AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2000-2002 BMW 320i, 323i, 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi, 323Ci, 325Ci, 330Ci, M3, 323iT, 325iT and 325xiT vehicles, 2001-2002 525i, 530i, 540i, M5, 525iT and 540iT vehicles, and 2001-2003 X5 3.0i, X5 4.4i, and X5 4.6is vehicles. These vehicles may have had a driver-side air bag module installed as replacement equipment such as after a vehicle crash necessitating replacement of the original air bag, or as a remedy part for a prior recall. These replacement modules contain an air bag inflator that may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to lower absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the vehicle has been remedied. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver side air bag module, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 15, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Your airbag system has a safety issue that BMW has acknowledged in warning letters to you, but they haven't fixed it yet despite multiple service attempts. The letters indicate this could be a life-threatening problem. You'll need BMW to diagnose and repair the specific airbag fault, which may involve replacing airbag components or the control module.

You received a recall notice from Virginia's DMV stating your airbag needs to be replaced due to a January 2019 recall. When you scheduled a replacement at your BMW dealer in Winston-Salem, they told you the airbag had already been replaced and no repair was needed — but your records show the airbag has never been replaced and your vehicle hasn't been serviced by a BMW dealer in 2019. The dealer's claim doesn't match your service history, and you need clarification on whether your airbag actually meets the recall requirements.

Your 2002 BMW X5 is showing multiple warning lights on the dashboard when you start it up. Your vehicle is part of a recall campaign related to airbags, but the dealership and BMW haven't provided assistance to fix the issue. The warning lights suggest a problem with either the airbag system or engine that needs professional diagnosis and repair.

You received a recall notice for your 2002 BMW X5 regarding potentially defective Takata airbags (NHTSA campaign 19V015000). When you contacted the manufacturer to schedule a repair, they asked for a photo of your steering wheel. After reviewing the photo, the manufacturer told you your vehicle wasn't actually covered by the recall, but the dealer never confirmed they received this notification. Your airbags have not failed, but there's uncertainty about whether your vehicle should be included in the recall.

Your vehicle was purchased from a Homeland Security auction and arrived with significant damage to the front section and interior. The seat belt buckle is part of a Takata recall, and the interior was torn apart during the auction process. You'll need to address both the recall and the physical damage to restore the vehicle to safe, usable condition.

Your airbag warning light stays on continuously, which prevents you from passing a vehicle inspection. This is a safety system malfunction that needs to be diagnosed and repaired before the vehicle can be legally inspected.
