Owner Complaints (2)
The owns a 2011 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle started shaking abnormally and almost stalled. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and waited for several minutes before the vehicle regained stability functionality and the vehicle stopped shaking. The VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) warning light illuminated. The failure had occurred five times. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine block was causing oil leaking from piston rings unto the spark plugs. The spark plug was replaced and the contact was advised to drive at speeds of 40 MPH or slower. The repair was provided as a temporary fix. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
CONTINUED REPLACEMENT OF SPARK PLUGS AND BURNING TOO MUCH OIL. I'M NOW REPLACING SPARK PLUG #2 EVERY 6 MONTHS. WITHOUT NOTICE WHILE DRIVING, ALL ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE, ENGINE BEGINS TO SPUTTER AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. NO OPTION AVAILABLE OTHER THAN TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK. IN SOME CASES, SIMPLY THE ACT OF ACCELERATING TOO QUICKLY TO WILL CAUSE THE SAME ISSUE. VERY DANGEROUS! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THE CLASS ACTION AGAINST HONDA FOR THE 2011 HONDA PILOT ENGINE MISFIRE DIDN'T INCLUDE MY VIN# YET I CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE ENGINE MISFIRE? IT SHOULD BE APPARENT THAT THIS ISSUE WAS NOT SPECIFIC TO ONE MANUFACTURING PLANT AND THAT IT IS AN OVERALL DESIGN DEFECT. I PURCHASED MY 2011 HONDA PILOT BECAUSE I WANTED A SAFE AND RELIABLE VEHICLE. THIS ENGINE MISFIRE HAS LEFT ME SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH CHILDREN AND DOGS IN TOW. THE OPPOSITE OF SAFE AND RELIABLE WITH A $30,000 PRICE TAG. VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT HONDA ISN'T STEPPING UP TO MAKE THESE REPAIRS.
