2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Brakes Problems

Brake assist issues occured while in the mountains. It was difficult to brake almost causing an accident. It appears to be a bad brake vacuum pump.

excessive squealing noise coming from rear brakes from both sides of truck. I am original owner, and truck has less then 15,571 miles on it. Drove it to Chevrolet dealer in Kingsland Ga to evaluate.

I was at a drive through lane yesterday. My truck became hard to slow down and stop. I had to push the brake pedal very hard to stop to avoid crashing the car in front of me.

Backing up from my driveway, my brakes fail. The brake pedal was very hard, I had to pressed multiple times until vehicle came to a stop. It was a very scary moment almost rear ended car park on the street.

On 10/26/2019, the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado was being driven in heavy traffic on the 134/210 Freeway area of Glendale, California. The truck was going 10 MPH, and when the driver went to stop, the brake petal pressed to the floor, resulting in a rear end collision with the car in front of it.

MY WIFE HAD COMMENTED ON MY BRAKES FEELING SPONGY. AT LOW ENGINE RPM THE BRAKE FORCE BECOMES EXTREMELY EXCESSIVE. Brakes become hard apply and will not stop. Had to utilize the emergency brakes to avoid a collision.

I believe the proposed solution is not fixing the problem.

When pressing the brakes at low speeds such as in a drive thru or parking lot, there is a pressure loss in the brakes. This requires significantly increased braking pressure to stop. Failures are associated with a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment or vibration in the pedals.

Brakes have fluttered intermittently for the past few months at low speeds, feels like ABS pulsing. In the past week to 10 days, brake pedal feels "dead" when I apply brakes at low speed, has gone to floor with no response to braking input. Yesterday, when pulling in driveway towards garage, maybe 3 MPH, applied brakes with no response.

I noticed a ticking noise from my engine compartment while stationary, and began experiencing a vibrating brake pedal/noise when braking at low speed (in driveway or parking lot). Vehicle was recalled for increased brake pressure at low RPM. Recall service performed at dealer. Vehicle still has increased brake effort issue after service was completed.

Vehicle loses braking ability when in a slow-speed situation, such as when parking, going through a drive-through restaurant, or when in stop-and-go traffic. Brake pedal will go to the floor when the situation occurs. A noise may occur that appears to be the anti-lock braking system trying to engage.

My 2017 silverado is experiencing a very hard brake pedal at slow speeds. I took it into the dealership in october 2019 for the recall pertaining to this issue where they reprogram the braking unit. I had taken it in for that recall just as a preventative measure but now 4 months later I have a very hard brake pedal at slow speeds.

Recalled at dealership for brake software adjustment. After recall brake peddal periodiaclly in hot weather compresses co.pletly to floor and makes loud squeeking sound. Truck is hard to stop when this happens.

Safety recall calibration to vapor brake system done. After recall completed brakes when pumped more than 1 time the brake pedal recedes to lowest level before stopping and other instances brake pedal only compresses down slightly with increased effort to stop. A load squeaking noise is associated with brake pedal going down far to floorboard.

CALLED DEALER, SERVICE TECH SAYS KNOWN ISSUE, GM HAS ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO THIS MODEL TO REPAIR/REPLACE THE PART KNOWN TO BE FAULTY. TECH SAID GM SHOULD HAVE MAILED A LETTER SAYING THAT IF, AND ONLY IF THE BRAKES FAILED OR BECAME HARD TO PRESS, BRING VEHICLE IN. IF THERE HAD BEEN A PEDESTRIAN OR VEHICLE CLOSE, I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM. BRINGING VEHICLE IN AFTER THE FACT WOULD BE TOO LATE. MY VEHICLE QUALIFIED FOR THE FREE REPAIR SO IT IS BEING REPAIRED NOW.

AND AT LOW SPEED, I PULLED FORWARD STOPPED AND STARTED BACKING IN TO THE SPACE, I THEN PULLED FORWARD TO STRAIGHTEN OUT AND WHEN I WENT TO STOP THIS TIME THE PEDAL WAS HARD. I WAS BARLEY ROLLING AND HAD BOTH FEET PUSHING ON THE PEDAL AND STOPPED JUST IN TIME TO NOT HIT A PARKED CAR. THEN I BACKED INTO THE SPACE AND AGAIN A HARD PEDAL WITH VIRTUALLY NO BRAKES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE OCCURRING TOO SOON BASED ON THE YEAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. GOING FROM 40 TO 5MPH BREAKS FEEL LIKE IS LOCKING FOR COUPLE OF SECOND AND BACK TO NORMAL,ANY SPEED BEFORE STOPS TRUCK HAS A LITTLE HESITATION BEFORE BREAKING.

I WAS PARKING MY TRAVEL TRAILER ON A CAMP SITE AND READJUSTING. I PULLED AHEAD DOWN A SLIGHT INCLINE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR IN THE TRUCK. I PUSHED THE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD AND STOPPED JUST BEFORE HITTING ANOTHER CAMPER. PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND TRIED THE BRAKES AGAIN AND THE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS BACK. I WAS THEN ABLE TO FINISH ADJUSTING AND IT DID NOT HAVE THE BRAKE ISSUE AGAIN. IT WAS VERY SCARY WITH KIDS AROUND ETC.

FUEL INJECTOR OR FUEL PUMP DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. ON TWO (2) DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, MONTHS APART, MY ENGINE HAS LOST POWER AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. BOTH TIMES AT LOW SPEEDS 10 - 15 MPH AND LOW RPMS. THIS HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO ONE VEHICLE AND FOR ANOTHER TO ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND AS MY CAR DIED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN OFF A BUSY ROAD. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED IN TWICE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP AND GM BOTH SAY UNLESS THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE ISSUE THEY WILL NOT FIX OR REPLACE ANYTHING. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED/REVIEWED. ON TOP OF THIS, THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE VACUUM PUMP FOR THE BRAKES AND DO A SOFTWARE PATCH UPDATE BECAUSE THE BACKUP CAMERA WAS DANGEROUSLY BRIGHT, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. THE CAMERA ISSUE TOOK 2 VISITS TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO GET RESOLVED. GM IS PLAYING THE NUMBERS GAME OF HOPING FOR A FINE INSTEAD OF PAYING TO REPLACE ANY PARTS. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE DEALING WITH A PR BATTLE ABOUT MAKING CARS OUTSIDE OF THE USA. THEY TOOK THE BAILOUT MONEY AND SCREWED AMERICANS.

BACKING UP MY TRUCK, AT SLOW SPEED DOWN A BOAT RAMP, MY BRAKE PEDAL AUTHORITY WENT TO ZERO. I HAD NO BRAKES DURING BACKING MY BOAT IN GULF OF MEXICO. I HAD TO STAND ON PEDAL WITH ALL OF MY WEIGHT JUST TO SLOW IT LONG ENOUGH SO I COULD PUT ON PARKING BRAKE. I CALLED DEALER TO INQUIRE IF THIS WAS A PROBLEM, AND THEY SAID I HAD TO WAIT TWO WEEKS TO EVEN GET IT IN THERE TO LOOK AT IT. UNACCEPTABLE. LOSS OF BRAKING CAN KILL OCCUPANTS IN THESE VEHICLES. IN MY CASE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER WATER AND POSSIBLY DROWNED.

MY WIFE TOOK THE SERVICE RECALL LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALERSHIP (SANTA FE CHEVROLET/CADILLAC IN SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO) INFORMED MY WIFE THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE HAS 70,00 MILES THEY WOULD NOT SERVICE THE RECALL FOR FREE AND INSTEAD WOULD CHARGE US $960 DOLLARS. SUBSEQUENTLY WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE IN OVER SIX WEEKS. THIS IS SIMPLY UNTENABLE. PLEASE HELP US AS IT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE THIS VEHICLE. LOSS OF BRAKES WHEN BACKING UP. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES DURING LOW SPEED REVERSE OR WHEN BACKING DOWN AN INCLINE, THE BRAKES BECAME VERY HARD TO DEPRESS AND DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE DOWN UNTIL I EXERTED CONSIDERABLE FORCE WITH BOTH LEGS. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHEN REVERSING WITH A TRAILER AND WHEN REVERSING WITHOUT A TRAILER. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRED ON MAY 17, 2019 WHEN BACKING A BOAT AND TRAILER DOWN AN INCLINE AT A BOAT LAUNCH RAMP. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT ENTERED THE WATER, BUT IT TOOK CONSIDERABLE FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I ALERTED THE DEALERSHIP, KOLAR CHEVROLET DULUTH, OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE TWICE IN 2018 AND AGAIN MOST RECENTLY ON MAY 23, 2019. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND STATED THEY WOULD NOT TAKE FURTHER ACTION UNLESS THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE.

RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET ADVISING OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH BRAKES, INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE AND STOPPING DISTANCE. WENT TO DEALER AND WAS INFORMED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED AT MY EXPENSE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. CHEVROLET CORPORATE INFORMED ME THIS WAS CORRECT. This morning at low speed stop and go traffic and again when low speed parking the black pedal became hard to push and car would not stop properly. Happened both directions while parking. Will take to the dealer this afternoon.

Upon reversing the vehicle and apply the brake, as if in a parking lot or driveway, if pushing the brake pedal more than twice the pedal becomes hard and the vehicle becomes hard to stop without and excessive amount of force being applied to the brake pedal. If depressing the brake pedal more than 3 times, it is almost impossible to stop the vehicle with it coasting several feet.

On many occasions, at low speeds approx 5 MPH. The brake booster fails and braking is hard and ABS kicks in.

I had our pick up inspected today and the mechanic asked about our brakes being hard to push. I explained It has been that way for some time. He informed me that GM had a recall for this safety issue but as of this moment it doesn’t cover our specific pick up.

The problem started about 3 days ago I was driving to work and I was coming to a stop at a red light then it said “trailer brake system” and then it completely shut my truck off and my brakes were really hard and my steering wheel was stiff then another day it did the same thing and after it was telling me all my blinker were about to go out.

While starting from a park position, I was pulling into a parking space. I went to apply the brake and the brake pedal went to the floor where the vehicle did not stop immediately. This is happened three times.

In slow driving the braking system is requires significant effort and requires increased distance to stop. service braking system message comes across the dash and goes away after a restart of the vehicle. GM has a recall for this issue but will not perform the programming required a second time despite it being a known manufactures defect.

The truck at low speeds, In parking lots the brake pedal gets stiff. Only when I hit the gas the brake assist engages. Brake pedal gets super stiff almost as if it doesnt want to brake.

Trailer Brake system warning keeps flashing on my display even though I am not towing anything behind my truck. Now I am worried to tow my camper or my boat behind my truck do to this unknown issue, I was told by GM that it may have something to do with a cable assembly harness. When braking and vehicle is slowing to a stop engine speeds up just before stopping and vehicle surges forward necessitating increased pressure on brake pedal. Happens every time vehicle is coming to a stop. Extremely disconcerting proceeding down a steep hill.
