I HAVE FRONT SIDE AND P. SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR NOT WORKING ALL OF SUDDEN. IT REFLECTS AIR BAG SIGN ON INTO MY DASHBOARD.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 - 65 MPH. I AM A CAUTIOUS DRIVER AND AM ALWAYS AWARE OF THE CONDITIONS AROUND ME. SUDDENLY, MY CAR JUST TOOK OFF LIKE A SHOT. IT WAS GOING AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH SPEED ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER IT. THERE ARE DARK SKID MARKS ON THE ROAD FROM MY BRAKING. I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT, BUT THE NEXT THING I KNEW I HAD FLIPPED INTO THE MEDIAN. I FLIPPED TWO TIMES IN THE AIR BEFORE CRASHING, HOOD FIRST, ON THE MEDIAN. I DID NOTHING TO CAUSE THIS. I WAS MERELY DRIVING, IN THE SLOW LANE, AT A SAFE SPEED. IT IS A MIRACLE I AM ALIVE, AND EVEN MORE-SO THAT I WASN'T INJURED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AT THE END OF THE ACCIDENT, MY SEAT BELT WAS UNLATCHED. I AM GOING TO RECEIVE A CITATION FOR THIS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON 2005 CAMRY'S SINCE THIS HAPPENED, AND HAVE SEEN THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED FROM THIS FAULT AND I NEARLY WAS. I WANT TO KNOW WHY TOYOTA DIDN'T WARN US OF THIS. I KNOW THE VIN NUMBER SAYS NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THIS MODEL, BUT RESEARCH TELLS ME THAT INVOLVED RESEARCH IN SELF-ACCELERATING GAS PEDALS REPORT 'DISTURBING EVIDENCE OF PROBLEMS POTENTIALLY AFFLICTING THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM GOVERNING THE GAS PEDAL, PROBLEMS THAT TOYOTA AND THE HIGHWAY SAFETY AGENCY HAVE SO FAR DISMISSED.' TAKATA RECALL: AFTER BACKING OUT OF A PARKED POSITION, I BUMPED THE REAR OF THE CAR INTO A STATIONARY POLE. AFTER THE COLLISION OCCURRED, NO AIRBAGS OPENED AND THE "AIR BAG" LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED ON. ADDITIONALLY THE "PASSENGER AIRBAG" LIGHT TURNED FROM "ON" TO "OFF". NO DAMAGE WAS CAUSED EXCEPT TO THE BACK BUMPER OF THE CAR.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN THE REVERSE POSITION, THE CONTACT APPLIED MINIMAL PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT IT ACCELERATED RAPIDLY ON ITS OWN INTO A CONCRETE POLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000. UPDATED 07/12/17*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE SPED UP. PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG LOOKS LIKE IT IS READY TO OPEN UP & DEPLOY-STARTED OUT ON A SMALLER PORTION, BUT GETS WORSE BY THE DAY. POSSIBLY DUE TO THE HEAT HERE IN FL STATE?? I HAVE OWNED TOYOTA CAMRY'S SINCE THE 1990'S; LIVED IN NY STATE AND FL STATE, & NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAGS. THIS IS QUITE DISTURBING & SCARY-SHOULD I CALL THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER & SET UP AN APPOINTMENT? IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO OTHER VEHICLES AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A HEAD INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

APPROX 1 YEAR AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON SHOWING THE AIR BAG WAS NOT WORKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE TO RECALIBRATE IT, AND I WAS CHARGED APPROXIMATELY $90.00 FOR THE WORK.. IT WORKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS, AT WHICH TIME THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN SHOWING THE AIR BAG WAS NOT WORKING. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE AIRBAG IS DEFECTIVE OR NOT, BUT I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY $90.00 EVERY TWO WEEKS TO HAVE AN AIRBAG RE-CALIBRATED. I NOTICED SOMETIME BACK THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG COVER IS COMING UNDONE. *TR
ONE EARLY EVENING A DEER JUMPED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND I HIT THE DEER HEAD ON ABOUT 35 - 40 MPH. IT STOPPED MY CAR THE IMPACT WAS SO BIG. THE WEIRDEST THINGS HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE THOUGH. MY BUMPER IS MESSED UP DENT IN THE HOOD BUT INSTEAD OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYING THE SENSOR BROKE OFF AND STARTED DANGLING BEHIND MY BUMPER UNDER THE HOOD. WESTBOUND ON I-285, MIDDLE LANE, A CAR STOPPED TOTALLY IN FRONT OF US, AT DUSK. WE HAD 5-6 VEHICLE LENGTHS BETWEEN US ,BUT MOMENTARILY DID NOT REALIZE THE CAR IN FRONT WAS NOT MOVING, AS SHE DID NOT EVEN PUT ON HER BRAKE LIGHTS. WE BRAKED, HITTING HER IN THE REAR BUMPER. WE WERE NEARLY HIT BY A TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND US, BUT MERCIFULLY, HE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE FRONT OF HIS RIG TO THE RIGHT LANE BESIDE US. WE REALIZED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THAT OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, EITHER SIDE. THE SEAT BELTS REALLY HELD US. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA REQUESTING THEY PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO SEE IF THE AIRBAGS ARE FUNCTIONAL. WE SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER PER THEIR INSTRUCTIONS 4/16/14. THEIR STATED RESPONSE TIME IS TWO WEEKS, BY LETTER. WE STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. WHILE THE CAR HAS HAD SOME SMALL FENDER BENDERS ON ITS REAR, IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OF THIS MAGNITUDE. SEATBELT LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING THAT THE SEAT BELTS AND AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK IF THERE IS A CRASH. THERE HAS BEEN NO CRASH OR INCIDENT UP TO THIS POINT. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF EMERGENCY? *JS
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STAYS OFF FOR A SMALLER ADULT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. (~95LBS). ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THIS IS NORMAL, AND THAT THE ADULT MAY NEED TO PUT ON WEIGHT. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR SHOULD TURN ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY, OR STAY OFF WITH AN ADULT SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE PASSENGER IS SEATED CORRECTLY. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST FOR ADULTS UNDER 95LBS. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS TOYOTA. APPARENTLY, TOYOTA NOW HAS A TSB OUT - TSB EL005-05 TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. HOWEVER, SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL, THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED IN THE VEHICLE. *TR

BOTH CARS WERE TOTALED AND SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE. [XXX] AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, DESPITE THE FACT HIS VEHICLE SUSTAINED LARGE IMPACTS TO BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK OF HIS CAR. I WAS ENTERING MY PARKING SPOT. I WAS COMING TO A HALT WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE BOLTED FORWARD AT FULL ACCELERATION, JUMPED THE CURB, SPED ACROSS THE GRASS, AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I SUSTAINED NECK AND RIB INJURIES. TOYOTA HAS THE VEHICLE AND WILL SHORTLY SEND ME THE RESULTS OF THE EDR DATA ANALYSIS. *JS
MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY LE WAS TRAVELING AT ROUGHLY 35 MPH WHEN IT CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF A JEEP CHEROKEE. THE ACCIDENT WAS A HEAD ON COLLISION, WHICH TOTALED THE CAMRY. THE AIRBAGS FOR THE CAMRY DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAMRY, INCLUDING THE BUMPER WAS DESTROYED. DAMAGES EXTENDED TO THE FRAME AND ALL FRONT END PARTS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE IF NEEDED. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA AND FILED A COMPLAINT, BUT THEIR RESPONSE WAS LESS THAN SATISFACTORY. THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER TO CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY, AND TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE ONLY SPECIFIC SITUATIONS IN WHICH THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY. MY POSITION IS THAT THIS WAS A DIRECT HEAD ON COLLISION THAT DESTROYED MY 2005 CAMRY; THEIR WAS FRONT END FRAME DAMAGE, AND EVERY FRONT END PART FROM HEAD LIGHT TO HEAD LIGHT WAS DESTROYED IN THE ACCIDENT. MY DAUGHTER WAS HURT IN THE ACCIDENT, AND THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF THE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED AS ADVERTISED BY TOYOTA. *TR

THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS BOTH NOTIFIED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE AIR BAGS TO BE DEFECTIVE AND STATED THEY HE AND HIS PASSENGER COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
THE GAS PEDAL RACED TO THE FLOOR BOARD,THE AUTO RACED ACROSS AMEDIAN, WENT UP AN EMBANKMENT A CROSS AHIGHWAY CAME DOWN ON THE OTHER SLOPE, WE HIT A TREE AT AHIGH RATE OF SPEED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHILE TRAVELING TO ATLANTIC CITY ON 7/6/2010,I BEGAN TO EXIT AT EXIT #7 ON THE GARDEN STATE PKWY., THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR BOARD, I COULD NOT CONTROL THE AUTO, MY WIFE AND I TRAVELED ACROSS A FIELD , WENT UP AN EMBANKMENT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY WENT DOWN THE OTHER SIDE AND HIT A TREE AT AHIGH RATE OF SPEED BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS, BUT WE ESCAPED WITH MINOR INJURIES. *TR

THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER WAS DAMAGED BY THE POLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED BACK AND SHOULDER INJURIES AND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR THREE DAYS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. TOYOTA WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

ON MAR. 1 2010 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC AT 30 MPH WHEN SHE REAR- ENDED THE CAR AHEAD. HER HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS RENDERED UNCONSCIOUS. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED DESPITE MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE. HER MEMORY OF WHAT HAPPENED WAS LOST BUT SHE FELT THE CAR HAD JUMPED OR SURGED JUST BEFORE. MY HUSBAND HAD A WRECK IN WHICH THE AIRBAGS IN MY CAR DIDN'T DEPLOY. HE T-BONED A STEEL POLE AND THEN WENT INTO A RAVINE ABOUT 20 FEET DOWN HILL AND THEN T-BONED A TREE. THE CAR WAS GOING ABOVE 30 MILE AN HOUR AND NO BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT ANY TIME. HE KNOCKED THE POLE WITH THE CONCRETE STILL ATTACHED AND HAD BEEN BURIED ABOUT 2FT. IN THE GROUND DOWN INTO THE RAVINE AND TORE THE BRANCHES FROM THE TREE. THE FRONT OF THE CAR TOOK SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND IT WAS REPORTED TO ME THAT THE FRAME WAS BENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. HE HIT HIS HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND RECEIVED A BROKEN NOSE AND A LARGE KNOT ON HIS FOREHEAD DUE TO NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR

THE LOCAL SERVICE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT; HOWEVER THE DEALER ADDITIONAL TESTING WILL BE PERFORMED BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS REPAIRED. THE POLICE FILED A REPORT AT THE SCENE AND THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY ALSO FILED A REPORT.
