The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not properly accelerate. Additionally, while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle was shaking abnormally, with an abnormal burning metallic odor outside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition coil for cylinder #2 had melted and a computer failure also occurred. No further information was available. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 85,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, he heard abnormal knocking sounds coming from the engine. The oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled to the nearby gas station where an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the engine had thrown a rod and there were metal shavings in the engine oil. The contact stated the failure increased significantly while driving at 50 MPH. The contact veered to the side of the road and unlocked the doors. Another driver informed the contact that there there was a fire underneath the vehicle. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. There were no injuries sustained. The contact stated upon towing the vehicle there was a significant amount of oil leaked from the oil pan onto the tow truck vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine blew up and had shattered. The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced and additional repairs needed to be completed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO 2 VERY REPUTABLE SERVICE SHOPS (AND PAID THEM TO FIX IT), AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPAIR IT. I DON'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHEN THE PROBLEM ACCURED, JUST ONE DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID IT MIGHT BE THE FUEL FLAP. AS TIME WENT ON NOTHING SEEMED TO NOT BE WORKING. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC TODAY AND TURNS OUT THE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET IS CRACKED. CALL FORD AND TEY WANT ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. PROBLEM IS THIS IS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM NOT SOMETHING I HAVE DONE. NOTLIKE THEYVE EVER HONORED A WARRENTY IN THE PAST WITH ME ANY WAY. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TURNIG OFF OUR STREET AND DRIVING A SHORT DISTANE UP OUR DRIVEWAY TO PARK OUTSIDE OUR GARAGE WHEN MY VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD INTO THE GARAGE DOING CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE CONTENTS AND STRUCTURE. I THEN BACKED THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GARAGE TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE.SINCE I HAD THE DISTINCT IMPRESSION THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERPOWERINHG THE BRAKES I DECIDED TO TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS THEN I DETERMINED THAT TONGUE OF THE BOAT TRAILER HAD SEVERED THE FILTER ON THE VEHICLE ENGINE SPURTING THE CONTENTS OF THE OIL SUMP ON THE DRIVEWAY AND THE TRAILER WAS IMPALED IN THE GRILL OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS ALSO OBSERVED THAT THE TRAILER HAD PROPELLED THE HIGH PRESSURE WASHER STORED ALONGSIDE IT WHEN THE TRAILER WAS PULLED FROM THE GARAGE BY THE VEHICLE.07

WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON EXIT RAMP FROM HIGHWAY TRAVELING AROUND 45 MPH WHEN ENGINE AND POWER SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO STEER AND STOP THE CAR (POWER STEERING HAD SHUT OFF). RADIO REMAINED ON, BUT DASHBOARD DISPLAY WAS OFF. ONCE CAR WAS STOPPED, CAR RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. SEVERAL SIMILAR REPORTS ABOUT FORD ESCAPES WITH THIS PROBLEM JUST WITHIN THE PAST FEW MONTH. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS NO WARNING LIGHTS AND AT HIGH SPEED. COULD BE RELATED TO ONGOING NHTSA INVESTIGATION (DP15-001) OPEN SINCE 2015 WITH NO RESOLUTION. NO PREVIOUS HISTORY OF PROBLEMS AND CAR WAS SERVICED LESS THAN ONE MONTH AGO.

WHEN SLOWING DOWN, VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND COMES TO A STOP. THE ONLY WAY TO RESTORE POWER IS TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET HIT SEVERAL TIMES. ALTHOUGH IT OCCURRED RARELY AT FIRST, NOW IT IS OFTEN . I SAW THE THROTTLE BODY RECALL ON THIS MODEL AND IT DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE RECALL IS EXPIRED. "ENGINE RECALL" I HAVE A 2011 FORD ESCAPE & AFTER 7 MONTHS OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS HEADED HOME FROM WORK ON I95 THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT MORNING I GOT UP TO GO TO WORK AND THE ESCAPE WOULD NOT CRANK UP AT ALL IT DID NOT MOVE. FROM THE TIME I HAD THIS VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT START ON SOME DAYS SO IT WAS NO GOOD WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IT ONLY HAS 65000 MILES ON IT. THE CAMSHAFT & CRANKSHAFT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THAT PART OF THIS VEHICLE. I DROVE IT FOR 7 MONTHS & THERE WAS DAYS IT DIDN'T WANT TO START. I WASTED MY HARD EARNED CASH ON THIS PIECE OF JUNK AND NOW I DONT HAVE A CAR TO RIDE TO WORK. FORD NEED TO RECALL THIS ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR I SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AND THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED.NO WARNING, SHAKING OR DECREASE IN SPEED. IT JUST STOPPED I TRIED RESTARTING BUT IT WOULDNT START UNTIL 10MINS LATER. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO PROBLEMS OR LIGHTS ON THE DASH BUT AFTER I LEFT (THEY COULDN'T SEE THE CAR UNTIL 4 DAYS LATER) LEAVING THE LOT THE ENGINE SEEMED TO STALL OFF AND ON FOR THE 5 MILE TRIP SO I WOULD PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHEN I WOULD COME TO A LIGHT AND COAST TO A STOP, THEN RESTART. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT. ALSO THE RPM 'S ON THE DASH WOULD GO UP TO 4-5 BUT MY ENGINE SPEED WOULD BE 40 MPH THIS SCARED ME SO BAD, I PARKED THE CAR UNTIL THE APPOINTMENT AT THE DEARLERSHIP WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC BUT KNOW CODES CAME UP. IN 2014, FORD RECALLED THE VEHICLE TO 'RECALIBRATE' THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE TO TO PREVENT ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) FAILURE, BUT IN AUGUST 2016, THE VEHICLE SUFFERED ETB FAILURES RESULTING IN AN EXTREMELY LIMITED ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, ROUGH IDLE AND NOTICEABLE POWER LOSS. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST HIGHWAYS (95) IN AMERICA WHERE TRAFFIC WAS CONGESTED BUT MOVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, AND A LOSS OF POWER WAS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AS I WAS UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC AND/OR MERGE ONTO ANOTHER HIGHWAY (66) AT A HIGH ENOUGH RATE OF SPEED. THE FAILURES CONTINUED TO HAPPEN ANYTIME THE VEHICLE WAS ON A HIGHWAY GOING BETWEEN 60-70 MPH. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD AS EARLY AS THEIR SCHEDULE WOULD PERMIT, BUT FORD WAS UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE AT THE TIME BECAUSE THE PART WAS ON "NATIONAL BACK ORDER" AND SIMPLY ADVISED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER AND RESTART THE ENGINE TO "RESET" THE THROTTLE BODY. SUCH ADVICE WAS UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS. LIVING IN A HIGHLY CONGESTED AREA WHERE SOME HIGHWAYS AND TOLL BRIDGES DO NOT HAVE SHOULDERS TO PULL OVER ON NULLIFIED FORD'S INTERIM REMEDY. THEY WERE CLEARLY NOT CONCERNED ABOUT ANY DRIVER'S SAFETY WHILE WAITING FOR PARTS TO COME IN AS THEY DID NOT EVEN OFFER ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE IN THE MEANTIME.

MY MECHANIC SUGGESTED I RESEARCH FORD ESCSPES, AS HE NOTED THEIR ENGINE & TRANSMISSION FAILURES ARE WELL KNOWN. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED ON 10-03-15. ON 10-17-15, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR STALLED AND JERKED WHEN I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND WHEN IT WAS IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. I CALLED FORD AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $110 JUST TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG AND THAT WOULD NOT GO TOWARD REPAIRS. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO DID A SYSTEM CHECK AND SAID IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT TIMER. IT WAS REPLACED BUT THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP WHERE I WAS TOLD I HAD TO HAVE THE VVT SOLENOID TIMER AND THE IGNITION COIL REPLACED. HE SAID THE ENGINE OIL BURNED THESE ITEMS. I ONLY HAVE MY OIL CHANGED BY FORD. I HAD JUST REACHED 60,130 MILES ON MY VEHICLE, SO THERE WAS NO WARRANTY. I THINK THIS WAS AN EXPENSE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED, ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS AN OIL ISSUE.

WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT WERE ABOUT TO STALL. I PRESSED THE CLUTCH AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL, BUT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE (WHICH HESITATED TO CATCH FOR SEVERAL SECONDS). UPON THE VEHICLE STARTING, I AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. AT FIRST THE VEHICLE SEEMED OK, BUT SHORTLY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT INCIDENT, HOWEVER THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED AND IT READ ERROR CODE P2111. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT GIVE ME PROBLEMS AGAIN UNTIL AUGUST 20, 2015. AS I ACCELERATED FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE VEHICLE AGAIN LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE (THOUGH IT DID NOT STALL). I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISENGAGE THE ENGINE. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, AND WITH A HESITATED "CATCH" THE ENGINE RESTARTED. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN EXISTING AND KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FORD (NHTSA PE13003), HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY MY LOCAL DEALER AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THE WARRANTY EXTENSION OFFERED UNDER THAT INVESTIGATION DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE (WHICH FALLS WITHIN ALL OF THE GUIDELINES FOR YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, AND MILEAGE).

IT SEEMS THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT THESE FILTER BAGS BURST AND FLOOD THE ENTIRE AC SYSTEM WITH THE BALLS (AKA "DEBRIS") WHICH CAUSES ALL THE PARTS TO FAIL AND OR CLOG. MANY OF THE PARTS CAN'T BE EFFECTIVELY FLUSHED SO THEY HAVE TO BE REPLACED." IT WAS HESITATING CONSISTENTLY AFTER WE PUT 5,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT STARTED HESITATING/ REVVING RPMS AT STOP/JUMPING/ACCELERATING THEN ENGINE WOULD JUST SHUT OFF AND POWER AS WELL. FINALLY STALLED ON JOINT BASE LEWIS MCCHORD, WA (WHERE WE ARE STATIONED AND LIVE) AND MY HUSBAND COULD NOT GET IT TO START. THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" WAS ALSO THEN SHOWING. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP (LAKEWOOD FORD). WE HAD A PLATINUM WARRANTY WE PAID EXTRA FOR WITH OUR MONTHLY PAYMENTS. EVEN WITH THAT WE STILL HAD TO GET AN AER (ARMY EMERGENCY RELIEF) LOAN FOR THE DIFFERENCE (APPX. $187.00) THAT WAS NOT COVERED. WE WERE ENTITLED TO RENTAL CAR COVERAGE BUT THE FORD DEALERSHIP DID NOT CONTACT OUR WARRANTY COMPANY IN TIME SO WE WERE WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 4 DAYS. THAT WAS BARELY 3 MONTHS AGO. THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY REGULATOR. AGAIN...HERE IT IS LESS THAN 3 MONTHS SINCE THAT WAS REPLACED AND WE ARE ONLY GETTING 18.2 MILES TO THE GALLON. VEHICLE LOSES POWER DURING OPERATION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE ENGINE REVERTS TO IDLE, REVVING BELOW 1000RPM. DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT ON ENGINE RPM OR SPEED. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT COMES ON, BUT WITHOUT ANY CODE STORED. IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON, THE ENGINE RELUCTANTLY STARTS, AND THE PROBLEM IS NOT PRESENT, BUT THE PROBLEM SOON APPEARS (WITHIN SECONDS). AFTER SEVERAL INCIDENTS TODAY ON MY WAY TO THE AUTO SHOP, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CODE: P2111, "BINDING THROTTLE BODY - STUCK OPEN" AND "TACM OPEN OR SHORTED". TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE AUTO SHOP, THEY TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WAS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THIS IS CURRENTLY BEING DONE AS THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS PRESENT CONDITION. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE, ABOUT A MONTH AGO, AND I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, BUT SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A THROTTLE OR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, AS THEY HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO THIS. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO STORED CODE FOR THE "WRENCH" LIGHT. THEY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE BUT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. AT THAT TIME THEY WOULD BEGIN REPLACING PARTS UNTIL THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY AS THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WITH THE INFORMATION PROVIDED, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I CALLED A FORD DEALER AND A TRUSTWORTHY REPAIR SHOP - AND THEY BOTH POINTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY IN THE FUEL SYSTEM - WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I HAD A NEW THROTTLE BODY INSTALLED AFTER A FORD DEALER HOOKED UP DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT AND VERIFIED THE ISSUE. REPAIR COST WAS $513.68 PARTS AND LABOR. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION - AND A RECALL OF THE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THIS PART, SHOULD BE HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY. AT APPROX. 19,800 MILES WAS DRIVING ALONG THE INTERSTATE AND THE ESCAPE STARTED LOSING POWER. I WENT FROM RUNNING 75 MPH TO 40 MPH. THE ESCAPE NOW HAS APPROX. 33,000 MILES AND IS A TOTAL NIGHTMARE. AS OF APRIL 28, 2013 IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A TOTAL OF 46 DAYS AND HAS HAD 8 REPAIR ATTEMPTS. NO WARNING LIGHTS NOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS EVER COME ON. THIS ESCAPE CLUNKS, SURGES, LOSES POWER, CUT'S OFF AND AT TIMES WILL NOT EVEN CRANK. THE TRANSMISSIONS HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED, THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASY - THROTTLE BODY AIR INTAKE HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE VAPOR MANAGEMENT VALVE HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE TORQUE CONVERTOR HAS BEEN REPLACED. LOST IN ARBITRATION WITH THE BBB BECAUSE FORD SAID IN THEIR LAST REPAIR ATTEMPT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS OPERATING AS NORMAL. JUNE 5, 2013 CAR WAS BACK IN SHOP BECAUSE AT 7:45 AM STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE RPM'S SURGED UP TO 4000, COULD HARDLY KEEP IT FROM RUNNING THE LIGHT, ONCE THE LIGHT CHANGED TOOK OFF AND WITHIN 4 TENTHS OF A MILE LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. IT TOOK ME 8 MINUTES TO GET IT TO CRANK, DROVE ABOUT 15 MILES, SURGING ALL THE WAY, AND THE CAR DIED AGAIN, TAKING ME 10 MINUTES TO GET IT TO CRANK. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SHOP, THEY KEPT IT FOR 7 DAYS, RETURNED IT AND SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. JUNE 20, 2013 TRIED TO CRANK THE CAR AT 10:00 AM, IT WOULD CRANK, BUT GO DEAD, FINALLY AT 11:10 AM IT STAYED CRANKED, DROVE AT 3 TENTHS OF A MILE, CAR GOES DEAD. TAKES ME 5 MINUTES TO RE-CRANK WENT STRAIGHT TO THE SHOP. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND FORD NEEDS TO RE-CALL.

MY CAR IS AT THE SHOP NOW, I AM WAITING ON THE COST TO HAVE MY ABOUT 2 YEAR OLD CAR FIXED SO I CAN DRIVE IT AGAIN. I HAVE READ 23 PAGES OF COMPLAINS ON THIS SITE, MORE THAN HALF IS THE SAME ISSUE I HAD WITH MY CAR. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON RT. 80 IN NJ AT ABOUT 70 MPH IN THE FAST LANE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS NO POWER. I WOULD HIT THE GAS AND NOTHING. FORTUNATELY, MY STEERING AND BRAKING WAS NOT AFFECTED AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER AND TURN THE TRUCK OFF. BEFORE THAT, I NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS LIT ON THE DASHBOARD. I SAT FOR A MINUTE WHILE I LOOKED IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL TO SEE WHAT THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS FOR AND IT SAID THROTTLE. I TURNED IT BACK ON AND AFTER A BRIEF HESITATION, IT TURNED OVER. I PULSED THE GAS TO MAKE SURE IT WAS WORKING, THEN SLOWLY MERGED BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY WERE VERY NICE AND ASKED ME TO BRING IT IN ASAP. SINCE I WAS ALMOST AT WORK, I SAID I'D CALL HIM BACK AND WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP NEAR MY OFFICE. THERE I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A "KNOWN ISSUE" AND EVEN IF IT WAS WHAT HE "THOUGHT" IT WAS, HE WAS NASTY AND SAID "THERE AREN'T ANY PARTS AVAILABLE ANYWAY..." I ASKED HIM IF THE TRUCK WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND HE HESITATED AND SAID "YEAH...IT SHOULD BE AND THAT IT IS A "SPORADIC" ISSUE." I LEFT THAT DEALERSHIP AND DROVE TO MY OFFICE. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP BACK AND TOLD THEM THIS. THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY (SATURDAY) AND THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ME. THIS DEALERSHIP (MAGARINO IN SUSSEX, NJ) IS AMAZING! THEY ARE HELPFUL, TRULY CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND MADE SURE THAT MY TRUCK WAS SAFE BEFORE I LEFT. EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, THEY STILL MADE THE TIME TO GET ME IN! THEY DID HAVE THE PART IN STOCK, RAN ALL THE NECESSARY TESTS, REPLACED THE PART AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER SO THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE OK. $400 LATER (PART NOT UNDER WARRANTY), I WAS HEADING HOME. I HOPE THIS HELPS THE POSSIBLE RECALL INVESTIGATION SO THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS TO GO THROUGH THE TERRIFYING AND HOPELESS FEELING THAT I HAD THIS PAST FRIDAY. *TR

I PAID TO HAVE IT CLEANED OUT AND FOR A GAS ADDITIVE TO DECREASE THE LIKELIHOOD THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, MY ESCAPE STALLED AGAIN IN THE SAME WAY AND WITH THE SAME RESULTS. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW SINCE MAY 2ND. I REALIZE THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY IN FORD ESCAPES INCLUDING THE 2011 MODEL. WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE SITUATIONS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO BE IN CURB LANES AND ABLE TO MANEUVER SAFELY OFF THE ROAD EACH OF THE TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTO STORE TO HAVE BATTERY CHANGED. JUST A WEEK LATER THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE SURGES WERE MORE EVIDENT AFTER I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE WOULD START DECELERATING AND LOOSING POWER WHILE I WAS FLOORING THE GAS EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. I BECAME NERVOUS ABOUT THIS WHERE I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE CHECKED OUT AT FORD WHERE I WAS THEN TOLD THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY DEVICE. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE MIGHT BE A NATIONAL RECALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE NO WARNINGS WERE GIVEN ABOUT THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBLE DANGERS WITH THESE OCCURRENCES. WHEN IT STALLED ON THE FREEWAY I WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH AND HAD TO PULL OFF INTO THE GRASS -- HIT SOMETHING AND BLEW A FRONT TIRE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER CHANGING THE FRONT TIRE IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP BUT ONLY MADE IT 45 MINUTES BEFORE STALLING AGAIN (THIS TIME AT 45 MPH AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD). WHILE SITTING AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY...NO WARNING OR NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. LAST NIGHT, I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO COAST AND STALL. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO THE NORMAL SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR DUPLICATING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED A CONSUMER REPRESENTATIVE WILL CONTACT HIM WITHIN THE NEXT TWO DAYS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,800.
