The electrical wiring in the seat heaters may be damaged when the seat cushion is compressed.
Risk: If damaged, the copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.
Fix: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the seat heaters, free of charge, and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory. The recall began on July 14, 2016. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET number for this recall is SET16B.
NHTSA Campaign: 14V273000
Component: TIRES:TEMPORARY/EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2004-2011 Sienna vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. The affected vehicles have a spare tire carrier assembly mounted under the vehicle whose attachment cable may corrode due to high concentrations of road salt splashing onto the spare tire carrier.
Risk: If the carrier cable is corroded due to road salt, the spare tire may separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Toyota sent owners in August 2014 an interim notification to advise owners of the recall and that dealers will perform an interim remedy to remove the spare tire and relocate it to the luggage compartment, free of charge. Owners are being mailed a second letter as parts become available and dealers will replace the spare tire carrier assembly with an improved one, free of charge. The remedy campaign is being performed in phases. The first phase of the recall began July 7, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. NOTE: 2004-2010 Siennas subject to this recall were subject to recall campaign 10V-160 initiated in 2010. Those owners are advised that they must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign and that having the earlier recall completed did not remedy their vehicles. Additionally, model year 1998-2003 Siennas were recalled as part of safety recall 10V-160. Owners of those vehicles that have not had not the remedy performed on their vehicles, should contact their Toyota dealer to schedule a free repair.

Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVE
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain models interspersed through model years 2009 through 2013 as follows: model year 2009-2012 Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and RAV4; model year 2009-2010 Avalon, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander Hybrid; model year 2010-2013 model year Corolla, Sienna and Tundra; model year 2009-2013 Highlander and Venza; model year 2012 Prius V; and model year 2010-2012 Sequoia. During modification by SET to include accessories such as leather seat covers, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems, these vehicles may not have had the passenger seat occupant sensing system calibration tested. Without passing the calibration test, the occupant sensing system may not operate as designed.
Risk: If the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.
Fix: Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

Your car's sliding doors stop randomly while opening and closing, sometimes trapping passengers inside. Your daughter has been stuck in the car multiple times and is afraid to use it because the doors suddenly jam without warning, creating a fall risk. You've also driven with a door stuck open without realizing it. Toyota acknowledges this is a known problem covered under extended warranty for the Power Sliding Door Cable Sub-Assembly, but your coverage expired in September 2021 and they're now refusing to repair it at no cost. The fix will likely involve inspecting and replacing the power sliding door cable assembly or related components.

Your power sliding door may fail to latch or lock properly when opened, causing it to close unexpectedly while someone is entering the vehicle. This happened on a slight incline after the door hinges had previously been replaced under a Toyota service program. The issue occurred at approximately 125,000 miles. The sliding door latch mechanism may need inspection or replacement to ensure it functions correctly.

Your backseat power doors have stopped working and won't open or close. This is a significant safety concern since you won't be able to quickly exit the vehicle in an emergency or accident. The issue may involve the power door actuators, wiring, or control module that operates the automatic door system.

Unknown Or Other →4 issues
Your rear air conditioning line is positioned too close to the rear tire, causing it to wear through from friction and rubbing when you hit bumps. When the line develops a leak, you and passengers in the back may inhale refrigerant vapor, and the leak harms the environment. This is a design issue—the repair shop reports having to replace this same line multiple times on multiple vehicles due to poor clearance from the tire.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Your passenger side sliding door jerks when you close it with the power button, and the cable snapped completely, so it won't open anymore. Your driver side sliding door opens on its own and won't stay closed — you can hear the lock mechanism and it automatically unlocks itself. Even though a recall was completed on these doors before, you believe the parts are still defective.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Both cables that operate your power sliding doors have broken, forcing you to close the doors manually. Your rear passenger side door is now difficult to slide and won't open completely. The fix will likely involve replacing the broken door cables and checking the door track for damage or misalignment.

Your sliding door won't open or close automatically. The owner suspects this issue may have been subject to a recall, so it's worth checking with your Toyota dealer to see if your specific vehicle is covered.

Steering →2 issues
Your power steering light came on while driving, causing your steering system to suddenly lose power and making it very difficult to turn the wheel—you nearly had an accident. A mechanic found that your steering motor failed and the steering control unit (CPU) needs to be replaced, which costs around $4,000. Your car is not safely driveable until these components are repaired or replaced.

Your steering wheel makes a clunking noise when you turn it. This noise is coming from the intermediate shaft, which connects your steering wheel to the rest of the steering system. The repair will likely involve inspecting the intermediate shaft for wear or damage and replacing worn components or tightening loose connections.

Electrical System,wheels,service Brakes →1 issue
While driving with your child, your 2011 Toyota Sienna suddenly experienced a strong burning smell, followed by the ABS warning light coming on, wheels locking up, steering wheel locking, and engine power loss — all while the vehicle was moving. The vehicle wouldn't restart and had to be towed. This happened just four days after the dealership performed an oil change, tire rotation, and brake inspection. The dealership first blamed a dead battery, then changed the explanation to a shorted alternator, but these don't explain why the wheels and steering locked simultaneously. The dealership refused to provide diagnostic documentation or photos of the affected parts.

Power Train,service Brakes,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your Sienna is displaying multiple warning lights on the dashboard including Check Engine, ABS, VSC-TRAC stability control, and tire pressure warnings. The vehicle shut down while driving on the highway without warning, leaving you unable to control it, and then wouldn't restart—requiring a tow to the dealer. Even after multiple service visits and attempted repairs (including fuel injector replacement), the problem persists and the dealer cannot identify the root cause. Diagnosing this issue will likely require comprehensive computer diagnostics to read all fault codes and test the fuel system, brake system, and engine management components.

Structure,latches/locks/linkages →1 issue
Your rear power sliding doors unexpectedly opened while you were driving at 55 MPH because they failed to latch properly. This happened even though the same doors were previously repaired under a Toyota recall program. Your dealer identified that the door motor, cable, and lock actuators need replacement, but instead temporarily secured the doors with zip ties without completing the repair. The fix will likely involve replacing the power sliding door motor, cables, and door lock actuator components.

Structure,vehicle Speed Control,service Brakes →1 issue
While parking at 5 mph with your foot on the brake, your car suddenly accelerated with force on its own, overriding the brakes and causing you to hit a concrete pole. The car was totaled, though no one was injured. Your mechanic couldn't determine the cause, but you and your passenger clearly felt the car accelerate independently without your input. This type of unexpected acceleration could be caused by a failure in the throttle control system, brake system, or electronic engine management components that may need inspection or replacement.

Unknown Or Other,latches/locks/linkages →1 issue
Your passenger sliding door has opened while driving, which could eject a child from the vehicle. Even though Toyota issued a recall and fixed this issue in September 2017, it happened again in October 2023. Toyota is refusing to cover the repair under warranty or their customer support program, claiming it's your responsibility despite this being a known defect.

Electrical System,air Bags,latches/locks/linkages →1 issue
Your airbag warning light keeps turning on and off while you drive, though it goes away when you restart the vehicle. Your sliding doors have stopped working automatically and now require manual operation. When you tried to open the driver's side door in cold, icy weather, you heard a cracking sound and the door wouldn't open, while the passenger door made a similar cracking sound but still opened. The issue likely involves the door latch mechanism and airbag sensor system, which may need electrical diagnostics and mechanical repair or replacement.
Parts you may need:

Structure,tires →1 issue
Your rear driver's side sliding door wouldn't close or latch properly, whether you closed it manually or used the power button—this was fixed at a shop with door motor and belt replacement. Your rear passenger's side sliding door is now stuck closed and won't open at all, and the dealer said it's not covered under a recall for your vehicle's VIN. Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) has also stopped working and hasn't been diagnosed or repaired. These issues will likely require replacement of the sliding door motors, belts, and TPMS sensors.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Engine →1 issue
While driving on the highway, you noticed white smoke coming from your car and an engine oil low warning light appeared on the dashboard. You pulled over and had the van towed, discovering that the oil coolant line had burst. This appears to be a known issue on these vehicles that you weren't aware of despite completing all recalls. The fix will likely involve replacing the burst oil coolant line.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Power Train →1 issue
Your car's viscous coupling bearing is making significant noise. This bearing helps distribute power between wheels, and if it fails completely, it could cause the drivetrain to lock up, which would be hazardous while driving. The bearing will likely need to be replaced to resolve the noise and prevent potential drivetrain problems.

Unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
You suspect the odometer mileage may have been altered by the previous owner before you purchased this vehicle. This is a concern about the accuracy of the recorded mileage history rather than a mechanical problem. Resolving this would likely require odometer inspection or service records verification.
