Component: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH A POWER STEERING HOSE THAT IS NOT TO SPECIFICATION. UNDER EXTREME STEERING MANEUVERS, SUCH AS TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL FULLY TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE BRAKING, THE HOSE MAY FRACTURE AND LEAK FLUID.

Risk: IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, POWER STEERING ASSIST WOULD BE LOST AND INCREASED STEERING EFFORT WOULD BE REQUIRED. ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HYDRO-BOOST POWER BRAKES, IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER BRAKE ASSIST AND INCREASED BRAKING EFFORT WOULD BE REQUIRED. IF THE POWER STEERING FLUID SPRAY WERE TO SPRAY ONTO HOT ENGINE PARTS, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR.

Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE POWER STEERING HOSE(S) FOR TWO SUSPECT DATE CODES AND REPLACE THEM IF REQUIRED. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON OCTOBER 14, 2005. criticalSERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Sep 2019

Your rear brake line ruptured suddenly due to severe rust, causing you to lose brakes temporarily until you pumped the pedal and the front brakes stopped the vehicle. The ABS system locked out the rear brakes, leaving only the front brakes functional. Due to extensive rust throughout the entire brake system, you had to replace all steel brake lines from the master cylinder through the ABS module to both the front and rear wheels, as replacing just the ruptured section causes pressure to build and rupture another line elsewhere. The repair involves replacing the complete brake line system rather than attempting to patch individual rusted sections.

Filed: Feb 2017

While driving at low speed, your brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor and the service brakes, stability track, and brake fault warning lights came on. The driver was able to stop safely, but inspection revealed a corroded brake line in the frame had failed, causing a complete loss of braking power. Fixing this will require replacing the damaged brake line and possibly flushing and refilling the brake system.

FireFiled: Nov 2021

Your front passenger side headlight caught fire while parked with the high beam engaged. You were able to extinguish the fire with water bottles, and no one was injured. The issue wasn't diagnosed by a mechanic or reported to the manufacturer. This could involve replacing the headlight assembly and checking the electrical wiring for damage or shorts.

NHTSA #: 11441640
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM
FireFiled: Jan 2017

Your car's heating and air conditioning blower motor resistor has caught fire. This is a critical electrical safety issue that requires immediate attention. The resistor controls the speed of your HVAC fan, and failure can create a fire hazard. You'll need to have the blower motor resistor replaced by a technician right away.

FireFiled: Nov 2015

Your heater shorted out and caused an electrical fire while you were driving on the interstate. You noticed a burning smell with the heat on, then white smoke came from the vents. When you pulled into a parking lot, black smoke poured out and the front of the car was engulfed in flames within a couple of minutes. The issue likely involves a faulty heater blower motor, wiring, or heating element that needs replacement.

Filed: Jul 2023

Your finger got caught when the rear hatch door closed while you were sitting in the cargo area with the third-row seats removed. You couldn't open the window or door from inside to free yourself, which created a dangerous situation. The rear hatch design should allow emergency exit from the inside.

highUNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Feb 2018

Your dashboard lights and speedometer aren't illuminating when you turn on the car. The dashboard has developed cracks on both the driver and passenger sides, particularly above the airbag areas. This is a safety concern because if the passenger-side airbag deploys, the cracked dashboard pieces could become projectiles. The fix may involve replacing the dashboard assembly or having it professionally repaired and reinforced.

Electrical System,air Bags1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
Filed: Dec 2021

Your dashboard lights don't turn on reliably when you start the vehicle—they may illuminate only after you flip the light switch multiple times or tap on the dashboard. Your high-beam headlights are also turning on and off by themselves while you're driving. Additionally, your passenger-side airbag warning light is staying on, which suggests a potential airbag system issue. You'll likely need electrical diagnostics to find loose connections or wiring problems, and possibly airbag system inspection or repair.

NHTSA #: 11443695
Electronic Stability Control (esc),service Brakes1 issue
criticalELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Nov 2019

Your service stability light comes on and your Tahoe becomes immobile—the brakes lock up completely and won't release even in neutral. You've already replaced the ABS module, ABS valves, brake pads, rotors, master cylinder, and booster, but the problem persists and keeps throwing the same error code (C0131) pointing to a rear dump valve failure. The vehicle becomes undrivable and requires towing. Fixing this likely involves diagnosing and replacing the ABS dump valve or addressing underlying wiring/sensor issues in the stability control system.

NHTSA #: 11278220
Electronic Stability Control (esc)1 issue
highELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
Filed: May 2023

Your stability control warning light turns on and off throughout the day, but your mechanic can't find any diagnostic codes to explain why. You've also noticed your truck shakes and vibrates badly when braking, especially at speeds of 70 mph or faster. The stability control system may not be functioning properly, which could affect your vehicle's handling in emergency situations. A mechanic should perform a full diagnostic scan of the stability control system and inspect your brakes and suspension components to find the root cause.

NHTSA #: 11523139
Seats1 issue
highSEATS
Filed: Mar 2019

Your rear seat has a small strap that allows the backrest to fold down so you can access the third row. These straps get stretched out or break over time, making it impossible to fold the seat down. This creates a safety hazard because you can't access the third row seating. The fix will likely involve replacing the seat recline mechanism or the straps themselves.

Steering,electronic Stability Control (esc)1 issue
highSTEERING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
Filed: May 2018

Your Tahoe has difficulty turning right at low speeds and when braking, and it loses traction when turning in rainy conditions even while parked. The steering feels unresponsive in these situations. The issue likely involves the electronic stability control system and may require diagnostic testing of the steering and traction control components.

NHTSA #: 11098326
Air Bags1 issue
highAIR BAGS
Filed: Jan 2018

Your airbag warning light turned on shortly after you bought the vehicle. The indicator light in your rearview mirror that normally shows when the passenger-side airbag is off isn't working properly — it doesn't appear until you've driven about 30 miles, even when there's no passenger in the seat. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the airbag system's occupancy sensor or the indicator light circuit.

NHTSA #: 11061358
Seat Belts1 issue
highSEAT BELTS
Filed: Aug 2016

The second-row seat belts in your Tahoe aren't retracting properly and are twisting inside their housings, making them difficult or impossible to use. You've noticed this problem on both the passenger and driver sides of the second row—after unbuckling, the belts won't retract on their own and have to be manually pushed back into the housing, and they can twist and get stuck when you try to use them again. Fixing this will likely require replacing the seat belt retractor assemblies.

Wheels1 issue
highWHEELS
Filed: Aug 2016

Your spare tire is held up under the truck by a security latch that gets stuck when it gets wet, preventing you from lowering the spare tire to the ground when you need it. This forces you to call a tow truck every time you get a flat tire instead of being able to change it yourself. The latch may need to be replaced or freed up with penetrating oil to restore proper function.

Power Train,air Bags1 issue
highPOWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS
Filed: Dec 2015

Your Service Air Bag and Service 4WD warning lights are staying on. You've found recalls for these issues, but your vehicle's VIN doesn't appear in those recall databases. Online videos suggest a common problem involves the spring in the transfer case for the 4WD issue. The fix will likely require a dealer inspection to diagnose the air bag sensor issue and transfer case spring replacement for the 4WD warning.

NHTSA #: 10817229
Fuel/propulsion System1 issue
highFUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Sep 2015

Your fuel gauge showed half a tank right after you filled up your tank, and you noticed fuel leaking underneath the vehicle while driving at 30 mph. A mechanic found that the fuel line had corroded and needed to be replaced. The repair was completed at 81,285 miles.
