SEAT BELTS

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Tacoma Access Cab vehicles manufactured September 14, 2004, through March 29, 2010; and model year 2011 Tacoma Access Cab vehicles manufactured July 1, 2010, through September 7, 2011. If the access doors are repeatedly and forcefully closed, the screws that attach the seat belt pre-tensioner to the seat belt retractor can loosen over time. If the screws loosen completely, the seat belt pre-tensioner and the retractor spring cover could detach from the seat belt retractor.

Fix: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt assemblies. Based on the inspection, the seat belt assembly will be replaced or new pre-tensioner screws will be installed with thread-locking sealant and a retractor spring cover with stopper ribs to prevent loosening of the screws. These services will be provided at no cost to the owner. The recall began during February 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Your driver side seat belt is stuck and won't slide up and down along its track to adjust the position where it crosses your shoulder and chest. This makes it difficult to properly position the belt before fastening it, and the inability to adjust it may cause excessive wear on the sides of the belt over time. The seat belt adjuster mechanism may need to be cleaned, lubricated, or replaced to restore proper sliding function.

I own a 2005 Toyota Tacoma xtra cab with 140445 miles on it. When it had 36000 miles I noticed the driver side seatbelts wearing down that was in 2011 . It’s just me so the passenger side is still good. I contacted Toyota about this problem asking them if there were any recalls or any complaints about the seatbelt wearing down. I was told no complaints. I told them my safety concerns they agreed on having my local dealership take care of the problem. It took some convincing to have it approved. So now I’m having the same issue again I haven’t contacted them yet. I just hope they will fix the problem again. Like I told the person I spoke to none of my other many vehicles have had a safety belt wearing down on the sides. It could be a poor design that’s causing it but none the less it’s needs to be corrected.

WENT TO DRIVE HOME FROM WORK AND SAFETY BELT ON RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE PULLED ALL THE WAY OUT, WILL NOT RETRACT. HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THE SAFETY BELTS SINCE BUYING THE TRUCK, SUCH AS FOLDING UP, NOT RETRACTING ALL THE WAY, GETTING CAUGHT, BUT NONE AS BAD AS THE CURRENT ISSUE. RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THE SEAT BELTS IN THIS ACCESS CAB MODEL, BUT WAS INFORMED TODAY BY THE DEALER IN PLACERVILLE THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THE SEATBELTS ON THESE ACCESS CAB MODELS ARE AFFECTED BY THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE REAR DOORS, AND HAVE A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. BECAUSE I NEED MY VEHICLE FOR MY COMMUTE, GOING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, HOWEVER, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE SOMEONE DYING BECAUSE OF THE FLAWS IN THE SEATBELTS IN THE 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA ACCESS CAB MODEL. *TR
