I was driving on the freeway and the vehicle stopped, rolled to a stop, and wouldn't start up again. This resulted in a serious accident. I pushed the hazard button but the other drivers account of the accident was that the lights were off.

The horn stopped working. It has been diagnosed as a bad relay switch that is imbedded with the driver airbag in the steering wheel. This should not be happening to a well maintained vehicle that has been serviced regularly.

Rapid acceleration - this has happened twice to our subaru. The first incident was about a year ago. My wife was driving and I was the passenger.

The windshield cracked in the bottom corner of the passenger side, merely as a result of the windshield wiper retracting onto it while being washed. (I have never in my 30+ years of driving cars had a windshield crack from the impact of a windshield wiper retracting onto it!!!) the crack has since spread almost to the driver side.

I heard a pop on the highway, although nothing hit my vehicle. Several small cracks appeared-one quickly got larger. I had called subaru a few months before about the pop as my mechanic said the windshield should be replaced-there was no reaction to this complaint.

Traveling from kansas city mo to phoenix windshield developed crack while driving. We were traveling in a light rain and there was some very small pea gravel being thrown up by passing cars on the opposite side of car. The crack centered over the passenger wiper about 4 inches upward.

Noticed a small crack in the windshield the morning of 7/23/15, I do not recall anything hitting my windshield, by lunch time the crack had spread half way across the windshield. Now to replace the windshield I'm told it is on national back order and may take quite a while to get a replacement. Sounds to me like subaru installed cheep or defective glass windshields.

The child safety lock on the passenger side will not disengage. Our child is old enough now to operate the door safely but she cannot open the door from the inside. I feel that this is a great safety concern and the dealer should take care of the cost.

Purchased this car in 2019 from dealer as a pre certified vehicle. Replaced original battery(dealer said it was)in 8/2021. As I had to have it jumped, battery drain.

I have had to have my battery replaced almost every year since I bought this car and there is always a large amount or corrosion no matter how often I clean it. I just read that this has been a known issue of Subaru. I literally just had the dealership in late November tell me at an oil change that I needed to replace my battery.

I proudly purchased my 2015 Subaru Outback, new, in April 2015. I currently have less than 18,000 miles on it. During the time I have owned my Outback, I have had to replace the battery 5 times, through no fault of my own.

The electric tailgate sometimes malfunctions and gets stuck in an open position, and can only be forced closed manually by a strong person. My girlfriend has trouble closing it, and was forced to drive home with the tailgate open. This is unsafe - the tailgate sticks out past the back of the car, following traffic can't see her tail lights, and exhaust gas can be drawn into the car.

Child lock on back passenger door is locked down so you can't get out unless someone from outside opens. I never used the child lock and have no idea how it got down. Took it to subaru dealership and they said it would $350 to fix it.

During the fall of 2019, I noticed an exhaust smell when starting my 2015 subaru outback in my garage. This smell coincided with the car running rough when starting and the exhaust smell entering the cabin when the heater was turned on. I did not notice this cabin exhaust smell in the summer due to using the AC on recirculate.

I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY COMING TO STOP FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED. I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE BUT IT WOULDN'T STOP. FINALLY I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TAPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ENGINE TUNED DOWN. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN 2017 FROM HONDA NORTH.IN BUTLER PA. AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. KEY STUCK IN IGNITION WHEN I PARKED AND TRIED TO TAKE KEY OUT. I WAS AWAY FROM HOME. EVENTUALLY, I MOVED GEARS AND I PUSHED KEY INWARDS AND IT RELEASED. I JUST HAD A HEFTY REPAIR BILL BEFORE DISCOVERING RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE ON EARLIER MODELS.

THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2015 OUTBACK CRACKED FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE BOTTOM UPWARD THEN TURNED TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE IN AN L SHAPE. TOOK IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND THEY OF COURSE CLAIM THAT THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AN IMPACT THAT CAUSED THE CRACK. THE ASST. SERVICE MANAGER ACTUALLY ARGUED WITH ME AND CLAIMED THAT YOU COULD FEEL A POINT OF IMPACT WHERE A ROCK "MUST HAVE HIT" AND BLAMED THAT FOR THE CRACK. I CAN FEEL NO POINT OF IMPACT AND WAS IN FACT DRIVING THE CAR WHEN THE CRACK HAPPENED AND KNOW THAT NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD. DESPITE THE CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THESE WINDSHIELDS, SUBARU IS STILL NOT WILLING TO REPLACE IT AFTER THEIR "CLOSE AND CAREFUL" INSPECTION THAT TOOK ABOUT 10 SECONDS. THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT. THEY CLEARLY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE WINDSHIELDS AND ARE DOING NOTHING TO CORRECT IT, EVEN REFUSING TO REPLACE ONES THAT DO HAVE A PROBLEM. BESIDES BEING A BAD BUSINESS MOVE FOR SUBARU, THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR CONSUMERS.

WINDSHIELD SPONTANIOUSLY CRACKED FROM PASSENGER B PILLER TO CENTER. WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE A MOTEL IN AZ ON A COLD, FROSTY RAINEY DAY. I HAD TURNED ON DEFROSTER AND HEATER. AS WE STARTED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE TO THE FREEWAY , PASSENGER AND I BOTH HEARD A POP AND NOTICED A CRACK RUNNING FROM BEHIND THE PASSENGER B PILLER TO THE CENTER. NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE MOVING NEAR MY VEHICLE. SUBARU HAS DENIED CLAIM CLAIMING WINDSHIELD DAMAED BY A ROCK. I HAVE NEVER NOTICE A ROCK STRIKE ON THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BUT NOT IN TRAFFIC- ON ACCESS ROAD.

THE SRVD (BLIND SPOT) NOT WORKING INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON--MEANING THE BLIND SPOT MECHANISM WILL NOT WORK. I HAVE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED AGAIN WHICH MAY ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER PUBLISHED COMPLAINTS AS DETAILED IN CONSUMER FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. THE BLIND SPOT LIGHT ON THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS WILL WILL NOT WORK IF THE SRVD IS NOT FUNCTIONING.

PLEASE READ UPLOAD DOCUMENTS. MY 2015 SUBARU OUTBACK BEGAN SHOWING SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IN THE SUMMER 2018. APPARENTLY THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SUBARU AND CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED AGAINST SUBARU FOR MODELS MADE PRIOR TO 2015. MY VEHICLE FAILED A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST IN THE FALL OF 2018. I WAS TOLD BY WHITE BEAR SUBARU IF THE VEHICLE FAILED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST SUBARU OF AMERICA WOULD PAY TO HAVE A NEW SHORT BLOCK INSTALLED DUE TO THIS ONGOING ENGINE DEFECT. HOWEVER, SUBARU OF AMERICA REFUSED TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT TO HAVE A NEW SHORT BLOCK INSTALLED AS EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS MAKE IN 2014 IT IS TECHNICALLY A 2015 THAT THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ONLY PROTECTED CONSUMERS OF MODELS PRIOR TO 2015. ALSO, IN THE FALL OF 2018 THE INTERIOR OF THIS VEHICLE BEGAN TO HAVE A EXHAUST SMELL AND WAS MAKING ME FEEL SICK. THEY DETERMINED THAT PART OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS BROKEN BUT TOLD ME NOT TO HAVE IT FIXED BEFORE THE NEW SHORT BLOCK WAS INSTALLED AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WOULD JUST BECOME CLOGGED WITH THE OIL THE CAR WAS BURNING. I WENT AHEAD HAD HAD THE REPAIR DONE ANYWAY AS THE EXHAUST AIR WAS TERRIBLE.

EXHAUST SYSTEM ISSUE. EXHAUST MAINFOLD LEAK AT CATALYST CONVERTER. FOR OUR OUTBACK WE NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT LEVELS OF EXHAUST FUMES IN PASSENGER CABIN. THEY WERE NO INDICATION OF FAILURE OF EXHAUST SYSTEM OR CATALYST CONVERTER ON THE CAR. BUT WE ARE GETTING SOME MUCH FUMES SMELL WHEN WE STOPPED AT THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL OR PARKING LOT. IT ALL MOST MADE US SICK. LUCKILY I GOT IT CHECKED AT THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY FIND THE LEAK. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY RISKY THING FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T NOTICE THE SMELL MIGHT GET SLOW POISONED WITH CARBON MONOXIDE OR OTHER ELEMENTS IN EXHAUST FUMES. THERE MAY BE DIRECT INJURY FROM THIS ISSUE BUT AS I SAID I WAS ALMOST GOT SICK BECAUSE OF FUMES. FOR PEOPLE WITH PZEV VEHICLE, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. PLEASE BRING THIS ISSUE WITH MANUFACTURING. FOR PEOPLE OUT THERE IF YOU NOTICE A LOUD EXHAUST NOTE AT START OF YOUR VEHICLE OR SMALL RATTLING NOISE WHEN WE YOU ACCELERATE AFTER A COMPLETE STOP, IT MIGHT BE YOUR EXHAUST SYSTEM, PLEASE GET IT CHECKED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. PS ATTACHED IS THE DIAGNOSIS REPORT FROM DEALER SERVICE CENTER BE SAFE OUT THERE !! THANK YOU.

SUNROOF EXLOSION. ON FEBRUARY 1, 2016 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT ABOUT 8:00 AM RUSH HOUR AND WHILE IN THE MOVING LINE ENTERING THE EASTWARD US I69 AT THE TEXAS HWY 6 SOUTH ENTRANCE IN SUGAR LAND TEXAS, AT AN AVERAGE SPEED BETWEEN 5-10 MPG THE SUNROOF OF OUR 2016 SUBARU 3.6R WITH 11305 MILES EXPLODED AND SHATTERED INTO HUNDREDS OF SMALL PIECES THAT COLLECTED ON THE SUNLIGHT PROTECTIVE SCREEN. AFTER I TALKED TO MY WIFE AND VERIFIED THAT SHE HAD RECEIVED NO DAMAGE FROM THE INCIDENT I CALLED THE GILLMAN SOUTHWEST HOUSTON SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR ON MAY 30 2015 AND MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY. DURING THE SERVICE CHECK-IN ON FEBRUARY 2, 2016 TOGETHER WITH THE GILLMAN SERVICE CONSULTANT WE LOOKED AS THOROUGHLY AS IT WAS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE GLASS DEBRIS TO TRY TO FIND ANY FOREIGN OBJECT THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE DAMAGED BUT WE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. I VERY SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED THAT WHEN THE SUNROOF WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE CAR FOR REPLACEMENT THAT THEY PERFORM ANOTHER SEARCH SINCE IT WOULD BE EASIER TO DO THE SEARCH WITH THE SUNROOF ASSEMBLY OUT ON THE FLOOR. WHEN THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND RETURNED THE GILLMAN REPRESENTATIVE CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD DONE ANOTHER SEARCH BUT FAILED TO FIND ANY FOREIGN OBJECT ON THE GLASS DEBRIS. BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE A SUNROOF ON STOCK I LEFT THE CAR ON THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL FEBRUARY 5, 2016 WHEN THE CAR WAS RETURNED. DURING THE CHECKOUT I WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE CAR WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS ASSUMED THAT A FOREIGN OBJECT HAD CAUSED THE DAMAGE AND I WAS CHARGED $666.34 THE DECEMBER 2017 EDITION OF CONSUMER REPORTS MADE ME REALIZE THAT THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE REPORTED.

THERE IS A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT SHOWED UP ABOUT 5 MONTHS AND HAS INCREASED IN SIZE. BEFORE BRINING IT TO THE DEALER (NAPOLEON SUBARU IN SCHAUMBURG, IL), I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE CRACK WAS DUE TO THE FAULTY WINDSHIELD AND NOT BECAUSE OF ANY IMPACT. THERE HAS BEEN NO IMPACT TO THE WINDSHIELD TO MY KNOWLEDGE AND YET THE CRACK APPEARED AND HAS SPREAD. SUBARU DEALER SAID THAT THE CRACK MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY AN IMPACT BUT AGAIN I DON'T RECOLLECT ANY IMPACT THAT COULD CAUSE THIS. THE SUBARU DEALER SAID HE DID HIS PEN POINT CHECK AND THE CRACK WAS NOT CAUSED BY SUBARU'S FAULT. WHAT THE SUBARU DEALER TOLD ME ABOUT THE PEN POINT CHECK MAKES NO SENSE TO ME ESPECIALLY AS THERE HAS BEEN NO IMPACT TO MY WINDSHIELD. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT SUBARU AND THE DEALER ARE LYING ABOUT THE FAULTY WINDSHIELD AND ARE REFUSING TO REPLACE IT (WHICH I AM ASSUMING IS ALSO A FAULTY OEM PART). I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS BEFORE AND I'VE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE. I REPEAT, NEVER BEFORE ON ANY CAR, ESPECIALLY A NEW CAR. I CHECKED WITH A LOCAL MECHANIC AND AGAIN, WAS TOLD THIS WAS LIKELY CAUSED BY FAULTY WINDSHIELD. EITHER TO AVOID ADMITTING FAULT OR TO AVOID PAYING FOR A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM OR FOR AVOIDING LIABILITY IN A LAWSUIT, I DON'T KNOW BUT I FEEL LIKE SUBARU IS DELIBERATELY LYING OR MISREPRESENTING THE FACTS ABOUT IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I SHOULD EXPECT FROM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT BUT I AM WRITING BECAUSE I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS. PASSENGER SIDE BLIND SPOT INDICATOR IS INTERMITTENT (PERHAPS 50%). IT DOES NOT ALWAYS INDICATE THAT AN OBJECT IS IN IT'S VIEW WHEN IT ACTUALLY IS. IF YOU DEPEND UPON THIS DEVICE TO MAKE LANE CHANGES, YOU COULD HAVE A COLLISION. IT FAILS WHILE MOVING AT ANY SPEED ABOVE ABOUT 5-10 MPH AND WEATHER DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND HE IS UNABLE TO FIX IT EVEN AFTER REPLACING BOTH BLIND SPOT SENSORS. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW AND CONTINUES TO DATE. THE DEALER GAVE ME A 2016 LOANER MODEL WHEN WORKING ON MY CAR AND IT HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

The windshield has developed a small crack on the passenger side behind the windshield wiper. I took it to the dealer and they claim there is an impact point at the origin of the crack, yet there is no evidence of any damage whatsoever to the wiper assembly. 7/28/15 - I came out to my 2015 subaru outback at the end of the work day and found a "v" shaped crack in my windshield, approx 9-11 inches in each direction, originating below the windshield wiper in the middle of the windshield. My first thought was defect in the glass since the temperature that day was approx. 7/29/15 - I went to the nearby dealership and upon inspection by the service dept.

About two weeks after buying a new 2015 outback, while driving out of our somewhat steeply-angled garage, the windshield cracked. Windshield has failed twice with no impacts.
