allow the car to restart. My honda pilot will stall out when coming out of the auto start/stop feature at an intersection. This problem started happening in july 2019 after having the transmission double replaced.
