TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE AT AN ANGLE, WITHOUT THE PARKING BRAKE SET, AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE TO CHECK HIS MAILBOX, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT STATED HE REPLACED THE BUSHING ON HIS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 239,450.
ON NOVEMBER 22, 2017 CLOSE TO 3 P.M., I WAS DRIVING A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA IN THE PASSING LANE ON I-90 EAST NEAR SYRACUSE, NY. THERE WAS A WHITE FORD PICKUP TRUCK DRIVING IN FRONT OF ME. THERE WAS A POLICE CAR'S FLASHING LIGHTS AHEAD OF US IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. BOTH THE PICKUP TRUCK AND I MOVED INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THE FORD PICKUP HIT THEIR BRAKES, AT WHICH POINT I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES. THE COROLLA SLOWED DOWN FOR A SPLIT SECOND, AND THEN THE BRAKES GAVE WAY. I WAS PUSHING DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY THE WHOLE TIME, BUT THE COROLLA CONTINUED TO GO FORWARD AT THE SAME SPEED. THE COROLLA THEN HIT THE REAR OF THE FORD PICKUP TRUCK. MY EYEGLASSES FLEW OFF MY FACE, AND MY DRIVER'S SEATBELT CAUGHT, BUT THE COROLLA FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT, THE COROLLA WAS TOTALED. HAD THE COROLLA'S BRAKES FUNCTIONED PROPERLY, I BELIEVE I WOULD HAVE COME TO A FULL STOP AND NOT HIT THE FORD PICK UP TRUCK.
ON 10-10-2010 (APPROX). R. FRONT BREAK CALIPER CEASED. INCIDENT ALMOST CAUSED SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT ON I-25 NORTH BOUND NEAR SANTA FE BLVD IN DENVER CO. CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. RIGHT WHEEL STARTED SMOKING AND ALMOST CAUGHT ON FIRE. TIRE WAS HOT TO THE TOUCH. TOYOTA EXTENDED WARRANTY ONLY REPLACED CALIPER, NOT ASSOCIATED DAMAGE. I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT CONSUMER PROTECTION BUREAU. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER COMPLAINTS, MOST SUBMITTED TODAY, BUT I PREVIOUS COMPLAINED ABOUT BREAKS. THIS CAR IS A DEATHTRAP/LEMON.
AFTER PERIODS OF MORE THAN ABOUT 6 HOURS, FIRST ATTEMPT AT BREAKING DOES NOT DECELERATE CAR SUFFICIENTLY TO AVOID ACCIDENT. ON GOING PROBLEM. I HAD MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA AND GO TOYOTA (FORMERLY JOHN ELWAY TOYOTA) IN DENVER, CO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND THEY DENIED ANYTHING WRONG. I'VE HAD BREAKS REPLACED SINCE START OF COMPLAINT, THEREFORE LINES HAVE BEEN BLED, BUT PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS IS MY SECOND NOTIFICATION TO NHTSA. FIRST WAS SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I HAVE TEMPORARILY REMEDIED ISSUE BY STOPPING TWICE IN PARKING LOT OR NEIGHBORHOOD STREET BEFORE DRIVING AT FULL SPEED. I HAVE TO PUT BREAK THROUGH THE FLOOR AND CAR DOES NOT HAVE FULL BREAKING POWER ON FIRST STOP. VACUUM ASSIST CHECKED OUT OK. HAD TO USE E-BREAK TO AVOID ACCIDENT ONCE. I DID NOT USE THE CAR THE WHOLE SATURDAY UNTIL 8 PM. IT WAS A VERY COLD DAY IN NY. I STARTED DRIVING AND THE BRAKES WORKED FINE FOR THE FIRST 4 MINUTES, BUT AFTER THAT I WAS GOING DOWNHILL AND THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING (THEY GOT HARD TO PRESS) AND THE MORE THAT I PRESSED THEM THE RPM BECAME LOWER, I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL, PRESSING THE GAS AND THEN THE BRAKES FINALLY WORKED BUT THEN THE CAR TURNED OFF BY ITSELF. TOYOTA HAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR COROLLA'S 09/10 BUT NOT FOR 06 SO WHEN I CALLED THEM THE REFUSED TO HELP EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM I ALMOST KILLED MYSELF, BEING ABLE TO STOP JUST A FEW FEET AWAY FROM AN INTERSECTION. *TR
I HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES ON MY CAR ALMOST EVERY 1 YEAR AND A HALF BECAUSE YOU COULD HERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES LIKE THEY ARE METAL TO METAL. ALSO HAVE IN SIDE DOME LIGHT PROBLEMS THE LIGHT WILL NOT COME ON WHEN THE DOORS ARE OPEN THE SWITCH WORKS WHEN THE DOORS ARE CLOSED AND ON ALL THE TIME. CLOCK HAS A SHORT COMES ON FOR 10 MINUTES THEN GOES OUT FOR MONTHS THEN MAYBE COME ON THE OFF FOR MONTHS. VERY UP HAPPY WITH TOYOTA COROLLA LE 2006 SHOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH A CAR THAT IS 6 YEARS OLD NOW I HAD IT 8 YEARS AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE 0-2 SENSORS. *TR
I WAS STOPPED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 8AM ON SEPT 11, 2014. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME MOVED FORWARD SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO LET MY CAR COAST FORWARD. I BRAKED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND INSTEAD OF BRAKING, THE CAR ACCELERATED. INSTANTLY THINKING I TOUCHED THE WRONG PEDAL OR THAT THE PEDAL WAS STUCK, I LOOKED DOWN (SCRUNCHING TOWARD MY RIGHT SHOULDER) TO ENSURE I WAS PRESSING FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I BRAKED AGAIN AND THE CAR SHOT FORWARD AGAIN HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I INJURED MY RIGHT SHOULDER TRYING TO PREVENT THE CRASH, SUFFERED WHIPLASH FROM THE INCIDENT AND AM STILL HURTING TODAY. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO RESPOND TO MY COMPLAINT AND REVIEW THE BLACK BOX FOR MY VEHICLE, WHICH IS CURRENTLY HOUSED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND MAY BE TOTALED AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT. *TR
AFTER DRIVING ABOUT AN HOUR ON A HIGHWAY LATE ON A VERY HUMID EVENING, I EXPERIENCED MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY WHILE TRAVELING OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE (THROUGH CONSTRUCTION AREA). THIS EXPERIENCE OCCURRED REPEATEDLY AS I CONTINUED MY RIDE ALONG MAIN SUBURBAN ROADS AND EVENTUALLY INTO A RESIDENTIAL AREA (AT LEAST 4 MORE TIMES DURING A 20-MINUTE PERIOD). I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND TOYOTA CORPORATE, WHO SAID THAT SINCE THEY COULDN'T (DIDN'T) REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, IT WAS AS IF IT NEVER HAPPENED. WHAT?!! THEY WON'T EVEN LOOK ANY DEEPER INTO MY CAR (EVEN IF I'M WILLING TO PAY THE COST) TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY NON-OBVIOUS PROBLEMS FOR FEAR OF LEGAL LIABILITY. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST TOO MUCH (~$650), AND THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE THE PROBLEM WOULD BE CORRECTED. I TOLD THEM $650 WAS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY IN COMPARISON TO SOMEONE'S LIFE BEING PUT AT RISK. I AM SOO CONCERNED THAT I'M RISKING MY LIFE (AND/OR OTHERS') BY DRIVING THE CAR, BUT I FEEL THAT I'M AT A LOSS TO GET HELP FROM THOSE BEST POISED TO HELP ME (THE MANUFACTURER & DEALER). HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM? CAN ANYONE SUGGEST HELP, OR ANOTHER AVENUE I SHOULD PURSUE? I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED MOVING FORWARD UNTIL CRASHING INTO A PATIO. THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THE VEHICLE ALSO CRASHED INTO A PRIVATE BUILDING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUFFERED DURING EITHER CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DESTROYED.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,500.
2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES FAILURE OF THE CENTRAL COMPUTER AND BRAKE FAILURE CAUSED A CRASH *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HER DAUGHTER APPLIED THE BRAKE TO REDUCE HER SPEED TO STEER AROUND ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND STEERING THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT. ULTIMATELY, HER DAUGHTER COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE HAD STALLED. ALSO, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND SHE STRONGLY IMPACTED THE SEAT BELT CAUSING INJURY TO HER SHOULDER. THE CONSUMER STATED ECU WAS REPLACED LAST APRIL AT A COST OF $700. A READING OF THE ECU THE FOLLOWING DAY, SHOWED THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE ECU MAY HAVE CAUSED THE ABS TO LOCK UP. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED A LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *JB
I AM ASKING FOR AN INVESTIGATION BEING DONE FOR MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS ABOUT TO KILLED ME ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 26TH 2011. I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK AROUND 11:30 PM AND MY TOYOTA COROLLA MADE A SPIN ROUND TWO TIMES AND WAS ABOUT TO TURN OVER BEFORE THE ENGINE SEIZED. AND TEN MINUTES BEFORE THAT MY CAR RUN THROUGH THE RED LIGHT ON ROCKAWAY TURNPIKE, I CALLED UP TOYOTA AND MADE AN COMPLAINT. THEY TOLD ME SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET IN CONTACT WITH ME WITHIN THREE BUSINESS DAY BUT NO ONE DID NOT. I ALSO CALLED TOYOTA A FEW AGO ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ,BUT THEY STATED THAT MY CAR IN NOT IN THE RECALLED. I HAVE A 2006 COROLLA. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN EVER I TRY TO STEP MY FEET ON THE BRAKES ITS LIKE SOME THING IS HOLD THE BRAKE FROM GOING DOWN. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY ASSIGNED HER A CASE MANAGER TO ASSIST WITH HER FAILURE. SHE CALLED THE CASE MANAGER AND WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE THE DEALER HAD ALREADY TOLD HER THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE THE CASE WAS CLOSED. THE CASE MANAGER ADVISED HER THAT PER THE DEALER THEY WERE BLEEDING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
2006 TOYOTA COROLLA MAKES A PULSATING SCREECHING NOISE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED OVER A BUMP, UNEVEN SURFACE, PUDDLE OF WATER OR PATCH OF ICE EVEN IF ONLY ONE TO TWO TIRES ARE ON SAID SURFACE. EVEN WHEN CAR WAS NEW, BRAKES WOULD SCREECH OCCASIONALLY AS IF PADS NEEDED REPLACING. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THAT CAR. BASED ON THAT INFORMATION, I DID NOT HAVE BRAKES CHECKED AGAIN FOR QUITE SOME TIME WHEN THEY WERE MAKING A SCRUBBING SOUND. BY THEN ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER, SCREECHING STARTED AGAIN ACCOMPANIED BY SCRUBBING NOISE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED CAUSING THE CONTACT TO BE INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE BODY DAMAGE HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE TWO MORE TIMES AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED REPLACING. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES EXHIBITED PREMATURE WEAR AND THE BODY PAINT BEGAN TO PEEL PREMATURELY. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE ALSO DEFECTIVE. LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S ENGINEERS AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES FOUND WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HER. THE CONTACT STATED SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HER WAS FLIPPED AND LANDED UPSIDE DOWN. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. SHE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK WITH ADDITIONAL BRUISING. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR ALL SEASON TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE SITTING IDLE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED RESULTING IN A CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT WAS NOT EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE BODY DAMAGE ONLY. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES WHERE AN UNKNOWN SERVICE WAS PERFORMED ON THE THROTTLE. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR SINCE THE THROTTLE REPAIR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE WEARING PREMATURELY. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE TIRES EXHIBITED PREMATURE WEAR. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AND THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE AND IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, HE WOULD HAVE TO APPLY STEADY, REPEATED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES BEFORE THEY WOULD ENGAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
ABS SYSTEM ON 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA TRIGGERS TOO EASILY AND WHEN IT DOES ACTIVATE PROVIDES LITTLE OR NO BRAKING FORCE. PROBLEM CAN BE REPRODUCED ON COBBLESTONE OR BROKEN PAVEMENT AS WELL AS ON SNOW COVERED SURFACES. OTHER CARS WITH ABS DRIVEN OVER SAME SURFACE DO NOT TRIGGER ABS. I'VE DRIVEN MANY CARS WITH ABS AND BEHAVIOR OF THIS CAR DOES MATCH ANY OF THOSE. TWO PROBLEMS HERE 1- ABS TRIGGERING TOO EASILY AND 2- NO BRAKING FORCE WHEN IT DOES. ONLY REMEDY IS TO PUMP BRAKES IN THIS SCENARIO TO RESET BRAKES AND GET SOME BRAKING BACK. COWORKER HAS ;08 COROLLA WITH SAME PROBLEM. DEALER TOLD THEM, MAYBE HE DROVE THROUGH A PUDDLE. REALLY? AREN'T CARS TO BE DRIVEN IN THE RAIN ANYMORE? INTERNET IS LITTERED WITH SIMILAR REPORTS. NEED SOME FOCUS BY NHTSA AND TOYOTA ON THIS PROBLEM. NO BRAKING POWER IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
I DROVE MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA AND THE BRAKE NOT WORKING WHEN I TRIED TO MAKE A TURN ON A SNOWY AND ICY ROAD AND ALMOST HIT BY INCOMING CARS. WE FOUND OUT THE BRAKES MAY HAVE ISSUES ESP IN THE WINTER AFTER WE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 2006. IT IS SAD TO SEE ALL THE RECALLS ARE FOR NEWER MODELS, BUT I WOULD BELIEVE SIMILAR ISSUES DO EXIST IN THE EARLIER MODELS SINCE THEY FOLLOW THE SIMILAR IF NOT SAME DESIGN IN BRAKES. ONE BIG REASON THEY DON'T PUSH FOR THOSE OLDER CARS WILL BE THE COST, BUT HOW ABOUT THE COST OF LIVES? WE WILL NEED HELP TO FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA DOES THE FOLLOWING WHEN BRAKING, IF A POTHOLE(S) OR BUMP(S) IN THE ROAD IS HIT (WHILE BRAKING AT THE SAME TIME), THE CAR FAILS TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP UNTIL THE AREA OF THE POTHOLES OR BUMPS IS PASSED. THE BRAKE PEDAL JERKS FORWARD AS IT APPEARS THAT THE BRAKES ARE FAILING TO ENGAGE OR DOES ITS JOB OF SLOWING OR STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES SINCE DAY ONE, BUT I THOUGHT THAT IT'S A SUSPENSION PROBLEM. *TR
THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION IS FROM A NARRATIVE WRITTEN WITHIN 3 HOURS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. AROUND 5:30PM ON 12/10/2008 I WAS DRIVING HOME AROUND 2-3 MILES PER HOUR DUE TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION. THE SKY WAS DARK AND IT WAS LIGHTLY RAINING. THE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 60-65 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, SO ICE WAS NOT PRESENT ON THE ROAD. THE LARGE SEMI TRUCK DIRECTLY AHEAD OF ME SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP, SO I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE. MY BRAKES DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE AN EFFECT, SO I PUSHED ON THE BRAKES HARDER. THE BRAKES STILL HAD NO EFFECT. I IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED THE CAR INTO THE 'PARK' GEAR AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. NEITHER THE SHIFTING THE GEARS NOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD ANY EFFECT ON THE CAR'S MOTION, MY CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD. I EVENTUALLY STOPPED WHEN I SMASHED INTO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK, WHICH CAUSED ABOUT $5K OF FRONT END DAMAGE FOR MY CAR AND NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK. THE TIME BETWEEN WHEN I NOTICED THE CAR WAS NOT STOPPING TO WHEN MY CAR HIT THE TRUCK WAS AROUND 2-3 SECONDS. AFTER THINKING ABOUT THESE EVENTS AFTERWARD, I DIDN'T REMEMBER HEARING THE TRANSMISSION GRIND DUE TO THE FACT THE CAR WAS IN THE 'PARK', BUT CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. AFTER THE COLLISION, THE TRUCK AHEAD OF ME LEFT AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. MY CAR STAYED STATIONARY NOW THAT ITS MOMENTUM WAS LOST. I SHIFTED THE CAR BACK INTO 'DRIVE' AND SLOWLY DROVE HOME (AROUND 20-25 MPH). THE BRAKES WORKED LIKE NORMAL AND I DIDN'T HEAR ANY NOISE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON 01/10/2009. THE MECHANIC INSPECTED THE CAR AND FOUND THE BRAKES WERE IN 'NORMAL WORKING CONDITION'. THE MECHANIC HYPOTHESIZED THAT THE CAUSE FOR THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS EITHER THE BRAKE FLUID OVERHEATED OR DRIVER ERROR. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT EITHER HYPOTHESIS. NO REPAIR WAS RECOMMENDED AND NO PARTS WERE REPLACED. I AM CONFIDENT I DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND NOT THE ACCELERATOR, SO I SUSPECT THERE MIGHT BE SOME OTHER PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES. THE BRAKES HAVE NOT FAILED SINCE THIS INCIDENT. *TR
DAUGHTER DRIVING, SMELLED AND SAW SMOKE, RIGHT FRONT TIRE AREA. TWO DAYS LATER, SAME PROBLEM, RIGHT SIDE BRAKE DRAG. TOWED TO DEALER. TOLD ME NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE SOME ONE PUT MOTOR OIL IN THE BRAKE FLUID. WENT THERE. TECH PUT FINGER IN RESERVOIR, MOTOR IS IN IT, SYSTEM IS CONTAMINATED. THE COST IS 1,300 OR MORE TO REPLACE EVERYTHING. IT DOESN'T LOOK CONTAMINATED TO ME. I GOT SAMPLES, TOP, BOTTOM OF RESERVOIR, FRONT RIGHT BLEEDER, LEFT REAR BLEEDER. OTHER THAN THE TOP SAMPLE FROM RESERVOIR WHICH WAS TAKEN USING A DIRTY BATTERY TESTER, ALL OTHER SAMPLES LOOK GOOD. TOOK SAMPLE FROM ANOTHER CAR IN SERVICE AREA WITH BATTER TESTER WHICH HAD BLACK SPECKS COMING OUT PROBABLY BECAUSE BRAKE FLUID ATE AT RUBBER. AFTER TAKING 3 OR 4 TUBE FULL AND THROWING THEM AWAY THE BLACK SPECKS WENT AWAY AND GOT THE SAMPLE. THIS SAMPLE WAS TAKEN BY THE OPERATION MANAGER. SAMPLES OF FRONT/RIGHT, REAR/LEFT, BOTTOM OF M/C WHERE DONE BY TECH AS I HELD BOTTLE. ALL DONE IN FRONT OF THE MANAGER. SAID IT WAS THE M/C THAT WAS CAUSING THE BRAKE TO HOLD PRESSURE. I ASK HOW CAN IT BE ONLY ON ONE SIDE? IF THE PRESSURE IS AT M/C WHY AREN'T BOTH WHEELS DRAGGING OR LOCKING UP? I TOOK SAMPLE TO TECH AT ANOTHER DEALER (NOT A TOYOTA DEALER) HE SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BRAKE FLUID AND TOOK TEST FOR CONTAMINATION WITH FAST STRIP TESTING. ALL WERE GOOD. HE ALSO SAID THAT M/C NOT PROBLEM. THIS IS A NON ABS SYSTEM AND WORKS PRETTY SIMPLE. CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE 3 TIMES TO TALK TO TOYOTA REP, DEALER AND TOYOTA REFUSED ACCESS TO REP. THE DEALER GAVE ME THIS CHOICE... WE WILL DO YOU A FAVOR AND REPLACE THE M/C AT NO COST, HOWEVER IF ANY OTHER PROBLEMS IT WILL BE CONSIDERED CONTAMINATED AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY. WE ALREADY KNOW THE FRONT RIGHT WAS HEATED BEYOND A SAFE HEAT TEMPERATURE WHICH WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS. THIS PUTS ME IN A NO WIN SITUATION WITH THE DEALER AND TOYOTA! IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM PLEASE REPORT
I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE ON 06-26-06. ON 02-05-07 VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT STILL DIDN'T START. I CALLED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HE TOLD ME TO GET A JUMP OFF BECAUSE IT WAS THE BATTERY DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER. I GOT A JUMP OFF AND IT STILL WOULD START. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND HE TOLD ME TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I DID THAT AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE NEEDED ALL KEYS TO SEE IF IT WAS THE KEYS AND IT WASN'T. HE THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS AND IT WASN'T. THEN HE SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER. THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AND I STILL HAVE TROUBLE CRANKING IT NOW. I WOULD TURN THE KEY AND IT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, IT WOULD CRANK. BEFORE THIS INCIDENCE, IN JULY 2006, NOT EVEN A MONTH AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE, MY BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING AND THEY STILL DO NOW. THE ROTOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. EACH TIME I TAKE IT FOR SERVICING, I'M TOLD THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS WITH NO RESPONSE. NOW I'VE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING HER 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA (200 FAILURE MILEAGE) AT 25 MPH SHE CAME TO RED LIGHT. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES WHICH SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN, BUT DID NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ON ANOTHER OCCASION SHE HAD TO SWERVE TO KEEP FROM HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR, BECAUSE OF THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE VEHICLE ONLY SLOWED TO 30 MPH. ALSO, WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THERE WAS A EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. FURTHERMORE, THE ODOMETER HAD BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. UPDATED 11/30/2006 - *NM
