3/28/2021 MILEAGE 138141, 1 DAY AFTER FILLING TANK NOTICED STRONG ORDER OF GASOLINE COMING FROM UNDER CAR AND GASOLINE LEAKING OUT OF TOP OF TANK WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. TRACKED SOURCE OF LEAK TO A 1 INCH CRACK IN TOP OF TANK ABOUT 2 INCHES FORWARD AND TO THE LEFT OF THE FUEL PUMP WHERE THE TANK HEIGHT CHANGES AND GETS TALLER, APPEARS TO BE STRESS CRACK. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR CODES PRESENT. THIS YEAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A STEEL TANK NOT PLASTIC. REPLACEMENT TANK DISCONTINUED BY FORD, SOURCED AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT.

PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A BUSINESS WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED CAUSING THE CAR TO JUMP THE CURB AND SIDE SWIPE A BRICK COLUMN BEFORE HITTING A BENCH BY THEN I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION STOPPING THE CAR. CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND THE PROPERTY
WHEN PUSHING THROTTLE, ENGINE HESITATES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO DEALER BEFORE, BUT THEY SAY THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I SUSPECT THROTTLE BODY BUT NOW NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH UNDER RECALL. I BELIEVE TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD. 48000 MILES.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK IN A BUSY INTERSECTION THE CAR LOST THE ABILITY TO MOVE BUT NOT THE POWER CAR CAME TO A STOP SHUT OFF CAR AND IT STARTED BUT WAS RIDING ROUGH. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON MY WAY HOME . WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. MY BROTHER WHO HAS BEEN A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FOR THIRTY YEAS DIAGNOSED THE CAR AND IT SAID THROTTLE BODY VALVE STUCK OPEN.I DID NOT GET HURT BUT IF I HAD BEEN ON A HIGHWAY OR IN FASTER TRAFFIC I COULD HAVE. I THINK OTHERS SHOULD BE WARNED. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING FROM MONACO FORD IN GLASTONBURY WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR THE AND MY ADDRESS IS THE SAME AS WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW. INTERMITTENT ROUGH IDLE/STALLING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AS WELL AS HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING AT ALL SPEEDS. THROTTLE BODY REPLACED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN ISSUE FIRST PRESENTED LAST YEAR; SYMPTOMS PERSIST WITHOUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT; INDEPENDENT MECHANIC UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE/REPRODUCE ISSUE. ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR THE LAST TWELVE MONTHS WITHOUT RESOLUTION.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SHAMALEY FORD (11301 GATEWAY BLVD W, EL PASO, TX 79936, (915) 591-8600) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL HOSE FOR THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

THE 2010 TO 2012 HAS A RECALL INVOLVING THE FUEL SYSTEM LEAKING. MY VEHICLE IS ALSO LEAKING FUEL EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED (NO, WE DO NOT "TOP OFF"), AND THE FUMES ARE NOTICEABLE IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE APPROXIMATELY 90,000 MILES.

THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 192,000.
PURCHASED USED 2009 ESCAPE IN APRIL 2016. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND GAS LEAKS OVER TIRE WELL WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED ALL THE WAY. TOOK IT IN AND UPON SMOKE TEST DEALERSHIP STATED THE TOP OF THE TANK IS RUSTED WITH PINHOLES. TRYING TO CHARGE ME $1600 TO REPAIR WITH THE FILLER PIECE. NOT DISCLAIMED UPON PURCHASE. CAR WAS INSPECTED PRIOR TO PURCHASE.
GAS TANK. LOTS OF CORROSION WHERE FILLER NECK CONNECTS TO THE GAS TANK. WHEN GAS TANK IS FULL GAS LEAKS FROM THE CORROSION POINT. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE WHEN I NOTICED A STRONG GAS ODOR. I MOVED THE VEHICLE TO THE DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED A WET SPOT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR THAT REEKED OF GAS. THE SPOT CORRESPONDS TO THE AREA BELOW THE GAS TANK FILLER. I'M CONCERNED THE LEAKING GAS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD AND ALSO CONCERNED THE LEAKING GAS MAY IGNITE CAUSING A FIRE AND POSSIBLE EXPLOSION. HELP!!!
MY FORD ESCAPE HAS INTERMITTENT STALLING OR SEEMS LIKE LOSS OF POWER, CAR WILL STAY ON BUT SEEM LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL. IF TRYING TO GIVE IT GAS IT DOES NOT RESPOND. ONCE TURNED OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN IT WORKS LIKE NORMAL UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. IT CAN HAPPEN AT TAKE OFF OR WHILE ON THE FREEWAY GOING WITH THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC ALL OF A SUDDEN. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS NOTHING BUT AS TIME HAS PASSED IT HAS BECOME MORE REGULAR AND NOW I AM HAVING TO GET IT REPAIRED.
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LEAKING FUEL SINCE FEB. 2016 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I'VE REPLACED THE EVAP. CANISTER DUE TO THE LEAK, THE SEAL WITH IT AS WELL, AND THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE. ALL THIS WORK WAS DONE AT 2 DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS. I WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL AND WROTE TO FORD WHO TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD FIX IT GRATIS. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE GASKET GOING INTO THE TANK AND THAT "SHOULD" TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T. GAS FUMES STILL FILLED MY CAR, AND LEAKED GAS ALL OVER THE GROUND WHEREVER I DROVE OR PARKED. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM I WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL, BUT NO ENGINE LIGHT AS IN THE LAST VISIT. THEY COULD SMELL IT AND SEE IT HAD SOAKED THE REAR END OF MY VEHICLE. THIS TIME THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE IS A PLASTIC RING AROUND THE TOP OF THE TANK THAT WAS CRACKED AND I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TANK AND SYSTEM FOR APPROXIMATELY $1000 ADDITIONAL ON TOP OF WHAT I HAD ALREADY REPLACED. I ASKED HIM HOW ALL THESE MECHANICS COULD MISS THIS?? AND HOW CAN IT CRACK IF IT'S SO TIGHT IN THERE UNLESS THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR IS THERE A DESIGN FLAW, OR A FAILURE OF THE PART ITSELF BECAUSE OF SOME PROBLEM IN MANUFACTURING. THE CAR LEAKS WHILE PARKED, IN MOTION, AND FILLS WITH GAS FUMES. I AM TERRIFIED I MAY HIT A POT HOLE AND BLOW UP. MYSELF I DON'T MIND, BUT I HAVE MY 2YO GRANDSON WITH ME AND THAT IS JUST SCARY AS ALL GET OUT. AND THERE IS NO ENGINE LIGHT THAT COMES ON FOR THIS. HE TELLS ME THE PART SEALS AS THE SYSTEM COMPRESSES WHEN STARTING AND THE GAS EXPANDS WITH HEAT THAT'S WHY THE OVERFLOW.THAT MAY EXPLAIN SOME, BUT I LOSE A TANK OF GAS EVERY 2-4 DAYS. IF THE BREAK IS AT THE TOP HOW IS THE GAS LEAVING MY TANK IN SUCH EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNTS? AND THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO SERVICED THAT CAR WERE FORD "MECHANICS".COMPUTER ILLITERATE FOR UPLOADS, BUT I HAVE DOCUMENTATION& PICS
I HAD MY EVAP CANISTER LEAK WHICH I PAID TO HAVE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES AGO ON THIS VEHICLE DUE TO A GAS LEAK. NOW I'VE BEEN TOLD THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE SEAL BECAUSE IT IS LEAKING FUEL AROUND THIS EVAP CANISTER AND IT'S A "CLOSED" SYSTEM. THEY CLAIM THE SEAL BLEW BECAUSE OF THE SYSTEM WHEN THEY PUT IN THE NEW EVAP CANISTER. THEY OFFERED TO DO THIS FOR AN ADDITIONAL $178.60 AT FORD'S QUICK LANE SERVICE. WHEN THEY REPLACED THE EVAP CANISTER WHY DIDN'T THEY REDO THE SEAL THEN? THEY CLAIM IT DIDN'T SHOW ON THE CODES IN THE COMPUTER. YET THE GAS SMELL NEVER WENT AWAY AND I FOUND GAS UNDER MY VEHICLE EVERYDAY FROM BEFORE AND SINCE THE "REPAIR" OF THE EVAP CANISTER. I WAS AWAY AND WHEN I RETURNED I CALLED THEM AND TOOK IT IN AND THAT'S WHEN I WAS GIVEN THIS INFORMATION. THEY ALSO TELL ME OTHER INTERNAL SEALS CAN ALSO GO WHEN THEY CHANGE THIS EVAP CANISTER. I GET THE "PRIVILEGE" OF PAYING THEM EACH TIME THEY DO A REPAIR TWICE! ONE FOR WHATEVER THEY REPLACED THE EVAP CANISTER WHICH THEY SWEAR WAS THE ONLY PROBLEM AND THEN WHEN IT DIDN'T RESEAL THE SYSTEM THE SEAL BLEW. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THEY COULDN'T HAVE SEEN OR KNOWN ABOUT THIS SEAL FROM THIS HAPPENING BEFORE. AND EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T OR COULDN'T, WHY WASN'T THE SEAL REPLACED AS A PRECAUTION TO THEIR SEALED SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE IS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE, AND IT HAS BEEN IN THEIR SHOP FOR MORE REPAIRS THAN I CARE TO REMEMBER. EVERY TIME THEY FIX ONE PROBLEM ANOTHER ONE MIRACULOUSLY APPEARS WITHIN 100 MILES OR SO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS RUSTED. IN ADDITION, IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO IDLE DURING DRIVING MODE. THE VEHICLE WOULD "LIMP ALONG" WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE TO PRESSING DOWN THE ACCELERATOR. TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN STARTING IT AGAIN WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR A WHILE UNTIL IT OCCURRED AGAIN.
CAR SPUTTERED OUT AS I PULLED INTO TRAFFIC.
THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE PROBLEM HAPPENED WERE IMMEDIATELY AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, GOING TO WORK. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE AND ACCELERATED. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE CAR LOST POWER AND SLOWED--PUTTED ALONG AS IF IT WERE RUNNING ON 2 CYLINDERS. I STOPPED, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED PERHAPS 20-30 SECONDS, THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THEN ENGINE THEN RAN FINE, AND I CONTINUTED ON MY WAY. YESTERDAY, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STRUCK 3 TIMES AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. EACH TIME, I TRIED THE ABOVE RESPONSE, AND IT WORKED--FOR A SHORT TIME. I LIVE ABOUT 4 MILES FROM WORK, AND THE PROBLEM AROSE 3 TIMES IN THE APPROX. 15 MINUTES IT TAKES TO DRIVE HOME. MY WIFE MENTIONED THAT THE PROBLEM STRUCK WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE.
I DRIVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE WHICH HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. IN MARCH OF 2015 I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT PUDDLES OF GASOLINE WERE APPEARING UNDER MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS LEAKING. THIS IS ARGUABLY ONE OF THE MOST SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARDS THAT CAN BE FOUND ON A VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY FOR ONE THAT IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. FORD SHOULD HAVE ADEQUATE MEASURES IN PLACE TO PREVENT RUST ON SUCH A CRUCIAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
FORD ESCAPE- PROBLEM WITH "CHECK FUEL INLET" LIGHT AND "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. I TOOK MY CAR (ORIGINAL OWNER) IN THE FIRST TIME AND PAID CLOSE TO $500 TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK RUN TO "FIX" THE ISSUE, ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REOCCUR DAYS LATER. THE "CHECK FUEL INLET" LIGHT USUALLY COMES AND GOES, BUT RECENTLY HAS REMAINED STEADY. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANT ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WILL BE OUT OF MY POCKET. I GOGGLED " FORD CHECK FUEL INLET" AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. EVERYONE KEEPS TAKING THEIR FORD ESCAPE IN TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED, ONLY TO FIND THE LIGHT RETURNS LATER AND THEY ARE PAYING ADDITIONAL FEES FOR MORE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIRS. WAS DRIVING THEN FELT "BACK FIRE" THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I COULDN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL. NEVER LOST CONTROL JUST HIT BRAKES TO TURN ON ROAD AND PULL OVER. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND REVVED THE ENGINE. WENT ANOTHER MILE AND IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BECAUSE I THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD GOTTEN BAD GAS BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. TAKING IT TOO DEALERSHIP FRIDAY JUNE 6TH. *TR
I WAS ON HOV LANE ON LIE DRIVING TO MY PARENTS. AS I WAS COMING OFF TO REG LANE, MY ENGINE STALLED. FORTUNATELY, THE OTHER CAR WAS FAR AWAY ABLE TO STOP. I CHANGED GEAR INTO PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND TRUCK HAD A MOMENTARY LOSS OF POWER, LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING FUEL. DID NOT STALL AND WE CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD. IT HAPPENS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND SOMETIMES ONCE AND OTHER TIMES MULTIPLE TIMES. GEAR AND SPEED DO NOT APPEAR TO BE A FACTOR. ON TWO OF THE WORST CASES THE POWER TRAIN / THROTTLE CONTROL "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED, BUT OF COURSE AFTER TURNING OFF VEHICLE AND STARTING IT BACK UP AND DRIVING TO DEALERSHIP, THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE. NOTHING WAS FOUND THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TAKEN IN. THE SECOND TIME I PRESSED THEM ABOUT IT AND THEY CAME BACK WITH OVER $975.00 WORTH OF NEEDED REPLACEMENT PARTS (THROTTLE BODY, MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, FUEL INJECTOR FLUSH AND SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT @ 56,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION WITH A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND WOULD NOT STOP, DESPITE MY FRANTIC EFFORTS TO BRAKE THE CAR; I SWERVED TO MY RIGHT, WENT THROUGH 6 INCHES OF SNOW ON GRASS CURB AND THEN WENT UP A 5 FT. ICE BANK, WHERE MY WHEELS JAMMED IN THE ICE AND I STOPPED, SITTING AT NEARLY A 45 DEGREE ANGLE, 5 FT. ABOVE THE ROAD. MY FRONT BUMPER WAS MANGLED IN THE ICE BANK AND MY PASSENGER-SIDE MIRROR WAS BROKEN OFF BY A STOP SIGN. IF NOT FOR THE SNOW BANK, I WOULD HAVE CONTINUED INTO THE VERY BUSY INTERSECTION, WHERE I AND OTHER DRIVERS WOULD HAVE UNDOUBTEDLY BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT DESPITE HITTING THE BRAKE, THE CAR WITH UNINTENDED ACCELERATION PROBLEM, DID NOT STOP, IT KEPT GOING UNTIL HITTING THE SNOW-ICE BANK. *TR
I FIRST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN SEP 2010. THE PROBLEM WAS WHEN I WAS STOPPED OR MADE A TURN COASTING SLOWLY, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THE ENGINE DID NOT KICK IN FOR A SECOND OR TWO. WHEN IT DID IT JERKED HARD AND FELT LIKE IT SLAMMED INTO GEAR. THE DEALER COULD NEVER ID THE PROBLEM AND PUT IT OFF AS NORMAL. THEN VERY RECENTLY I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. IT KEEPS THE RPM'S AT AN IDLING LEVEL BUT DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL-LIKE YOU PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW. WHEN I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT APPEARS TO SELF CORRECT. THIS HAPPENS WHILE I'M DRIVING SLOWLY ONCE AND AGAIN WHEN I WAS AT A STOP AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE. AFTER STOP, ENGINE SOMETIMES STARTS, SOMETIMES REQUIRES LONGER WAIT TIME TO START... VEHICLE STILL UNDER 5 YEAR 50 K WARRANTY, TAKEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP.... THEY WANT $ 440 TO FIX THE PROBLEM.... BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
MY CAR LOST ACCELERATION IN AN INTERSECTION GOING ABOUT 15 MPH. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING SLOW AND ROUGH. THE THROTTLE HAD NO EFFECT ON ENGINE SPEED. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF ROUGH IDLING, THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND I WAS THEN ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN FAULT WITH THE FORD ESCAPE AND COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTS. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM ON THE ESCAPE. *TR
TRAVELING AT APPROX 5-10 MILES AN HOUR. PULLING OUT OF STOP SIGN. VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING FELT LIKE IT STALLED. COULD NOT ACCELERATE. I COASTED TO CURB AND PUT IN PARK. A WARNING LIGHT ON DASHBOARD SHOWED A YELLOW WRENCH. I TURNED CAR OFF. WAITED 30 SECONDS. STARTED AND LIGHT WAS OFF, CAR NORMAL. TOOK TO DEALER. DIAGNOSTIC CODE SAID ELECTRONIC THROTTLE. ENGINE SHUT OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART VEHICLE, CAR WOULD REV BUT NOT RESPOND WITH ANY ACCELERATION. DURING THIS TIME INCREDIBLY LOUD HARSH SHIFTING OCCURRED , SOUNDED AS THOUGH TRANSMISSION FELL OUT OF CAR. DEALERSHIP REPLACED DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY, CURRENTLY STILL INVESTIGATING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *TR
DRIVE SOUTH ON I-95 AT RUSH HOUR HEADING HOME. WITH NO WARNING ENGINE POWER JUST GOES AWAY, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE GAS PEDAL WAS PUSH THERE WAS NO POWER FROM ENGINE, HURRIED AS IT SLOWED DOWN TO THE RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO EXIT. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY FOR MY VEHICLE ONCE BEFORE APPROXIMATELY IN AUGUST 2011. THE CAR WOULD STALL AND THEN TURN OFF. FUEL DIDN'T SEEM TO BE PASSING THRU WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WHEN I WAS AT STOP LIGHTS. OFTEN TIMES, IT TURNED OFF AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT A WHILE FOR IT TO TURN BACK ON. WHEN I WAS AT STOP LIGHTS AND THIS HAPPENED, I WOULD HAVE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE AND THE GAS AT THE SAME TIME TO TRY TO AVOID THE CAR TURNING OFF. I PLACED IT INTO PARK AND IT SPUTTERED JUST PRIOR TO TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 10 MINUTES I THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE DASH INDICATOR DID NOT COME ON, I THEREFORE PROCEEDED AND DROVE IT HOME. BECAUSE THIS OCCURRED LATE EVENING I WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTACT THE DEALER UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING IN THE CENTER LANE ON I-75 AT 65 MPH WHEN MY CAR LOST POWER. THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN BUT HAD NO ACCELERATION. THEIR WERE CARS BESIDE AND BEHIND ME. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. I CUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT, IT ACTED THE SAME. THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT TO THE NEXT EXIT WHICH WAS ABOUT TWO MILES. I FINALLY GOT TO THE EXIT AND CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE PEOPLE THEY HAD NO WAY OF GETTING THE VEHICLE TO THEIR SHOP AND WAS ALSO TOLD I COULD CALL OR THEY WOULD CALL FOR ME A TOW TRUCK. I CALLED SEVERAL PLACES AND FINALLY FOUND A PRIVATE GARAGE THAT WAS AVAILABLE TO COME AND PICK ME AND THE VEHICLE UP. THEY TOLD ME WHILE LOADING THE VEHICLE ON THE TOW TRUCK THAT THEY HAD THE EQUIPMENT TO CHECK IT OUT AND REPAIR IT. THEY CONTACTED ME AFTER CHECKING THE SYSTEM OUT AND STATED THAT THE DRIVE BY WIRE WAS BAD AND THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY NEEDED CLEANING. TO MADE A LONG STORY SHORT AFTER THE TOW BILL, PARTS AND LABOR TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE IT COST ME 747.38. I FEEL THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME OF THE EXPENSES IF NOT ALL. THEY SHOULD AT LEAST HAVE A RECALL AND CHECK THIS PART FOR MALFUNCTION BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED FROM THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THIS WAS A TERRIBLE INCIDENT AND I WAS RELIEVED TO MAKE IT SAFELY OFF THE ROAD. *TR

I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP AND THEY CHECKED NORMAL ISSUES THAT WOULD CAUSE THE ESCAPE TO RANDOMLY SHUT OFF AND DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. THEN I DID RESEARCH AND DETERMINED THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UPON THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS SAME ISSUE HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES, OF WHICH THE MOST RECENT WAS IN JULY AND SEPTEMBER. *TR
LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND/OR POWER. GAS PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND. AFTER A FEW SCARY MOMENTS WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD. HAD AN IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG BASED ON A CONVERSATION WITH A PERSON WHO DESCRIBED A SIMILAR SITUATION THAT WAS DO TO A MALFUNCTIONING THROTTLE BODY WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STARTED AND THE COMPUTER RESET ITSELF, AS WAS ALSO DESCRIBED, AND MADE IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHO MADE REPAIRS TO THE THROTTLE BODY. MY CONCERN IS THAT FORD IS VERY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN FOR SOMETIME BUT IS DOING NOTHING TO WARN CONSUMERS OF THE POTENTIAL OF DANGER ASSOCIATED WITH LOSS OF POWER UNDER HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS - THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE AND AT MINIMUM THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE COMPENSATED TO SOME DEGREE FOR WHAT IS, FOR ALL PRACTICABLE PURPOSE, FAULTY PARTS AND DESIGN PROBLEMS THAT ARE ON GOING. LEFT CAR AT FORD BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE THE CHANCE OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN ON A ROAD OR HIGHWAY WITH NO PLACE TO PULL OFF. HAD FORD INSTALL NEW THROTTLE BODY FOR $400 ON 8/10/13. NO MORE ISSUES AND FORD VERBALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS WAS THE ISSUE. OWN TWO 2009 ESCAPES AND BOTH HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND BOTH HAVE REPLACED THROTTLE BODY. CALLED FORD CONSUMER SERVICE AND THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP THE SITUATION. *TR
THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION. THIS IS THE SECOND FORD ESCAPE 2009 THAT I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. BOTH ISSUES OCCURRED WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER. VEHICLE STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN LOSS OF ALL ACCELERATION. WRENCH SYMBOL COMES ON AND HAVE TO PUT CAR IN EMERGENCY LANE. I CAN TURN IT OFF AND THEN IT RESTARTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS WITH NO EMERGENCY LANE AVAILABLE. TRAVELING ALONG A RURAL HIGHWAY, VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS FORCED TO COAST DANGEROUSLY TO A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER, WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE NEARLY HITTING ME FROM BEHIND DUE TO THE SUDDEN LOSS OF SPEED. GAS PEDAL SEEMED TO NOT BE WORKING. ONCE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP, THE CAR HAD AN EXTREMELY ROUGH IDLE. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING, THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE RESET, AND GAS PEDAL WORKED AGAIN, BUT THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY, DANGEROUSLY AGAIN ALONG AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY SHUT DOWN IN A HIGH TRAFFIC METRO AREA AS AN ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. AFTER RESTING ON THE SHOULDER FOR A MINUTE AND SPEAKING WITH ME (HER HUSBAND), I ASKED HER TO TRY AND START THE VEHICLE AGAIN. IT STARTED BACK UP AS NORMAL WITH THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT NOW NOT SHOWING. THE CAR RAN AS NORMAL FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME SAFELY. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK A LOOK AT THE CAR, DID SOME RESEARCH, AND DROVE IT AROUND FOR AWHILE. THE CAR RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES UNTIL IT OCCURRED AGAIN. APPARENTLY THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT MEANS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH EITHER THE POWER TRAIN OR THE THROTTLE BOX. THE VEHICLE SHIFTS GEARS AS NORMAL SO I AM LEFT TO BELIEVE THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BOX (AS I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THE 2009 FORD ESCAPE). *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CEASED RESPONDING BECAUSE POWER TO THE ACCELERATOR WAS LOST. THE CAR COASTED TO A STOP ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTART AND DRIVE IN LOW GEAR A SHORT DISTANCE. BUT AFTER ABOUT 300 YARDS, LOW GEAR CEASED TO WORK AS THERE WAS NO LONGER ANY POWER TO THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACK OFF THE ROAD. I CONSIDER IT FORTUNATE THAT TRAFFIC WAS RELATIVELY LIGHT AND I WAS NOT HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A LINCOLN MERCURY DEALER, WHO ADVISED THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER CODE (P2111) INDICATED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS "BAD", AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO DO BUT REPLACE IT. THEY COULD NOT TELL ME ANY DETAILS AS TO WHAT HAD CAUSED IT TO GO "BAD", AND ADVISED THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DO ANY INVESTIGATION AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE MALFUNCTION. ALL THEY COULD DO WAS SEND THE OLD THROTTLE BODY BACK (PRESUMABLY TO FORD), AND INSTALL A NEW ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FOR AN INSTALLED COST OF $720.24. I COMPLAINED DIRECTLY TO FORD IN DEARBORN, MI (GLOBAL DIRECTOR, AUTOMOTIVE SAFETY OFFICE) BY U.S. MAIL, AND RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL ON 9/5/13 FROM [XXX] AT FORD EXECUTIVE OFFICES ([XXX]). I RETURNED THE CALL AND SHE REQUESTED I SEND A COPY OF MY INVOICE FOR THE THROTTLE BODY INSTALLATION ([XXX]). A FEW DAYS LATER (9/9/13 I BELIEVE) SHE CALLED AND THE BOTTOM LINE WAS ALL FORD WOULD OFFER WAS A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT OF $240, WHICH I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED. SHE ADMITTED NO WRONG (EXCEPT PERHAPS BY INFERENCE OF OFFERING A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT) AND ADVISED FORD COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT I WOULD NOT EXPERIENCE ANOTHER THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION. 7/30/2013 STARTED UP AFTER STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION. ABOUT HALF A BLOCK LATER, I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN IT SPUTTERED, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS AND TURNED IT OFF. IT STARTED RIGHT UP AFTER A FEW SECONDS AND PROCEEDED NORMALLY. ABOUT A MONTH LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT. AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, I ACCELERATED AND THE CAR LOST POWER, THE WRENCH LIT UP AND I COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE AGAIN. AGAIN, IT STARTED RIGHT UP. A WEEK LATER, IT DID THE SAME THING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I PUT ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND COASTED TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD. IT STARTED UP, BUT DID THE SAME THING AFTER A FEW YARDS. I MADE IT VERY SLOWLY INTO A PARKING LOT AND IT STAYED THERE UNTIL THAT EVENING. WHEN I TRIED IT LATER, IT DIED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND I DROVE IT HOME ON THE BACK STREETS LATE AT NIGHT WHEN THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON LINE, I SAW WHAT OTHERS HAD DONE AND HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. THAT WAS 6 DAYS AGO. SO FAR, SO GOOD. HOWEVER, MY CONFIDENCE IS GONE AND I WON'T BE DRIVING IT IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC ANYTIME SOON. *TR
THE CAR WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35MPH AND WITH NO WARNING... I HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND LOST ALL THROTTLE CONTROL. THANK GOODNESS I WAS ON A BACK ROAD WITH NO OTHER CARS. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY OR I WAS PASSING A CAR, HAULING A TRAILER. THE CAR WILL RESET AFTER THE CAR IS OFF FOR A TIME AND WILL WORK AGAIN FOR A SEVERAL MINUTES. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AS SEVERAL OTHER OF THE FORD PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR BUT MY YEAR HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED, YET. I CALLED FORD TO LOOK FOR A RECALL AND I WAS TOLD NONE WERE LISTED BUT THAT SHE TAKES CALLS ALL DAY LONG FOR THIS ISSUE AND COULD EVEN TELL ME THE COST OF THE FIX $500.00 PLUS. *TR
TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 58 DOING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THERE WAS A LUNGE - ACCELERATOR DIDN'T FUNCTION - DRIFTED TO SIDE OF ROAD - VEHICLE WAS IDLING VERY ROUGH. NOTICED THE LITTLE WRENCH WAS LIGHTED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A COUPLE MINUTES - THEN IT STARTED RIGHT UP. THOUGHT IT WAS A GLITCH - APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES FURTHER IT DID IT AGAIN. WASN'T SURE WHAT IT WAS SO I HAD IT TOWED 50 MILES TO MY RESIDENCE. THE NEXT MORNING I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP FROM WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT. TOOK IT IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC - $134.40 ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. ON JUNE 22, 2011 DURING EVENING TRAFFIC IT OCCURRED 5 TIMES WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 8 MILES. THE 5TH TIME I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN - THEY HAD ME BRING IN RIGHT IN. NEXT DAY TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. WELL $406.35 AND TWO YEARS LATER IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN. THREE (3) TIMES IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS -FIRST TIME ON THE INTERSTATE - TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH - IN THE RAIN - MADE MY WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - TURNED IT OFF FOR A COUPLE MINUTES AND STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. LAST WEEK ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD AND TODAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2013 AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A STORE PARKING LOT. FORD NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND HAVE THE VEHICLES RECALLED TO FIX THE ON-BOARD COMPUTER PROBLEM THEY HAVE ADMITTED TO. I AM NOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY TO HAVE THE PARTS REPLACED AGAIN ONLY TO POSSIBLY HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN!! *TR
WHILE EXITING A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED A FEW MINUTES LATER WITH NO APPARENT PROBLEMS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED THE PART.
CAR STARTED SHUTTERING WHILE MAINTAINING A CONSTANT SPEED. CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THROTTLE BODY WAS THE PROBLEM AND THE PART WAS REPLACED.
2009 FORD ESCAPE 40K MILES. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING SLIGHTLY THE IDLE STARTED FLUCTUATING AND THE TACHOMETER STARTED RAPIDLY SPIKING UP AND DOWN AS WELL AS A LOSS OF ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE ALSO IS STALLING. SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING VEHICLE TEMPORARILY FIXES THE PROBLEM. IT WOULD APPEAR IT IS THE SAME THROTTLE BODY ISSUE EVERYONE ELSE IS HAVING. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR MY EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED. *JB
I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW IN 2009. SUMMER OF 2011, IT STARTED DYING WHEN STOPPED AT RED LIGHTS OR ANY STOPS. IT DID THIS MOSTLY WHEN IT WAS .25 TANK OF GAS OR LESS AND THE WARMER THE WEATHER. I TOOK IT TO THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS TRULY WRONG. WHEN THEY PLUGGED IT IN ALL IT SAYS IS EMISSION PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED SO INCONSISTENTLY IT WAS HARD TO EXPLAIN OR DIAGNOSE. I HAD FORD REPLACE A VAPOR SENSOR OF SOME SORT IN SUMMER OF 2012 WHEN IT WAS DOING IT AGAIN. IT HAS NEVER RAN THE SAME SINCE 2011 WHEN I FIRST HAD PROBLEMS. NOW IT IS LOSING POWER AS I DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD. IT LOSES POWER COMPLETELY, YOU PUSH THE GAS AND THERE IS NOTHING AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER OR LET IT ROLL TO A STOP AND IT JERKS OR DIES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT 70 MPH THE RPM DROPPED TO APPROX. 900RPM. PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. A INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON IT IS THE SHAPE OF A WRENCH. I HAD TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. AFTER I PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED ABOUT 30 SECONDS THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE. I WENT BACK ONTO THE ROAD AND DROVE APPROX. 12 MILES AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I REPEATED WHAT I HAD DONE EARLIER AND THE VEHICLE WAS OK AGAIN. I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND I MADE IT AROUND 8 MILES AND I HAD ANOTHER OCCURRENCE, AGAIN I REPEATED THE SHUT OFF THE ENGINE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT AGAIN STARTED AND RAN OK. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND WAS LUCKILY ON A FRONTAGE ROAD WHEN SUDDENLY MY 2009 ESCAPE WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. I PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWN THE HILL AND TURN OFF ONTO A SIDE ROAD. THE WRENCH SYMBOL LIT UP AND MY CAR SPUTTERED AND SHOOK. I SAID A PRAYER, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. I DROVE IT ABOUT A MILE DOWN SIDE STREETS TO TRY AND GET IT TO MY MECHANIC, BUT IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I SAID ANOTHER PRAYER, STARTED THE CAR, TURNED OFF THE A/C AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY MECHANIC W/OUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THEY SAID THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS AND SINCE THE PARTS ARE EXPENSIVE, THEY DIDN'T WANT TO REPLACE THE PART AND NOT HAVE THAT FIX THE ISSUE, SO I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK ($75) AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP. I DIDN'T DARE TRY TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FEAR THAT IT WOULD DIE ON THE WAY THERE AND SINCE THE DEALERSHIP IS LOCATED OFF OF HIGHWAY 75 IN MCKINNEY, I COULDN'T RISK IT DYING ON SUCH A BUSY HIGHWAY W/ MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR WITH ME. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID IT'S AN ISSUE W/ THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. MY CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 58,000 MILES ON IT. AS A SINGLE DIVORCED MOM WHO IS STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET, IT MAKES ME VERY UPSET THAT I HAVE TO SPEND MY HARD EARNED MONEY ($674) ON FIXING SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY AN ONGOING ISSUE W/ THIS MAKE AND MODEL. MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE XLT (THIS IS MY THIRD ESCAPE, AND THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS EVER CAUSED ME ANY PROBLEM) HAS NEVER ACCELERATED AS IT SHOULD, FROM THE DAY I DROVE IT NEW OFF OF THE LOT. IT HAS ALWAYS HESITATED, LURCHED, LUNGED, JERKED; MOST FREQUENTLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A FULL STOP OR A ROLLING STOP. IT HAD NEVER "LIMPED" UNTIL AT APPROXIMATELY 50K MILES, WHEN THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED TWICE WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROX. 50MPH (WRENCH SYMBOL LIT UP). AFTER HAVING THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED BY MY DEALER IN LATE JUNE-EARLY JULY 2013, THE LUNGING, JERKING, HESITATING CONTINUED. ON 8/8/13, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A ROLLING STOP, THE VEHICLE DIED WHILE ATTEMPTING A "MICHIGAN LEFT" ONTO A 4-LANE HIGHWAY (THIS TIME THE BATTERY LIGHT AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON). IF THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAD NOT BEEN GREEN, I WAS AT RISK OF BEING STRUCK BY SEVERAL VEHICLES TRAVELING AT RATES OF SPEED UP TO 70MPH. I WAS ABLE TO LET THE VEHICLE ROLL BACK INTO THE TURN LANE; TURNED IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON; BUT ACCELERATION IS STILL NOT OPERATING AS IT SHOULD. THE RPMS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE. I FEEL AS THOUGH I AM DRIVING A "DEATH TRAP". THIS IS A VERY URGENT ISSUE AND MUST BE ADDRESSED AND REPAIRED BY FORD SWIFTLY AND AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. I HAD TO PAY ALMOST $600 TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED (INCLUDING A RENTAL VEHICLE). THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES, I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART, WHICH IT DID, BUT RAN ROUGH AT IDLE. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES LONGER, RESTARTED AND IT PERFORMED NORMALLY FOR ABOUT TEN MILES. THEN IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING OVER AGAIN. LAST YEAR, IN MY WIFE'S 2010 FORD ESCAPE, THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED, WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND PAID $541.00 (THE REQUESTED FACTORY ASSISTANCE WAS REFUSED). MY HUSBAND AND I WERE IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THIS VERY BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN HE STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE- OUR 2009 FORD ESCAPE DID NOT ACCELERATE- IT STALLED OUT AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. THE WRENCH LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD AND WE HAD TO PRAY THAT WE COULD COAST OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THEN TO THE SHOULDER WHILE TRUCKS WERE ZOOMING BY. WE CALLED AAA FOR A TOW TO THE LOCAL GARAGE. AT LOCAL GARAGE, VEHICLE WAS KEPT FOR 9 DAYS, TEST DRIVING IT, BUT HAD NO INCIDENTS BECAUSE WRENCH LIGHT NEVER WENT BACK ON. WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT FORD WHERE I PURCHASED VEHICLE .I CALLED FORD.THEY COULD NOT SEE ME FOR ANOTHER WEEK. I DROVE VEHICLE DOING ERRANDS- 2 DAYS LATER AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN- TRUCK SPUTTERS AND DIES UPON ACCELERATION. WRENCH LIGHT GOES ON AGAIN. CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND REPAIR IS GOING TO BE OVER $325 (QUOTED) IF OUR REPAIR SHOP CAN GET THE PART. WE HAD NO GAS PEDAL SO I TOLD HER TO LET IT COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN IT OFF. IT CRANKED UP WENT A MILE AND DONE THE SAME THING SO HERE WE ARE STUCK IN MISSISSIPPI WITH NO CAR. *TR
THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON 8 OCCASIONS IN RAPID SUCCESSION. IN ALL INSTANCES, I AM DRIVING ALONG AS USUAL, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY ACCELERATOR BECOMES NON-RESPONSIVE. THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING, BUT I AM QUICKLY LOSING SPEED, I CANNOT ACCELERATE, AND THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV WHEN I PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR. I MUST STOP THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK, TURN IT OFF, AND RESTART THE CAR IN ORDER TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM AND CONTINUE DRIVING. SIMPLY PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, TURNING IT OFF AND RESTARTING IT WILL NOT REMEDY THE SITUATION. *TR
I ACCELERATED FROM A STOPPED POSITION AND IN APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET THE ACCELERATOR STOP WORKING. THE ENGINE DID NOT DIE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY IDLE AT A SLOW PACE. I STOPPED THE CAR, PUT IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED. THE ACCELERATOR WORKED AT THAT TIME AND I CONTINUED ONTO THE HIGHWAY WITH NO PROBLEM. I WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MPH FOR ABOUT 10 MILES WHEN THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO AN IDLE. I REPEATED THE SAME PROCESS AS BEFORE, STOP, PUT IN PARK, TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED. THE ACCELERATOR WORKED AGAIN AND I CONTINUED ON 10 MILES AND MADE IT HOME. THE NEXT AVAILABLE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I EXPERIENCED (2) OF THE SAME SCENERIOS LISTED ABOVE ALONG MY 6 MILE ROUTE TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER (2) DAYS THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY WITH A $574 PRICE TAG TO REPAIR. THE SERVICE PERSON STATED THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR A RECALL ITEM. SHE THEN STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON A "NATIONAL BACKORDER" AND WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR ANOTHER MONTH. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING ALOT!! I HAVE READ SEVERAL ARTICLES ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME TYPE OF ISSUE HAPPENING TO OTHER FORD ESCAPES, VARYING YEARS AND WAS SURPRISED THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. THE INCIDENT STARTED WHEN I WAS OUT OF TOWN, HEADED TOWARD HOME AT APPROIMATELY 11:00 PM. IT COULD HAVE BEEN AN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS SITUATION IF I HAD LOST POWER TRYING TO TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC OR WAS ON A MUCH BUSIER HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HOPE OTHERS ARE AWARE OF THIS WEBSITE. *TR
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON. I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE IS NOTHING. THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING BUT GIVING IT GAS WILL NOT HELP IT TO MOVE. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND PULL OFF ROAD. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. THIS WORKS BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. NOW IT JUST SHUTS DOWN SPORADICALLY. I CANNOT BE SURE WHEN OR WHERE IT WILL HAPPEN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (TOWN AND COUNTRY FORD) AND I AM WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY WHERE I HAVE MY LOAN AND THEY SAID EVEN IF THE PART IS DEFECTIVE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTIES. *TR
WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE FROM DAY ONE. CURRENTLY THE BIG ISSUE IS THE THROTTLE BODY (WHICH I'VE SEEN HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH ALL THE FORD ESCAPES). ALSO THE MASS AIR FLOW SYSTEM, HEATING/AIR, AND SECURITY SYSTEM (ALSO IT HAS A PROBLEM NOT STARTING---NOT SURE IF THAT'S ALSO THROTTLE BODY). IS THIS BEING RECALLED? *TR
I HAD TO GET THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED ON MY 2009 ESCAPE BECAUSE THE CAR ENGINE WOULD DISENGAGE AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD STOP WORKING. THE CAR WOULD COAST TO A STOP AND I WOULD HAVE TO SHUT IT OFF AND CUT IT BACK ON TO GET IT TO RE-ENGAGE. THIS HAPPENED EVER COUPLE OF DAYS FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAS HAD MY CAR FOR ALMOST A MONTH AND CLAIMS THAT THERE WAS A BAD PRODUCTION BATCH THAT CAUSED A NATIONAL BACKLOG OF PARTS. THE CALL CENTER HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE AND FORD IS CLAIMING THAT I HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR THE PART EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR NEARLY A MONTH. *TR
REPEATED INCIDENTS OF STALLING AND ENGINE SURGING. NO WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO THE INITIAL FAILURE OR PRIOR TO SUBSEQUENT FAILURES. *TR
2009 FORD ESCAPE WITH 69,282 MILES SPONTANEOUSLY GOES INTO LIMP MODE, CAUSING DECELERATION IN TRAFFIC. CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL IT IS STOPPED, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, AND FUEL PUMP RESTART BUTTON PUSHED. THE CAR WILL THEN START AND CAN BE DRIVEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES NOW IN THE PAST 12-18 MONTHS. IT HAS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED (60-70 MPH), CITY SPEEDS (35-40 MPH), AND TODAY AT 15 MPH GOING DOWN MY STREET. IT HAS HAPPENED EACH TIME DRIVING ON SMOOTH, PAVED ROADS. ONE INCIDENT WAS DRIVING HOME AT APPROX. 6:45 PM ON SMOOTH, PAVED RURAL HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH AFTER 15-20 MINUTES DRIVING. HAD TO CALL TOW TRUCK AND HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM. ONE INCIDENT WAS NOV 2012 WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH, PAVED HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 60 MPH AFTER DRIVING APPROX. 2 HOURS. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCES WERE 4-4-13 AT 6:45 PM AFTER DRIVING 55-60 MPH FOR 20 MINUTES ON PAVED ROAD. NEXT INCIDENT 4/5/13 AT 11:30 A.M. DRIVING 15 MPH ON RESIDENTIAL STREET, ENGINE COLD. TODAY THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND DESPITE STOPPING THE CAR, PUSHING THE FUEL PUMP RESET, AND RESTARTING THE CAR, IT STILL WILL NOT ACCELERATE AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN. I WILL NOW HAVE TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND, ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, REPAIRS PAID FOR AT MY EXPENSE. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL AND THERE NEEDS TO BE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT HAS GENERATED MANY COMPLAINTS. THE SITUATION IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR ON THE INTERSTATE. AN UNRELIABLE CAR IS NOT WORTH OWNING. THIS IS MY FIRST FORD AND IT WILL BE MY LAST. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER FORD. *TR
THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN. IT STARTED AND THEN STALLED AGAIN. WHEN TESTED BY MY MECHANIC THE CODE CAME UP AS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY I HAD HIM REPLACE THE PARTS AND HAD TO PAY $300.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. *TR
ON 3/29/12 I WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED WORKING, ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND I HAD NO POWER. I PULLED TO THE SIDE, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS NEAR ME, AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I CALLED MY HUSBAND TO COME OVER AND WHEN HE ARRIVED, HE TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. I DROVE IT TO THE FORD DEALER SERVICE CENTER AND THEY DISCOVERED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT WAS DEFECTIVE. SINCE THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY I HAD TO PAY. IN DECEMBER 2012 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND AFTER SEVERAL TIMES I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY (THEY ARE NEVER SURE) THE THROTTLE BODY AGAIN BUT THEY WERE NOT SURE. I PAID FOR A REPLACEMENT AGAIN. IN FEBRUARY 2013 AFTER 2 REPLACEMENTS IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. OF COURSE THEY CANNOT TELL FOR SURE IF IT IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY SO I NOW HAVE A RECORDING DEVICE ATTACHED TO MY CAR SO IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I CAN PRESS THE BUTTON AND IT WILL RECORD WHAT THE ENGINE WAS DOING. MAYBE THEY WON'T HAVE TO GUESS AGAIN?? MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, NOT THEIRS, NOT FORD'S. IS FORD WAITING FOR A FATALITY BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING? *TR
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON BUSY 4 LANE CITY STREET VEHICLE JUST STOPPED RUNNING. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO COAST TO CENTER LEFT TURN LANE BRINGING VEHICLE TO A STOP. VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND HAD TO BE TOWED. DEALERSHIP REPLACED INERTIA SWITCH. CONCERN IS IF FUEL SHUT OFF SWITCH (INERTIA SWITCH) HAD FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WITH LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES IT IS ANY ONES GUESS WHAT THE OUTCOME MAY HAVE BEEN. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, SUDDEN START OR SUDDEN STOP TO CAUSE THE SWITCH TO FAIL. *TR
