Your Tahoe's ABS brake system has been non-functional since it had only 130 miles on the odometer, and the brakes have failed to engage properly on multiple occasions, nearly causing accidents including one near a cliff. A diagnostic at a Chevy dealer confirmed the ABS system is defective and requires $2,000 to repair. You may experience a situation where pressing the brake pedal fully causes the vehicle to accelerate rather than slow down, which is a serious safety hazard.

NHTSA #: 11424146
criticalSERVICE BRAKES
Filed: May 2018

Your rear brake lines rusted through and failed while driving at 50 mph on the highway, causing your brake pedal to go to the floor with no braking response. You had to pump the brakes and steer to the shoulder to avoid hitting the car in front of you. Your mechanic recommended replacing all brake lines due to rust, which cost over $600 for your truck with only 41,000 miles. The repair will involve replacing the rusted steel brake lines with new ones throughout the brake system.

NHTSA #: 11092124
criticalSERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Oct 2017

Your brake line connecting the ABS system to the rear brakes has corroded and started leaking fluid near the rear left wheel. In this case, the leak was discovered after the vehicle was already safely parked, but brake fluid loss can reduce your braking power or cause complete brake failure while driving. The repair will likely involve replacing the corroded steel brake line with a new one.

NHTSA #: 11033882
criticalSERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Jul 2017

Your brake lines have rusted and corroded, causing them to burst without warning. One owner lost all braking power on the highway when a brake line failed, forcing them to swerve off the road to avoid a collision. The brake lines are positioned in an area of the vehicle prone to rust and corrosion. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the corroded brake lines with new ones.

NHTSA #: 11003703

Filed: Nov 2016

Your brake pedal lost pressure and went to the floor while driving on snowy roads, leaving you with virtually no braking power even though the ABS activated. You were able to steer to safety, but the brakes failed completely during a turn at low speed. The repair will likely involve inspecting and replacing brake system components like the master cylinder or brake lines to restore full braking function.

Your emergency brake wears out on its own without being used, and when you actually need it, it doesn't work. This is a safety concern since the emergency brake may fail to hold your vehicle if needed.

NHTSA #: 11324214

Filed: Dec 2017

Your ABS warning light is illuminated on your dashboard. When you press the brake pedal, you hear a noise and feel the pedal push back slightly under your foot. This suggests an issue with your anti-lock braking system that should be diagnosed by a mechanic who can scan the ABS system for fault codes.

NHTSA #: 11056006

Filed: Feb 2017

Your ABS (anti-lock braking system) is activating at very low speeds—around 10 mph or less—whenever you slow down or come to a stop, causing your brakes to lock up. This makes normal stopping dangerous and unpredictable. The ABS system likely needs diagnostic testing to identify a faulty sensor or module that's triggering it inappropriately.

Filed: Apr 2017

Your anti-lock braking system is jerking and making noise when you brake at slow speeds. This is happening intermittently and could indicate a problem with the ABS system components. You should have the anti-lock brake system inspected and likely repaired or serviced.

FireFiled: Jul 2025

Your rear air conditioning blower motor on the passenger side caught fire while you were driving, completely destroying the vehicle. You noticed flames coming from the back seat area while on the highway, creating a serious safety risk. The fire required firefighters to extinguish it, and there were no warning lights on your dashboard before it happened. Addressing this would require replacement of the blower motor assembly and inspection of the electrical wiring that caused the fire.

Filed: Apr 2025

While braking at 35 mph, your Tahoe suddenly pulled hard to the left, nearly causing you to lose control. Both the ABS and brake warning lights came on. A mechanic diagnosed that the EBCM motor relay circuit—which controls your anti-lock braking system—needed replacement.

NHTSA #: 11654808
Power Train1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN
Filed: Jul 2021

Your transmission has failed — reverse gear works, but all forward gears are not functioning. This means your vehicle cannot move forward and will need professional transmission repair or replacement.

Suspension,wheels1 issue
criticalSUSPENSION,WHEELS
Filed: Sep 2018

While turning onto a street at 5 mph in a residential neighborhood, your truck's right side suddenly dropped, causing the tire and axle to roll into another parked car. This suggests a suspension failure on the right side of the vehicle. The suspension system may need inspection and repair to prevent this from happening again.

criticalSTRUCTURE,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Apr 2018

Your brake lines from the master cylinder to the distribution block rusted through, causing your brake pedal to sink to the floor while driving at 50 mph—you lost braking ability and ran through a stop sign. You also have significant rust damage on the lower body panels on both sides of the truck. The repair will require replacing the rusted brake lines and likely inspecting the entire brake system to ensure it's functioning properly.

FireFiled: Dec 2017

Your passenger seat caught fire while parked at a mall, with no engine running. After adjusting the passenger seat for comfort, you noticed smoke and sparks coming from a black box (motor box) under the seat. The fire department extinguished the fire and reported that faulty electrical wiring in the seat motor caused the ignition. The repair will likely require replacement of the seat motor assembly and inspection of all electrical connections to the seat adjusters.

Electronic Stability Control (esc)1 issue
criticalELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
Filed: Jul 2017

Your Tahoe is displaying an error code C01960 and showing ABS and brake warning lights almost daily while driving. When you try to stop or turn left, your brakes feel like they're slipping or locking up, similar to sliding on ice, which makes it difficult to stop safely. This issue is likely related to a malfunction in your anti-lock brake system or electronic stability control that needs professional diagnosis and repair.

Tires1 issue

Filed: Jun 2022

All four of your Achilles desert hawk tires experienced internal separation (where the tire layers come apart) within two years and under 10,000 miles of driving. You first noticed vibration about 10 months after installation, found the driver's front tire separated, and then the other three tires failed over the following months. Neither Walmart, Discount Tire, nor Achilles provided assistance or replacement. A manufacturer defect in the tire design or materials is likely the cause, and the tire replacement or refund would need to be pursued through a warranty claim or legal action against Achilles or Walmart.

Seat Belts1 issue
highSEAT BELTS
Filed: Apr 2019

Your front passenger seat belt locks up and won't adjust properly—it keeps getting tighter after you fasten it and doesn't allow any movement, making it very uncomfortable. This has been happening since you bought the vehicle in 2001, and the dealership says there's no recall for this issue. The fix will likely involve inspecting the seat belt retractor mechanism and potentially replacing the belt assembly or retractor unit.
