2018 Ram 3500 Steering Problems

This recall is a safety issue known for years. There is still no action from the manufacturer! I was extremely lucky to avoid a serious collision.

Brakes went out and steering which caused loss of control of vehicle.

I was driving on the interstate highway. While driving at 60 MPH towing a fifth wheel RV the front end shuddered for several seconds. Then the drivers side front wheel assembly broke off at the wheel studs.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving 55-70 MPH, he lost control of the steering wheel. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed to respond as needed.

When hitting bumps or uneven pavement at speeds above 50 MPH the truck will sometimes start shuddering and vibrating violently almost causing total loss of control. The only way to stop it is to come to a complete stop. It does not do it on all bumps or rough roads.

Death wobble while driving down interstate going around 50/60 MPH. I hit a bump in the road as I was traveling onto a bridge and truck started shaking 'dangerously' out of control. The truck didn't stop shaking until I slowed down to around 30 MPH.

My vehicle is experiencing an abnormal free play in the steering wheel during driving on mountain roads. The steering box will all of a sudden get “light” and over steer in a long corner and has been getting worse, I have had several other friends that have experienced total failure of the steering box and have reported that the problem gets worse over time, before complete failure of steering.

While turning around on a paved cul de sac type end of road area I could not complete the turn 100% turning left. I stopped, put truck in reverse and turned the wheel right in order to back up some. Truck would not move hardly at all.

The contact stated that while driving 5 MPH while on a mountain side, within seconds the vehicle tumbled down off the cliff into trees which stopped the vehicle from going down 8 feet into a river. The contact felt that there was a failure with the steering wheel.

Keffer chrysler jeep dodge ram (8214 e independence blvd, charlotte, nc 28227, (704) 532-1050) indicated that the interim repair was to weld two bolts onto the steering linkage until the part was available from the manufacturer.

ABS/traction control light. Dealer says it needs a new ABS module and pump. It’s too new to have these issues, dealer states that it is not a recall and I would have to pay out of pocket ($1600) for the repairs.

ABS pump failure, stable tract for steering. Available for inspection if requested. When this warning light comes on cruise control will not function.

My ABS system has been experiencing intermittent failure, warning light comes on vehicle loses ABS Also can’t align front end due to previous recall where dealership welded tie rod adjusting sleeve due to defect in lock nuts. Now vehicle eating front tires. How can a permanent fix remove a necessary adjustment.

Dodge RAM put out a Recall V06 to inspect / weld the drag link adjuster sleeve for the steering. I was lead to believe that a new replacement adjuster sleeve would be coming that would not require being welded, once those parts were available, we could have the adjuster sleeve replaced that was welded.

Welded draglink rendering the front suspension not able to be aligned. This was the approved recall process from fca. This is not an acceptable response to the issue, just a bandaid to the underlying issue.

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to m&l chrysler dodge jeep ram (406 piedmont dr, lexington, nc 27295, (336) 295-1329) to be repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 19v021000 (steering). The contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a wheel alignment and the nuts on the track bar were welded.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ram 3500. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per an unknown recall to weld the drag nut link. The contact was concerned that the recall remedy would cause the vehicle to not have an alignment performed.

Ram issued a recall for it's steering linkage that may come apart. The solution was to weld the bolts so they can not be loosened. The fix now fails to allow the steering wheel to be properly centered when the vehicle needs an alignment and the wheel is out of center.

The contact took the vehicle to two different dealers, including ferman chrysler jeep dodge ram tampa (813-929-2400, located at 24314 state road 54, lutz, fl 33559).

Called dealer south shore chrysler dodge jeep ram 550 burnside ave inwood, ny 11096-1237 516-371-1500 after calling they said to bring in vehicle. When I got there I was told they can not do this recall at this location. I told them on the phone my VIN nbr and the recall but they said they could not repair it.

I had recall vo6 completed by a dealer last week. The 2 jam nuts were welded to the adjustment for the drag link. I noticed that my steering wheel was not centered, and looked under the truck and found that the inspection marks were on the back side of the assembly.

I have received notice about recall v06/19v-021 and have concerns about the "fix". Welding of the steering components will remove the built in adjustablity for a tire alignment, as well as being in violation of 49 cfr 393.209 which states that steering components cannot be fixed by welding. The v06/19v-021 recall needs to be updated to provide a new component that does not require welding.

No solution for the antilock breaking system,causing drivability issues and loss of traction control,ABS and control on numerous occasions.

Due to safety recall v06, I am no longer able to adjust the steering wheel in my truck after an alignment, leaving the steering wheel in a $60k truck off. I have been in contact with chrysler since november 2020, and they continue to close my case and have not once returned a call. I expect this recall to be handled properly, and not just welded together.

I purchased a new 2018 ram 3500 that had safety recall v06/NHTSA 19v-021 work performed on it prior to me purchasing the truck. I was not made aware of this prior to my purchase and I'm extremely concerned about the "fix" that ram has done. The recall calls for the welding of steering components rather than the replacement of the defective parts.

Safety recall v06 / NHTSA 19v-021 drag link - january 25, 2019 this so called fix is abhorrent! It calls for welding an adjustable part of the steering linkage rendering it non- adjustable when having the front end aligned in the future. Not to mention the effect of welding, potentially causing a problem with the integrity of the metal.

South shore chrysler dodge jeep ram (516-371-1500, located at 550 burnside ave, inwood, ny 11096) was contacted and indicated that they did not service large trucks such as the contact's model and did not have the tools to service the recall campaign.
