Open Safety Recalls (5)
NHTSA Campaign: 18V663000
Component: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.
Risk: The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.
NHTSA Campaign: 18V817000
Component: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. The owners guide in these vehicles may not have been included or if included, the owner's guide may not have been properly provided required information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."
Risk: If the information is missing or improper, it can increase the risk of injury or a crash.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the owners information kit, free of charge. The recall began January 9, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is O3A.
NHTSA Campaign: 18V266000
Component: AIR BAGS
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. Driver and front passenger seatback pads sold as replacement service parts were made without slit openings for the seat-mounted side air bags. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
Risk: If the seat-mounted air bags cannot not deploy correctly in the event of a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seatback pads, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is E1D, U1B, and X1C.
NHTSA Campaign: 17V706000
Component: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe vehicles. The right halfshaft may have been improperly heat treated, reducing its strength.
Risk: The improper heat treatment can result in the halfshaft breaking, preventing the engine from moving the vehicle, and can allow a possible roll away situation if the parking brake is not engaged. This can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the halfshaft's serial number, replacing it as necessary and aligning the front wheels, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is K0E.
NHTSA Campaign: 23V858000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2023 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2022 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2015-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Pilot, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Risk: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 555)
Steering →12 issues
Your steering wheel jerks or pulls suddenly to the left or right while driving on highways, especially after 30 minutes to an hour of driving. When you try to make small corrections to stay straight, the steering grabs and pulls hard in one direction, which has nearly caused accidents in heavy traffic. No warning lights appear, but this unpredictable behavior makes the car difficult to control safely.

Your steering wheel feels sticky and requires extra force to turn from a stopped position, causing jerky and unpredictable steering movements. This makes it difficult to stay in your lane since small adjustments aren't possible, and the steering seems to skip or catch unexpectedly. The owner mentions that newer Honda Civic models were recalled for similar issues and is concerned about potential loss of control while driving.

Your steering wheel is sticking when you make small adjustments at highway speeds, then suddenly releasing and causing the car to overcorrect and veer off course. This makes the vehicle hard to control and could be dangerous. This problem has been reported by multiple owners of this model year on online forums. A mechanic should inspect your steering system, steering column, and power steering components for binding or wear.

The electric power steering intermittently resists driver input during low-speed maneuvers and near full-lock turns. Steering effort suddenly increases and feels as if assist is being applied against driver input. This behavior matches the failure description in Honda EPS torque sensor magnet recall (2017–2018 Civic / CR-V, campaign C2N / P20).

Your steering wheel feels stiff and resistant when driving above 40 mph, making it harder to steer smoothly, especially on the highway. This issue appears similar to a known recall affecting other 2017 Honda Civics, but your vehicle's VIN isn't included in that recall despite showing the same symptoms. A steering system inspection and potential repair of the steering column or intermediate shaft may be needed to restore proper steering feel and responsiveness.

When driving my car the steering wheel was sticking really bad I had to use both hands just to keep it in control. I’m only on disability so when the McConnell Honda car here in Montgomery Al said it wasn’t the year that was recalled for this problem and it would cost me over 4600.00 I was floored. 2016 was recalled not 2017 .

Car has only 45,000 miles. Steering suddenly “sticks” on the highway. You have to apply pressure to break it out of sticking in the middle position.

Engine →2 issues
Your 2017 Honda Civic's head gasket failed at 110,000 miles, was repaired by a Honda dealership, and then failed again after just 36,000 more miles. When it failed the second time, your car went into limp mode while you were driving on the interstate at highway speeds with no warning beforehand. The dealership has confirmed the head gasket failed again, though it hasn't been inspected further yet. Fixing this will require the dealership to replace the head gasket and potentially inspect the engine for related damage.

The 10th generation Honda Civic's have multiple extended warranties from Honda for bad Air Compressors and Condensers. And the A/C Evaporator needs to be included in this. My car only has 60,000 miles on it, is not driven daily, and my A/C Evaporator is leaking Freon due to a bad part.

Visibility,unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your AC evaporator has failed, which can cause your windshield to fog up and reduce your visibility while driving — a safety concern for you and your passengers. This is part of a pattern where Honda's AC system components (the condenser and compressor) have also failed in your vehicle. Your dealer has confirmed the issue, but Honda has refused to cover it under warranty despite multiple reports of this part failing.
