TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, CAUSING HER TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, SHE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THIS ITEM IS NOT A TOTAL FAILURE YET BUT IS HEADED IN THAT DIRECTION. THE POWER STEERING HOSE IS LEAKING FLUID WHERE IT JOINS THE RACK AND PINION STEERING ASSEMBLY. WHEN THE FLUID ALL LEAKS OUT I WILL HAVE NO POWER ASSIST IN MY STEERING AND IT COULD COME AT ANY MOMENT. MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER ( DEL TOYOTA IN THORNDALE, PA) REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO ME WHILE THIS CAR WAS BEING SERVICED FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED YET. A NEIGHBOR OF MINE TOLD ME THAT HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS TOYOTA AVALON WHICH WAS A COUPLE OF YEARS OLDER THAN MY CAR. I AM REPORTING THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE MAYBE TOYOTAS IN MY AGE REGION ARE ALSO EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND TOYOTA IS NOT ADMITTING TO A COMPONENT WEAKNESS IN THE POWER STEERING AREA AND MIGHT EVENTUALLY AGREE TO FIX IT. I HAVE NOTICED RECALLS OF CARS UP TO AROUND 10-15 YEARS OLD WHERE THE PROBLEMS MANIFEST THEMSELVES OVER EXTENDED TIME PERIODS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY LIMITED EDITION. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES ON HER LEFT, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SPINNING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE ENGINE REVVED LOUDLY AND AS SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. WHILE IN THE DITCH, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO IDLE AND THE TIRES BURROWED INTO THE DITCH AS IT ATTEMPTED TO PROGRESS. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER HEAD, SHOULDERS, UPPER BACK, HANDS, FINGERS, KNEES AND NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS OVER 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECOMES STUCK WHILE IN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. TO RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HE HAS TO STOMP ON THE PEDAL. ALSO HE EXPERIENCES DIFFICULT STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
I WAS DRIVING AROUND 30MPH, AND THE CAR STARTED TO BUCK. AS I APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, AND THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN AT ALL. THE BRAKES FAILED, AND STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. MY ROAD WAS ENDING, SO I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT.
