2016 Subaru Outback Engine Problems

Cam Carrier leak due to a factory design. Yes it is available for a inspection. This causes a lot of oil to leak, oil is flammable and the dealer told me there is a high risk of an engine fire due to this.

At 59,000 miles, engine developed “heavy leak from cam carriers” by dealer service department. It was recommended that it be resealed. Engine was removed and serviced.

Twice since november,'19 and most recently on 3/14/2020, when stopped at an intersection, with foot on brake, the engine revved up wildly. Then, in both incidents I attempted to put car in neutral. Gearshift would not move.

My 2016 Outback 2.5L model experienced an exhaust noise and/or odor coming from cracks at the bellows section of the front exhaust pipe which includes the catalytic converter. Issue with the vehicle's exhaust being loud - upon dealership's multi-point inspection, cracked bellows was identified. On two occasions while driving on the interstate at 65-75 MPH with no warning the gas pedal stopped responding to inputs. While maneuvering the vehicle to the shoulder of the road through traffic the engine shutoff. On one occasion I was able to restart the vehicle and on the second occasion it would not restart.

Accelerated on its own doing 25mph and accelerated quickly and took pumping brakes to get it to stop

We have experienced slight acceleration issues when at standstill. For example parking in our garage, nosing to the front and the car will lurch forward. We always been able to control it but we do have to watch out.

The front exhaust pipe bellows cracked. When the car was cold started and then driven, a rattle came from the engine bay when driven at 2500 RPM. When the engine warms up, the rattle goes away.

Car dies and won't start a new battery will last 6 months.

A valve spring failed, causing the valve to break and become embedded in the piston.this caused the vehicle to be inoperable.

In 6 months, I got more than 10 times of low level engine oil light on. First time, it was on jan. 2020, it was 3,000 miles from the last oil change.

Coming to a stop at curbside. Applying light pressure to the brake. Vehicle started to pull forward.

This event does not happen unless starting when engine is cold and transmission is put in gear with brakes applied. The surge does not happen after a short warm up.

My wife was driving car on highway and was waiting in traffic to take a ramp exit. Our subaru outback's engine suddenly stopped. Car had to be put in park gear and then restarted before it was drive-able.

I am concerned about the toxic chemicals that may have been used on the plastics inside the vehicle. The "new car smell" is especially fragrant, and after sitting in the car for less than five minutes, I develop a metallic taste in my mouth that lingers, even if I have left the car. It can linger for hours.
