Engine4 issues
criticalENGINE
Filed: Jun 2021

While driving 75 mph on the interstate, your 3.3-liter V6 engine suddenly failed catastrophically — a connecting rod broke and punched a 3-4 inch hole through the engine block. Despite regular maintenance and full oil level at the time, the engine could not be saved. The good news is you safely made it to the shoulder, but the engine will need to be completely replaced or rebuilt.

Filed: Aug 2015

Your engine belt keeps disengaging whenever it rains or you drive through water, even at low speeds like 5 mph. This happens repeatedly in wet conditions, but a mechanic couldn't reproduce the problem during testing. The fix will likely involve inspecting the belt tension, belt condition, and pulley alignment to prevent slipping in moisture.

NHTSA #: 10759989
highENGINE
Filed: Aug 2014

Your serpentine belt has fallen off four separate times while driving at various speeds, including once at highway speeds. Even after a mechanic replaced the water pump, serpentine belt, and tensioner pulley, the belt came off again shortly after, and again after the tensioner itself was replaced. The most recent incident caused your van to begin overheating, which suggests a persistent underlying issue with belt tension or alignment that hasn't been resolved by these repairs.

NHTSA #: 10621795
mediumENGINE
Filed: Sep 2018

Your engine stalled while driving at an unknown speed, and when you restarted it, the engine ran at lower RPMs than normal. No warning lights appeared on your dashboard. A mechanic was unable to reproduce the problem, so the issue remains undiagnosed and unfixed.

Air Bags2 issues
criticalAIR BAGS
Filed: Feb 2016

Your air bag warning light came on while driving at various speeds. A dealer diagnosed that the clock spring (a component that helps your air bags work properly) has failed and needs replacement. This means your air bags may not deploy correctly in a crash if the problem isn't fixed. Replacing the clock spring will restore proper air bag function.

NHTSA #: 10825557

Filed: Nov 2020

Your airbag warning light stays on when you start the engine instead of turning off after a few seconds like it should. This indicates a problem with your airbag system that needs to be diagnosed. You'll need a mechanic to scan the airbag system with diagnostic equipment to identify the specific fault.

Fuel/propulsion System1 issue
criticalFUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Aug 2023

Your van is leaking fuel underneath, which poses a potential fire risk. You've checked for recalls on your specific VIN and found none that apply to this issue. Despite the low mileage, this fuel leak needs immediate attention to prevent a safety hazard.

NHTSA #: 11536904
Suspension1 issue
criticalSUSPENSION
CrashFiled: Dec 2017

Your strut towers have rusted completely through, making your van unsafe to drive. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting 1996-2000 Dodge vans, and the rust has been visible for years but is now critical. Fixing this will likely require replacing the damaged strut towers and possibly the struts themselves.

NHTSA #: 11055404
Steering,electrical System,engine1 issue
criticalSTEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
Filed: Feb 2017

Your serpentine belt may slip off the pulleys due to a manufacturing defect in an engine mount that causes misalignment. When this happens, you'll lose power steering (making the car hard to steer), your water pump (which can cause engine overheating), and your alternator (which can leave you stranded when the battery dies). This is particularly dangerous in cold weather or remote areas where you may not have cell service and could face long waits for a tow truck. Fixing this typically requires replacing the defective engine mount and ensuring proper pulley alignment.

criticalSTEERING,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,AIR BAGS
Filed: Jul 2016

Your serpentine belt has repeatedly come off the drive pulley, particularly during rainy conditions, though a mechanic was able to reinstall it each time. Additionally, the clock spring in your steering wheel failed, causing both your horn and driver's side airbag to stop working. The underlying causes of these failures were not diagnosed or repaired. Fixing these issues will likely involve replacing the serpentine belt and inspecting the pulley system, as well as replacing the steering wheel clock spring to restore horn and airbag function.

NHTSA #: 10882982
Engine,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
criticalENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Sep 2015

Your van stalls and loses power after about 60 miles of driving, then dies completely. This has happened multiple times despite the dealership attempting repairs. The engine shuts down unexpectedly while driving, which is dangerous — you could lose control on a highway with no warning.

NHTSA #: 10762004
Air Bags,vehicle Speed Control,electrical System1 issue
criticalAIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: May 2015

While driving at 50 mph, your horn and cruise control stopped working, and your airbag warning light came on. This happened after the vehicle had been previously repaired under a safety recall for airbags. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for this new issue.

NHTSA #: 10716674
Electrical System,visibility/wiper1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER
Filed: Oct 2023

While driving at 55 MPH, your windshield wipers and turn signal blinkers stopped working, and you heard an abnormal noise. A mechanic found that a faulty wiper transmission linkage, relay, and switch were responsible. The relay and switch were replaced, but the wiper transmission linkage couldn't be repaired because the manufacturer said replacement parts weren't available. Fixing this issue will require replacing the wiper transmission linkage assembly once parts become available.

NHTSA #: 11550683
Steering1 issue
highSTEERING
Filed: Dec 2019

While driving at 35 mph, your steering wheel suddenly became hard to turn and you heard an unusual noise. Your battery and check engine warning lights came on, and the temperature gauge climbed higher than normal. You discovered the steering belt was loose, which likely caused the steering difficulty. The fix will involve inspecting and tightening or replacing the serpentine belt that powers your power steering system.

NHTSA #: 11286474
Electrical System1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Jun 2019

Your check engine light and ABS light keep turning on and off while you're driving. This has been happening since you purchased the vehicle. The lights are intermittently flashing on your dashboard rather than staying steady.

NHTSA #: 11222611
Electrical System,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Sep 2017

After having your fuel pump replaced, your fuel gauge stopped working properly. Additionally, gasoline spilled onto the road during the repair or operation, creating a potential hazard. The issue likely involves a problem with how the fuel gauge sensor or its wiring was reconnected during the fuel pump replacement work.

NHTSA #: 11021289
Suspension,structure1 issue
highSUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
Filed: Apr 2015

Your front suspension support system has rusted and corroded significantly, causing the shock supports, framing, and springs to deteriorate. A mechanic found that the driver-side support system failed and the support brackets in the front need to be replaced. The repair will likely involve replacing the rusted suspension support brackets and possibly the springs and shock components.

NHTSA #: 10705586
Air Bags,equipment Adaptive/mobility1 issue
highAIR BAGS,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
Filed: Dec 2014

Your horn has stopped working, your airbag warning light is turning on and off randomly, and your cruise control has stopped functioning. These issues suggest a problem with your vehicle's electrical system or airbag control module. A technician will need to diagnose the wiring, connectors, and airbag system components to identify and repair the underlying cause.

NHTSA #: 10662893
Structure1 issue
mediumSTRUCTURE
Filed: May 2023

Your van's back door alarm sounds continuously when you drive on the freeway at speeds of 65 mph or higher. The alarm keeps going off even though the door isn't actually open. The issue may be caused by a faulty door latch sensor or electrical connection that's triggered by vibration at higher speeds.

NHTSA #: 11521226
Engine And Engine Cooling1 issue
mediumENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Filed: Nov 2018

Your fuel gauge repeatedly showed empty while driving at highway speeds, even though your tank was full. Pressing the reset button temporarily fixed the problem, but it happened about eight times over four months. A mechanic diagnosed that your radiator needed replacement, and once repaired, the issue stopped occurring. The fix involved replacing the radiator.
