POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)
CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 712 MY 2009 SEBRING, DODGE CALIBER, AVENGER, JOURNEY, JEEP PATRIOT, AND COMPASS VEHICLES. A NEW ADHESIVE USED IN THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) MANUFACTURING PROCESS CAN CAUSE THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD TO BREAK.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PCM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 10, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

While driving at 60 mph, your vehicle suddenly lost power and wouldn't accelerate properly, and the transmission refused to shift into the correct gear. Your check engine light came on, and when you pulled over and shut off the engine, the car wouldn't start or run normally afterward. A mechanic found that the engine computer (PCM) had a wiring problem; they replaced the wiring harness, but the issue continued, and the dealer said the computer itself needed to be replaced.

The rear end is going out fuel system is causing a misfire number six and the airbag light is on we have had more problems with it with the power steering starting it when it's cold and it rupturing the hose plus the wiring and the door front door there's wires broke supposedly fixed in 2011 but are broke again every recall if you type in 09 Dodge journey is what's going wrong with mine right now but there's supposedly no recall on it

OUR CURRENT SHORT TERM FIX IS TO JIGGLE THE BATTERY CABLES/WIRING HARNESS AND AFTER 5 MINUTES THAT WORKS. HADN'T HAD THIS ISSUE FOR FIVE YEARS (AS THE OWNER) AND DURING THE PAST YEAR IT'S BEEN ONE NON-START AFTER ANOTHER. DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR AN HOUR WITHOUT A PROBLEM STARTING. STOPPED TO GET GAS, TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE, NOTHING. THE DASH TURNS ON, THE VEHICLE CLI IS, BUT WONT TURN OVER. BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, STARTER...CHARGING SYSTEM CHECKED OUT TO BE OK. CONCERNED I WILL BE STRANDED WITHOUT A TRUE FIX TO THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY EACH TIME WE TRIED TO START IT. TRANSFER CASE IS GOING OUT, AND VEHICLE WILL STALL AND NOT START AGAIN FOR A WHILE. VEHICLE WOULD NOT EVEN BACKUP, HAD TO CALL A TOLL TRUCK.
TAKATA RECALL THERE'S A RECALL ON DODGE JOURNEYS 2009 AND THE SXT IS HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. THE PCM IS DRAINING BATTERIES AND CAUSING MY TRUCK TO SHIFT HARD OR SHIFTS TO THE SECOND GEAR AND WON'T POWER PAST THAT. RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THAT MANY OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE OR ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL DODGE NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIGURE OUT WHY THESE VEHICLES ARE MALFUNCTIONING. OCT 2017 I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR MADE A GRINDING SOUND THAT DIDN'T STOP WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED IT USED. THEY CHARGED US FOR PARTS $2000.00 AND FIX IT . ABOUT 4 WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN BUT THIS TIME THEY SAID THE PART WASN'T AVAILABLE. ITS NOW MARCH OF 2018 AND THE PART STILL ISNT AVAILABLE AND I AM PAYING ON A CAR I DON'T HAVE. WHY IS THIS NOT BEING RECALLED ?? I SEE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THIS POSITION. THE ISSUE IS AN UNRESOLVED PROBLEMS AND I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL FORUMS WITH THIS COMPLAINT ON THE DODGE JOURNEY. NO MECHANIC CAN PINPOINT WHAT CAUSES THIS. I'VE BEEN STUCK SEVERAL TIMES FOR HOURS DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT STARTING. IT MAY BE SOME SECURITY GLITCH OR SOMETHING. DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL THIS AND GET IT FIXED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.

THERE WAS A EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN THAT WAS REPEATEDLY CHECKED BY THE DEALER AND COULDN'T FIND THE SOURCE. THEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN, I HEARD A LOUD BANG. PULLED OVER AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. GOT IT TOWED, AND THE MECHANIC SAID THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $3000 WITH ONLY 75,000 MILES ON IT
THE PCM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS. THE DEALERSHIP DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE PCM.
WRITING IN REGARDS TO A RECALL ISSUED FOR 2009 DODGE JOURNEYS ON DATE 10/9/2008. THE RECALL IS CHRYSLER RECALL H33 THAT BEGAN ON 11/10/2008. AAMCO PUT IN 3 TRANSFER CASES. HARR DODGE IN WORCESTER, MA DIAGNOSED MY VEHICLE ON SEPT 20, 2017 AND THAT IS WHEN I FOUND OUT WHAT IT NEEDS. WITH NO PART AVAILABLE IN THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES. THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS CAR NOW, NOT YEARS FROM NOW . THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION IT IS PART OF THE DRIVESHAFT CONNECTION. AFTER GETTING OFF AT 7PM, I GOT ON THE EXPRESSWAY TO GO HOME, ONCE I STARTED GOING THE SPEED LIMIT 55MPH, I HEARD ANOTHER BANG NOISE AND THE TRUCK WAS LOOSING SPEED, SO I PULLED OVER AND CALLED ROADSIDE. AFTER FINALLY GETTING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY WERE ABOUT TO TAKE IT OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND THE SERVICE TECH HEARD THE BANG NOISE. THE KEY SINCE ALSO DOES NOT REGISTER AT TIMES, WILL SAY "MISMATCH KEY" ON DASHBOARD, ALL SENSORS FLASH THEN GO AWAY SUCH AS (GASCAP, DOOR AJAR, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD IGNITE WITH NO CODE, GATE, KEY), WOULDN'T TURN OVER, FREQUENT :DEAD BATTERY" THEN STARTS WITHOUT JUMP FEW MINUTES LATER. ALSO IT INTERMITTENTLY INCREASES TO A HIGH RPM FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS OR SO, THEN RETURNS TO NORMAL. THIS CAN OCCUR AT A CONSTANT SPEED ON A LEVEL ROAD. DEALER CAN NOT FIND THE ISSUE SINCE NO 'TROUBLE' LIGHT IS ON. I SEE WHAT SEEMS TO BE A SIMILAR ISSUE ON AN INTERNET SEARCH, BUT HAVE NOT FOUND ANY CAUSE. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS AND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS PAID TO CHRYSLER DEALERS, NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND AND NOTHING HAS BEEN SUGGESTED. THE STALLING IN TRAFFIC IS VERY TROUBLESOME AS IT MAY CAUSE INJURY TO MY FAMILY. FOR THIS REASON, THE RECOMMENDATION TO DRIVE IT TILL SOMETHING BREAKS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AS IT MAY BE THE OCCUPANTS THAT 'BREAK'! THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED FOR ME (BOTH THE STALLING AND THE REVVING) IS REPORTED BELOW.

WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, I FELT THE CAR JERK SEVERAL TIMES AS THOUGH I WAS USING ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THIS WAS CONFUSING SINCE I DID NOT EVEN HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. SECONDS LATER I HEARD AN ALMOST GRINDING OR DRAGGING NOISE. I PULLED OVER INTO THE FIRST EMPTY LOT I FOUND AND CHECKED THE TIRES, GOT DOWN AND CHECKED UNDER THE CAR FOR ANYTHING HANGING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DRAGGING ON THE GROUND, FOUND NOTHING THAT LOOKED OUT OF THE ORDINARY. I THOUGHT THEN THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SNOW OR ICE AROUND THE TIRES SINCE IT HAD SNOWED THE NIGHT BEFORE. I PROCEEDED TO GET BACK INTO THE CAR AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY THREE MINUTES AND THE NOISE GOT LOUDER. I DROVE TO MY MECHANIC WHICH WAS ANOTHER 5 MINUTES AWAY. HE WAS AMAZED THAT THE POWER TRAIN SEEMED TO EXPLODE FROM THE INSIDE OUT. IN ALL HIS YEARS OF FIXING CARS, HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. WE'VE READ MANY RECALL NOTICES FOR THE POWER TRAIN YET NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP WITH THIS RECALL. SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED, THEY SAY THAT THE RECALL IS NOT TRANSFERABLE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR, AND MY TRUCK COMPLETELY LOST POWER. I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND MY LIFE AND MY DAUGHTER'S LIFE WERE IN JEOPARDY. THIS HAPPENS APPROXIMATELY ONE EVERY 3 WEEKS. TODAY, 11-25-2013, MY FIANCE WAS DRIVING AROUND A ROUNDABOUT, THE CAR DIED AND SHE WAS HIT LIGHTLY FROM BEHIND. ALSO, THE CONTROLS ON MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I PURCHASED THE 2009 DODGE JOURNEY SXT USED IN 2012. IN LESS THEN A YEAR I HAD TO REPLACE AN AXLE, THEN REPLACE A DRIVE SHAFT. ONCE THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS REPLACED, LESS THEN A MONTH LATER I WAS DRIVING HOME AND HEARD A CLICKING NOISE. IT LASTED NO LONGER THEN A MINUTE AND THEN ABOUT 1 MILE DOWN THE ROAD AS I WAS TURNING ON TO MY ROAD I HEARD A LOUD CRACK. MY VEHICLE THEN SHOOK VIOLENTLY AS I DROVE, AS IF ONE OF THE TIRES MIGHT BE FALLING OFF. I CAUTIOUSLY CONTINUED ON AT NO MORE THEN 15MPH TO MY DRIVE (MAYBE 2/10 OF A MILE). WHEN I PULLED IN MY CAR WAS SMOKING. THE NEXT DAY WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, THINKING MAYBE IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. AND WERE INFORMED IT WAS A TRANSFER CASE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. IT HAD CRACKED AND SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE AND WAS LEAKING FLUID. WHEN WE CALLED TO CHECK ON THE $1200.00 PART (AFTER ALREADY PUTTING IN ANOTHER $1500 IN PARTS AND LABOR TO THE OTHER TWO PROBLEMS) WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE COMPANY WAS OVER 300 PARTS BEHIND ON THEM AND IT COULD TAKE A WHILE. GREAT. AFTER IMMENSE ONLINE RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE SXT AWD VERSION OF THIS VEHICLE. I BOUGHT MY JOURNEY LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. SINCE I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER I GET THE SHAFT WITH A CAR W/LESS THAN 60,000. WELL, I HAD JUST GOTTEN NEW TIRES WHEN ON MY WAY HOME I APPLY THE BRAKES TO PULL INTO THE DRIVE AND HEAR A HORRIFIC METALLIC NOISE. DIAGNOSES, TRANSFER CASE HAS GONE OUT, BAD NEWS OVER 600!!!!!!! ON BACKORDER, LET ME KNOW IT MIGHT BE UP TO 2 MONTHS BEFORE THEY COULD GET ONE TO FIX IT. I TALKED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY INFORMED ME THEY COULD GET ONE SOONER. I HAD THE CAR TRANSPORTED ONCE AGAIN. AFTER BEING AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 WEEKS NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME IT MAYBE ATLEAST ANOTHER MONTH. REALLY? I AM STILL WAITING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,888 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,100.

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THAT SHE SHOULD SHAKE THE GEAR SHIFTER AND THEN TRY TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FOLLOWED THE DEALER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND THE VEHICLE STARTED. I EXITED THE VEHICLE, LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND FOUND THICK, DARK FLUID POURING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, AS WELL AS A SMALL FIRE. FIRE SELF EXTINGUISHED. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE SLOWLY HOME (APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE) AND PARK IT. 2 DAYS LATER, I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED A FAILED TRANSFER CASE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REMOVED FROM MY DRIVEWAY, I FOUND A PIECE OF METAL APPROXIMATELY THE SIZE OF A SILVER DOLLAR WHERE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN. DODGE IS NOW DENYING RESPONSIBILITY IN THIS INSTANCE EVERY THOUGH THERE APPEARS TO BE (AND MY MECHANIC VERIFIED) A PARTS/MANUFACTURING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. SO I DRIVE IT FOR A WHILE ANOTHER 20K AND AGAIN I NEED NEW TIRES AND BRAKES AND AN ALIGNMENT. SO 2000 LATER CUS HAVING "SIZE 225/55/R19" THERE IS ONLY ONE MANUFACTURE AND TIRES ARE 250 EACH. NOW I AM USED TO HAVING NEW TIRES AND YOU ROTATE THEM EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE AND THAT'S IT UNTILYOU GET UP THERE IN MILEAGE AGAIN. NOT SO - 3 WEEKS LATER I WAS BACK IN THERE BECAUSE I KEPT LOOSING TIRE PRESSURE WELL ON TIRE HAD A NAIL IN IT - WHICH THEY DIDN'T TELL ME THEY JUST SAID THE TIRES LOOK GREAT THEY CHECKED THEM FOR LEAKS AND FOUND NONE. ONE WEEK LATER I WAS BACK IN THERE AS TIRES ARE LOOSING AIR ONCE AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I NOTICED MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY STARTED BURNING OIL. I TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP KEFFER CHRYSLER JEEP EAGLE TO HAVE A CONSUMPTION TEST RUN ON IT. COME TO FIND OUT MY JOURNEY BURNED ALMOST 4 QUARTS OF OIL AFTER 1700 MILES. THERE WERE NOT WARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME ON TO TELL ME THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY CAR. I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW WITH 12 MILES ON IT. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD PAY MINE OFF AND I WOULD UPGRADE. EVERYONE I TALKED TO KEEP SAYING THEY CAN NOT MAKE THOSE DECISIONS, MAYBE CONTACT THE NHTSA. CHRYSLER HAS NOT REPLIED BACK YET. I HAVE A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY SXT AWD. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN OCT 2008. THE ISSUES WERE BRAKE/CALIPER FAILURE, WATER LEAK, WIRING HARNESS, IGNITION FAILURE ETC(THE LIST GOES ON). RECENTLY ON JULY 10-13 2011 MY VEHICLE WOULD AUTOMATICALLY STALL WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP OR IDEAL BRAKIN. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT REASON FOR STALLING. THE STATED IT WAS DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION WIRE BEING FRIED AND IT WAS GOING TO COST ME $227 TO REPLACE WIRE. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND PLACED A CASE IN REGARDS TO MY CONCERN AS I FELT THIS WAS A WARRANTY/SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO, INQUIRED ABOUT THE BUY BACK PROGRAM AS EVERY 3K TO 6K MILES SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE THAT IS NEVER MINOR. I WAS WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE AND FOLLOW-UP BETWEEN CHRYSLER CASE MANAGER AND DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER. I HAD NO TRANSPORTATION LEAVING MYSELF AND CHILD STRANDED. THEREFORE, DUE TO NO RESPONSE I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED & PAID FOR IT AS I NEEDED MY VEHICLE BACK. THAT SAME DAY I GET A CALL FROM THE CASE MANAGER STATING THEY ARE UNABLE TO COMPENSATE ME DUE TO VEHICLE ALREADY BEING REPAIRED/PICKED UP. IT IS EXTREMELY SCARY WHILE DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR. YOU HAVE NO IDEAL WHAT IS WRONG. AFTER MANY TRIAL AND ERRORS WITH DODGE THE PROBLEM OF IS ONLY FIXED BY GETTING YOUR ENGINE TORE APART. THEY WILL TELL YOU AT FIRST BAD SPARK PLUGS. THIS IS INCORRECT. THEN THEY SAY BAD GAS. THIS IS INCORRECT. THEN CLEAN THE CARBON OUT. THIS TO IS A TEMPORARY FIX, THEY MUST REDO THE ENGINE, BUT I FEEL THIS IS AGAIN A TEMPORARY FIX, BECAUSE THEY JUST REPLACES PARTS IN ANOTHER 40,000 MILES IT IS BOUND TO HAPPEN AGAIN. 2009 DODGE JOURNEY WITH LESS JUST OVER 23,000 MILES NEEDED ALL NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE BACK BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY SHOT AND MY CAR WAS RELYING COMPLETELY ON THE FRONT BRAKES. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT RIGHT TIE-ROD REPLACED - SO LOOSE THE TIRE WAS READY TO FALL OFF. NOW NEED AN ENTIRELY NEW TRANSMISSION (24,000 MILES NOW). THEY DO SEE THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE AS A PROBLEM, BUT JUSTIFIED THE BRAKES GOING (TOLD ME IT WAS THE WAY I DRIVE) AND THE TIE-ROD (LOTS OF POTHOLES IN THE AREA). IT'S INSANE THAT NO-ONE AT THIS DEALERSHIP SEEMS TO THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR, BUT I KNOW I GOT A LEMON. IN THE LAST MONTH FEB 2010 ON, THE AUTOMATIC LOCKING/SECURITY MECHANISM FOR THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAS FAILED (SCHEDULED TO BE LOOKED IN TWO DAYS) AND TODAY OUR TRANSMISSION/GEARBOX LITERALLY EXPLODED UNDER THE HOOD AT 6,000 MILES. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN A BACK ROAD ON THE WAY TO STORE WHEN A STRING SMELL OF BURNING CAME INTO THE CABIN AND THEN WE HEARD A SEVERE POP AND THEN NOTHING BUT BILLOWING SMOKE. WE HAD OUR TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS AND IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE TO TRY AND GET THEM AWAY FROM THE POSSIBILITY OF THE ENGINE BEING ON FIRE. WE GOT THE KIDS OUT AND I WENT BACK TO SHUT OFF THE CAR ONCE I SAW IT WASN'T FUEL LEAKING. ONCE IT COOLED DOWN AND STOPPED SMOKING I RAISED THE HOOD AND SAW WHAT LOOKED TO BE BURNT TRANSMISSION FLUID AND SMALL METAL FLAKES ALL OVER MY ENGINE AND UNDERSIDEOF THE HOOD. SO IT WAS JUST TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO FIND THE CAUSE. SO NOW I HAVE A CAR WITH A FAULTY SECURITY SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AND WE ONLY HAVE 6,000 MILES ON THE CAR.
