Your engine has unexpectedly accelerated while you were braking, causing the car to surge forward twice despite your efforts to stop. This happened while approaching a traffic light and made it very difficult to control the vehicle. The dealer was unable to identify or reproduce the problem after a thorough inspection. Resolving this issue may require diagnosing the fuel injection system, throttle control, or brake system interaction to identify the cause of the unintended acceleration.

My vehicle problems started on February 6, 2024 while my daughter was driving back to her house. My 2016 Honda Odyssey EXL started shaking violently at 55 - 60 mph. Upon towing my vehicle to have my certified mechanic to check it out, check engine light was on with codes and misfires. He determined that the variable timing valve solenoid was bad. He replaced faulty part as well as both oil pressure switches and it then came up with check engine light, as well as FCW, LDW, & anti-skid warning lights!? It also had a couple different codes. He then replace other variable timing valve solenoid on front of the engine. After taking vehicle to dealership, to get diagnosed, they suggested several repairs totaling over $3800, which none could insure that it would fix problem (2 of their suggestions were already done by my mechanic). Taking dealership suggestions, my mechanic replaced spark plugs and coil boots, adjusted valves which were fairly close, along with new valve cover gaskets. Now my vehicle runs better but has this engine knock when engine switches from ECO mode to regular full cylinders. Asked dealership about checking/reprogramming control module, but they won't do it!? Any suggestions??? Considering purchasing bypass kit even though I will lose gas mileage
Failure of computer module in my 2016 Odyssey caused the key safety systems to all fault. ABS, traction control, LDW, and other systems all went into fault after a light tap on the breaks at parking lot speeds (less than 10 mph). This van has under 30,000 miles on it and was purchased by me brand new.
WHILE MAKING LEFT TURN ACCELERATED AFTER PRESSING THE BRAKE. THIS HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET.
I LEASE A 2016 HONDA ODYSSEY. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY EXTREMELY SLOW. I WAS PUTTING THE BRAKE ON. THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION. WHEN I MOVED THE CAR FROM DRIVE TO PARK THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. IT HIT THE SIDE OF MY HOUSE DISLODGING FOURTEEN BRICKS. THE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. I HAVE BLACK AND BLUES AND THE RESIDUE FROM THE AIRBAG BURNED MY FINGER. THE VEHICLE IS BEING EVALUATED BY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP I LEASED IT FROM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED FROM DRIVE INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WOULD NEED TO PAY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL HER LOCAL DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD RAPIDLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXTREME FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 812.
AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT (06/22/2016), I HAD ONLY OWNED THIS 2016 HONDA ODYSSEY FOR A MONTH (DIDN'T EVEN HAVE PLATES ON IT YET). I DROPPED OFF A PASSENGER AT THE FRONT OF THE DINER AND DROVE SLOWLY EAST THROUGH THE PARKING LOT. THE LOT IS NARROW, CROWDED, AND BUSY, WHICH IS WHY I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AT ANY TIME. INSTEAD, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE REGULATING A VERY SLOW, CREEPING SPEED. I DECIDED TO PARK IN A STALL THAT FACED WEST WHICH MEANT I NEEDED TO MAKE A MODERATELY WIDE, HARD, RIGHT U-TURN. THERE ARE SHORT SECURITY POLES AT THE HEAD OF THESE STALLS TO PROTECT DINERS INSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS ABOUT 150 INTO THE TURN, ABOUT FIVE FEET AWAY FROM THE POLE WHEN IT SUDDENLY SURGED AND ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I WAS CONFUSED BECAUSE I WAS VERY AWARE THAT MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I STEPPED DOWN ON IT, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. THE VAN SURGED INTO THE REST OF THE TURN AND SLAMMED INTO THE PARKING POLE LEAVING A DEEP DENT IN THE FRONT BUMPER. BECAUSE I FELT UNSAFE DRIVING IT, IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE CENTER. THE NEXT DAY, AFTER CHECKING THE CAR'S COMPUTER, HONDA FOUND NO FAULT CODES SO COULD OFFER NO REASSURANCES THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I SUBMITTED THE REPAIR OF THE BUMPER TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY SO THAT THERE IS RECORD OF THIS EVENT.
