Gas tank Strap rusted thru and broke. Brake lines rusted thru and leaked Differential rusted thru and leaked. Frame excessively and extensively rusted.
I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THE FRAME ON MY 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY. WE NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF A REPAIR CAMPAIGN. BOTH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND CORPORATE REJECTED MY REQUEST TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 56,000.
UPON CLOSE INSPECTION (VEHICLE PARKED) THE TRUCK HAS SEVERE (MORE THAN AVERAGE) CORROSION/ PERFORATION (RUST) OF THE MAIN FRAME/ CHASSIS. TOYOTA HAD UNDERCOATED THE VEHICLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE ALTHOUGH THIS ONLY MASKED THE UNDERLYING CORROSION, ALLOWING FOR THE CORROSION TO GO UNNOTICED. THE FRAME HAS CURRENTLY PERFORATED (VISIBLE HOLES/ RUST IN THE INTEGRAL STRUCTURE). THE VEHICLES MAIN STRUCTURE IS COMPROMISED DO TO THE POOR MATERIAL/ EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE VEHICLES SAFETY MAY BE SEVERELY COMPROMISED.
IN 2015, MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF A TOYOTA RECALL FOR COLD WEATHER VEHICLES, TO UNDERCOAT THE FRAME TO MITIGATE ANY POSSIBLE PROBLEMS FROM SNOW, ICE AND SALT RUSTING OUT THE FRAME PREMATURELY. I COMPLIED, BRINGING MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER, HERITAGE FORD & TOYOTA, 1620 SHELBURNE RD., SO. BURLINGTON, VT. THEY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS, AND REMOVED THE PICK UP BODY FROM THE VEHICLE AND UNDERCOATED THE FRAME FROM THE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER TO THE REAR OF THE FRAME. THIS PAST TUES.,AUG. 8TH, 2017, I HAD MY VEHICLE AT MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED, AND TO HAVE THE FRONT BRAKES LOOKED AT. SOON AFTER THEY DROVE THE VEHICLE INTO THE SERVICE BAY, MY MECHANIC CAME TO ME AND SAID HE HAD SOMETHING TO SHOW ME. THAT'S WHEN HE SHOWED ME THE HOLES ON THE TOP RAIL OF THE FRAME JUST BACK FROM THE ENGINE MOTOR MOUNT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS HORRIFIED WHEN MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS CONDITION ESSENTIALLY RENDERED MY VEHICLE UNINSPECTABLE. I WENT BACK TO HERITAGE TOYOTA WHERE I HAD THE UNDERCOATING DONE, AND THEY SAID BASICALLY, SINCE THEY HAD MET THE ORIGINAL CONDITIONS OF THE 2015 RECALL, THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY WERE REQUIRED TO DO FOR ME. THEY REFERRED ME TO THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE TELEPHONE NUMBER. WHEN I CALLED THE CASE WORKER, CHERYL FROM TOYOTA, SHE TOLD ME THE SAME THING THAT HERITAGE TOYOTA HAD TOLD ME, THEY HAD COVERED THEMSELVES BY COMPLETING THE RECALL REQUIREMENTS FOR MY VEHICLE, AND THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. MY CASE # FOR TOYOTA WAS 1708081681. I FEEL THAT EITHER HERITAGE TOYOTA OR TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK. HERITAGE, BECAUSE THEY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS, & THEY COULD HAVE CHECKED THE FRAME IN THE ENGINE WELL AT SOME POINT. AND TOYOTA MOTOR CORP, BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD VERY WELL DOCUMENTED FRAME ISSUES WITH IT'S TRUCKS FOR MANY YEARS.
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM FAILURE, CAUSING THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND FAIL STATE EMOTIONS TESTING.
COLD START OF VEHICLE, VERY LARGE NOISE, LASTED ABOUT 1 MINUTE. ONLY DOES THIS WHEN COLD START. IF VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN NO SOUND. RESEARCH INDICATE, THAT OTHER PROBLEMS NOTED ON THE INTERNET WERE THE AIR INJECTION PUMP, AND SWITCHING VALUES, HAS FOAM THAT HAS DETERIORATED AND FELL DOWN ON THE DC MOTOR AND BURNED THE MOTOR OUT. SEEMS THE MANUFACTURE KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS ONLY CERTAIN MODEL YEARS THEY ARE COVERING. SAME PART IN ALL YEARS BUT NOT COVERING 2005 WHICH IS THE MODEL YEAR OF MY TRUCK. IF SAME PART IS ON DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS THEY SHOULD COVER ALL MODEL YEARS THAT HAVE THIS PART AS IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT TO UTILIZED TO IMPROVE COLD-START EMISSIONS, WHICH IS MANDATED REQUIREMENT. TOYOTA'S CUSTOMERS HAVE A CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY SHOULD BE WITH ALL MODEL YEARS THAT HAVE THIS PART. I HAVE AS OF YESTERDAY TAKEN MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS THE PROBLEM. DIAGNOSIS SHOULD BE FORTH COMING. MANY COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET FOR THIS SAME MODEL YEAR AND PROBLEM. *TR
I JUST SENT THE FOLLOWING EMAIL TO TOYOTA. I HOPE THAT NHTSA CAN FOLLOW UP AS THIS IS VERY CONCERNING: I WAS HORRIFIED BY THE SPANISH SPEAKING TOYOTA TUNDRA COMMERCIAL I JUST SAW. IT IS INCONCEIVABLE THAT TOYOTA WOULD HAVE A COMMERCIAL SHOWING LITTLE CHILDREN CRAWLING UNDER A CAR TO TRY TO GET A BALL OUT FROM UNDER IT. CHILDREN SHLOULD NEVER GO UNDER A CAR, WHETHER IT IS MOVING OR NOT. THEY CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL. TOYOTA SHOULD IMMEDIATELY PULL THIS COMMERCIAL. PLEASE DO NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY OF A CHILD OR CHILDREN WHO CRAWL UNDER A CAR AFTER SEEING THIS COMMERCIAL.*AK
