ON SOME SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, UNDER CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS, AN INTEGRATED CIRCUIT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT CONTROLS INTERIOR LIGHTING MAY OVERHEAT.

Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE CLUSTER FOR DAMAGE AND REPLACE IT FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 2, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-140.

Your vehicle may suddenly stop running and shut off the fuel pump, leaving you stranded even though you have a full tank of gas. This is caused by a faulty computer module (TIPM/PCM) that controls the fuel system. The dealer can fix this by installing a relay bypass to restore fuel pump operation.

Your vehicle wouldn't start while parked, and when it finally did start, multiple warning lights flashed on the dashboard including an unknown red warning light. Two different dealerships diagnosed the problem as a faulty instrument cluster and recommended replacement, but the issue continued even after one repair attempt. The warning lights and starting problems keep coming back.

Your liftgate opens with the key fob but immediately drops back down on its own, creating a safety hazard if someone is loading groceries—you need a second person to hold it up. Additionally, your left sliding door won't lock or unlock with the key fob like your other doors do, requiring manual operation. A couple years ago, the left sliding door wouldn't close electronically or manually, forcing you to drive home in the rain with it wide open. The liftgate support struts and the left door lock mechanism likely need replacement to resolve these issues.

VEHICLE HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS WELL AS NOT STARTING AT IRREGULAR MOMENTS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND AUTO REPAIR SHOP. EACH TIME TO HAVE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FIXED, FIRST TIME IT WAS BATTERY AND LEADS, NEXT IT WAS ALTERNATOR, THEN NEW BELT , AND AFTER EACH FIX THE PROBLEM WOULD COME BACK, FINALLY AN HONEST MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT I HAD TO REMOVE LEADS TO BATTERY FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE CAR COULD CRANK AGAIN. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. HE CHECKED CAM SENSOR AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR - ALL GOOD TOO. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR OVER TWO YEARS. THE WORST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS NOT PRINCIPAL CITY STREET AT RUSH HOUR WITH 3 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. OF COURSE, I WAS MORE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING THE CHILDREN OUT OF THE STALLED VEHICLE AND SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET BEFORE PUSHING THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY DODGE DEALERSHIP. IT SEEMS OLDER DODGE DURANGOS LIKE MINE FROM 2006 HAVE THIS COME PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T A SOURCE TO THIS PROBLEM BEEN IDENTIFIED AND A MANUFACTURER RECALL SOLUTION BEEN PROVIDED? TWICE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN A DODGE DEALERSHIP AND NEW EXPENSES FOR DIFFERENT THINGS WERE PRESCRIBED, AND NONE FIXED THE PROBLEM. MUST THE PUBLIC WAIT UNTIL SOME DIES ON THE ROAD WHEN THIS PROBLEM WHICH LEADS TO STALLED VEHICLES HAVE MORE ACCIDENTS AND THEN DEATHS?

SINCE JULY 2015 MY DURANGO HAS BEEN STALLING. WHETHER I AM TURNING, STOPPED AT A LIGHT IT TURNS OFF, BUT TURNS BACK ON. IT HAS BEEN PULLING, ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO TURN OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING, LIKE I AM LOSING POWER. ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED, THROTTLE BODY, FACTORY SPARK PLUGS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED AND SEVERAL OIL CHANGES. NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND THEY TELL ME IT IS ONE THING AND FIX IT AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. ANOTHER TELLS ME SOMETHING ELSE AND FIX IT AND IT CONTINUES.

ON 6/14/2015 I WAS ABOUT TO BACK MY TRAILER INTO MY YARD, WHEN MY GEAR SHIFT COLUMN SELECTOR LOCKED IN PARK. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. ADDITIONALLY, MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NO LONGER WORKING. PRIOR TO ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS I HAD TO REPLACE MY IGNITION FOR IT WAS LOCKING AND WOULD NOT TURN TO THE ON POSITION OR ACCESSORIES POSITION. IT COST ME $400 DOLLARS FOR A NEW IGNITION TO BE INSTALLED BY THE DEALER AND NOW I HAVE WORSE PROBLEMS THAN BEFORE. SO I BEGAN RESEARCHING AND HERE IS MY FINDINGS: 1) SAFETYRECALL G28 -IGNITION/PARK SHIFT INTERLOCK IN 2001 AND 2002 MODELS FOR MANY VEHICLES WHICH INCLUDED THE DURANGO. 2) THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK CONNECTOR HAS MALFUNCTIONED WILL NOT ALLOW THE SHIFTER TO MOVE. SO IF THE DEALER KNOWS ABOUT THESE RECALLS WHY DIDN'T THEY FIX THEM FREE OF CHARGE.

APPROXIMATELY DURING SUMMER OF 2013, UPON STARTING ENGINE, THE IGNITION WOULD "STICK" WHEN KEY WAS TURNED FORWARD. DURANGO WOULD HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF AND KEY TAKEN OUT OF IGNITION SWITCH TO TRY IT AGAIN. THEN, UPON SHIFTING INTO REVERSE AND BACKING UP, THE VEHICLE WOULD COME TO AN ABRUPT HALT AND BE IMMOVABLE FOR A TIME, USUALLY UNTIL PUTTING INTO PARK AND RE-STARTING VEHICLE. THIS IS WHEN THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. WE HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED AT WHICH TIME THE WHEELS WERE LOCKED IN PLACE, CAUSING BLACK SKID MARKS FROM ITS POINT OF TOW TO TOW TRUCK. THE AUTO SHOP REPLACED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH WAS "STUCK OR LOCKED IN POSITION". MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT WENT OFF TEMPORARILY. IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN IN AUGUST, 2014. TOOK TO AUTO SHOP TO DIAGNOSE. AFTER 677.74 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS, LIGHT STILL REMAINS ON. *TR

UPON FIRST PURCHASING AT A DEALERSHIP THE PURCHASE WAS AS A USED VEHICLE, SO NO WARRANTY IS OR WAS IN PLACE. A FEW MONTHS LATER WHEN FILLING THE TANK AT A GAS STATION THE FIRST INCIDENT OF PROPULSION OF GASOLINE FORCING OUT OF THE TANK, FIRST HAPPENED. THEN A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE THE MOTOR WOULD NOT START. USING AN OBD TO CHECK CODES THERE WAS NO ERROR CODES BUT STILL ENDED UP CLEARING IT ANYWAYS WHICH ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO START (WHICH MEANS ITS THE COMPUTER). NOW, THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW IS DOWN AND WILL NOT GO BACK UP, CHECKED THE MOTOR AND THE MOTOR FOR THE WINDOW IS FINE, BUT CHECKING THE SWITCH IT WOULD ONLY UNLOCK DOOR, NOT ALLOW LOCK AND ABSOLUTELY NO WINDOW CONTROL AT ALL FROM EITHER THE PASSENGER DOOR SWITCH OR DRIVER SIDE SWITCH. WHEN LOOKING AT THE SWITCHES TURNS OUT THAT THE CIRCUIT BOARDS ARE NOT SOLDERED. THE ONLY WAY TO GET ANY OF THE PROBLEMS FIXED FOR ANYONE NOW WOULD BE FOR A RECALL, BECAUSE THE YEAR BEING 2014 NO WARRANTY WILL COVER ANY PROBLEMS THAT I OR ANYONE ELSE IS FACING! *TR

I HAVE A 2006 DODGE DURANGO, BOUGHT IT USED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF AGO, APPROXIMATELY MARCH OF 2013, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO STALL WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENED AT ALL SPEEDS AND AFTER IT HAPPENING MULTIPLE TIMES WE FIGURED OUT THAT IT HAPPENED WHEN IT WAS WET/RAINING OUT. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND DANGEROUS WHEN GOING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY...TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLE JERK NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEN COMPLETELY SHUTOFF (AKA NO POWER AT ALL!). WE HAVE SPENT A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS SINCE SPRING OF 2013 TRYING TO FIX THE ISSUE. WE WORKED CLOSELY WITH OUR DEALER TO FIGURE OUT THE EXACT PROBLEM...FIGURED OUT IT WAS ELECTRICAL (POSSIBLY WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARE USED...)BUT THAT WAS ABOUT AS FAR AS WE GOT. SOME OF THE THINGS THEY FOUND AND/OR FIXED OR REPLACED ARE AS FOLLOWS: WIRING THAT WAS FRAYED, RE-GROUND NUMEROUS WIRES, REPLACED A HANDFUL OF SENSORS, RESEALED CONNECTIONS BETWEEN ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND MAIN MODULE (AS WELL AS RESEALED THE BOXES THEMSELVES SINCE WATER WAS FOUND IN THEM), REPLACED THE ELECTRICAL MODULE ($2K), AND REPLACED ENTIRE ELECTRICAL BOX(WHICH INCLUDED HAVING TO RE-WIRE)...FOUND A USED ONE SINCE BRAND NEW WOULD HAVE BEEN $1200! . IN ADDITION, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES HAD MALFUNCTIONED INCREASING THE STOPPING DISTANT NEEDED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK IN WHEN IT DID IT AND TO LEAVE IT RUN WHEN I GO INSIDE TO LET THEM KNOW. I TOOK BACK DOWN THERE ON JUNE 24 AS IT WAS DOING IT ALL AGAIN. THEY IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND STATED YOU DEFINITELY HAVE SOMETHING WRONG. THEY TOLD AFTER AN HOUR THAT THEY COULD ONLY GET THE READING UP TO THE ECM AND ANYTHING AFTER THAT IT IS NOT SHOWING UP THAT IT IS DEAD. THEY CALLED THE LEAD ENGINEER AT DODGE TO TRY AND FIND A SOLUTION. I TALKED TO THEM ON JUNE 25 AND STILL NO ANSWER. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO PUT $10 IN GAS AND WAS GOING TO CHARGE THAT TO ME AS THEY LOST THE SIGNAL TO DIAGNOSTIC SUE TO TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. THEY DROVE AROUND FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES TO TRY AND REESTABLISH THE PROBLEM AND HAS NOT HAPPENED. I CALLED THEM TODAY JUNE 27,2013 AND TOLD I COULD COME AND PICK UP THE VEHICLE AS THEY CAN NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO DO THE PROBLEMS AGAIN TO REESTABLISH THE CONNECTIONS. THEY ALSO SAID IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO JUST BRING IT BACK OVER SO THEY CAN REESTABLISH THE CONNECTION FOR THE PROBLEMS. I KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN RECALLS FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THESE VEHICLES. THE CONCLUSION OF HIS INSPECTION WAS THAT THE TRUCK BURNED THROUGH NO FAULT OF CHRYSLER'S DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO PROVE THEM WRONG, OR HAVE IT INSPECTED MYSELF. MY INSURANCE HAD LAPSED AT THAT TIME, AND I KNOW THAT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. BUT NOW I AM STUCK WITH A TRUCK THAT IS NOT USABLE, AND THE COMPANY THAT FINANCED IT IS LOOKING FOR THEY'RE MONTHLY PAYMENT. WITH I CAN NOT AFFORD BECAUSE I HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO GET BACK AND FORWARD TO WORK. SO I HAVE DONE A VOLUNTEER REPOSSESSION AND THEY WILL PICK THE TRUCK UP SOON. ONCE THEY GET IT I STILL WILL BE FORCED TO PAY FOR IT THROUGH GARNISHMENT, WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD. IN THE OTHER CASES IN WHICH THIS SAME TRUCK BURNED TO THE GROUND, CHRYSLER DETERMINED THAT IT WAS NOT THEY'RE FAULT EVEN WITH SUCH A RECALL ON THEM. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR; HOWEVER, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ONE WEEK LATER. AFTER THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE AUTOMATICALLY AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE FIRE SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE THREE STORY HOME AND KILLED THE FAMILY CAT. THREE VEHICLES WERE ALSO DESTROYED: A 2006 DURANGO, 1996 GRAND AM, AND A 2001 FORD TAURUS. SHE SPOKE WITH DODGE TO FIND OUT IF THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE DURANGO, BUT DODGE RULED OUT THAT POSSIBILITY. THIS WAS AN ISSUE RAISED BY INVESTIGATORS. DURING TIMES OF LOW TEMPERATURES (BELOW 40 DEGREES) THE FOLLOWING OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, THE RADIO VOLUME SPONTANEOUSLY GOES DOWN, THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS FLASH OFF AND ON, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL COME ON, THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR THE AIRBAG INDICATE THE AIRBAG IS NOT ACTIVATED. I AM SURE THERE ARE MORE GLITCHES; HOWEVER THESE ARE THE ONES THAT STAND OUT. THIS MORNING, HOWEVER, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS APPROXIMATELY 22 DEGREES. I SET THE CRUISE FOR 75, WHEN I REVIEWED THE SPEED, THE VEHICLE HAD ACCELERATED TO 95 AND THE CRUISE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF EITHER BY THE CRUISE CONTROL CONTROLS OR BY BRAKING. IN FACT THE BRAKES HAD DIFFICULTY SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 75 AND WHEN RELEASED THE VEHICLE WOULD AGAIN ACCELERATE. WHEN PLACED INTO NEUTRAL, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED REVVING AND WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE IT AGAIN ACCELERATED. WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE BY PLACING IT IN NEUTRAL AND CONTINUE TO PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKES, I MANEUVERED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. IT THEN WOULD NOT RE-START. THE IGNITION WOULDN'T TURN OVER FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO BE WORKING FINE. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING. THEY WERE ALREADY AWARE OF THE PREVIOUS IRREGULARITIES AND ADVISED THEY WOULD BE TALKING TO THE SUPPORT CENTER TODAY. THEY HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE ADVISED THAT THEY ARE AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.*JB

AIR CONDITIONING NOT COOLING PROPERLY. TESTED VENT TEMPERATURES IN IDENTICAL CONDITIONS USING AN INFRARED TEMPERATURE PROBE AND A NORMAL ANALOG TEMPERATURE PROBE. USED 1997 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER IN TEST WITH MY NEW 2006 DODGE DURANGO. TESTED INITIAL LEFT CENTER VENT TEMP AND THE TEMP AFTER 1, 2, 3, 4 AND 5 MINUTES USING THE DASH VENTS ONLY AND MAX COOL AND MAX FAN. THE NINE YEAR OLD MOUNTAINEER VENT TEMP WAS 9 OR 10 DEGREES COOLER AFTER 5 MINUTES. THE OLDER VEHICLE COOLED FASTER AND PROVIDED COLDER AIR TEMPS. THIS TESTING WAS DONE AFTER NOTICING THE DURANGO WASN'T COOLING AS WELL AS MY OLD MOUNTAINEER. *JB
