Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2003-2012 Honda Accord and Pilot, 2010 Accord Crosstour, 2001-2011 Civic, 2002-2011 CR-V, 2003-2004, 2006-2008 and 2011 Element, 2007 and 2009-2013 Fit, 2010-2012 Insight, 2002-2004 Odyssey, and 2012 Ridgeline vehicles. The front passenger air bag may have been installed incorrectly during replacement.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger frontal air bag module assembly, free of charge. The recall began June 22, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are K1P, and M1O.

The vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are F5F and Q5E.

The steering wheel airbag did not deploy at all, and the side airbags came out but remained folded and did not inflate properly. Police indicated the airbags malfunctioned. THE NOTICE LETTER ALSO SUGGESTED THAT I CAN SCHEDULE THE REPAIR AND GET A LOANER VEHICLE BY TEXTING AT [XXX]. TAKATA RECALL JULY 06, 2019 ABOUT A YEAR AGO MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, BUT IT TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY. IT NEVER CAME BACK ON UNTIL RECENTLY AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS LIT ON THE DASH. MY VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 2009 HONDA CIVIC. THE AIRBAG CODE I GET WHEN I SCAN THE VEHICLE IS A "CODE 33-10 OPEN IN THE LEFT SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG FIRST INFLATOR." AIRBAGS IN VEHICLES SHOULD NOT GO BAD FOR NO REASON ESPECIALLY CURTAIN AIRBAGS. THIS AIRBAG WENT BAD (DEFECTIVE). I WENT ONLINE AND I SAW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES WITH THE SAME ISSUES AS I DO ON HONDA VEHICLES. I WAS ABOUT TO SELL MY CAR AND NOW THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME, THEN I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SELL MY VEHICLE. MY 2009 HONDA CIVIC HAD 115,000 MILES WHEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT FIRST CAME ON IN THE DASH. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40-50 MPH, THE VEHICLE REAR-ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT FILED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED CHEST PAIN AND WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE. THE OTHER TWO PASSENGERS SUSTAINED CONTUSIONS FROM THE SEAT BELTS AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DAMAGED AND SENSED THAT THE AIR BAG DID DEPLOY. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG AND THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. THE SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE AIR BAG SENSOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED THE OWNER RETAINED OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DO THE REPAIRS WITH THE SETTLEMENT AMOUNT FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND LEFT MESSAGES BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOT CALLED BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.

2009 HONDA CIVIC NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT. IN FEB 2019 HE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. FRONT AIRBAGS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED UNDER TAKITA RECALL. I WAS TOLD THE PASSENGER SEAT SIDE AIRBAG HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR "A PART THAT JUST FAILS OVER TIME" AND WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I PAID $1100 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AGAIN AND I FEAR IT IS NOW THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG THAT HAS FAILED AND I WILL HAVE TO PUT ANOTHER $1100 INTO A CAR FOR FAILURE OF A SAFETY PART. THE CAR HAS 112,000 MILES AND I JUST PAID AN ADDITIONAL $1400 FOR REAR BREAKS, SHOCKS, ETC., WHICH I CONSIDER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. I COULD HAVE PUT $3600 DOWN ON A NEW CAR. NOW I AM ALREADY INTO THIS CAR FOR $2500 AND FIXING THE AIRBAG IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. IT NEEDS TO BE DONE. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND HAS NEVER HAD AN AIRBAG DEPLOYED. HONDA EXPLAINED THAT THE CABLE REEL IS A "BAD PART", AND QUOTED REPAIR ESTIMATES AT 700 DOLLARS FOR PART AND SERVICE. HONDA WARNED THAT THERE IS A 50 PERCENT CHANCE THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT. HONDA COMPANY REFUSES TO COVER THE COST AND SERVICE OF REPLACING THE CABLE REEL DUE TO EXPIRED WARRANTY FOR AIRBAG PARTS (2-YEAR WARRANTY). AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT MANY HONDA AUTOMOBILES (ESPECIALLY HONDA CIVICS MANUFACTURED AROUND 2009) ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE AND LIABILITY FOR THE COMPANY TO SELL CARS AND ADVERTISE THEIR PRODUCTS AS DURABLE, WHEN IN FACT SAFETY FEATURES BECOME FAULTY AFTER A FEW YEARS. IT IS CONCERNING THAT HONDA IS SELLING AND MARKETING PRODUCTS WITH COMPROMISED SAFETY SYSTEMS THAT BECOME DEFECTIVE AFTER A COUPLE YEARS OF USE. HE COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL CAR BUT CONTINUED TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS NO BIG DEAL AND IF I HAD ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS TO CALL HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG BUT I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE ME WITH A DATE OF WHEN THIS ISSUE WOULD BE RESOLVED. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS RECALL EFFECTED MANY VEHICLES BUT THIS ISSUE IS NOT BEING RESOLVED AS FAST AS IT SHOULD BE. MY HONDA CIVIC WAS HIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR BY A FORD RANGER PICKUP TRUCK. I WAS DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON A CITY STREET IN SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA AND THE TRUCK WAS HEADING SOUTHBOUND AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN ACROSS THE LANE THAT I WAS OCCUPYING WHEN I WAS HIT. THE DRIVER AIRBAG IN THE TRUCK DEPLOYED, BUT THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG IN MY CIVIC DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS INJURED BY BROKEN GLASS AND IMPACT OF MY LEFT ARM & SHOULDER AGAINST THE DRIVER DOOR. THE IMPACT FOR WAS SUFFICIENT TO BEND BOTH THE A-PILLAR AND B-PILLAR INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I BELIEVE THAT THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG IN MY CIVIC WAS DEFECTIVE. NOTE THAT A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT SINCE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE, AND WAS TOWED TO A CAR STORAGE YARD AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE.

I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE SENSORS ON THE CARS BUT EVERY ANGLE OF THE CAR HAD SOME TYPE OF IMPACT, SO, WHY ONLY TWO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AND BACK WINDOW WHEN THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE CAR AND OF COURSE I WAS THE DRIVER IN THE DRIVER SEAT. MY CONCERN THAT SOMEONE IN THE FUTURE WILL NOT BE AS LUCKY AS ME AND GET SERIOUSLY HURT DUE TO A DEFECT WITH THE AIR BAGS AND SENSORS. IT MAKES ME THINK ABOUT HONDA AND THERE CARS AND I COULD NEVER GET BACK IN A HONDA AGAIN CAUSE NEXT TIME I MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY.
