SUSPENSION:REAR:SPRINGS:LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY:LEAF
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner and 4x4 vehicles manufactured September 14, 2009, to October 11, 2010. In the affected vehicles, one of the leaf springs may fracture due to stress or corrosion. While being driven, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components including the fuel tank, possibly puncturing the tank and causing a fuel leak.
Fix: Toyota will notify owners and dealers will install new rear leaf spring assemblies. The recall began on January 29, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

PASSENGER SIDE REAR SUSPENSION WAS MAKING NOISE. LOUD CLUNKING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, REAR LEAF SPRING IS BROKEN IN 2 PLACES. THE PREVIOUSLY INSTATED RECALL DOES NOT COVER MY VEHICLE??
REAR LEAF SPRINGS ARE VERY WEAK AND ARE NOT AS SUPPORTIVE AS THEY SHOULD BE. AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO THE SPRING IS PRETTY MUCH STRAIGHT AND IT SHOULD HAVE SOME CURVE AS THERE IS NO LOAD ON THE VEHICLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,000.

2011 TOYOTA TACOMA HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH VIBRATIONS AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 55. THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE BALANCE PROBLEM BUT HAVE BEEN THROUGH SEVERAL SETS OF TIRES AND REBALANCING AT THIS POINT AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. AND, I SEE THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED SUSPENSION VIBRATION PROBLEMS WITH A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. TOYOTA MUST INVESTIGATE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS WITH 2011 TACOMAS AND ISSUE A RECALL AND REPAIRS!! THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE RT 22 TOYOTA DEALER (LOCATED ON 109 US 22 HILLSIDE, NJ), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC FEES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
LEAF SPRING HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY LIA TOYOTA DEALERSHIP'S SHOP IN COLONIE, NY AS BEING BROKEN. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM FOR 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA VEHICLES WITH OTHER VIN NUMBERS, BUT NOT MINE. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED TOYOTA, WHICH DENIED MY VEHICLE FOR THE RECALL, SO IT RECOMMENDS REPLACING BOTH LEAF SPRINGS AT MY EXPENSE ($2400). I FEEL THAT TOYOTA SHOULD INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THE RECALL.

HOWEVER THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER CALL IN 6 MONTHS IT SHOULD BE IN.CALLED 6 MONTHS LATER NO PARTS ,KEPT CALLING THE DEALER NO RESPONSE.I STARTED TO HEAR A NOISE SO I CALLED TOYOTA USA AND WAS TOLD IF I CHOOSE I CAN HAVE IT DONE PRIVATELY AND SUBMIT THE NECESSARY PAPER WORK FOR REFUND. HAD THE PART CHANGED SUBMITTED ALL THE DOCUMENTS THEY CALLED THE MECHANIC VERIFIED ALL THAT WAS DONE ETC. RECALL FOR THE LEAF SPRINGS. NO NOTIFICAATION. I HAVE 3 LEAF SPRINGS SPRINGS. IF I PUT ANY WEIGHT IN THE BED OF MY TRUCK THE LEAF SPRINGS TEND TO CURVE IN A DOWNWARD POSITION. AFFRAID TO PUT ANYTHING IN BED OF TRUCK. DO TO THIS PROBLEM I HAVE SINCE REPLACED SHOCKS, REPLACED ON FRONT DRIVER SIDE BALL JOINT, IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING FRONT SHOCKS AND POSSIBLE BEARING ASSEMBLIES AND FRONT SHOCKS. I FEEL THIS IS ALL CAUSE BY ONLY HAVING THREE LEAF SPRINGS. WHEN DRIVING THE BACK END TENDS TO SWAY MORE THAN NORMAL WHEN DRIVING. THE WEIGHT OF THE BACK END TENDS TO BE A PROBLEM ALSO WITH A COMPOSITE BED, BEING TOO LIGHT.

IT'S BEEN ABOUT 8 MONTHS SINCE I WAS FIRST NOTIFIED OF THEIR RECALL E02 ON THE REAR SPRINGS. I WAS CALLED IN FOR AN INSPECTION TODAY (6/21/2016) AND TOLD THE REAR SPRINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 6-8 WEEKS BEFORE THE PARTS WOULD BE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE TRUCK WOULD BE FIXED. WHY DOES YOUR AGENCY ALLOW SAFETY RECALLS TO DRAG OUT FOR MONTHS? WHY ARE THERE NO PENALTIES ON THE MANUFACTURERS TO GIVE THEM AN INCENTIVE TO FINISH A SAFETY RECALL IN A TIMELY FASHION?
AFTER NEARLY TWO YEARS, THE RECALL IS INCOMPLETE AND I'M BEGINNING TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS IN GENERAL. TWO YEARS IS ABSURD! I NEED TO REPLACE THE REAR SHOCKS AS WELL BUT DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING THAT MIGHT POSSIBLY MESS UP THE RECALL FIX, IF IT'S .EVER COMPLETED.THE DEFECT FROM THAT CAUSED THE SPRINGS, I BELIEVE, IS ALSO CAUSING THE REAR SPRINGS TO FAIL OVERALL.
LEAF SPRINGS HAVE BROKEN TWICE. FIRST TIME IN 2013 AND CURRENT. TOYOTA SAYS MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL. MY TRUCK SHOULD BE INCLUDED AS IT HAS THE SAME SAFETY CONCERN AS THE ONES BEING RECALLED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.

TOYOTA HAS NOT YET FORMULATED A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CATCH FIRE DUE TO THIS DEFECT WHILE TOYOTA DRAGS THEIR FEET COMING UP WITH A FIX. TOYOTA SHOULD BE PRESSED FOR A SOLUTION NOW.

MY 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA 7188 IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN WINDY CONDITIONS. AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS (70MPH) IT LOOSES DIRECTIONAL STABILITY DURING WINDY CONDITIONS. MY 2006 TACOMA 7114 WAS SOLID AS A ROCK IN ANY CONDITIONS. I FEEL THAT THE HEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE CAUSES WIND TO RAISE THE VEHICLE EVER SO SLIGHT CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVABILITY SITUATION. SADLY I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER OWNERS AND THEY EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. THIS IS MY 12TH TOYOTA OF WHICH 6 HAVE BEEN TACOMAS. IT IS MY VERY WORST NIGHTMARE TO DRIVE.
