FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

ON CERTAIN MINIVANS, THE FUEL PUMP MAY FAIL DUE TO CORROSION OF AN ELECTRICAL TERMINAL.

Fix: DEALERS WILL CHECK THE ELECTRICAL COUPLER TERMINAL OF THE FUEL PUMP. IF ANY CORROSION IS FOUND, THE PUMP WILL BE REPLACED. THE RECALL BEGAN SEPTEMBER 27, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

I OWN HONDA ODESSY SINCE 09/ 2017. I REPLACED TIMING BELT WITH ONE YEAR WARRANTY, BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID NOT DO IT. 12/09/16 I TOOK MY HONDA ODESSY 2004 TO MANHATTAN HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL. I ASKED TO HONDA REPRESENTATIVE TO CHECK AND TELL ME WHAT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE OR REPAIR. I KNEW THAT TRANSMISSION RECALL FOR HONDA ODESSY 2004 WAS OPEN AND TOLD THEM TO CHECK AND REPAIR IT IF IT IS NECESSARY, BUT THEY REFUSED TO DO IT THEY TOLD ME THAT MY HONDA HAS MANY ISSUES AND REPAIR ALL NECESSARY THINGS WILL COST ME $10000. THE FUEL PUMP, TIMING BELT, WHICH I ALREADY REPLACED, AND TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WAS INCLUDED IN THE REPAIR LIST. LAST MONTH I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR. IT WAS LOOSING POWER AND STOPPING WHEN I WAS DRIVING. IT WAS DANGEROUS FOR TRAFFIC. IT OCCUR ON VERY DANGEROUS SPATS, LIKE EXITS FROM HGWAY, BROOKLYN BRIDGE ETC., I COULD START UP CAR IN 5 MINUTES AND IT WAS DRAWING WITH NO PROBLEMS THEN. IT WAS A FEW TIMES LIKE THIS AND THE LAST TIME I DROVE HOME AND COULDN'T START UP THE CAR NO MORE. I TOWED CAR TO REPAIR SHOP AND MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY FUEL PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I CAME HOME AND STARTED RESEARCH AND FOUND THE RECALL FOR HONDA ODESSY FUEL PUMP, FOR HONDA ODESSY THAT WAS BUILT ON AND AFTER 06/21/04 IS ON RECALL FOR FUEL PUMP REPAIR OR REPLACE. MY HONDA ODESSY WAS BUILT 06/2004 I REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND CAR IS RUNNING VERY GOOD NOW AND I DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN. BECAUSE I HAD THE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM AFTER MY CAR WAS ON RECALL, AND BECAUSE THEY KNEW THAT FUEL PUMP REPLACE WAS INCLUDED IN RECALL, AND THEY KNEW THAT MY CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM AND DID NOT FIXED IT I AM HEREBY ASKING THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO REIMBURSE MONEY THAT I SPENT ON FUEL PUMP REPAIR $653.03. I ALSO ASKING HONDA DEALERSHIP TO CHECK AGAIN A TRANSMISSION AND REPAIR IT, IF IT IS NECESSARY.

THE TRANSMISSION FAILED UPON ENTERING THE FREEWAY. VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND FORCED TO PULL OVER. ALMOST REAR ENDED BY OTHER CARS ALSO ENTERING THE FREEWAY. HONDA ODYSSEYS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND THIS BODY STYLE 1999 TO 2004 ARE DEFECTIVE. FROM MY READINGS A LARGE QUANTITY OF THE TRANSMISSIONS FAILED AT 80,000 SO AT LEAST WE MADE IT TO 125,000 MILES. I REGULARLY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED AND DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED DUE TO CORROSION AND RUST. THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V420000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE, HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

AFTER THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT SAW AND SMELLED GAS AS THE SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 104,000.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,051 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 169,651.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT HAS TO HOLD THE NOZZLE TO ADD FUEL TO THE TANK. THE FUEL WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATED FOR TWO WEEKS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V420000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP); HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT INDICATE THE RESULTS. ON OCTOBER 18, 2007, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS ENGINE FAILURE AND AIR CONDITIONER WIRES WERE HANGING, WHICH COULD POSSIBLY BE RELATED TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM. THE CONTACT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE ESTIMATED PREVIOUS FAILURE WAS ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2007. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE WAS ON OCTOBER 29, 2007. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,500.

VEHICLE WILL STALL SPARADICALLY WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES OF DRIVING. VEHICLE CAN EITHER BE COLD OR PREVIOUSLY DRIVEN AND STALL WILL OCCUR. ONCE STALL OCCURS THE ENGINE WILL RESTART WITHOUT A PROBLEM. STALL CAN OCCUR AS MANY AS THREE TIMES DAILY OR NOT FOR SEVERAL DAYS. AT A STOP SIGN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO TURN ONTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC GOING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE INETRSECTION. BOTH MY YOUNG CHILDREN AND I WERE NEARLY KILLED. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE DEALER AND HONDA AS WELL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE ON THIS ISSUE FOUR TIMES AND DEALER IS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM IS NOW ONGOING FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THIS SHOULD BE A REAL SAFETY CONCERN TO HONDA AS WELL AS ALL ODYSSEY OWNERS. *NM

MY VAN CONTINUES TO STALL. THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL PUMP RELAY WAS REPLACED IN LATE SEPTEMBER, BUT THE VAN CONTINUES TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT WILL START, RUN FOR 1-3 SECONDS, AND SHUT DOWN. IT WILL TAKE ANYWHERE FROM ONE TRY ONE HOUR WORTH OF TRIES TO GET IT TO START UP AGAIN. THE VAN HAS LEFT MY FAMILY STRANDED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE HONDA DEALER, AND THEY TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL. I DON'T BELIEVE A VEHICLE WITH 7000 MILES NORMALLY DOES NOT START, AND CAN TAKE UP TO ONE HOUR TO START. THEY ALSO HAVE TOLD ME THAT I AM FLOODING THE VEHICLE-EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT TOUCHING THE FOOTFEET AND HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN A FUEL INJECTED VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE TO THE POINT THAT WE DO NOT EVEN WANT THE VEHICLE, BUT OUR DEALER DOES NOT SEEM TO TAKE US SERIOUSLY. I READ A COMPLAINT THAT A CUSTOMER FILED STATING METAL WAS SENT THROUGHOUT HER VEHICLES FUEL LINES. HOW CAN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECK TO SEE IF THIS IS WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONTINUALLY TELLS ME THEY CAN DO NOTHING UNLESS THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THIS HAS YET TO HAPPEN. I AM VERY TIRED OF BEING STRANDED BY MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE. *AK

MY FAMILY AND I WERE ON A VACATION IN OUR 2004 ODYSSEY. OUR VACATION WAS ALMOST 2000 MILES, ROUND TRIP. WHEN WE WERE NEARING OUR DESTINATION, OUR VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO LOSE POWER WHEN WE WOULD TRY TO PASS. IT WAS GETTING SO BAD THAT WE DECIDED TO PULL OFF AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP ALONG THE INTERSTATE. THE SERVICEMAN JUMPED IN THE VEHICLE AND IT DID NOT ACT OUT OF THE ORDINARY. HE TOLD US THAT LIKELY A COMPUTER CHIP WAS OFF AND NEEDED RESETTING, SO IF IT DID IT AGAIN, TO BE SURE TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. WE PROCEEDED ANOTHER 60 MILES OR SO WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON OUR RETURN TRIP A WEEK LATER, THE VAN DID THE SAME THING. IT WAS GETTING SO BAD THAT WE COULD ONLY GO 45 MILES PER HOUR IN THE PASSING LANE ON THE INTERSTATE. (KEEP IN MIND THAT OUR VAN HAD LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON IT WHEN WE LEFT FOR OUR TRIP.) WE PULLED OFF A FEW TIMES TO TRY TO "RESET" THE VEHICLE, TO NO AVAIL. FINALLY, WE KNEW WE WOULD NOT MAKE IT HOME. AT THAT POINT, OUR ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHTS CAME ON AND STAYED ON. WE PULLED OFF AT ANOTHER SERVICE CENTER, AT WHICH POINT OUR VAN TOTALLY DIED. WE HAD TO HAVE A TOW, A TAXI, AND GET A HOTEL SINCE IT WAS SUNDAY. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND SENT METAL THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM. THEY HAD TO FLUSH THE TANK, HOSES, ETC., REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, AND REPLACE A COUPLE OF FUEL INJECTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF SERVICE FOR ELEVEN DAYS. WE ARE NOW FEARFUL THAT THERE IS ENGINE DAMAGE THAT WON'T SHOW UP UNTIL AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. SO FAR, HONDA HAS PAID FOR THE REPAIRS AND OUR RENTAL CAR HOME (WE THINK), AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE TOW AND THE HOTEL BUT WILL NOT PAY FOR THE CAB, THE EXTRA MEALS OUT, ALL OF OUR PHONE CALLS TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS, ETC. THEY BASICALLY SAID THAT IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT THAT WE WERE SO FAR FROM HOME WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED. WE TOTALLY DISTRUST OUR VAN AND DON'T LIKE HONDA OF AMERICA'S ATTITUDE.
