in 2023 my car started overheating. took it in and it was the headgasket. even with the age of my car, it only had just over 105,000 miles on it. looking at other subarus for sale out of curiosity, I saw that quite a lot had their engines replaced. even newer than mine. i do see this as a expensive problem, which I know first hand. the headgasket went while i was on the freeway. tried to make it home, wasn't to far away, but had to be towed.
The car got overheated on 8/20/2022, because of the mechanical and design issue, specifically the coolant pipe and hose connection which got disconnected and blew up with force ejecting hot coolant liquid. The incident almost killed my husband. The hot liquid burned his abdomen and my face. He got transported by an ambulance, got admitted to a hospital, and got a 2nd-degree burner. This entire incident endangered my entire family members while we were far from home on a road trip adventure. My kids are under 10, and they were worried and crying. The incident definitely was reproducible, because, within a 3 hours window, the hose got disconnected 4 times, where the 4th time it hit my husband and me. A Yosemite Park Ranger was helping us inspect the car on the 3rd and 4th failure. For our safety, we have not been driving the car since 8/21/2022. So, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer.
My 2011 Outback had a head gasket failure at 98,000 miles. The car overheated which forced me to pull over in heavy traffic. There was no prior warning or symptoms until the engine temperature warning light appeared. The car was repaired by the dealership at a hefty price. They said this problem is common on these vehicles, though no recall has been issued on the part. I filed a complaint with the manufacturer.
WHILE DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY, TO AVOID A SUDDEN ACCIDENT, I WAS FORCED TO HIT MY BRAKES. MY VEHICLE TURNED COMPLETELY OFF. I WAS IN A NEAR COLLISION MYSELF. THE NEXT DAY WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT LIGHT, MY VEHICLE AGAIN COMPLETELY SHUT OFF.
VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND STALLS WHEN STOPPING. SUBARU ADMITS THERE'S A PROBLEM IN A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL.
HEAD GASKET BLEW, OUT OF NOWHERE, NO ISSUES LEADING UP TO THIS. CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED. IT HAD AROUND 108,000 MILES. COST CLOSE TO 2,800 TO REPAIR, NOT WORTH IT. DEALER SEEMED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE PRIOR TO CHASE IN GASKET PLATE STARTING IN 2012, BUT DOESN'T HELP PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN. NO RECALL OR CLASS ACTION SUIT, WHICH IS SAD.
IM APPALLED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAS NOT BEEN CONSIDERED A RECALL CONSIDERING ALL THE COMPLAINTS FILED ON IT. I WAS QUOTED $1900 TO HAVE THIS REPLACED ! THIS IS ABSURD AND I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS REPAIR AND BELIEVE SUBARU SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE CONSIDERING THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS. NO INCIDENT WHILE DRIVING....YET. WANT TO REPORT A COMMON AND KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SUBARU'S, THE HEAD GASKET. DEALER JUST QUOTED ME $2000 ON THIS, AND MOST FOLKS KNOW THIS IS DUE TO A POOR DESIGN. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE CAR STOPS DUE TO OIL AND COOLANT ISSUES WHILE TRAVELING FAST. *TR
DUE TO A WELL-KNOWN DESIGN FLAW THE ENGINE HAD A SEVERE HEAD GASKET LEAK. THE LEAK LEAD TO A FOAMING OF THE COOLANT AND A PRESSURE BREAK IN THE COOLANT RESERVOIR. THE CAR HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE ON THE FREEWAY AND COULD HAVE LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS SERVICED THE PREVIOUS AUGUST BY A DEALER. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO ANSWER MY DIRECT QUESTION IF THEY DID A FLUSHING OF THE SYSTEM WHICH COULD HAVE LED TO THE DAMAGE BUT, IT IS A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THE SUBARU 4 CYLINDER 2.5 L ENGINE HAS HAD A SEVERE FLAW IN ITS DESIGN. *TR
THE HEAD GASKET BLEW WITH ONLY 61,000 MILES ON THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD IN OREGON AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH.
COOLANT IS LEAKING ONTO TOP OF ENGINE BLOCK IN TWO PLACES. IT LOOKS TO BE LEAKING WHERE THE COOLANT CROSSOVER PIPE CONNECTS TO THE ENGINE BOTH SIDES.
WE'VE ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITH SUBARU AMERICA, BUT THEY DON'T RESPOND. 2011 PURCHASED NEW SUBARU OUTBACK. ALL REQUIRED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE & SERVICES PERFORMED ON TIME AT AUTHORIZED PROVIDER. 2019 THE TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT REPLACED PER MFG STDS. DEALER ADDED COOLANT & BLED THE SYSTEM. 3 MONTHS LATER THE RADIATOR BLEW. A CHEMICAL BLOCK WAS DONE & ALL WAS FINE PER DEALER. 3 MONTHS LATER ENGINE OVERHEATED. ANOTHER DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THE HEAD GASKET & CAT WERE CRACKED WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED BY THE PREVIOUS DEALER. SUBARUS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR HEAD GASKET & COOLANT SYSTEM ISSUES FROM 100,000 ' 120,000 MILES. SUBARU SLIGHTLY REDESIGNED THE HEAD GASKETS, BUT THE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE IS AWARE THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAD GASKET, CAT AND RADIATOR ARE WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET FOR 1990 TO 2011 MODELS. ISSUE STEMS FROM MANAGEMENT DECISION TO UTILIZE A COMPOSITE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HEAD GASKET TO SAVE MONEY; HOWEVER, THE LONG TERM EFFECTS OF HEAT ON COMPOSITE METAL PRODUCTS WOULD SURMISE THIS WOULD LEAD TO WARPING, CRACKING OR OTHER RELATED PRODUCT FAILURES. THE DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION OF THE SUBARU HEAD GASKET WAS INEPT AT BEST. THE DEVICE FEATURES A MULTI-LAYER STEEL SHIM COATED WITH A GRAPHITE LAYER. IT WAS NOT UP-TO-THE-MARK & ALLOWED COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE EXHAUST PRESSURE &/OR COMBUSTION CHAMBER. THERE WAS NO SUBARU HEAD GASKET RECALL BUT THE COMPANY REDESIGNED THE CYLINDER HEADS & CONFIGURATIONS OF THE CAMSHAFT. HOWEVER, IT ONLY LED TO THE COOLANT A&ND OIL LEAK AT THE EXTERNAL HEAD GASKET. THIS SYSTEM DEFECT ADDS TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM FAILURE NOTED. WE REQUEST SUBARU AMERICA REIMBURSE US FOR THE TOTAL COST OF THE RADIATOR, THERMOSTAT & HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT AT $4,013.80. PLUS OTHER COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE BREAKDOWNS AT $1,236.20 FOR A TOTAL OF $5,250.00
THERE IS A COOLING SYSTEM PROBLEM (KNOWN BY REPAIR TECHS FOR YEARS, ALTHOUGH NOT DISCLOSED BY SUBARU OF AMERICA). THEIR HEADGASKETS FAIL UNNECESSARILY. IT IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW THAT COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING, LEADING TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM LASTING 16 OR MORE YEARS OF PRODUCTION. THERE IS NO WARRANTY COVERING SUCH FAILURES, NOR A WARNING LIGHT THAT INDICATES A PROBLEM IS IMMINENT EXCEPT FOR WHEN THE CAR ACTUALLY OVERHEATS AND "BLOWS." THE DANGER INVOLVED IS SERIOUS, ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WITH OUT WARNING DUE TO FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH NOT MUCH CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE THIS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH NO WARNING OR INDICATION THAT THE PART IS FAULTY UNTIL IT'S TO LATE. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT SUBARU SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL BECAUSE FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH CERTAIN MAKE AND MODELS AND I AM SURPRISED THAT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN AT FAULT FOR INJURY OR EVEN A DEATH MY WIFE AND TWO KIDS WHERE IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURRED
AROUND 130,000 MILES CAR BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SHUDDERING - WILL SOMETIMES SHUDDER AND STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP. VERY DANGEROUS AT INTERSECTIONS WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN AND IN TRAFFIC. CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT- BEING HIT OR STALLING IN THE PATH OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IN RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT SUBARU OUTBACKS FROM 2010-2015 ARE EXPERIENCING THIS AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS NOR ANY WARRANTIES TO COVER REPAIRS. REPAIRS TO TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH - WHICH IS INDICATED BY MY DEALERSHIP CAN RUN UPWARDS OF $1500.
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK WAS CONSUMED BY FIRE PLEASE SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENTATION AND PHOTO.
DRIVING UP A GRADUAL HILL ON INTERSTATE. ENGINE WARNING AND MULTIPLE OTHER LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. ENGINE LOST ALL POWER. COASTED OVER TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND STOP. TURNED OFF ENGINE. TRIED TO RESTART CAR AND IT WOULD NOT. SUBARU OUTBACK HAD 125,000 MILES AND ONE OWNER WHO HAD ALL MAINTENANCE SERVICES DONE, AT SUBARU DEALER, BY THE BOOK. HAD DRIVEN DOWN INTERSTATE AN HOUR BEFORE WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY CONCERN. I AM TOLD IT HAD THREE VALVE FAILURES.
ENGINE OVERHEATING/LOW COOLANT LIGHT BEGAN ON HIGHWAY AT 86,000 MILES. REPAIRS NEEDED STATED IT WAS A CRACKED RADIATOR. AFTER REPAIR OF RADIATOR AT 800 MILES LATER, SAME LOW COOLANT LIGHT APPEARED WHILE DRIVING IN CITY ON SIDESTREETS AND ENGINE BEGAN MAKING 'SLOSHING' SOUND. REPAIRS NEEDED STATED IT WAS A DAMAGED WATER PUMP. AFTER REPAIR OF DAMAGED WATER PUMP, ENGINE STILL MADE 'SLOSHING' SOUND. FINAL REPAIR RECOMMENDATION WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET WITH POSSIBLE ENGINE RE-WORK REQUIRED AS ENGINE HAD PROBABLY OVERHEATED.
1. STALLING - CAR STALLS WHEN BRAKING QUICKLY - STALLS WHEN YOU COME TO A QUICK STOP. CAR IS IN MOTION AND WILL STALL AS YOU APPLY THE BRAKES QUICKLY AT AN INTERSECTION. 2. SHUDDERS - CAR SHUDDERS AS IT IS SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT (IN THIS SCENARIO I AM NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES). FEELS LIKE IT WILL STALL.
ENGINE SOMETIMES FALTERS AND DIES WHEN COMING TO A STOP; USUALLY ONLY IN THE FIRST FEW MILES OF DRIVING. SIMILAR TO WHAT A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WOULD DO IF YOU DON'T PUT THE CLUTCH IN, EXCEPT THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC. GIVING IT A LITTLE BIT OF GAS WHEN IT FALTERS CAN ABORT THE STUTTERING, BUT NOT ALWAYS, AND IT ISN'T ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO DO SO SAFELY WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO COME TO A STOP. I'VE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS HAND IT'S HAPPENED 7-8 TIMES. TODAY, FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART AFTER IT DIED. TURNED OVER BUT DIDN'T ENGAGE THROUGH A HALF DOZEN TRIES, THEN WOULDN'T TURN OVER AT ALL. I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT ON A HILL. A MINUTE OR SO LATER, IT FIRED UP AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON.
THE VALVE GUIDES CAN PULL OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD CAUSING THE VALVES TO STAY OPEN.THIS WILL CAUSE A MISFIRE OR EVEN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE OPERATING. SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING THE RISK OF CRASH.
OUR OUTBACK HAS THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND CAN SWITCH BETWEEN MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC. WHEN IN AUTOMATIC IT WILL OFTEN SHUDDER WHILE STOPPED AND SOMETIMES STALL WHEN STARTING OFF (SIMILAR TO WHEN YOU YOU ARE IN 1ST GEAR IN A MANUAL AND YOU DON'T WORK THE CLUTCH CORRECTLY). WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $2500 TO FIX. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, WE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR CARS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND THUS FAR, SUBARU HAS REFUSED TO FIX IT AT THEIR COST. IN LIEU OF A RECALL (WHICH IS WHAT THEY SHOULD DO) THEY OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, HOWEVER THAT DOESN'T HELP US SINCE THE EXTENSION EXPIRED AT THE END OF JULY 2018. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM AND COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH IS THE CAR STALLS AS THE DRIVER IS TRYING TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC. SUBARU IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD FIX IT AT THEIR COST.
MY DASH LIGHTS ALL STARTED BLINKING. THE CAR ALSO LOST SOME POWER. I WAS TOLD I HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ENDED IN JULY 2018, CONVENIENTLY FOR SUBARU. THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE NEVER SOLD ME THE CAR LAST YEAR.
CAR HAD BEEN HAVING TROUBLE STARTING LATELY SO BROUGHT CAR TO LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE STARTING ISSUE SO I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. ON THE WAY HOME I WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AND HAD COME TO A GRADUAL STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, AND WAS JUST GOING TO TAKE OFF ON A GREEN LIGHT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STALLED. ALL OF THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AND I IMMEDIATELY PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AS A SEMI WAS COMING UP BEHIND ME. I PUT MY THE CAR IN PARK AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND DROVE MY CAR BACK TO THEM TO BE CHECKED THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A DAY AND TRIED TO RE-CREATE THE STALLING EPISODE WHICH WAS UNSUCCESSFUL.
VEHICLE DIES WHEN STOPPED QUICKLY. TORQUE CONVERTER HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR/MODEL/MAKE
CAR STALLED OUT WHEN I CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP ON THE HIGHWAY DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC. IT SPUTTERED AND THEN THE CAR SHUT OFF. HAD TO BE PUT IN PARK AND RESTART CAR.

FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS, CAR HAS DROPPED RPMS AT HARD STOPS. IT WOULD JERK LIKE COMING TO A FULL STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR WITHOUT PRESSING THE CLUTCH. MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC WITH A CVT. THEN IT STARTED JUST STALLING OUT AT HARD STOPS OR TURNS WITH SIGNIFICANT DECREASED SPEED. THAT IS NOT SAFE. IT HAS BEEN VERY SCARY. MY MECHANIC CONNECTED MY CAR TO THE COMPUTER AND NO CODES MATCHED THE PROBLEM. THEN I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ONLINE AND SAW SO MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THAT TOOK ME TO A SERVICE BULLETIN PUT OUT BY SUBARU IN JULY 2017 FOR THIS VERY CVT PROBLEM CAUSED BY A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. I HAVE THAT SERVICE BULLETIN BUT NOWHERE ON THERE DOES IT DESCRIBE THESE SYMPTOMS SO I NEVER WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS THE SAME ISSUE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE SERVICE BULLETIN. HOURS LATER I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME $1500 IN A PARTS AND $1060 IN LABOR (PLUS TAX). SUBARU IS NOT COVERING THIS CLEARLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR WITHOUT FEAR. I MAINTAIN MY CAR AND AM VERY CAREFUL WITH IT. SUBARU PROFESSES TO BE ABOUT SAFETY AND TAKING CARE OF CUSTOMERS. THIS IS NOT RIGHT.

MY CAR STALLS OCCASIONALLY WHEN I COME TO A FULL STOP. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN EVIDENT SINCE ABOUT 80,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP REVILED IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. I FOUND THE INFORMATION BELOW ON LINE AND SEEMS TO RESONATE. VEHICLE STALLS AFTER SUDDEN STOP REQUIRING IT TO BE RESTARTED. I WAS TOLD BY SUBARU SALES THERE IS A TSB # 16-90-13 R (1/6/14 ISSUED). THIS RELATES TO THE TRANSMISSION ( CVT) LOOKING UP AFTER A SUDDEN STOP DUE TO A THRUST WASHER INSIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER.
AT 72,000 MILES, THE 3.6 LITRE ENGINE HAS BEGUN TO PUSH OIL OUT OF THE ENGINE. MY MECHANIC SAID IT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT THEIR ENGINES DO THIS. I SEE WHERE NEWER MODEL OWNERS WON A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU WHO KNEW THEIR ENGINES ARE FAULTY AND PUSH OR BURN OIL. I BELIEVE MORE MODEL YEARS SHOULD BE COVERED IN A COMPLAINT. AT 72,000 MILES, THE ENGINE IS BARELY BROKEN IN. DECEMBER.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
MY VEHICLE HAS HAD 4 OF 6 IGNITION COULD FAIL DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION WITHIN A SPAN OF MONTHS. FAILURE HAS RESULTED IN SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE AND HESITATIONS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER UNPREDICTABLY AND FORCED US TO PULL OVER. SUBARU OF AMERICA HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR THESE COMPONENTS BECAUSE THEY ARE BEYOND THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. IT IS UNLIKELY THAT FOUR COMPONENTS WOULD ALL FAIL SIMILARLY WITHOUT A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE PARTS OR A DESIGN FLAW IN THE AUTOMOBILE. THERE WERE TWO OCCURRENCES OF THIS FAILURE- ONE COIL FAILED IN SEPTEMBER 2014 AND THREE MORE FAILED IN DECEMBER 2015

I PURCHASED MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK NEW AND LOVE THE CAR. HOWEVER IT HAS ONE PROBLEM WHICH HAS SHAKEN MY CONFIDENCE IN IT. WITH THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE WILL SHUDDER VIOLENTLY. THE RPM'S WILL LOOSE ABOUT 200 TO 300 RPM'S, THEN GO IMMEDIATELY GO BACK UP TO THE CORRECT RPSM; THE ENGINE WILL NOT DIE BUT FEELS AS IF IT MIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY, MANY TIMES. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER IF THE ENGINE IS COLD OR WARM, IF THE A/C IS ON OR OFF, OF THE RADIO IS ON OR OFF, OR ANYTHING ELSE. I FULLY EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THE DEALER WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I TOLD THEM I CAN SOMEWHAT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BY PUSHING THE DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON WHEN THE CAR IS AT A COMPLETE STOP, IN DRIVE,WITH MY FOOT ON THE BREAK; IT IS NOT AS VIOLENT A SHUDDER BUT VERY SIMILAR. THEY KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT AND SAID THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR BUT "COULD NOT DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THIS MUST BE SOME TYPE OF ELECTRICAL CONDITION. I AM DREADING THE DAY WHEN I AM ON A BUSY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FREEWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND THE CAR LEAVES ME STRANDED. ANY SUGGESTIONS? *TR
THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WHENEVER YOU BRAKE SUDDENLY OR USE ANY PRESSURE TO BRAKE (NOT COAST TO A STOP). THE CAR SHAKES AND THEN DIES AND YOU HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST DAILY AND AFTER TAKING IT TO SEVERAL SHOPS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ABOUT FIXING THIS SO IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. EVEN A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE PRODUCES HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS MAKE & MODEL. GIVEN THAT THIS CAN STALL OUT AT ANY SPEED WITH ANY PRESSURE IN APPLYING THE BRAKES WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER, THIS SHOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL FOR SAFETY CONCERNS!!! IT'S A FAULTY PART ON THE CAR, NOT A WEAR & TEAR ITEM. *TR
MY CAR JUST TURNED 17000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 2011. IT IS GARAGED WHENEVER NOT IN USE AND HAVE PHOTOS OF IT IN THE GARAGE. THE MUFFLER AND EXHAUST SYSTEM ARE RUSTING VERY BADLY. I WASH THE CAR REGULARLY WHEN DIRTY. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING - THERE MUST BE A DEFECT IN THE TYPE OF MATERIALS USED. I FIRST NOTICED THIS BACK IN JUNE AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. THIS SHOULD BE REPLACED BY SUBARU - I SHOULDN'T NEED A NEW MUFFLER/EXHAUST SYSTEM ON A NEW CAR IN LESS THAN 20,000 MILES! I HAVE TAKEN PHOTOS OF THE PROBLEM THAT I CAN PROVIDE IF REQUESTED. *TR
ON MANUAL AIR CONDITIONING MODELS WITH FULL MAXIMUM SETTINGS THE SYSTEM OPERATES TO FULL CAPACITY, 39-41 DEGREES F.; HOWEVER, AFTER 10 MINUTES OF OPERATION WITHOUT MAXIMUM SETTING CHANGED THE OUTPUT TEMPERATURE IS REDUCED TO 50-53 DEGREES F. DEALER SERVICED, INDICATED THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL. THE INTERNAL CABIN TEMPERATURE AFTER ONE HOUR OF OPERATION WILL ONLY ACHIEVE 82 F. WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS 92-94 DEGREE F. WITH MAXIMUM SETTING; AS WELL AS, INTERNAL AIR CIRCULATION. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TIMING BELT WAS REPLACED. ALSO, THERE WAS A REPLACEMENT OF THE TIMING BELT TENSIONER AND PULLEYS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY PLANNED TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATION RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,052.

VEHICLE STALLED OUT WHILE IN SECOND GEAR. LOST ALL POWER, PLUS POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN SHORTLY AFTER TURNING VEHICLE ON AND AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A TURN. I QUICKLY CLUTCHED AND TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON TO AVOID CRASHING. *TR
