Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2014 Honda Insight and Acura TSX and TSX Wagon, 2014-2015 Honda Crosstour and Pilot vehicles nationwide, as well as certain 2014 Honda FCX Clarity and Fit EV vehicles in Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, California, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan) and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Honda is also recalling certain 2011-2013 Acura TSX, TSX Wagon and ZDX, Honda Crosstour, Insight, Fit and Pilot vehicles, 2011-2012 Honda Accord and 2011 Honda Civic NGV, Civic, Civic Hybrid and CR-V vehicles in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag air bag inflators assembled as part of the frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment (such as after a vehicle crash necessitating replacement of the original air bags), may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to higher absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are M2J and S2K.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger frontal air bag module assembly, free of charge. The recall began June 22, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are K1P, and M1O.

Honda is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 Pilot and 2011-2013 Odyssey passenger vehicles manufactured from March 13, 2008, through December 21, 2012. One or more rivets that attach the airbag module to the airbag cover may be missing.

Fix: Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda dealer. The dealer will inspect the driver's airbag module and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 14, 2013. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

OUR VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A NEAR-HEAD ON COLLISION WITH DAMAGE PRIMARILY ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE QUARTER OF THE VEHICLE. OUR VEHICLE WAS TRAVELLING AT LEAST 45 MILES PER HOUR, THE EXACT SPEED IS UNKNOWN. THE DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, BUT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DID. MY WIFE WAS THE DRIVER AND ONLY OCCUPANT, SHE BRIEFLY LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AFTER THE IMPACT. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS PARTIALLY CRUSHED IN AND THE TOP OF THE FRAME WAS BENT IN TOWARDS THE CABIN. WHEN SHE AWAKENED, MY WIFE SAW THE DOOR FRAME WITHIN A COUPLE OF INCHES OF HER FACE. THANKFULLY SHE DID NOT SEEM TO STRIKE HER HEAD AGAINST THE FRAME, BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT SHE DIDN'T. WHEN THE FIRST RESPONDERS ARRIVED, THEY HAD TO CUT THE CONNECTION TO THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS AND THEY WERE SURPRISED TO SEE THAT THE COLLISION HAD NOT TRIGGERED THEM. I HAVE ATTACHED A PICTURE OF THE VEHICLE DOOR FRAME AND THE AIRBAGS THAT FAILED TO DEPLOY. WE WANTED TO BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION JUST IN CASE IT IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT.

I TOOK MY CAR TO DEALER TO WORK ON 3 RECALL NOTICES ON DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG (NOT TAKATA RELATED SINCE IT'S NOT A TAKATA AIRBAG), PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG, AND SEAT BELT. I ALSO HAD A SRS WARNING LIGHT THAT WAS ON CONSTANTLY FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS SO I HAD THE DEALER DIAGNOSE THE WARNING LIGHT. THE CODE SHOWED 11-21 (SOMETHING ABOUT OPEN OR INCREASED RESISTANCE ON THE AIRBAG). THE DEALER SAID THE AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $1200 AND THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY TAMPERING WITH THE AIRBAG WIRING. THIS TOTALLY DID NOT MAKE SENSE SINCE I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND NOBODY TAMPERED WITH THE AIRBAG. THE LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON AFTER 5-6 YEARS SINCE I OWNED THE VEHICLE AND THE CAR WAS NEVER INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS LOOKS LIKE A POOR QUALITY AIR BAG WAS USED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MADE AND I THINK HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THIS AIRBAG AT THEIR COST.

SEVERAL CALLS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY ARE STILL UNABLE TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN OVER 2 MONTHS (60 DAYS) SINCE I CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR A REPAIR APPOINTMENT. ALL OF THIS TIME I MUST AVOID HAVING ANY PASSENGERS RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THE RECALL IS PERFORMED. THEY SUGGEST WE DO NOT HAVE ANYONE RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AS PART OF THEIR RECOMMENDATION. WITH A FAMILY OF 4 WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS THERE RECOMMENDATION IS NOT POSSIBLE. OUR OTHER VEHICLE THEY SUGGEST WE DRIVE IS A HONDA RIDGELINE, ALSO PART OF THE RECALL FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THERE IS ALSO NOT ENOUGH ROOM IN THE BACK TO SEAT 2 CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS ALONG WITH AN ADULT. EACH TIME WE HAVE CALLED THAT SAY THEY WILL ESCALATE THE CASE. O I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM HONDA IN JULY 2016, INSTRUCTING ME TO NOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. O I CONTACTED THEM ON 7/19/2016, AND THEY SAID THAT A CASE MANAGER WOULD CALL ME BACK, BUT NO SUCH CALL CAME. O I CALLED THEM BACK ON 8/5/2016. THEY TOLD ME A CASE MANAGER WOULD CALL ME BACK, BUT AGAIN, NO SUCH CALL CAME. THEY TOLD ME MY CASE NUMBER IS 04888305. THEY ALSO TOLD ME TO CALL MY DEALER, WHICH I DID, (THEY SAID THAT PARTS ARE BACK ORDERED, WITH NO DELIVERY ESTIMATE, AND MEANWHILE, I'M STILL USING THE FRONT SEAT. O I CALLED THEM BACK ON 8/22. THIS TIME, THEY SENT AN INTERNAL MESSAGE TO THE CASE WORKER, MARKING THIS CASE AS URGENT, BUT AGAIN, NO CALL BACK HAS TAKEN PLACE. SO, IN SUMMARY, IT HAS BEEN 45 DAYS SINCE MY FIRST PHONE CALL TO HONDA, AND I STILL HAVE RECEIVED ZERO RESPONSE. AT THIS POINT, IT APPEARS THAT HONDA IS REFUSING TO CALL ME REGARDING THIS AIRBAG RECALL. DUE TO MY LARGE FAMILY, I AM FORCED TO USE THE FRONT SEAT, AND THIS PUTS MY FAMILY AT RISK. I WANT TO DISCUSS WITH THEM THE AVAILABILITY OF ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION WHILE WE ARE WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE.

HONDA'S NOT TAKING CARE OF CUSTOMERS (HONDA OWNERS SINCE 1978) AS THEY SHOULD. WE WERE THEN INFORMED THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL OF AFFECTED AIRBAGS. ADDITIONALLY, IT WOULD COST $900+ TO REPLACE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IS PLACED ON THE CONSUMER RATHER THAN THE MANUFACTURER. THERE IS NO REASON THAT A VEHICLE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IS LESS THAN FIVE YEARS OLD SHOULD BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I AM SURE THAT WE ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. COMING OUT OF A 30MPH ZONE INTO A 55MPH ZONE -- I HAD ACCELERATED TO ABOUT 45MPG WHEN I HIT AN ICY SECTION OF A THE ROAD. I LOST CONTROL OF OUR HONDA PILOT ON A GRADUAL TURN IN THE ROAD. THE PILOT TURNED SIDEWAYS. I QUICKLY TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL AS THE VEHICLE POSITIONED ITSELF FORWARD, BUT HEADED FOR THE DITCH. STILL OUT OF CONTROL, A UTILITY POLE WAS UNAVOIDABLE. I HIT THE POLE HEAD ON AT A 45 MPH SPEED. THE VEHICLE SNAPPED THE UTILITY POLE IN HALF AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AFTER 20 FEET. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR ME OR MY PASSENGER. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE 2011 HONDA PILOT MY WIFE COMPLAINED OF EYES AND THROAT IRRITATION WHEN TRAVELING IN THE CAR FOR A HALF HOUR OR LONGER. THERE IS NO ODOR. I DID NOT SEEM TO BE SENSITIVE TO THESE SYMPTOMS AT THIS TIME. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED AND THEY FOUND NO LEAKS, ENGINE/HEATER/AIR CONDITIONING. PROBLEM CONTINUED YEAR ROUND WITH BOTH THE HEATER IN OPERATION AND/OR THE AIR CONDITIONING. OVER THE MONTHS AND YEARS MY WIFE CONTINUED TO COMPLAIN AND SUBSEQUENT VISITS TO THE DEALER RESULTED IN CHECKS FOR LEAKS (NONE FOUND) AND REPLACEMENTS OF CABIN FILTER BUT NO RESULTS. MY WIFE CONTINUED TO TOLERATE BY TURNING OF VENTS AND OPENING HER WINDOW OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS THE PROBLEM HAS MARKEDLY WORSENED AND IT BOTHERS ME NOW AS WELL AS MY FOUR GRAND CHILDREN WHO ARE FREQUENT PASSENGERS. EYES, NOSE, THROAT AND LIPS FEEL A BURNING SENSATION PLUS HEADACHES. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER YESTERDAY WITH THE SAME RESULT. THEY FOUND NO LEAKS, REPLACED CABIN FILTER, 15 MILE TEST RIDE WITH MANAGER AND HE SAID HE DID NOT NOTICE OUR SYMPTOMS ($170). I TALKED WITH 2 OTHER HONDA DEALERS AFTERWARDS AND THEY CLAIM TO KNOW OF NO SUCH PROBLEM BUT ARE WILLING TO TROUBLESHOOT TO TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS (AT MY EXPENSE). MY INTERNET SEARCH OF THE LAST 12 HOURS INDICATES THAT OUR SYMPTOM ARE TOTALLY CONSISTENT WITH THE EXPOSURE TO THE EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS USED IN THE AIR BAGS, NAMELY THE HIGHLY TOXIC SODIUM AZIDE AND POTASSIUM NITRATE. PURCHASED BRAND NEW PILOT IN JUNE 2011. AROUND NOON I WAS DRIVING DOWN ON STRETCH OF ROAD AT ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN I SAW A VEHICLE WITH A TRAILER MOVING AHEAD OF ME. AS I APPROACHED TO PASS THE VEHICLE IT APPEARED TO SLOW DOWN AND STARTED TURNING LEFT AHEAD ON THE ROAD. THE TRAILER IT WAS HAULING DID NOT HAVE ANY SIGNAL OR BRAKE LIGHTS. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOWED BY APPLYING MY BRAKES BUT THE PILOT DID NOT STOP AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES OR SLOW DOWN. IT SEEM TO ACCELERATE INSTEAD OF STOPPING EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I SAW DITCHES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD SO I WAS NOT ABLE TO AVOID THE CRASH. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS HALF WAY TURNING SO I HIT THE BACK OF THE TRAILER AND IT WENT LEFT AND I WENT RIGHT ON THE ROAD.THE STOPPED PILOT STARTED SMOKING INSIDE AND EVERYONE JUMPED OUT OF THE PILOT. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE SMOKE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE SEAT BELTS AND THE FORCE OF IMPACT. EVEN THOUGH THE PILOT HAD MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT ALONG WITH THE AIR BAG SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED.
