AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

FCA US LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2009 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured December 31, 2007, to August 31, 2008, 2008-2009 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles manufactured June 18, 2007, to August 31, 2008. In the affected vehicles, the air bag control units may corrode and fail.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control unit, free of charge. The recall began on December 6, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S07.

Your airbag warning light came on while driving at 25 mph, and about 15 minutes later, your side airbags deployed without any accident or impact. When you pulled over and got out of the car, the steering wheel and passenger airbags also deployed unexpectedly, breaking the windshield and cracking the dashboard, and your passenger was bruised by the side airbag. Police confirmed there was no collision. The airbag system likely needs complete inspection and replacement of deployed airbag modules and possibly the airbag control unit.

THE PROBLEM IS... UPON STATING YOUR VEHICLE THE FREQUENCY OPERATED BUTTON IGNITION KEY (FOBIK), MAY NOT FULLY SEAT IN THE "ON" POSITION. IF NOT FULLY SEATED, UNDER OPERATING CONDITIONS (FOR EXAMPLE BUMPY ROADS) THE FOBIK COULD INADVERTENTLY MOVE TO THE "ACCESSORY" MODE. THIS COULD CAUSE UNINTENDED ENGINE SHUT OFF AND THE PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE AIRBAGS TO SHUT OFF. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS AND INCREASE THE RISK OF OCCUPANT INJURY DURING A CRASH. WHAT WE MUST DO TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY... ONCE YOU RECEIVE YOUR FOLLOW UP MAIL IN THE SIMPLY CONTACT CHRYSLER WHICH I DID. UNTIL THIS REPAIR IS COMPLETED THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN. MY AIRBAG LIGHT AND THROTTLE LIGHT WERE ON AS WELL AS THE ENGINE LIGHT. I CONTACTED SERVICE REPAIR DEPARTMENT, MD WHERE I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE. 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. I WAS ADVISED THIS WAS DUE TO A RECALL REPAIR THAT NEEDED TO TAKE PLACE. TO BRING THE CAR IN (MARCH, 2011) AFTER THE FIRST REPAIR - THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OUT - BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE THROTTLE LIGHT STAYED ON. I WAS TOLD THE REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY AND POSSIBLY WAS CONNECTED WITH THE RECALL. IT HAS BEEN SEVEN (7) TIMES GOING BACK AND FORTH TO GET THIS REPAIR. AT THE TIME OF THIS WRITING - MY JOURNEY IS BACK WITH THEM AGAIN. NOT ONLY HAVE I HAD TO TAKE TIME OFF FROM WORK TO BRING THE CAR IN TO THEM. IT HAS BEEN AN INCONVENIENCE GOING BACK AND FORTH. APPARENTLY, AFTER THE 2ND TIME - SOMEONE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND THE ORIGINAL SERVICE ASSOCIATE AND STILL HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK. THERE IS A LACK OF GENUINE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SOME SERVICE PARTNERS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO STAY CALM WHEN DEALING WITH A SITUATION LIKE THIS. I FEEL I HAVE BEEN TAKEN FOR GRANTED AND I IT HAS BEEN A TREMENDOUS INCONVENIENCE IN ADJUSTING OUR WORK, VACATION AND TRAVEL SCHEDULES. THEY HAVE FINALLY GIVEN US A RENTAL AFTER 7 TIMES AND TOLD US THAT THEY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM TO HELP FIX THE SITUATION. IT SOUNDS FAR FETCH THAT A BRAND NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM WOULD BE PURCHASED TO FIX ONE VEHICLE. WE FEEL LIKE WE ARE BEING LIED TO AND WANT THE VEHICLE REPLACED. I WAS SITTING STOPPED IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON 06.17.2008 ON HWY 270. A TRUCK TRAVELING AT APPROX 60 MPH HIT THE REAR OF THE JOURNEY . THE TRUCK REMAINED CONNECTED AND PUSHED THE JOURNEY FORWARD INTO 3 ADDITIONAL CARS AND ONE PICKUP TRUCK. MOST VEHICLES SUFFERED HEAVY DAMAGE AND ME AND TWO OTHERS WERE TRANSPORTED TO EMERGENCY ROOMS. THE POLICE REPORT INDICATED 86' OF SKID MARKS AND THE TRUCK DRIVER WAS TICKETED + ASSIGNED 100% BLAME. MY INJURIES INCLUDED CHEST COMPRESSION, BRIEFLY BLACKED-OUT, HEAVY BRUISING FROM THE LEFT SHOULDER TO THE LEFT KNEE, STRAINED NECK AND NERVE DAMAGE. PRE-ACCIDENT I WAS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND WEARING THE SEAT BELT/SHOULDER HARNESS. POST ACCIDENT MY UPPER BODY WAS AGAINST THE DRIVER DOOR WITH THE STEERING WHEEL COMPRESSED AGAINST MY CHEST. THE FRONT AND SIDE JOURNEY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE LAP AND SHOULDER BELT DID NOT PREVENT ME FROM BEING THROWN INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND OUT OF THE DRIVERS SEAT. I DID NOT HAVE SEAT BELT BURN MARKS THAT MAY BE EXPECTED FROM A HIGH SPEED MULTIPLE IMPACT ACCIDENT OF THIS KIND. THE JOURNEY TRAVELED APPROX 60' AFTER IMPACT WAS SUBJECT TO 1 HARD IMPACT TO THE REAR AND 4 HARD IMPACTS TO THE FRONT. THE JOURNEY REPAIRS COST $15,000. IT HAS BEEN 2.5 YEARS SINCE THE ACCIDENT AND I HAVE CRONIC PAIN AND LOSS OF MOTION IN THE NECK. *TR
