AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured April 25, 2008 through February 16, 2010. The front passenger seat frame may contact and damage the wires of the passenger presence sensor module.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will double wrap the wires with anti-abrasion tape and replace damaged wires as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 1, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-521-7300. GM's recall campaign number is 36110.

GM IS RECALLING 79 MY 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT AIR BAG INFLATOR THAT COULD FRACTURE AT AN INFLATOR TUBE DURING A DEPLOYMENT.

We bought a vehicle as is from a dealer and when we drove away the air bag comes on and off
The service airbag light comes on in the dash. Whether someone is in the passenger seat or not, the light came one and it stays on most of the time. I looked up recalls for my vin, and it wasn’t included in the previous recall. (recall number 36110 passenger presence sensor and instrument cluster) But it has the same issue as all of the other 2009 Chevrolet Impalas recalled for the same exact thing. I purchased this car in December 2020 from the state of Michigan so I am the second owner. My vin should be covered under the recall. I need it fixed and it’s no okay that as dealership won’t cover my vehicle and it has the same issue. Why didn’t Chevrolet just recall ALL of this year, regardless of vin? GM saving money at the cost of mine and my families safety is not okay!

I have taken my vehicle to Lannon-Woburn several time and they fix the airbag issue but it always turns back on????? Clearly there is an issue here.

I HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON AND STAYING ON. I HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED BUT I SEE THAT MY VEHICLE ISN'T UNDER RECALL. B001B PASSENGER PRETENSIONER DEPLOYMENT LOOP 2 OPEN. 3. B001B PASSENGER PRETENSIONER DEPLOYMENT LOOP 2 HIGH RESISTANCE 4. B001B PASSENGER PRETENSIONER DEPLOYMENT LOOP 2 HIGH RESISTANCE IT APPEARS SOME 2009 IMPALAS WERE RECALLED REGARDING THE SIDE PASSENGER AIRBAG WIRING AND THIS ONE MAY BE RELATED.

THIS RECALL FOR PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM HARNESS WAS REPLACED IN 2016 AND REPLACED WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART STILL SHOWING THE AIRBAG RECALL LIGHT NO DEALER WILL FIX THIS DEFECTIVE RECALL REPLACEMENT AND GENERAL MOTORS KEEPS SAYING I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. ONLY 600 MILES HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THE CAR SINCE THE REPLACEMENT AND NO ONE WILL RESPOND. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MY MOTHER OWNED THE CAR AND IT WAS TRANSFERRED TO ME.

I HAVE PROBLEM WITH AIR BAG , AIR BAG LIGHT POP UP BY IT SELF AND CLOSE BY IT SELF. IT'S NOT WORKING PROPERLY.

FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO I HAVE DEALT WITH SEVERAL ISSUES THAT STARTED HAPPENING ALL OF A SUDDEN AND ALL AT ONCE. FOR STARTERS, MY AIR BAG INDICATOR COME ON AND OFF WHEN I DRIVE AT ANY SPEED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC COULD NOT DIAGNOSE IT AND THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE IT AND ALL HE SAID WAS I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY AIR BAGS WHICH WOULD HAVE COST ROUGHLY $3400.00. IN ADDITION TO THAT, MY ABS INDICATOR BEGAN GOING ON AND OFF AND HAS CAUSED MY CAR TO FEEL AS IF IT WAS ON A HYDROPLANE MODE. WHEN IT TURNS ON IT OCCASIONALLY MAKES MY CAR JERK ON THE ROAD. I WENT TO AN AUTO SUPPLY STORE FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO READING SO NOTHING WAS WRONG, DEALERSHIP SAID THE SAME. THE LIGHT SHUT OFF AND IT WAS LIKE DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN. ALSO, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE DOOR ACTUATORS AT LEAST ONE TO TWO TIMES A YEAR BECAUSE THEY CONTINUE TO BREAK. FINALLY, MY NEW BATTERIES THE LAST FEW OF YEARS HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY DRAINED FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND I HAD TO REPLACE IT SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO DAMAGED BATTERIES EVEN THOUGH I REPLACE IT WITH BRAND NEW CAR BATTERIES.

AT AROUND 140,000 MILES I NOTICED MY SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON AND OFF. OVERTIME IT CONTINUED TURNING ON AND OFF STAYING ON MORE FREQUENT THAN BEING OFF. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL THAT AFFECTED THE AIRBAGS. THEY TOLD ME THEY JUST HAD TO WRAP SOME WIRES THAT GO UNDERNEATH THE SEAT AND THAT WAS IT. HOWEVER THIS DID NOT TURN MY AIRBAG LIGHT OFF AND I HAVE GOTTEN NO HELP FROM ANY DEALERSHIP OR ONLINE FORUMS. I BELIEVE CHEVY SHOULD RECALL THIS AS MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS WITH IMPALAS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. AS TO THE SEAT PROBLEM. WHERE MY SEAT COMES TOGETHER AT THE LOW BACK, IT SHIFTS AND MOVES AROUND. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD FIX IT AT $900. THE COST WAS 802.05. GM HAD RECALL 36110 FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 08/2016. THEY ARE ONLY WILLING TO PAY 115.96. I THINK THEY OWE ME THE TOTAL AMOUNT. I HAVE CALLED THEM NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE GOT NO WHERE. MY CASE NUMBER IS 8-2766201672. THE CAR WAS MOVING WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY THE LIGHT CAME ON BUT WHEN I SHUT OFF THE CAR IT WOULD GO AWAY. THIS HAS KEPT HAPPENING BUT SINCE YESTERDAY IT IS CONSTANT. I CALLED THE DEALER AND GM AND BOTH SAY THEY ISSUES ARE NOT RELATED. BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE ON LINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE SECOND RECALL WAS FOR A PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONS AND LOSS OF AIR BAGS! GM IS VERY BLAISE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY. THIS IS ANOTHER ISSUE IN A LONG LIST OF PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THE IMPALA. TWO OUT OF FOUR DOOR LOCKS DO NOT WORK UNLESS YOU MANUALLY OPEN THEM, ONE OF MY SEAT WARMERS DOES NOT FUNCTION, ETC... THIS IS A POORLY MADE VEHICLE AND THE ISSUES ARE SAFETY IN NATURE.

CHEV RECALL #16V507000 REPORTED A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SEAT SIDE. I REPORTED THAT I HAD THE RECALL NOTICE BUT THAT I ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG BUT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON, I COULD GET IT TO TURN OFF BY MOVING THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK AND FORTH AND/OR UP AND DOWN. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM REPORTED IN THE RECALL FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT. AT THE DEALERSHIP,THE CAR COMPUTER VERIFIED THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG PROBLEM. WHEN I TOOK THE CARE IN FOR THE RECALL, THEY CHECKED THE PASSENGER SEAT WIRING UNDER WARRANTY BUT CHARGED ME $130.12 TO GET THE DRIVER'S SEAT WIRING FIXED. THEY SAID THE RECALL WAS ONLY FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT. SEEMS GM DOESN'T CARE IF THE DRIVER GETS KILLED OR INJURED.

WITH ALL THE CURRENT RECALLS FOR THE TAKADE AIR BAGS, WHY ARE THESE AIR BAG DEFECTS ON THE CHEVOLET IMPALA'S NOT BEING RECALLED. THEY PRESENT A REAL DANGER TO PASSENGERS IN THESE CARS. I TOOK THE CAR TO HANK GRAFF CHEVROLET IN DAVISON, MI FOR WARRANTY WORK AND THE SERVICE AIRBAG SOON LIGHT WAS ON. THEY REPLACED SEATBELT TENSIONER ON THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE LIGHT REMAINED OFF FOR A MONTH. NOW THE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN AND THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD STAND BEHIND THESE SAFETY MECHANISMS REGARDLESS OF ANY WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF THE WARNING LIGHT IS ON, YET I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM WITH A SAFETY DEVICE INTENDED TO LAST THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT IF THIS SITUATION IS TRUE (SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM CAN BE RENDERED INEFFECTIVE WITHOUT NOTICE) THAT POSSIBLY THE SITUATION SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MY 2009 IMPALA. FROM THE VERY BEGINNING WITH ONLY 100+ MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE TODAY. THE DASH WILL SAY REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55 MILES AN HOUR MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND JUST SAT THERE WONDERING WHAT WAS GOING ON. IT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING, IT WAS JUST COMPLETELY OFF. I WAS ABOUT TO CALL FOR AAA AND TRIED ONE MORE TIME AND IT STARTED. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN IN NOVEMBER OF 2013 AS WELL AND I WAS GOING 45 ON A COUNTRY RD. AGAIN I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE AND SAT THERE AND WAITED AGAIN. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CAR WILL DO NOTHING. I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY TRACTION CONTROL, MAKING A STRANGE GRINDING TYPE NOISE AND BOGS THE CAR DOWN FROM MOVING WHEN I AM TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP OR TRYING TO TURN EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY AIR BAG LIGHTS COMING ON AND TELLING ME TO SERVICE MY AIR BAGS. IT COMES ON AND GOES OFF AND COMES ON AND GOES OFF. THE DASH LIGHT WILL COME ON AND TELL ME TO SHUT ENGINE OFF NOW FOR LOW OIL PRESSURE, THIS HAS HAPPENED FOR 4 YEARS, THE CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD. THIS CAR WAS NEVER A GOOD CAR FROM THE VERY DAY IT CAME OFF THE LOT. *TR
I AM HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AS EVERYONE ELSE, WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I WAS GOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND THAN MY SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY ENGINE POWER REDUCED WITH THE MIL LIGHT, THE CAR SPEED IMMEDIATELY DECREASED TO ABOUT 50 MPH, NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, PULLED OVER AND LET IT SIT FOR AWHILE THAN RESTARTED IT. IT IS INTERMITTENT AND OCCURS RANDOMLY. IT IS SAFETY CONCERN AS THIS CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ALSO COMES OFF AND ON, I HAD TAKEN TO CHEVY DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THE AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, WAS ABOUT $500 IN WORK, AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I AM NOT ABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR SO I AM DRIVING IN A VEHICLE WHERE IF THEIR IS AN ACCIDENT, THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. *TR
2009 CHEVY IMPALA 3.5L FFV - MY "PASSENGER AIRBAG" LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY SINCE EARLY SPRING 2013. IN AUGUST 2013, MY "BRAKE" LIGHT SUDDENLY CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. THERE DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY HANDLING ISSUES. BOTH THE REGULAR BRAKES & PARKING BRAKE WORKED NORMALLY THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS FULL. FOR A FEW MONTHS THE "BRAKE" LIGHT WOULD COME ON SPORADICALLY & ALARM WHILE DRIVING, ALL WITHOUT ANY CHANGES IN DRIVING OR BRAKING ABILITY. AROUND SEPTEMBER 2013, THE "TRACTION CONTROL" & "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHTS CAME ON. AGAIN, THERE DID NOT SEEM TO BE ANY ISSUE WITH HANDLING. THESE LIGHTS ALSO CAME ON & OFF RANDOMLY & THEY WERE SELDOM ALL ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. OCCASIONALLY, THE WARNING PANEL ALSO SAYS, "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" & ACCELERATION & POWER ARE DIMINISHED. THERE'S ALSO BEEN A "LOW PRESSURE LEFT REAR TIRE." THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS FOUND TO BE LOW, BUT THE REAR TIRE WAS OK. TONIGHT, THE "CHECK ENGINE" & "TRACTION CONTROL" LIGHTS CAME ON & THE DISPLAY SAID "ENGINE POWER REDUCED." SUDDENLY, IT SAID, "STARTING DISABLED SERVICE THROTTLE" & MY CAR ESSENTIALLY LOST ALL POWER. THE STEERING ALSO LOCKED UP. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD. I RESTARTED THE CAR AFTER ABOUT 1 MINUTE, & THE "TRACTION CONTROL" LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON, BUT THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN, WITHOUT DIFFICULTY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AS THE AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDING TO BE RECALIBRATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILED TO SECURE INTO THE BELT CLIP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000.

I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIRS AND THEY SAID THE PPS MODULE WENT BAD ,THE DEALER SAID NO RECALL ON IT .I THINK THIS IS NOT SAFE OR FAIR .COST TO FIX $848.00. *TR

THEY SAID THE CAR HAD BEEN IN FOR THE RECALL ID # 89931 AND HAD BEEN CHECKED. WE DID NOT OWN THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE ON 8/ 31/11 FROM A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP. WE HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE ONLY 6 WEEKS WHEN THE PROBLEM AROSE. WE DON'T KNOW IF PROBLEM WAS EVER SOLVED OR IF THE TROUBLE WAS JUST CLEARED. THE LIGHT WAS OFF WHEN WE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP THIS TIME. WE BELIEVE IF PROBLEM WAS PROPERLY REPAIRED ON THE RECALL THERE WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. THIS DEALER (YOUNG- BUICK GMC) OF OWOSSO, MI SAID THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS $190.79. WE DON'T THINK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR BECAUSE IT WAS A RECALL AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. EVIDENTLY THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS IT MUST OF NOT BEEN FIXED PROPERLY. *TR

DEALER FOUND AND REPAIRED THE FOLLOWING, CPA CONNECTOR TO NOT BE PROPERLY INSTALLED - R&R CONNECTOR AND INSTALLED PROPERLY, CPA CONNECTOR UNDER SEAT TO BE OUT OF PLACE - R&R CONNECTOR AND PROPERLY INSTALLED, FOUND LOOSE CPA CONNECTOR ON PASS SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER - R&R CONNECTOR AND ADD DIELECTRIC, REINSTALL CONNECTOR AND CPA PROPERLY, FOUND PROGRAM UPDATE FOR RELATED COMPLAINT, PERFORMED PROGRAM UPDATE ON SDM AND RESET. WHEN SPEAKING TO SERVICE MANAGER, HE SAID THAT THERE MAYBE A CORROSION ISSUE WITH THE CONNECTORS WITHIN THE AIR BAG WIRING SYSTEM. *TR

THE IMPACT CAUSED THE WINDOW GLASS TO SHATTER AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED LACERATIONS TO THE MOUTH AND LEFT ARM. HIS NECK AND SHOULDERS WERE ALSO INJURED AND THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A COLLISION FACILITY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 59,000.

THE SEAT BELTS ALSO DID NOT SECURELY HOLD ANY OF THE PASSENGERS. THE POLICE APPEARED ON THE SCENE AND 4 MAJOR INJURIES WERE REPORTED. ALL 4 PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL TO HAVE THEIR INJURIES TREATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. SHE WAS NOT SURE IF THE VEHICLE WAS EVER EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 12,000.
WE PURCHASED A 2009 CHEVY IMPALA IN APRIL . MY WIFE HAS A TAIL BONE MEDICAL ISSUE THAT NECESSITATES THAT SHE SIT ON A SPECIAL PILLOW WHILE RIDING IN A VEHICLE. THE SEAT DISPLACES HER WEIGHT EVENLY ACROSS THE SEAT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE HER WEIGHT SITTING ON THE SEAT, SO THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DOESN'T SHOW IT IS OPERATIVE. WE RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD US TO SET A MAGAZINE UNDERNEATH HER TO MAKE THE SENSOR WORK. IT DOES ACTIVATE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON" BUTTON SOMETIMES, HOWEVER, THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME IT WILL NOT ACTIVATE AND MY WIFE IS NOT PROTECTED. I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY SOLUTION TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE, EXCEPT TO TELL ME THAT MY WIFE SHOULD RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT! THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO FURTHER ANSWERS FOR US.
