EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Dodge Charger vehicles manufactured May 20, 2010, through November 8, 2011, and equipped with halogen headlamps. In the affected vehicles, a sub-harness for the headlights may overheat and cause the low beam headlights to go out.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp jumper harnesses and bulbs, or the headlamp assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 2, 2014. Owners may contract Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number associated with this recall is P08. This recall concerns non-police vehicles. A separate campaign was launched in 2012 to address police vehicles. See NHTSA recall 12V-042.

My vehicle has the symptoms listed in NHSTA 12V-042. The dealership would not complete the recall due to my VIN number not being included or my manufacture date not matching the dates. They directed me to email the NHSTA to get this resolved
PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT HAS GONE OUT 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS. WHEN CHANGED/FIXED, EACH HEADLIGHT BULB IS BURNT AND 2 OUT OF THE 4 HAVE BUSTED INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. IT IS THE CORRECT BULB/VOLTAGE AND CERTIFIED OREM REPLACEMENT HEADLIGHT BULBS FOR THE LOW BEAM. EACH BULB LAST ONLY 4-6 WEEKS. NO SIGNS OF MOISTURE IN THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR FAULTY INSTALLATION.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM WILL COME ON THEN GO OFF. AFTER AWHILE IT COMES BACK ON FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN GOES OUT AGAIN. THE VEHICLE CAN BE SITTING RUNNING OR GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND WILL DO THE SAME THING.
ONE OR BOTH LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS CUT OFF WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS RELEASED A SAFETY RECALL THAT APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE, HOWEVER, IT IS NOT REGISTERED TO MY VIN AT THE MOMENT. THE RECALL NUMBER IS P08 / NHTSA 14V-101. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE.

DOESN'T MATTER IF LIGHTS ON AUTO OR MANUALLY TURNED ON THIS HAPPENS. THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES TO HAPPENS RANGES FROM FEW SECONDS TO 20 MIN. DEALER ACTS AS IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM AND CAN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM SO CAN'T GET FIXED. THIS GOES FOR ME AND THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WITH SAME ISSUE WE NOW CAN'T DRIVE VEHICLE AT NIGHT OR TAKE A RISK THAT COULD EITHER GET US A TICKET FOR NO HEADLIGHT OR COULD BE IN A DRIVING SITUATION BEING PITCH BLACK OUT NO CITY LIGHTS TO HELP SEE MAKING A TURN AND LIGHTS GO OUT. THAT IS A FOR SURE WRECK OR EVEN DEATH. I DO KNOW OF A RECALL FOR THIS POLICE CHARGER JUST MINE ISN'T THE RIGHT TYPE SO WHY NOT MAKE IT FOR ALL TYPES. MY 2011 DODGE CHARGER HAD THE PO8 RECALL DONE IN JULY OF 2014 AT ABOUT 48000 MILES NOW AT 94000 MILES THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. I WAS TOLD THE FIX WILL BE $440.+ TAX AS THE PROBLEM IS A VOLTAGE DROP IN THE HARNESS THAT WAS INSTALLED AND NOT THE ORIGINAL MELTED WIRING THAT CAUSED THE PO8 RECALL. I THOUGHT FAULTY WIRING CAUSING LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE.

I NOTICED THERE IS A RECALL ON EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS ON 2011 DODGE CHARGERS, MANUFACTURED BETWEEN MAY 2010 AND NOVEMBER 2011 MY CHARGER R/T MAX WAS MANUFACTURED IN THAT TIME. BUT THIS RECALL IS NOT NOTED TO MY VIN #, I LOOKED INTO IT THE RECALL IS ON EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CHARGERS MANUFACTURED IN THE TIME NOTED ABOVE, THAT IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM IN MY VEHICLE MANUFACTURED IN THE SAME TIME FRAME. WHEN I START MY CAR THE LIGHTS TURNS ON, BUT AFTER I BEGIN DRIVING THEY TURN OFF ON THE RIGHT SIDE.

NOW THIS WINTER I WENT OUT TO STORAGE TO START IT UP AND I NOTICED THAT I NOW HAVE EVEN MORE LED'S THAT ARE OUT. NOT ONLY DO I VIEW THIS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THESE LED'S ESSENTIALLY ACT AS THE CARS REAR RUNNING LIGHTS, BUT IT IS ONE OF THE KEY FEATURES OF THIS CAR AND IT LOOKS REALLY CRUMMY WHEN THEY GO OUT. AND I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD MANY PEOPLE THAT OWN 2011-2014 DODGE CHARGERS HAVE THIS ISSUE. I THINK DODGE SHOULD STEP IN AND REPLACE THE CENTER SECTION OF THE TAIL LIGHTS. THE DEALER SCHEDULED A REPAIR APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLAMP WORKED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN WENT OUT. UPON TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY INDICATED THEY DIDN'T THINK REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I SUBSEQUENTLY WENT ONLINE AND FOUND TWO RECALLS FOR 2011/2012 DODGER CHARGER POLICE VEHICLES THAT MATCH MY PROBLEM EXACTLY. THE RECALLS ARE #94303 AND #94301. WHEN I CALLED DODGE ABOUT THIS, THEY TOOK MY VIN AND TOLD ME MY CAR WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND WOULDN'T BE COVERED UNLESS ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. THESE RECALLS STATE "THE LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS OF SOME VEHICLES COULD FAIL DUE TO AN OVERHEATED BULB HARNESS CONNECTOR." BOTH OF MY LOW BEAM HEADLAMP BULB HARNESS CONNECTORS HAVE BLACK MARKS INDICATING OVERHEATING.

THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS HAS MELTED CAUSING THE LIGHT TO NOT WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW. I NOTICED THERE IS A RECALL BUT ONLY ON THE POLICE CARS. WHY ONLY POLICE CARS? THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PAID FOR THESE VEHICLES WITH THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY DESERVE THE SAME TREATMENT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO ALL CHARGERS IN THAT YEAR NOT JUST POLICE CARS. DODGE NEEDS TO CONSIDER ALL OF THEIR CUSTOMERS IN THIS ISSUE. *TR
DRIVING AT DUSK. NOTICED PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WAS OUT. CHECKED IT THE NEXT DAY AND FOUND WIRING JUMPER HAD GOTTEN HOT AND BEGAN TO MELT. SAME EXACT PROBLEM I HAD WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT 4 MONTHS PRIOR. HAD TO HAVE WIRING HARNESS REPLACED.
BAD DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HARNESS. BULB NEEDS TO BE REPLACED EVERY FEW WEEKS BECAUSE OF IT. THIS MODEL SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR FIX. I HAVE OVER 36000 MILES NOW AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. *TR
I HAVE REPLACED THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT BULB 6 TIMES IN THE YEAR I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. OBVIOUSLY IT IS NOT THE BULBS, NOR IS IT A FUSE. FACTORY WARRANTY JUST RAN OUT ON THE CAR. BEFORE WHEN I WOULD REPLACE A BULB THE LIGHT WOULD WORK FINE. BUT AS THE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT SOONER AND SOONER EVERYTIME IT SEEMS AFTER I WOULD REPLACE IT. THIS LAST TIME I REPLACED IT, IT WORKED BUT WAS OUT BYT HE TIME I GOT HOME FROM THE AUTO PARTS STORE. I DID NOTICE IT COMING ON AND GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY. HOWEVER 95% OF THE TIME THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE HEADLIGHT CONNECTOR MELTED DUE TO OVERHEATING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE WIRING HARNESS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT STOPPED WORKING. NO POWER IS GOING TO THE LOW BEAM BULB. THERE IS A RECALL ON 2011 AND 2012 POLICE DODGE CHARGER FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT THERE IS NOT ONE FOR THE EVERYDAY CONSUMER. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH DODGE DOES NOT CARE FOR THE CONSUMER. NOT SURE WHY WHEN THEY MAKE MOST OF THEIR MONEY OFF OF NORMAL, EVERYDAY PEOPLE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AROUND WITH ONE HEADLIGHT WORKING. *TR

A DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED IT WAS PROBABLY THE WIRING HARNESS THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE AT NIGHT, WAS INFORMED BY POLICE OFFICER THAT DRIVERS SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WAS OUT. SOON AFTER, I TRIED TO REPLACE BULB MYSELF. FOUND THAT LOW BEAM HARNESS WAS BURNT/MELTED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE BULB. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. PARTS REPLACED: HEADLIGHT HARNESS AND WIRING JUMPER. *TR

THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V042000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,500.
