The frame members on both sides of your truck, just forward of the rear leaf spring mounts, have severe rust damage that a Toyota dealership says has compromised the frame's structural integrity. This could create a safety risk in a collision, even though the rust isn't visible from the outside—the interior portions are heavily damaged. The rust has developed despite the vehicle being well-maintained since purchase in October 2020. Fixing this would require professional frame repair or replacement, which is a significant structural job.

You purchased a vehicle with a rolled-back odometer — the seller claimed 166,000 miles, but Carfax showed the last recorded mileage was 278,000 miles. The vehicle turned out to be undriveable with a broken transmission and multiple safety issues that weren't disclosed. The seller used an outdated title and refused a test drive before the sale.

Your truck's frame has rusted completely through on both the right and left rear sections. This compromises the structural integrity of your vehicle and could affect safety. Addressing this will likely require professional frame repair or welding to reinforce or replace the affected areas.

Your truck's frame developed rust and corrosion, which was addressed with undercoating in 2011 after a safety recall inspection. By 2017, you discovered a small hole in the frame; while Toyota inspected it and said it was safe, they won't provide further support since the recall period has ended. You're concerned about the frame's structural integrity for continued driving or resale.

THE FRAME ON THIS VEHICLE IS BAD. MY WIFE HAS HAD THIS TRUCK SINCE 1998 AND THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS FRAME ISSUE. THE FRAME WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK AS REPORTED BY MANY OTHER CONSUMERS AND IS IT IS ON THE ROAD WHEN THIS HAPPENS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL.
MY FRAME IS RUSTED AND CRACKED IN HALF. I WELDED A PLATE TO THE FRAME AND USED A BOLT FOR THE SHOCK MOUNT TO REPLACE THE BUSTED SHOCK MOUNT. CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AS I AM WAITING FOR THE REST OF THE FRAME TO BREAK IN HALF AS I AM DRIVING.
I TOOK MY 1998 TACOMA IN FOR AN INSPECTION AT MY LOCAL DEALER IN NOVEMBER OF 2011. I WAS TOLD IT PASSED AND HAD ONLY NORMAL SURFACE RUST. NO COMPENSATION IN ANY FORM WAS MADE, NOT EVEN AN UNDERCOATING. MY VIN NUMBER FELL INTO THE CATEGORY OF BEING SUSPECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF THIS AT THE TIME. NOW AT 190K MILES AND THE 15 YR DEADLINE GONE, I HAVE A USELESS TRUCK THAT IS BASICALLY WORTH NOTHING AS FAR AS I CAN TELL. THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH IN 2011 WHEN THEY WERE GIVEN THE CHANCE. THE DEALER JUST SENDS YOU ON YOUR MERRY WAY BECAUSE THEY KNOW THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. THE FRAME RUSTS FROM THE INSIDE OUT. NOTHING WILL FIX IT. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RUSTY FRAMES.
FRAME RUSTED THROUGH . TOYOTA SAYS RECALL EXPIRED . GOW CAN SAFETY ISSUE OF THIS MAGNATUDE EXPIRE?
