POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2005-2007 and 2009-2010 Toyota Sienna vehicles. In the affected vehicles, due to a problem within the shift lock assembly, the shift lever may be moved out of the 'Park' position without depressing the brake pedal.
Fix: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shift lock solenoid and reapply the grease, free of charge. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is H0V. Vehicles that were previously recalled under campaign 13V-429 are not affected by this recall.

The bushing that connects your gear shift lever is broken, which disconnected the lever from the cable that controls gear shifting. This caused your car to become stuck in reverse gear and unable to shift to drive, nearly causing a collision. The gear shift lever feels loose or unresponsive when you try to change gears. Replacing the shift cable bushing and reconnecting or replacing the shift cable will likely be needed to restore normal shifting.

CAR WAS IN MOTION, TURNING TO PARK ON SLOPE PARKING AREA THEN GEAR FALL OUT AND ROLLING BACKWARD, THEREFORE TRY TO SHIFT INTO PARKING GEAR, ALL GEARS DIDN'T WORK, GEAR SHIFT WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL THEN CAR ROLLED DOWNHILL TO OTHER SIDE OF CURVE. TO PREVENT ACCIDENT I GOT OUT TO STOP THE CAR FROM ROLLING BY HOLDING ON TO THE REAR DOOR HANDLE, COULD'NT STOP IT, IN THE PROCESS I HAD INJURY TO MY LEFT SHOULDER AND BACK.
TRACTION CONTROL HAS RANDOMLY ENGAGED 4 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, AT SPEEDS AS LOW 35 MPH AND ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. PAVEMENT WAS DRY AND WE WERE DRIVING STRAIGHT, NOT TURNING. BRAKING IS APPLIED CAUSING TEMPORARY LOSS OF SPEED AND PULLING STEERING TO ONE SIDE FOR ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS. CONTROL RETURNS AND TRAC CONTROL LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLINK. DOES NOT RESULT IN AN ERROR CODE.

RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. PRETTY SCARY TO THINK I COULD BE HEADED DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FIVE CHILDREN AND POTENTIALLY LOSE CONTROL OF STEERING CAPABILITY BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY PART.

POWERTRAIN FAILS AT 140,000 MILES WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR TOYOTA [REPAIR COST ~4000 QUOTED FROM DEALER]. ALSO, THERE ARE PLENTY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STARTS WITH FAILING ACTUATORS SUCH AS SLIDING DOOR ACTUATOR [$~1500 QUOTE FROM DEALER], HVAC AIR BLEND ACTUATORS [$~850 QUOTE FROM DEALER]AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SOLENOIDS [$~500 QUOTE FROM LOCAL]. PLEASE HELP US AND OTHERS TO SHED SOME LIGHT ON SUCH KIND OF ISSUES SINCE IT COSTS TOO MUCH. IN WINTER TIME WHEN HEATER IS NOT WORKING.
ON 9/10/17 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE ABOVE MENTIONED CAR. SHE TRIED TO PARK THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT IN PARK, THE SHIFTER WAS FREE AND THEN CAR STARTED ROLLING. THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO GO OVER THE RAVINE, SHE PRESSED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. AND STOPPED THE CAR, OTHERWISE SHE WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH THE RAVINE AND HIT THE MAIN ROAD TRAFFIC. SHE CALLED ME AND I GOT HER HOME AND THEN WENT BACK TO TRY TO TURN THE CAR ON, IT WILL NOT RUN AND GEARS SHIFTER WAS STUCK. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AT EOC HOMEWOOD STORE #0102.
CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL OUT FOR THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID ASSEMBLY IN CERTAIN TOYOTA SIENNA VAN MODELS FROM 2004-2005 AND 2007 TO 2009. I OWN A 2005 SIENNA LE AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH MY SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID. HOWEVER, I HAVE A 2006 SIENNA LE AND UPON SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AFTER DRIVING, I CAN MOVE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SELECTOR OUT OF PARK WHEN THE KEY IS OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. THIS CONDITION CAN HAPPEN 50 PERCENT OF THE TIME AND IS QUITE REPRODUCIBLE ON MY VAN. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON INTERSTATE 90 EAST. THE CAR WHILE DRIVING WHEN I WAS GIVING GAS IT DIDNT RUN FORWARD AND IT JUST STOPPED ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH MY KIDS IN IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE RADIATOR PIPE GOT CORRODED SO THE COOLING OIL FROM THE TRANSMISSION DIDNT FLOW PROPERLY AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DURING THE CAR RUNNING.THE TOYOTA HAS SAFETY RECALL OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION FOR THE SPARE TIRE THEN SAME THING APPLIES AS THE CORROSION PART IS UNDERNEATH OF THE ENGINE.
ALL FOUR ALLOY WHEELS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE THE PAINT BUBBLING AND CHIPPING OFF LEAVING THE WHEEL EXTERIOR EXPOSED TO WEATHER AND FURTHER CORROSION. UNDERNEATH THE CHIPPED PAINT THE ALLOY IS CORRODING, POTENTIALLY COMPROMISING THE STRENGTH AND OVERALL INTEGRATY OF THE WHEELS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED AIR LOSS IN BOTH FRONT TIRES OVER THE COURSE OF JUST A FEW DAYS. MY LOCAL TIRE SHOP CHECKED BOTH FRONT TIRES FOR PUNCTURES BUT FOUND NOTHING. THEY THEN REMOVED THE TIRES FROM THE RIMS AND INDICATED THE RIMS HAD CORRODED AROUND THE OUTER DIAMETER OF THE RIM WHERE THE TIRE BEAD IS SUPPOSED TO SEAL. THEY CLEANED THE CORROSION FROM THE RIM INTERIOR AND APPLIED A BEAD SEALING COMPOUND THAT FILLS IN THE CORRODED AND PITTED BEAD AREA OF THE RIM ALLOWING THE TIRE BEAD TO SEAL AND HOLD AIR. WHEN IT COMES TIME TO ROTATE THE TIRES THE TECH PERSON INDICATED THAT I SHOULD ALSO HAVE THEM SEAL THE TIRES PLACED ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AS THEY WOULD PROBABLY START LOOSING AIR AS WELL WITH THE ADDED WEIGHT OF THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR MODEL OF THE TOYOTA SIENNA. THUS FAR,TOYOTA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE WHICH SEEMS TO ME TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

AT FIRST, I HAVE THE TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT CONTINUING TO LIT UP. THEN ONE MORNING, THE VAN WAS SLOW TO RESPONSE TO SHIFTING GEAR AND ACCELERATION. AFTER STOPPING, IT WON'T START AND MOVE INTO GEAR AT ALL. THERE WAS NO ENGINE LIGHT BEING LIT OR WARNING SIGN. TOWED TO SHORE TOYOTA AT MAYS LANDING, NJ. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION OIL HAD ALL LEAKED OUT DUE TO THE BURST OF ABRUPT FAILURE ON THE INLET TO THE RADIATOR. THEY ASKED ME TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AT A COST OF $1,150.26! AFTER REPAIRED, THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD AND DIFFICULT TO MOVE INTO GEAR. THEY QUOTED ANOTHER $3,780 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS FURIOUS. SINCE THAT THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE VAN CAN BE DRIVEN. I WAS PREPARED TO TRADE IT IN AND WEIGHING MY OPTIONS. THE VAN HAS 133,279 MILES. I DROVE IT OK INITIALLY, HOWEVER, I EXPERIENCED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO ACCELERATE TWICE. AFTER 15 MILES WHEN I STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VAN JUST STUCK- IT CANNOT MOVE IN ANY OF THE GEARS AT ALL. I TOWED BACK HOME. AFTER COOLING DOWN, IT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THE NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID SMELLED BURNT. I AM WONDERING WHY: ?WHY THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT LIT UP AT ALL WHEN THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE WAS SO HIGH BEFORE SPOILING THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION? ?WHY WAS THAT NOT EVEN ANY DTC CODES STORED ON THE OBDII SYSTEMS AT ALL AFTER ALL THESE DEFECTS? ?THIS SEEMED THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE STICKY TRANSMISSION THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT, YET TOYOTA HAS NOT INFORMING THE CUSTOMER OF ANY ACTIONS NEED TO BE TAKE. THE CAR WAS IN PARK IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. WITHOUT PUTTING THE CAR IN DRIVE, THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD AFTER I EXITED THE VEHICLE. I QUICKLY TURNED TO GET BACK IN THE CAR TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AS IT WAS ROLLING TOWARDS MY OTHER CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY. IN DOING SO, I SUFFERED A KNEE INJURY, FELL TO THE GROUND I INJURED MY KNEE AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT MADE CONTACT WITH MY OTHER CAR. THE INJURY TO MY KNEE WAS SIGNIFICANT, REQUIRED SURGERY, AND I HAVE STILL NOT RETURNED TO WORK. *TR

I HAVE CALLED DEALERS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT'S A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND IT SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY DEALER. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA LE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT IS CURRENTLY AT 76256 MILES. I HAD BOUGHT IT NEW. (DELIVERY DATE 1-JAN-2007) ON 20-DEC-2012, AT 75800 MILES, I NOTICED A WHIRRING SOUND (LIKE A TURBO WHINE) WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE GAS (NO LOAD) AROUND 45 MPH. THE GRINDING/WHIRRING NOISE WOULD BE MOST APPARENT BETWEEN 25 MPH TO 45 MPH. I TOOK IT TO MY NEAREST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 31-DEC-2012 FOR CHECKUP ( 76257 MILES AT THE TIME) AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING BAD AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE EXACT DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE "SIDE CARRIER BEARING INSIDE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL IS MAKING THE NOISE. NEED NEW TRANSMISSION - $5700.00". THE ESTIMATED COST IS $5700.00 THIS LOOKS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW IN THE TRANSMISSION, I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE DRIVEN THE VAN WITH LOT OF CARE. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT THE TOYOTA TRANSMISSION WOULD START TO FAIL AT LESS THAT 76000 MILES. I HAD BOUGHT A TOYOTA VAN ASSUMING THAT THEIR VEHICLES ARE RELIABLE. I BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY 2006 TOYOTA SIENNAS ON THE ROAD THAT WILL START HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAN CAUSE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION IF THE TRANSMISSION FAILS ON A HIGHWAY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. TOYOTA SIENNA LE 2006 WITH 72,000 MILES AUTOMATIC BROKE DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY --- REFUSING TO GO BEYOND 35MILES AN HOUR AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE TOYOTA DEALER CLAIMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT 5500 + AND DIAGNOSED ONLY TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. TO GET A SECOND OPINION, WE GOT THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AAMCO, THE TRANSMISSION EXPERTS. AAMCO REPLACED VALVE BODY, TORQUE CONVERTER, AND THEIR STANDARD BANNER KIT + TRANSMISSION COOLING SYSTEM FLUSH AND CLEAN. AAMCO ASKED US TO BE SOFT ON THE TRANSMISSION FOR A TANK OF GAS. INSPITE OF DRIVING SLOWLY, WE NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CHANGE FROM ABOUT 1ST TO 2ND GEAR WAS VERY SLOW AND THE CAR HAD LIKE A HICCUP WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND EXHIBITED VIBRATION AT HIGHER SPEEDS. WHEN WE TOOK IT BACK TO AAMCO, THEY TEST DROVE THE SAME AND NOW CLAIM THE COMPUTER (ECM?) IS NOT LEARNING THE GEAR SHIFT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. TOYOTA DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE 8YR/80000MILE WARRANTY ON THE COMPUTER IS ONLY FOR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE COMPUTER IS MISBEHAVING. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ERROR CODE, BUT THE VEHICLE REMAINS SLUGGISH. WE ARE WAITING FOR THE PRICING OF THE ECM MODULE AND WOULD SINCERELY APPRECIATE IF THE PROBLEM IS ACKNOWLEDGED AND RESOLVED BY TOYOTA. DRIVER UPON SHIFTING FROM NEUTRAL INTO DRIVE, CAR ACCELERATED AT TOP SPEED, EVENTUALLY COLLIDING WITH AN EARTHEN EMBANKMENT 80 YARDS BEYOND THE EXIT FROM A CAR WASH STRUCTURE. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT PRESSED AT ANYTIME. BRAKES WERE INEFFECTIVE. NO FLOOR MATS., EXPERIENCED ADULT MALE DRIVER WITH NO HISTORY OF ACCIDENTS. NO PASSENGERS. CAR WAS TOTALED FROM COLLISION. NO INJURIES, DRIVER AVOIDED HITTING A NUMBER OF PARKED CARS, BY STEERING AROUND THEM. ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT 10 AM AS DRIVER EMERGED FROM A CAR WASH STRUCTURE. DRIVER NOT TICKETED. TOPIC: TOYOTA ACCELERATION PROBLEM: ON JULY 4TH AT 10:00 AM, AS MY 2006 SIENNA TOYOTA WAS EMERGING FROM THE DRYER-END OF WELL KNOWN CARWASH, THE SIGNAL AT THE TERMINAL POINT INDICATED THAT I WAS TO MOVE MY CAR OUT OF THE STRUCTURE. I SHIFTED OUT OF NEUTRAL INTO DRIVE. AT THE INSTANT I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF THE CAR WASH STRUCTURE, MISSING ABOUT 12 VEHICLES AND DRIVERS IN THE PARKED AREA DRYING THEIR CARS. THE POLICE AND WITNESS SAID I REACH 60 MPH WHEN I HIT AN EMBANKMENT, DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE EXIT TO THE CARWASH PROPERTY AT THE EXIT POINT, THE EMBANKMENT WAS ACROSS THE BUSY STREET LEADING OUT OF THE CARWASH AREA. I TURNED SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT, IN A VAIN HOPE TO SLOW MY VEHICLE DOWN; TEARING OFF THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE AND WHEEL, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ON, SLIDING DOWN ONTO A BUSY ROAD. IN TRYING TO AVOID A BUSY INTERSECTION, I PULLED UP OVER THE EMBANKMENT AT A LOWER GRADE ON TO A FLAT GRASSY AREA WHERE I COULD TAKE MY RIGHT HAND OFF THE WHEEL AND PULL THE GEAR SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF IGNITION. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY TOYOTA SUBCONTRACTORS AND IS BEING REPAIRED TO BE RETURNED TO US. IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO ALLOW MY FAMILY OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER TO DRIVE THAT CAR IN THE FUTURE, THE CAR IS WORTH MORE TO US THAN TO OTHERS. THE TONE OF THE INSPECTORS AND OTHER CONTACTS WITH THE TOYOTA COMPANY WAS ONE OF SKEPTICISM. I DID NOT HAVE FLOOR MATS IN THE CAR AND I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE AND LOCATION OF MY BRAKE, CONTRARY TO THEIR SUGGESTIONS. I THINK IT IS INTERESTING THAT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INSPECTORS CONTINUE TO TREAT THEIR LOYAL CAR OWNERS WITH SUCH DISDAIN AND DISBELIEF AS IF WE ARE ALL LIARS. IT IS STRANGE THAT THE COMPLAINTS ARE ONLY COMING FROM TOYOTA OWNERS, BUT AS ONE REPORTER NOTED TOYOTA DRIVERS ARE AN AGING GROUP AND IT HAS NOT HAPPENED TO SCION DRIVERS. I HOPE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY TOYOTA. *TR
2006 TOYOTA SIENNA SURGE AND DECELERATION WHILE DRIVING. SEEMS THE VEHICLE CAN'T DECIDE WHICH GEAR TO GO IN. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT LATE AT TIMES.
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA LE MINIVAN. A MONTH AFTER THE PURCHASE I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY. THE TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK OFTEN AND VERY OFTEN WILL RUN IN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR FOR EXTENDED TIMES. WHEN THE VAN MANAGES TO GET OUT OF 2ND OR 3RD IT CLUNKS INTO 4TH. I HAVE TAKEN THE VAN TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND EVERYTIME THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE IN THE SHOP IT MUST NOT EXIST. THEY WILL NOT FIX IT AND THEY WILL NOT TAKE IT BACK. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THE VAN BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT DRIVE- IT SIMPLY JUST WONT GO BECAUSE IT HESITATES TO GO INTO THE NEXT GEAR. I DON'T FEEL SAFE TO PULL OUT IN FRONT OF OTHER VEHICLES BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS GOING TO STICK OR NOT. THE INITIAL PROBLEM HAPPENED IN NOV. 2008 ONLY A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VAN. I BOUGHT A NEW 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN. FROM THE BEGINNING, THE TRANSMISSION DROPS INTO NEUTRAL AS THE VEHICLE SLOWS FOR STOPS. UPON ACCELERATION TO MOVE THROUGH A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT, THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES IN NEUTRAL, LEAVING THOSE FOLLOWING ABOUT TO REAR END THE VEHICLE. OR, IF YOU ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE LURCHES INTO GEAR THROWING PASSENGERS FORWARD. I HAVE MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM EVERY TIME I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED. THE SERVICEMAN ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM, AND STATES THAT TOYOTA CLAIMS IT IS A MEANS TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION. THE JERKING ON THE TRANSMISSION AS THE VEHICLE GOES INTO GEAR AFTER A STOP CANNOT BE GOOD FOR THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICEMAN FURTHER STATED THAT OTHER CAR MODELS MADE BY TOYOTA HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THAT A "COMPUTER PATCH" HAD BEEN MADE AVAILABLE THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID THAT NO SUCH PATCH HAS BEEN MADE AVAILABLE FOR THE SIENNA VANS. MY CONCERN IS THAT I WILL END UP REAR-ENDED BECAUSE OF THE HESITATION OR THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL FAIL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE DRIVER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH IN AN ATTEMPT TO INCREASE SPEED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND SURGE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST HIM SINCE THE FAILURE WAS ELECTRICAL WHICH WAS ALSO A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SLOWING DOWN BETWEEN 5- 10 MPH AND THEN SPEEDING BACK UP AGAIN, THE VAN WOULD HESITATE AND THEN SURGE FORWARD TO THE POINT OF JERKING THE CONSUMERS NECK. THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN ONCE THE ACCELERATOR WAS RELEASED. ALSO, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WAS EXHIBITING A POPPING/SCRAPPING NOISE WHEN IT WAS BEING OPENED OR CLOSED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE THINNESS OF METAL WHICH ALLOWED THE CRACKING OF THE METAL WHERE THE DOOR STOP WAS ATTACHED TO THE DOOR. TRANSMISSION FAILED AT SPEED ON I-95. WITH VAN, CARGO AND 5 OCCUPANTS AT TRAFFIC SPEED IN THE RIGHT LANE, THE ENGINE RACED, THE VAN DROPPED OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL, AND WE DRIFTED TO A HALT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHILE MOVING, I SHIFTED TO "4" AND "3" THEN BACK TO "D" WITH NO ACCELERATION. HAD WE BEEN IN ANY OTHER LANE, THE TRANSITION WOULD HAVE BEEN HARDER AND MORE DANGEROUS THAN IT WAS. THE ENGINE AND OTHER VAN SYSTEMS CONTINUED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. WHEN WE WERE STOPPED, NO FORWARD GEAR PRODUCED MOVEMENT, THOUGH REVERSE WORKED. A CHECK SHOWED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AT NORMAL HOT LEVEL, THOUGH IT WAS DARKER THAN NORMAL. IT TOOK AN HOUR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TRAFFIC PASSING ALONGSIDE THE VAN VERY CLOSE AND VERY FAST, BEFORE A AAA TOW TRUCK GOT TO US. AFTER A TOW TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY DUE TO A REPORTED FAILURE OF THE FORWARD SPRAG. THE FAILED TRANSMISSION WAS RETAINED BY THE DEALER. *TR
WHILE IN PARK VAN SUDDENLY STARTS MOVING/ROLLING DOWN DRIVEWAY ON ITS OWN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO PARK IN HER DRIVEWAY AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN ROLLED UP THE DRIVEWAY AUTOMATICALLY AND PINNED HER BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE GARAGE DOOR AND THE HOOD OF VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THE PURCHASE DATE AND SPEED WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 34,046.
TRANSMISSION SLUGGISH VEHICLE DELAY WHEN CHANGING TO 2ND & 3RD GEARS. VAN USES EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF GASOLINE. VERY POOR GAS MILEAGE. WHEN I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP THEY REPROGRAMMED ENGINE CONTROL MODULE R&R HOWEVER AFTER DRIVING CAR FOR 2WEEKS PROBLEM BEGAN AGAIN. *TR
VEHICLE SURGES WHILE GENTLY APPLYING ACCELERATOR AND CAN'T DECIDE WHICH GEAR TO BE IN. TRANSMISSION APPEARS TO HESITATE, ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE AT 5-10 PMH AND WHILE TURNING. DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS COMPLETELY NORMAL. THE DRIVE-BY-WIRE SYSTEM CANNOT REACT QUICK ENOUGH TO CHANGES IN ACCELERATION. AFTER DAYS OF RESEARCH I SEE THIS IS OCCURRING ON AVALON, CAMRY, LEXUS ES300-330, HIGHLANDER, BMW,AUDI, VW TOUAREG, SUBARU...SHALL I KEEP LOOKING. OBVIOUSLY THE DRIVE BY WIRE TECHNOLOGY IS NOT MATURE AND DANGEROUS. RE-PROGRAMMING IS NEEDED. TO DATE THERE ARE NO TSB'S FOR THE 04-06 SIENNA'S REGARDING THIS ISSUE. 8JB
