AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling specific 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2013-2016 ILX, 2013-2014 ILX Hybrid, 2003-2006 MDX, 2007-2016 RDX, 2002-2003 3.2TL, 2004-2006, and 2009-2014 TL, 2010-2013 ZDX and 2001-2007 and 2009 Honda Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2003-2005 Civic Hybrid, 2001-2005 Civic GX NGV, 2002-2007 and 2010-2011 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2007 Fit, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, and 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. Honda owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is O41. Acura owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Acura's number for this recall is U40.

The vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

The front passenger air bag may have been installed incorrectly during replacement.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger frontal air bag module assembly, free of charge. The recall began June 22, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are K1P, and M1O.

Specifically, vehicles sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Saipan, Guam, and American Samoa are addressed by this recall. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger side air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 26, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2001-2007 Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2001-2004 Honda Civic GX, 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2002-2006 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, 2006 Ridgeline, 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2003-2006 Acura MDX, and 2002-2003 Acura 3.2TL vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion and other factors, including manufacturing variability that, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. Note: Vehicles that have had their driver frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy prior to September 12, 2014 need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. Vehicles that, on or after September 12, 2014, received a remedy for a prior driver frontal air bag inflator recall already received an inflator of a different design, and therefore are not included in this recall and do not require additional servicing. Note: This recall fully supersedes recalls 08V-593, 09V-259, 10V-041, 11V-260, 14V-351 and 15V-153. Honda's numbers for this recall are JQ9, JR0, JR1, JR2, JR3, JR4, JR5, JR6, JR7, and JR8.

Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the inflators in all affected vehicles, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during August 2014. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

You're concerned that the driver's side airbag could accidentally deploy and cause injury, especially since your vehicle is 20 years old with over 300,000 miles. The dealership told you the repair isn't covered under Honda's airbag recall program and charged a $100 diagnostic fee. You'll likely need professional diagnostic service and possibly airbag system component replacement to resolve the warning light and ensure the system operates safely.

The Honda dealership says diagnosing the problem will cost $100 and that it's not covered under any airbag recall, so you'd have to pay for repairs yourself. You're concerned that if the airbag malfunctions in a crash, you won't be protected. Fixing this will likely require a diagnostic scan of the airbag system followed by repair or replacement of whatever component is causing the warning light.

DESPITE THIS I HAVE BEEN GETTING LETTERS INCORRECTLY STATING THAT I DIDN'T GET IT REPAIRED YET. I HAVE UPLOADED THE DOCUMENTATION SHOWING THE AIRBAG REPAIR DONE ON 10/15/2015. PLEASE CORRECT THE RECORD SO I STOP GETTING THE MAILINGS REGARDING THIS. I ALSO WANT TO CORRECT THE RECORD SO THERE IS NO PROBLEM IF I WANT TO SELL THE CAR.

LATE IN 2015 I RECEIVED A MAILING FROM WILDE HONDA, WAUKESHA, WI AN "URGENT/RECALL NOTICE" CONCERNING MY 2004 HONDA PILOT REGARDING A POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE AIRBAG INFLATOR. I CONTACTED THE DEALER LISTED AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. I DROPPED MY CAR OFF ON 12/28/15 TO HAVE THIS REPAIR PERFORMED. . THE REASON FOR THE APPOINTMENT WAS THIS AIRBAG SERVICE. . . I ON THE RECEIPT PROVIDED IT SHOWS THAT THEY HAD PERFORMED THE AIR BAG INFLATOR SERVICE. IN EARLY FEBRUARY OF 2016 I RECEIVED ANOTHER MAILING INFORMING ME TO HAVE THIS AIRBAG SERVICE PERFORMED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THE ORIGINAL SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THE REPAIR ON THE AIR BAG RECALL HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED AT THE EARLIER SERVICE APPOINTMENT. HE DID NOT KNOW WHY, AND ADMITTED IT WAS A MISTAKE. I EVENTUALLY TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE OFFERED TO REPAIR THE CAR IF IT WAS BROUGHT BACK. MY CONCERNS IN THIS CASE , IT MIGHT BE A COMMON ONE WITH THIS DEANSHIP. THEY NEVER CONTACTED ME REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED THEM IN FEB 16 TO FOLLOW UP ON ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE. TWO MONTHS AFTER THE SUPPOSED AIRBAG REPAIR.THEY HAVE MY CELL NUMBER AND MAILING ADDRESS AND CANNOT PROVIDE ANY PROOF THEY EVER TRIED TO CONTACT ME. I HAVE A PHONE LOG AND SHOW NO INCOMING CALLS FROM THEM IT SEEMS THAT THEY WERE ONLY CONCERNED WITH THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE WHEN HONDA WOULD NOT REIMBURSE THEM FOR THIS WARRANTY REPAIR BECAUSE THEY USED THE INCORRECT PART TO MAKE THE REPAIR! THE DEALERS ACTIONS HAVE PLACED THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY RISK. THEIR ONLY OFFER TO FIX THIS AIR BAG SERVICE MISTAKE IS TO BRING THE CAR BACK FOR SERVICE. I CALLED THE 800 NUMBER LISTED ON THE LETTER TO HONDA OWNERS TO ENQUIRE AS TO WHETHER MY HONDA PILOT WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG. THE OPERATOR, "[XXX]" (DECLINE TO PROVIDE LAST NAME), STATED THAT IT WAS NOT. WHEN ASKED WHY IT WAS NOT AS IT WAS IN THE AFFECTED YEAR RANGE, 2003-2007, SHE STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS VIN SPECIFIC. WHEN ASKED HOW HONDA COULD KNOW THAT AS THEY DON'T KNOW THE VEHICLE CONTENT BY VIN (PER [XXX] AT THE SAME NUMBER THE DAY BEFORE), SHE COULD NOT ANSWER. I ASKED HER IF HONDA COULD ASSIGN A CASE MANAGER TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT MY VEHICLE CONTAINED A TAKATA DRIVER'S AIRBAG AND SHE STATED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT A DEALER ON MY OWN. WHEN ASKED IF SHE WOULD CONFIRM THIS WITH HER SUPERVISOR, SHE DID SO AND REPLIED THAT WHAT SHE HAD SAID WAS OFFICIAL HONDA POLICY. WHEN ASKED HER SUPERVISOR'S NAME SHE DECLINED STARTING THAT SHE COULD NOT REVEAL THIS INFORMATION. WHEN INFORMED THAT A CONTEMPORANEOUS RECORD OF THIS CALL HAD BEEN TRANSCRIBED AND WOULD BE PROVIDED TO COUNSEL IN THE EVENT OF AN INCIDENT INVOLVING MY VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS SHE WAS NONCOMMITTAL. THE BRAKE WERE DEPRESSED WHILE THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OFF. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE SHERIFF TO PERFORM A FORENSIC EXAMINATION ON IT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE HONDA MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

INQUIRED WITH OTHER OWNERS IN MY TOWN THAT OWN SAME CARE, MAKE AND MODEL YEAR 2004 AND 2005. 6 OTHER WOMEN IN MY TOWN HAVE HAD EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR PILOT. I FEEL IT SHOULD BE A WARRANTED PART DUE TO IT BEING A LIFE SAFETY ISSUE OF A DEFECTIVE SENSOR ON THE PILOT. COMPLAINED TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP, HERB CHAMBERS HONDA, WESTBOROUGH, MA. THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD SOME REPAIRS LIKE THAT BUT NOT ALOT AND IT IS NOT A RECALL PROBLEM. HE ASKED IF I WANTED MY CAR WASHED; IT WAS FREE. HALF WAY HOME, (I LIVE ONE HOUR AWAY) I REALIZED THE WARNING LIGHT WAS STILL ON. THE NEXT DAY, FRIDAY, WE DROVE TO GEORGIA. ON OUR WAY HOME, WE ROLLED THREE TIMES IN OUR HONDA PILOT. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS OPENED. ALTHOUGH WE WALKED AWAY, WE SUFFERED HEAD AND NECK INJURIES, NONE OF WHICH WERE LIFE THREATENING.
