You've also noticed a puddle of gasoline under the right rear seat area while the car was parked. This issue appears to be an ongoing problem that needs prompt attention before it becomes a safety concern.

VERY STRONG GASOLINE ODOR AFTER FILLING TANK. NOTICED STRONG ODOR IN OUR GARAGE AND FOUND A LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS UNDER CAR DIRECTLY BENEATH THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. UPON INVESTIGATION DISCOVERED THERE IS A SECONDARY FUEL PUMP AT THAT LOCATION THAT IS PRONE TO CRACKING/LEAKING. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS ALSO LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSES EVEN GREATER CONCERN FOR POSSIBILITY OF FIRE. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE AND WOULD LIKE A LOGICAL EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THIS EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. FUEL TANK RIGHT SIDE UNDER REAR PASSENGER SEAT HAS A LEAK. EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED WITH GASOLINE, THE FUEL LEAK STARTS AND GOES AWAY AFTER HALF THE TANK IS USED. IT'S LOCATED RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP. THE FUMES OF THE GAS CAN BE SMELLED INSIDE THE CAB BECAUSE ITS DIRECTLY LOCATED UNDER THE SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE AUXILIARY FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED QUIRK CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF BANGOR (07 HOGAN RD, BANGOR, ME 04401, (207) 945-9458), DARLING'S CHEVROLET (21 DOWNEAST HWY, ELLSWORTH, ME 04605, (866) 575-2434), AND CHARLIE'S CHEVROLET (1412 US-202, WINTHROP, ME 04364, (207) 377-2236). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.

I SMELLED THE STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE INSIDE MY CHARGER. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GAS FROM AROUND THE O RING AT THE FUEL PUMP WHICH IS LOCATED UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT. THE MECHANIC TIGHTENED THE COVER TO THE FUEL PUMP AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE. ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE VEHICLE WAS NOW VISIBLY LEAKING GAS FONTO THE GROUND AND THE FUEL SMELL INSIDE THE VEHICLE WAS INTOLERABLE. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND LEFT IT WITH THEM FOR A DAY IN WHICH TIME THEY REPLACED THE RING, TESTED IT AND FOUND NO FURTHER LEAKAGE AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME. BY THE NEXT MORNING THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING AGAIN, THIS TIME MUCH WORSE. I HAD TO PARK IT AWAY FROM THE HOUSE FOR FEAR THAT IT MIGHT CAUSE AN EXPLOSION WHEN IF LEFT IN THE HOT GARAGE WITH THE FUMES FILLING UP THE GARAGE. I SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 71 COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA. THIS IS TRULY A DANGEROUS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. I JUST HAD MY DAUGHTER AND GRAND KIDS IN THE CAR WITH SOME OF THE GRAND KIDS SITTING OVER THE FUEL PUMP LOCATED UNDER THE SEAT. WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD PUT FUEL PUMPS UNDER THE REAR SEAT. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK IS FULL. WHEN I MOVED IT AWAY FROM THE HOUSE IT LEFT A TRAIL OF GASOLINE TO WHERE I PARKED IT AND BY THE NEXT MORNING THERE WAS A HUGE SPOT ON THE GROUND AND THE CAR WAS FULL OF FUMES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IF THERE EVERY WAS ONE.

THEY STATED THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE SITTING ON MY FUEL PUMP THAT IS UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. THAT IS THE SIDE MY DAUGHTER SITS ON AND SHE HAS BEEN COMPLAINING OF HEADACHES AS WELL. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT IF I WERE TO HAVE GOTTEN INTO A WRECK AND THERE HAD BEEN A SPARK OF SOME SORT MY CAR WOULD HAVE GONE UP IN FLAMES BECAUSE THERE WAS A POOL OF GASOLINE SITTING ON THE FUEL PUMP.

I'M IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET MY CAR TO A LOCAL DODGE DEALER FOR SERVICE ASSISTANCE. SINCE MY CAR HAS SUCH LOW MILEAGE, AND I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER, IT'S DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT I WOULD BE DEALING WITH A FUEL LEAK FROM A 2011 VEHICLE. THEY REPLIED IT WAS A RECALL, SCHEDULED A REPAIR ON 12/14/2018 TOOK VEHICLE IN, DEALERSHIP CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT IT IS NOT COVERED ACCORDING TO THE VIN #. I TOLD THEM THAT IT IS LEAKING FUEL AND THAT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT BECAUSE IT WASN'T UNDER THE RECALL. I LOOKED IT UP ON GOOGLE THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS THAT SAY ITS COVERED. THIS VEHICLE IS LEAKING FUEL SO ITS AN EXPLOSIVE ISSUE AND A FIRE HAZARD. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. I HAD TO PURCHASE THE PART AND HAVE IT REPAIRED FOR OFFICER AND PUBLIC SAFETY. THIS IS A PATROL CAR AND THE MANUFACTURES THAT BUILD THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THERE VEHICLES.

THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FUEL PUMPS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. AFTER FUELING MY VEHICLE ABOVE 3/4THS (BUT NOT OVER FULL) A FUEL LEAK STARTED CAUSING EXTREME FUEL VAPORS TO BE PRESENT INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF CAR. EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS NOT BEING DRIVEN (WHILE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF). THE FUMES ARE SO STRONG THAT THEY FILL MY GARAGE AND CAN BE SMELLED FROM 40 - 50 FEET AWAY AND I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. MANY OTHER FORUMS HAVE BEEN READ FOR ME TO REALIZE THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT, IS COMMON AMONG THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR, AND SHOULD BE CAUSE FOR A RECALL FOR SAFETY REASONS BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS (FIRE, EXPLOSION, ETC). UPON RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET I DISCOVERED ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM THAT OVER 40 PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED OF THIS SAME ISSUE. THE FUEL PUMP CONTINUES TO PUMP GAS ONCE THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THE GAS TANK LEAKS WHEN THE TANK IS OVER HALF WAY FULL. ACCORDING TO OTHER COMPLAINTS ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM CHRYSLER AND DODGE HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS SAME PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS PUTS MY FAMILY AND I IN GRAVE DANGER BEING THAT OF THE ELECTRICAL WIRE THAT RUN ALONG SIDE THE UNIT. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I FILL MY TANK AND IT IS A CONTINUAL DRIP. OUT OF NO WHERE AND FOR THE PAST 8-10MO., MY 2011 CHARGER HAS BEEN LEAKING FUEL. ANYTIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED WITH FUEL OVER 3/4 FULL, IT LEAKS ONTO THE GROUND OF THE PASSENGER SIDE BACK TIRE AND FUMES FILL THE CABIN, SO BADLY YOU CAN'T DRIVE IT UNLESS ALL THE WINDOWS ARE DOWN, SO YOUR NOT ASPHYXIATED BY THE FUMES. THE FUEL ODOR IS SO BAD THAT YOU COULD SMELL IT FROM A DISTANCE IN MY DRIVE WAY.THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON FOR THIS REASON AND MY A/C RECIRCULATE WILL NOT WORK (AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION), AS WELL AS THE AUTO START ON THE KEY FOB. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE FIRST SEAL. ALL SEAMED TO BE FINE UNTIL I FILLED UP WITH GAS WHICH WAS THE DAY AFTER THE REPAIR. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A SIDE SEAL THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THAT REPAIR DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I GOT UNDER MY CAR TO SEE WHERE IT WAS LEAKING FROM AND HOW MUCH WAS LEAKING AND I SHOT A VIDEO. I COULDN'T ATTACH THE VIDEO, BUT IT APPEARS THAT IT IS LEAKING DIRECTLY FROM THE TANK ITSELF. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON OTHER COMPLAINTS IT IS A MANUFACTURE'S DEFECT OF THE TANK ITSELF, AND OVER TIME CAN NOT SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE FUEL. WITH THE BATTERY AND CABLE'S BEING EXTREMELY CLOSE TO THE LOCATION OF THE TANK AND LEAK, THIS IS AN EXPLOSION WAITING TO HAPPEN. IF SOMEONE DROPS OR LIGHTS A CIGARETTE NEAR OR BY THIS LOCATION IT IS AN EXPLOSION WAITING TO HAPPEN. MERELY STARTING THE VEHICLE IS A RISK. THE INVESTIGATION REGARDING THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ACCELERATED. ITS SAD THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DIE, BEFORE SOMETHING IS RECTIFIED. EVERY TIME I FILL THE CAR UP WITH GAS TO FULL I SMELL FUMES INSIDE THE CAR. ALSO, IF THE CAR IS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHICH IS AT A DOWNWARD SLOPE, FUEL RUNS DOWN THE FUEL LINES AND ONTO THE PAVED BLACKTOP, LEAVING TWO VISIBLY LARGE GASOLINE STAINS. UNTIL THE CAR HAS BURNED OFF HALF OF THE FILLED TANK, THE ODOR OF GASOLINE IS SO STRONG IN THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR IT GIVES ME BAD HEADACHES AND I HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO GET FRESH AIR. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER WHEN I FILLED UP AGAIN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. AFTER KEEPING MY CAR FOR NEARLY 8 HOURS THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL TANK ON THE CAR CANNOT HOLD THE WEIGHT OF A FULL TANK OF GAS WHICH CAUSES A SEPARATION NEAR THE SEAL WHICH IN TURN CAUSES THE LEAK. I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM AND MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO PAY FULL COST TO REPAIR IT. THEY OFFERED TO HELP PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BUT SAID THEY CANNOT FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE IT IS NOT A RECALL AND MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY.

2011 DODGE CHARGER / 82,000 MILES: LEAKING FUEL PUMP/COMPONENT ON PASSENGER SIDE. AFTER A ROUTINE FILL UP AN EXTREMELY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS PRESENT INSIDE OF THE CAR AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. POOL OF GASOLINE PRESENT NEAR REAR TIRE WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED. REMOVAL OF BACKSEAT REVEALED A LARGE PUDDLE OF GASOLINE ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK. FUEL PUMP O-RING WAS REPLACED BUT TO MY DISAPPOINTMENT PROBLEM PERSISTS. CONTACTED DODGE ABOUT ISSUE BUT THEY SAID THERE WERE CURRENTLY NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH FUEL PUMP EQUIPMENT AND COULD NOT POINT ME TOWARDS A CULPRIT. EVEN AT LESS THAN HALF A TANK THE SMELL IS OVERBEARING CAUSING HEADACHES MAKING THE CAR A LITERAL PAIN TO DRIVE. THERE IS A BATTERY CABLE RUNNING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE POOL OF GAS AND THE GAS DRIPS BELOW AROUND HOT EXHAUST. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THIS WAY DUE TO THE RISK OF FIRE OR EXPLOSION. THIS IS A STATIC COMPONENT AND I FEEL THAT IT SHOULD NOT SIMPLY WEAR OUT. THERE IS ANOTHER ISSUE HERE THAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN. NEXT ITEMS TO CHECK WILL BE FUEL PUMP AND TANK ITSELF. EVEN IF ISSUE IS RESOLVED I FEAR THAT THE SMELL WILL REMAIN FOR SOME TIME. REALLY UNFORTUNATE FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS STILL BEING PAID FOR. I HOPE THIS GETS ADDRESSED SOON AS THE FUEL PUMP OR FUEL TANK ARE NOT CHEAP FIXES. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION AFTER VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF THE HONEY COMB SURFACE OF THE FUEL TRANSFER PUMP SEEMS TO BE FILLING WITH GAS AFTER VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF. MECHANIC CONTACTED DODGE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THE HEMI MODELS FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM. HOWEVER NO RECALL IN PLACE FOR THE 6 CYLINDER MODEL. FUEL TRANSFER PUMP REPLACEMENT RECOMMENDED. NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANT. AS THIS FUEL LEAK OCCURS DIRECTLY UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT AND FUEL SEAMS TO PUDDLE IN THIS AREA CAUSING FUEL VAPOR TO ENTER PASSENGER COMPARTMENT THIS SEEMS TO BE A LEGITIMATE SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BY DODGE.

I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR YET ANOTHER REPAIR ONLY FOR THEM TO RUN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC AND FOUND ANOTHER FUEL SYSTEM LEAK. HOWEVER, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO SCHEDULE ME FOR A REPAIR UNTIL SEPTEMBER 1, 2015. AFTER TAKING THE CHARGER IN FOR REPAIR, FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC DISCOVERED THE FUEL FILLER TUBE WAS AT FAULT AND A REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. I HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED AND TWO DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT HAS LIT BACK UP. I HAD TO TRAVEL FOR WORK SO I WILL UPDATE WITH MY NEXT COMPLAINT ONCE IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED.

HUSBAND PULLED THE REAR SEAT OUT ON JULY 11TH TO DISCOVER FUEL POOLING FROM THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER FUEL MODULE, THE GAS WAS LEAKING THROUGH THE PLASTIC. CONTACTED THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. JULY 12TH WE ORDERED A NEW BOSCH PREMIUM FUEL PUMP (PART# 67774). ON JULY 17TH I RAN THE FUEL DOWN SO ONLY 1 GALLON WAS LEFT IN TANK. LET THE CAR SIT FOR 2 HRS. HUSBAND REMOVED THE MAIN PUMP, WHICH FELL APART. UPON REMOVING THE PRIMARY FUEL PUMP (RIGHT SIDE) THE PRESSURE WAS SO STRONG IT BLEW FUEL ALL OVER HIM AND THE INTERIOR OF THE BACK SEAT. THE PUMP HOLDS FUEL PRESSURE FOR WAY TO LONG AFTER IT IS TURNED OFF. NOT TO MENTION THAT THERE IS ONLY 2 PIECES OF PLASTIC/FOAM BETWEEN THE FUEL PUMPS AND THE BACK SEAT. THAT, IN ITSELF IS DANGEROUS. IS THE EXCESSIVE PRESSURE WHAT CAUSED THE PLASTIC FUEL PUMP TO CRACK AND ALLOW THE FUEL TO POOL ON TOP? I LOVE MY CAR BUT AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE IT NOW. I AM NOT ONLY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY BUT ALSO THE SAFETY OF ANYONE SITTING IN THE BACKSEAT (KIDS/GRANDKIDS). WHAT IF I GET REAR ENDED AND THERE IS A SPARK THAT IGNITES THE POOLED FUEL, WILL CHRYSLER THEN ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AFTER MY CAR EXPLODES? I NOTICED A STRONG GAS SMELL IN AND AROUND THE CAR SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AFTER FILLING UP BUT I DID NOT OVERFILL OR SPILL GAS ANYWHERE. AFTER HAVING A MECHANIC DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE HE FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP UNDER THE REAR SEAT ON THE RIGHT SIDE WAS LEAKING AND HAD FUEL POOLING UP AT THE TOP. AS FIRST STEP HE REPLACED THE O-RING SEAL ON THE FUEL UP. AFTER REPLACING THE SEAL THERE WAS NO LEAK INITIALLY BUT IT OCCURRED AGAIN AFTER THE NEXT FILL UP. SO IT SEEMS THE LEAK ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL. SINCE THE SEAL WAS ALREADY REPLACED BUT THE LEAK IS STILL THERE I TOOK IT TO THE DODGE DEALER WHO WILL HAVE TO DIAGNOSE IT FURTHER BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS MOST LIKELY THE GAS TANK THAT IS LEAKING AND THEY HAVE SEEN MANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS ALREADY AND I AM NOT THE FIRST ONE. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT DODGE HAS UPDATED THE FUEL TANK RECENTLY SO OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A FLAW WITH THE OLD DESIGN WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY I AM HAVING PROBLEMS. NOT ONLY IS THIS A COSTLY REPAIR WHICH IS UNFAIR TO CONSUMERS BUT IT POSES DANGER SINCE FUEL IS LEAKING UNDER THE SEAT AND COULD POTENTIALLY IGNITE AND SET THE WHOLE CAR ON FIRE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR AND ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER REPAIR. ALSO, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND A BURNING ODOR. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
