Your steering suddenly became difficult to turn while driving slowly into your neighborhood. The dealer found that your left tie-rod steering linkage was broken, and noted curb damage on the underside and wheels, which they believe caused the failure. While your car remained controllable at low speeds, losing steering ability at highway speeds could have been dangerous, and you're concerned that a steering linkage shouldn't fail from minor curb contact.
