2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Electrical Problems

An electrical component related to the vehicle's rear sliding glass window and rear defroster malfunctioned and overheated, causing smoke to fill the cabin of the truck as it was being driven down a busy highway. Immediately following the smoke, the rear window violently shattered due to overheating from the malfunction.

Number one electrical system left side wire harness manufacturer installed in properly, not watertight and ran through a pinch point causing wires to break. Safety was put at risk due to power failure from fuel pump and brake lights failing which could’ve caused a potential accident. Been confirmed by an independent service center.

The following Recalls were found on Kelly bluebook, that matched the issues I have been having with my vehicle perfectly. When calling the recall center, they stated my vehicle year 2018 Chevy Silverado and serial number were not listed for this but it's the exact diagnosis of what I'm experiencing.

turned on rear window defrost and unit started smoking badly with a chemical smell while driving truck. I pushed button to turn rear defrost off so it wouldn't start on fire but the unit had heated up so badly it shattered the window it was touching.

Vehicle started to fill with smoke. I exited vehicle to look in the back seat when all of a sudden the rear window exploded causing glass to come flying at me. There was a recall for this exact same issue, however gm says this vehicle is not included in it.

Radio changing channels by itself, menus changing by itself, instrument screen changing from info to audio by itself, calls being made to last number by itself, navigation image jumping to different areas by itself not showing the vehicles location, causing confusion when trying to get directions.

Trailer brake system failure we noticed the sudden drainage of power resulting in death of battery multiple times alert was present after we notice the loss in voltage in battery to battery drainage after research I found that it is usually a short or a bad wiring harness which causes this and could pose a danger considering how I at one point in time have trilled things this could be an issue and a danger to others on the road

While waiting to order a morning coffee at a local coffee shop drive thru (stationary), the rear defrost/defogger caused one of the glass panels of the rear windshield/back glass to shatter/explode. There was also smoke & an unmistakable electrical burning smell present at that time.

When the vehicle was started, a loud squealing sound was heard coming from the vicinity of the front of the engine. While under the oem bumper to bumper warranted period, chevrolet dealer number one was not able to determine the problem or repair it. Furthermore, the problem was not reported in the vehicle history as reported.

Been having voltage issues for a couple of days where my lights dim and volt gauge drops and raises while driving or stationary dealer said it's normal also hard down shifting while driving not letting off the gas assistant brakes have failed and clunk hard sometimes when stopping or press hard back at me through the pedal again dealer said it's normal I pulled my truck out from the back of the house to the front shut it off to go get ready for work a couple minutes later my daughter informed me my truck was over heating I went to door to find smoke pouring out of my truck from under the hood grab a fire extinguisher run out pop the hood and the whole passenger side of compartment is in flames how does a vehicle that's not running start on fire?

The rear defroster light is flickering. This is a known recall in canada for this same year, make and model. This is a fire hazard.

Bought the truck new. Never towed a trailer till well after warranty. Service trailer brake light keeps coming on continuously.

Truck will lose all power, everything will shut off, and then come right back on. It has happened while accelerating into traffic, slowing down turning right and turning left, and while moving straight ahead. It has been in the shop once for this same issue and they tell me they cannot find anything wrong with it.

Radio quit working and truck would not start took it to dealership they ordered new radio and then later installed it still dident work ordered module for it told them truck was shorting out and would not start and asked them if I should leave it on battery charger over night so it would start in morning they said yes keep doing that until part came in it did and they fixed it a month ago was at mall truck uould not start tried it again still nothing took key out waited couple minutes and it started then seatbelt stuck in door and went through door panel at home depot took it to dealership they said it was a safety issue an could fix the seat belt but not the door because I put black silicone on door to cover hole and now the headliner where you put your sunglasses is falling down worried I bought a lemon but not sure because this is my first new truck and it seems like there's a delay when you let of the gas and it stops giving the engine gas

Since the original submission, General Motors Product Assistance Claims verbally denied responsibility, refused to inspect the vehicle, refused to provide written confirmation of their denial, and ceased responding to emails and calls.

To Whom It May Concern, Below is my support statement regarding recurring safety and reliability issues observed in the vehicle over an extended period: 1. Sensor Malfunction and Resulting Damage The front and rear proximity sensors exhibit repeated failures. During reversing, the system issues false warnings when no obstruction is present.

Doors automatically lock with the keys in the ignition and running locking in anyone who is still in vehicle who cannot open to door physically. It will also prevent you from entering the vehicle without a second set of keys or other methods of unlocking the door (onstar, locksmith). This could put occupants in danger and exposed to the elements unexpectedly and also place inside children in danger. Diagnosis - Keyfob - If battery in keyfob is low, the programming of the vehicle is set to automatically lock even if vehicle is in the ignition and running. when unlocking vehicle with the defective fob, vehicle will unlock, then immediately lock preventing entry. Remedy - Replace battery in key fob and truck works as normal.

The contact stated that during the brief failure, the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Entire system (everything) shut down without warning, sometimes kick back on, and other times not at all. Extremely dangerous as it will occur no matter traveling on highway or turning a corner in a parking lot. There are discussion boards in which many people have experienced this problem and clearly it is because of "Bad Battery Cables" and common within the 2014-2018 models.

Rear window defrogger overheated and caused the back electric sliding window to shatter and when door was closed the window blew out!

The component or system that failed or malfunctioned, FUEL PUMP ( METAL FLAKING IN FUEL SYSTEM ) has caused 1 or more CYLINDERS to FAIL. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety as well as the safety of many other motorists was put at high risk due to the fact that I had a 40ft.

Warning light came on today 08/17/23-trailer break system-while driving. I don't pull nor haul anything with this vehicle, it stays parked.. I feel that this is a defect in the wiring system and need to be recalled on this issue.

The control module for the passenger side air bag failed. A warning light depicting the air bag was continuously displayed until the module was replaced According to the dealer service department, the air bag would fail to deploy with this failure.

Service parking brake system keeps coming on, switch has been replaced and it still comes on. I have had the traction control light and service ABS light come on. Took to shop they told me there was a broken wire the first two times in the harness

The hood latch sensor has gone out and says that my hood is open when it is not. The problem is that the security alarm reads it as someone’s tampering with my hood and sets off my alarm. At this time i am unable to lock my truck because the alarm constantly goes off. The dealer has said this is happening so often that the part is severely back ordered.

The service stabiltrak and trailer brake system warming light comes on. The dealership said that it is a wire harness

While driving in the daytime voltage at the dash dropped almost 9 volts but when I turn the headlights on, it goes back up to 14 volts I’ve had this problem since I got the truck January 5, 2022

I have done some research and found other trucks same year and make have had the same problem and have had recalls but the problem is when I hit the break the lights will all flash like the truck is going to stall and it will say service trailer break system and stablitrak system and will even shut my truck off while I’m driving causing me to have to either pull of the side of the road and start my truck back up

Faulty injector connectors get a loose connection and make truck shutter and check engine light come on . This has happened 3 times already and had to replace one faulty plug . This is all over the internet from other l5p owners. Yet gmc want do anything

I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 4WD, Crew Cab truck purchased brand new in 2018. Over the last year, I have had intermittent, and relentless chiming of the "Service Trailer Brake System". This occurs any time, completely randomly during normal, everyday driving and while NOT towing.

Service Trailer brake system audible message appearing due to faulty wire harness between body control modules.

For months now, my 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 has a “service trailer brake system”notification on the the dash that repeatedly pops up every 5-15 seconds while the vehicle is on, including while driving. This, along with the pinging sound that comes with the notification, makes the vehicle difficult to drive due to the constant distraction the notification makes.

10 degrees outside starter motor will freeze up and not want to start the truck. had 3 mechanics not a deal all look at it, tested the battery and came to the starter motor is defective. to have the starter replaced at the dealer for its under warranty.

While driving at approximately 65 MPH all electronics shut off and turned back on moments later. This includes the gauges, radio and all lights including headlights. I took it to the dealership in which I purchased the truck from.

This truck has so many issues first one was a fuel pump sending unit and it appears to be linked in with a lin data base? I had it repaired was good now it pops on again but its saying it can be something in the lin system sad todays cars are just filling up the junk yards and charging 50k for a new one its sadly piss poor quality

Air conditioning went out twice, brake pedal hard and wheel bearing noise from rear becoming louder after dealer said it was okay

The radio will come on by itself with the truck shut off and keys out of the ignition. The radio changes songs on its own, freezes up and repeats music from ipod(s). Tried 4 different ipods, 2 different cables.

Currently there is a recall for same make of my vechile but not this VIN, and issue is the same with my vechile. Breaks when pressed kicks back at me. And will hear a back kick.

The trailer brake signal will alert an unnecessary amount of times randomly.

At random the touch screen/radio will continuously switch through screens and apps while operating and will become extremely warm to the touch. The display screen on the instrument panel will also scroll through randomly. The heat will stay on continuously even though it is off.

My trailer brake system service light is on. This is due to a faulty wire harness. This issue is also causing the Stabilitrak service light to appear.

Radio will not let you use part of the screen that controls the phone system. Can not use hands free calling. Cannot us any buttons on the bottom of the radio or the left side.

While driving down the road, I received several non stop alert messages stating "Service Trailer Brake System". The messages were non stop and while I did attempt to acknowledge them and dismiss the alert, I was distracted from driving and had to pull over to attempt to acknowledge or dismiss the alert. After several minutes, I was able to dismiss the alert and continue on my way.

Radio is malfunctioning. Radio would randomly change channels. Than the radio would have a line in the bottom of the screen.

A faulty internal computer constantly beeps a warning about "trailer brake system" when there is no trailer attached to the vehicle. The beeping is extremely hyperactive and non stop and distracts you from safe driving and interrupts all other audible functions (such as turn signal blinking & navigation voice commands) to render the vehicle unfit to drive.

Rear Back up camera not working. Blue Screen on dash. This is a very common issue with GM

The rear driver side lamp started flickering and eventually was completely dead. On inspecting, it was found that the earthing brown wire pin in the connector was completely burnt and it also burnt the area right on the spot where it connects to the lamp panel.

Circulating air does not engage, toxic fumes enter cabin. Almost causing me to black out, I have thrown up. Have complained,, but chevy calls this "usual or expected" Have read on forums that I'm not the only one dealing with this.

Trailer Brake Service Warning

Twice now GM has recalled the block heater for my truck. The first remedy did not fix the issue and had to be recalled again. This was back in July 2021.

Truck loses power driving down the road. The service trailer brake system warning comes on the dash. The battery dies because of this also.

Hood latch sensor throws an engine fault code. The code says it cant determine if the hood is open or closed. After about 2 weeks the hood latch sensor keeps faulting every 1 second to 4 seconds for an extended period of time.

The DIC and infotainment both change settings on their own. It will change radio stations or call people on the infotainment and the DIC will change information displayed. The safety issue is it will also flash that the trailer has been disconnected/connected and when it thinks the trailer has been disconnected the trailer brakes will fail to function.

This has happened twice. The vehicle will not shift into gear, the power steering doesn't work, and other electronic options do not work. This has only happened when the vehicle is stationary.

Passenger front window auto up broke and almost completely severed a adult males ring fing tip. In a parking lot the window went up 'using auto up'. A friend was getting in the truck and had his finger unfortunately in the way the window did not stop after coming into contact with his finger and it was almost completely severed at the tip.
